I just had a thought.

You are taking fish oil, but are you taking them at the same time as eating some healthy fat? To properly utilize the fish oil, you need to do this.

Jim , the rest is very good. ''I saw some tips on the earth clinic website.

I have tried many things to get those other numbers better.

Exercise helps but doesn't fix everything. That;s why I'm here. emoticon emoticon

Do you eat fish? Particularly oily fish such as salmon and sardines? These are particularly helpful for the HDL.

So I went from 304 to 213 on total. My LDL dropped from 190 to 125 and tryglicerdes went from over 400 to 125 or so. Despite all of those startling successes my HDL has only nudged up from 40 to 45. I was amazed at how much the improvement was in my bad numbers and equally perplexed that my HDL didn't enjoy similar improvement. It tells me my diet, supplements and exercise are all on-target but I need to tweak something to isolate the HDL in a more targeted manner. Also I have lost almost 20 pounds (252.2 to 232.6) in the process. I am a 54-year old male.

I enjoy poached eggs and find them helpful for increasing HDL. I eat one egg, 3-4 times a week. I also find peanuts helpful.
You did not mention how your current efforts have impacted your LDL and if you have lost weight and if it may have played a role? Please share if you would be so kind. Thanks!

Ensure that you are taking the fish oil at the same time as you eat other fats.

I have had this problem myself. My Registered Dietitian gradually increased my Fish Oil to 8,000mg daily to get me from very low to borderline/normal. I take 3,000mg each with my b/fast and dinner and 2,000mg with my lunch ensuring that there is some fat in each meal.

Good luck

I've been able to lower my total from 304 to 213. But my HDL has only gone up from 40 to 45. I eat 1/2 an avocado a day, have 1.5 ounces of almonds daily, use EV olive oil as my only oil and take fish oil pills in the AM and PM with DHA/EPA ratio of 3:1. Any other ideas diet or supplement for raising HDL?
