If you like your GP... call him/her or email...and have them recommend an endocrinologist.. that is a good way to find a good doctor...a referral from someone you know and trust. emoticon

Thank you so much for the info. I have to get a endocrinologist, the last one was suppose to be Houstons best, but some days I would wait 5 hours for my apt, my blood pressure would be so high they would made me take extra meds before I left only to get done just in time for rush hour. I live 1-2. mhrs from there. I need a gp also, I have having trouble getting good Doctors, my oncologist are great, but the others I tried not so much. Thank you again for your info.

Welcome. I should think the oncologist would have gotten you in touch with an endocrinologist as soon as you were diagnosed with thyroid problems. You'll probably have to go through a GP to get a referral. The GP is the one to talk to about the cholesterol, anyhow. There are many brands of statins. The deal is to try them out and see which one fits you. There are other meds for high cholesterol, too.

There's a direct relationship between cholesterol levels and thyroid hormones. If you're gaining weight your thyroid meds may need to be adjusted and that should help. An endocrinologist does that, I believe. Hope this helped some. (((hugs)))

I would first check with your endocrniologist... and see if your thyroid meds need to be adjusted. A change in prescription could make a big diff....
Did they run thyroid tests when you had your last labs? I assume they did.. You might want to take a look at this report......

You did''t mention if you had your thyroid checked recently? According to my endocrinologist low thyroid can increase cholesterol levels. Once you get this squared away then look to nutrition for help in lowering cholesterol. There is good information on this site to help you.

I got lab results this week, and now need to see a Dr. I never had high cholesterol until they took my thyroid out. So where do I start? Do you see a specialist? I don't think I can take a statin drug. Since 2010 I have had breast, ovarian and uterine cancer with chemo and radiation. I already hurt over my entire body so bad now, I cannot take more of that with a statin. I see some of you mention nutritionist, is that the way. I do need to lose weight badly since they took my thyroid out I have really gone up. If you have the time I could use some guidance before approaching a Doctor about this. Thank you in advance!!
