I haven't had the test but I've read about it. High cholesterol runs in my family and my mother and all three of my brothers have had heart attacks so I wouldn't be surprised the learn that it's genetic. I have been tested for a gene that makes people inclined to have auto-immune problems and a gene mutation that sets them up for blood clots. Unfortunately I have both.

I do additional tests that include actual measurement of the ldl particle size. My total cholesterol ranged from low 200s to 235 the last 8 years. I am not on statins because my LDL particle size is small within acceptable range. I also do an inexpensive CT heart scan and get a Calcium Score of the heart vascular system.
Diet doesn't seem to impact my Choleserol levels much. Excercise and weight can impact my level about 10% to the better, evidenced by a period when I got my BMI below 15.

My doctor and I suspect familial high cholesterol. My mother is 82 with high cholesterol and takes no drugs of any kind. Has anyone reading this ever taken a genetic test to see if their liver is predisposed to producing cholesterol?
