Also another warning. It has been proven with studies that Statins can cause Diabetes. My bllod sugar has always been low, I don't eat sweets or bread. At my last lab work, it shows that I am now pre-diabetic range...not sure what I am going to do now. I don't t need yet another disease!

I take CoQ10 as well.

You may want to see if your doctor can change your Rx. I tried at least 4 different types and muscle pain/weakness is not good and it is recommended that users stop taking the meds if that happens! I thought I had MS or something and when I mentioned it to my doctor, he took me right off.

I've been successfully taking Crestor for a couple of years without the side affects. It is expensive, but your doctor may have a card you can use (or download here: http://www.crestor.com/saving-and-patient/
savings-card.html).

Good Luck!

Yes, very important if you take any kind of statin drug, you need to supplement with CO Q10, as they deplete your body of it. I recently tried reducing my dose of pravachol, & my cholesterol went back up to 243, so back to regular dose...sigh...don't know what a person like me is to do, can't live with em, can't live without em!

I will see the doctor soon, taking 40 units of Lipitor now. I notice fuzzier thinking. Our brains are supposed to "sit in a puddle of cholesterol," the doctors explain. This is the origin of sharper thinking, they say.

I have had 3 of those painful muscle symptoms from Lipitor, but I only take 20 units if I am having problems that day. I also had problem painful urination for a couple of weeks. There doesn't seem to be any acceptable substitutions for Lipitor, so I'll keep on trying to lower the cholesterol!

That COQ10 sounds very interesting!

I have a terrible time with statins..I took Lipitor after having heart attack for a few years, had such muscle pain & cramps, my cardiologist changed me to Pravachol, still with the muscle pain. I take 200 mg of Co Q10 a day. I eats salads, apples, oats, etc.My cholesterol is still over 200. He will not hear of my stopping. What a dilemma...

Never heard of Nutrim. Do you eat oatmeal every day? There are several things you can do. Eating fruit that's high in pectin (apples, etc), and lots of veggies or taking plant sterols might help. Best to keep the statins as low as possible.

I heard if you get muscle pain with cholesterol meds that COQ10 works. Ask your doctor about it. My friend's doctor told her to get it and it worked for her. It's over the counter and she got it at Whole Foods. She takes 100 milligrams per day.

Sounds like you have a doctor that is willing to work with you on finding a drug that will work. Personally I don't like, can't OR won't take statins. I refuse to be made a victim by the big Pharma.. Natural ways are available and hope that you look into all options.

Our (doctor's and mine) test-drive of Nutrim to lower cholesterol was a real failure. Cholesterol was higher after two months of faithfully using Nutrim several times a day. Nutrim is ground-up hulls of oats.

Now, I'm using Lipitor. Dr. gave Rx for 40 units, but I cut them up and use 1/3 at each meal. Side effect: Strong muscle pain in calf near knee replacement one time.

I should psych myself up to exercise and cut down on calories. Just read a couple of inspiring articles at SP!
