Hi :) I'm Pam-married with man-children. I have 1 dog, 2 cattens and an Iguana.
I've been on SP for 2 years now. I belly danced at 13 at the Y and started again as an adult-LOVE IT.
I also enjoy Yoga when I can get to the class here and I would love to check Zumba out. I've heard so many good things.
Nice to meet ya' emoticon

HI-been on SP for a couple of weeks now. I have practiced bellydancing off and on for years-I have the moves down pretty good, just sorta lost in putting them all together...good to see a group here!

Hey guys, new to the team! I'm a bellydancing fan, but I don't take classes. I'm not big on groups of people (hermit by nature) so I do Shimmy. I love that show! I do all my working out at home. My routine consists of Vinyasa yoga, Shimmy, and Zumba. :)

I can overcome anything.

Hi everyone! I am new here. :) I just recently...like REALLY recently (as in the past week) got into Belly dancing. It just hit me one day that I really wanted to learn this, and I dove head first!

I have been looking for classes in my area with no success, but I have started collecting DVDs and have been using them for my workouts everyday. Right now I am using "Cardio Belly Dance with Dolphina".

Anyway its nice to meet you all! :) See you around the forums!

Gretchen here! I have a couple of belly dancing dvd's one of these days I'm going to make it to a class. It's surely not because "I'm too fat". Just a question of time, money and location. I'll get there yet! I set a 'reward' for when I hit -40 lbs to take a class. I don't want to wait that long... I think it's time to adjust the reward system!

Patriots, Red Sox, Keto, Zumba, Highland Games are my passions. I may live in Oregon but my heart still roots for Boston!!

I am Sarah, I haven't had an opportunity to participate in any belly-dancing classes. There are a good number in the area but as a college student I must schedule around classes. I have come across various videos/dvds so I'm wondering if anyone has had good luck with any of those? at least until a class can be acquired.

Hi Girls my name is Kim,I have been belly dancing for a while, but now drumming has taken my dancing spot-light for the moment, but like most of us I need to drop some weight before I feel confident in dancing infront of anyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Candace and I live Columbus, Ohio. I'm a mother of four daughters, Abigail (12), Audrey (8), Ava(6), and Alaina(2 1/2). I'm a 4th grade teacher by day and a belly dancer by night. I've been dancing for about 5 years. I started out in Caberet then found my love ATS. I belong to a dance troupe called Sacred Shimmy. I would say we're more ITS now since we incorporate Fat Chance and other improv styles. I have about 80 lbs to lose and feel like crap most of the time. I feel great when I'm dancing and I would say it's my saving grace. I'm so excite to have found this site! emoticon

Hi, I'm Pam. I'm a 50 year old professional petsitter. I've always admired the beauty and grace of bellydancers, but never had the confidence to try it myself. Felt I was too heavy and unattractive to dance. Now I'm of an age where I don't care what others think. I've found classes nearby which I intend to start soon.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Amber and I'm in Casper, WY. I joined my first belly dance class this fall/winter and I loved it. I had a blast making new friends and making a dream come true. Classes start up again on 1/20 and I can't wait to shimmy my hips with my wonderful dancing girls again.

I love belly dance. It's easy on my knees and back but gives me a great workout. It has also made me feel sexy and increased my confidence. I wasn't even all that scared to do our dance recital in December.

I look forward to talking with you lovely sparklers and finding out where I can get more sparklies for my costumes!!

Shimmy-filled salutations!

I'm Nayana, a woman filled with a passion for all forms of movement, especially bellydance. I have been dancing since 2001 and teaching for about three years in central Wisconsin.

I am new to SparkPeople and look forward to learning more about this enormous, amazing site. Most importantly, I am blessed to have found a supportive group of like-minded individuals who share my passions and, dare I say, obsessions.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and becoming friends.

Hello! I am SO glad to have found this group on spark. I love to dance almost more than anything else. I have been obsessed with belly dance since I was at least 5 and always wanted to be able to. I finally realized I could, bought some tapes and music, and just started dancing. I recently started taking actual classes with a real instructor and could not be happier. Just recently picked up a pair of zills for class and am trying my hardest to get them going.
Glad to be here and look forward to speaking with you all! :)

I can't remember if I've done this, but if I haven't then here I am, waiting to learn how to bellydance! I've taken dance classes when I was little, and love to dance and have the hips to do it, so I'd love to learn.

I'm new to the group. I was an "older start-up" belly dancer. I started with a fitness class, and now I dance with the Blue Fire tribe in Indianapolis. Since I'm practicing a whole lot, I have managed to lose about 10 pounds since March! So keep it up, ladies--if you keep dancing you will lose some inches as well as pounds!

Another noob - both to SP and Bellydancing. I took a class a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. Now I want to take the class again and have joined the SP Belly Dancing group as a way to motivate me to sign up and go. Man, what a fabulous exercise, and I love the way the body moves in belly dancing. I've always been a dancer and this will be a great way to get back into it again.

I just joined Spark a couple of weeks ago. I have been belly dancing about 8 years or so. I teach a beginners and intermediate class here in Southern Mass. I am also the Coordinator of a local belly dance chapter. I have lost about 56 lbs since last August. Have hit a plateau the last couple of months and am hoping to re-focus. Shimmies!!

I worked for at least 2 years before I did a performance. It was great for ME! I did it for my sweeties birthday--along with about 15 other gals!!!!!!! I was in the back row! But, really, I did enjoy both the learning and the performing.

Good Luck to you, I know it will be FANTASTIC!!

emoticon Hi!
I am new to the team...I didn't find the fun ones right away. I enjoy SP, being active for the last 2 months, joining about 4 months ago. I started belly dance about 5 years ago. My teacher moved out of the city and I have been dealing with hypothyroidism for... oh who knows...but treating it for 3 months, and starting to feel like my old self, a little. I really loved the belly dancing when I was doing it. I have lots of videos, so when my energy comes back I plan to start doing them. I still shimmy when I brush my teeth!!!!!!!!!!LOLOL

Hello all. I have been on SP for about a month now but am new to this team. I have been belly dancing for about 4-5 years now at the local community college. I LOVE it. It is so wonderful. I would encourage anyone who hasn't to try it. I am happy to be here and chat with other dancers. Best of luck to all.

I didn't see this thread and posted under the introduce yourself thread. I am really new. I am going to teach myself to belly dance and I am excited about it. I look forward to learning from my teammates and supporting them as much as I can.

Hi! I am new to SparkPeople and to this Team. I have been Bellydancing on my own at home for about 2 years as a workout but also to learn the dance form. Then I took 2 semesters of Bellydance at Eastern Kentucky University. I would've taken more but they only let you take it twice emoticon

I still do Bellydance for most of my cardio and frequently practice my dances I learned from the classes. It is a beautiful thing!

Good Morning everyone!

This is my first week at SP, but I have been belly dancing for a total of 4 years. Although I have performed several times, the outfits we wore covered the midriff. I just purchased my first 2 piece and want to look good in it!

Been a member of Spark off and on for a few years but just joined this team. I have been dancing since 2002, performing since 2004. I bellydance for the sheer enjoyment of dancing and make a lot of my costume pieces.

I've been a member of Spark for over a year now, but just started to nurture an interest in bellydance. I hope to find it's all I hope it can be!

Hi all, Tiffany here... or Muna rather. I've been belly dancing consistently for about two years. Every couple months I dance for my teacher at a restaurant. I also dance throughout the summer at various ren fairs and pirate festivals. I love performing, and I want to look even better when I do perform. As far as SP goes, this is week two for me!

Hi, everyone! Bellydancing is essential to my state of mind, so I can't wait to see what this online team offers. I was extremely skeptical when I signed up for SparkPeople a couple of days ago, but I'm already starting to see what motivation and comfort it offers. I've been on this "journey" for almost 3 years, and only in the last month, has my weight FINALLY shifted. Granted, it went up, but I'm still pumped, because it was the first time I was able to influence my body in over 2 YEARS. So, I'm thrilled, and excited to shimmy my "weigh" back down to normal.

Hi,

My name is Michelle. I first tried bellydancing a couple years back. I admit, I haven't kept it up, at least not with regular classes. But what I learned was a lot of fun, and I want to get back into it. I'm thinking of getting some DVDs off Amazon, and starting to shake loose again.

Otherwise, I find myself borderline belly-dancing in church-! Lol

Hi all. I'm Casey, and I've been bellydancing for 4.5 years. I started as a birthday present to myself :-) Best present I've ever given myself!!

Right now, I'm not able to dance because of a spinal fracture and degenerative disk disease....it's really hard to not dance! I usually shimmy while I walk around the office! So life is rough right now, especially since I've been in a dance troupe this past year (which I'm probably not going to continue with because the troupe has over 40 people in it, and I don't do well with that many personalities several times a week!).

Here's the only video of my dancing, and this is from over two years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pJRgUQVra8

Have a great week all!!

I'm doing belly dancing DVDs. I dance as I walk around the house. I hope to take a class eventually. I'm very shy so it will take a bit of courage to get myself to a class. Anyway, I started the belly dancing DVDs because I needed something to do during the winter when it was too cold or snowy to exercise outside.

Exercise and belly dancing DVDs fill the gap and they aren't as boring as doing circuit training out of a fitness book. I'm also doing the 100 push up challenge to gain fitness. It's so hard.

Anyway, I'm a housewife with three teenagers and that's nearly a teen. I spend all the time that I'm not exercising or Sparking cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping. I feel like I run laundry everyday.

Hello everyone, I guess I might have posted in the wrong spot. I posted here: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/Team_mes

I LOVE the idea of belly dancing. I have even taken a couple of classes when I was visiting Vegas for work. I love it. But time is the main issue. I'll let the link say the rest of it.

There are no problems, only Challenges! And I LOVE a good challenge.

Hi, I was introduced to bellydancing by Arab neighbours a while back. Unfortunately I moved away and where I live now there are no classes, and no one who shares my interest. Nowadays I just follow YouTube videos or freestyle. I hope that I can pick up a few pointers from all of you. emoticon

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and to SparksPeople. I'm so glad to find you all! I belly dance as a hobby, pretty much. This year, however, I got up the guts to dance in the Fremont Solstice Parade for the first time. There were about 100 of us in a forward moving choreography. What a hoot that was!

So, HI EVERYBODY!!

Hi everyone! I already wrote out a welcome post but decided to introduce myself on this thread, as well.

I'm April, 20 years old, and a complete beginner to bellydance. My sister use to dance, she LOVED it and was very gifted with it, so I decided to take it up as well. :)
I'm a student working on my BA of psychology and wanted to try something new besides running and tae bo to feel better about myself. :)

You're all laughing at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

New here too. I took a belly dancing class last month. I'm signed up for another set of classes in November. I wish I could find somewhere where I could take classes every week for the year instead of taking courses of 5 classes here and 6 classes there.

Definitely loving the work out.

Hello all! I am new to the group but not to belly dance. I've been dancing for about the last 7yrs. I have always been fascinated with the dance and culture. I use it as a form of self expression as well as for fitness. It is just a beautiful way for a woman to express confidence, pride in the movement of her body and get fit all at the same time.
The style of dance I am in love with is tribal. I mean, I love them all but tribal is where I am drawn to. Women like Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara and Mardi Love inspire me! The way they move is just amazing. I am also in awe of Suhaila and Ansuya and the list goes on!
I am so happy to see there are others out there that share the same joy of this dance. Hope to "meet" you all.

Jewel - you can find some videos on YouTube with some individual techniques. If you subscribe to Netflix, they have quite a few videos there too (I've not looked at them yet, they're on my list though).

If you're interested in Tribal Improv, "The Art of Bellydance" kit by Carolina Nerilco can be found at Barnes and Noble for about US$15. I've got that and it's been a good supplement to my classes.

P.S. It's nice to see another "grand damme"

If you just want a workout, Neena & Veena or Suahila DVDs are good in that respect.

But, as anyone will tell you, if you really want to be serious about it, you will need to take classes and/or workshops. Form is everything and it really helps to have someone who knows what she/he is doing to correct you before bad form becomes habit.

Hello everyone! I'm Wendy, and I've been bellydancing for about 2 1/2 years I think? I can't remember exactly when I started. I started with a couple of friends with a troupe in Texas, and we had a couple performances when I lived there. I have tried a class or two here in LA, but am still looking for my spot. I'm hoping to start w/ Katarina in Seal Beach starting in October. I love the music, I love shaking my thang, and I love watching people's reactions to dancing.

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

Hi!

"The truly rich are those who enjoy what they have."

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

I just took over as Leader--I'm Bonnie--61 years young--started bellydancing when i WAS 28 AS WAY TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE ONE nIGHT A WEEK AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT AND THE MUSIC. (gotta love the little fingers with the arthritis that hit the caps lock key all the time!)

I have 2 grown children, 30 and 26 and a son-in law also 26.

Life is always changing but it's all good!!!

So who should I be talking to that you know who needs my skills?

I'm not exactly new to the group, but I've been inactive for a long time. So I thought a reintroduction might be needed. So here goes...My name is Mystyne, I'm 33 & a NICU nurse. My little sis (she turned 18 Thursday) lives with me and we have 2 crazy cats. I've been belly dancing about 7 years now. I started because of my little sis, she's been belly dancing since she was 6. I've hit some speedbumps in life this year & I'm ready to take control again.
