Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I'm still here, but I haven't been on SP or online at all much lately. However, today I went outside my comfort zone to an all-day knitting retreat. And, I had a really good time and met some nice people. Have been dealing with some physical issues, planning my birthday, and my next staycation which is NEXT WEEK! Only 3 days, but still much looked forward to.

Have a great night all.

OOPS I meant to put this under November. Shows I should not post late at night!

Thanks for the tips. Vic tried some carpet cleaner but the stain is still there. Got to go at it again.

Yogurt stains: try carpet cleaner, oxiclean, or goodhousekeeping's recommendations (eg diluted dishwashing soap)

Stains are always fun....I have to get an avocado mishap out of carpet myself!

Good Morning:

Here's a question for you: Last night when I took some yogurt out of the fridge it slipped out of my hands and landed on the floor and on a rug I keep by the sink. I washed the floor and took a wet towel to scrub out the rug. The floor is fine but the white splatter is still on the rug. This is not a rug you can put in the washing machine. Any ideas?

Take care all and enjoy the day.

Hey everyone....Happy Halloween. Just wanted to drop in. I have finished my move and have virtually all boxes unpacked. I do have some more cleaning to do but hope to be around much more in November.

Gail..I didn't go to freakfest but my son did. He said it was wild. I did watch the Badger game on tv but wish I hadn't!

Good Morning:

I hope you are all doing well. Today is a great day to curl up with a book and that's just what I will do.

Wondering what you are all into these days. Did anyone go to the Badger game or on State Street last night?

Good afternoon:

It's wonderful to see the sun shining. Boy, I sure don't care how cold it gets as long as we have sun.

I made a vegetarian split pea soup two days ago and am so happy I have it on hand. This is the perfect weather for soup. Tonight I will try my hand at red beans and rice. Have any of you made that? Do you have a good recipe you might share?

Enjoy this beautiful day everyone.

Good Afternoon:

I went for my PT appointment today and learned that I had improved significantly. Actually, I wasn't expecting that since I have only done one exercise every day since my last visit. The others flew by the wayside since I was so miserable with my allergies.

April: Your trip to Wausau will be a blast. Enjoy the bird art show.

Kathleen: Hope your medical appointments went well. As for raking, I hear you. Some folks from the timebank are supposed to come this afternoon to help me out. Of course it will have to be done yet again since there are still many leaves on the trees.

Janey: Are you all moved in? How do you like your new digs?
Wishing you all a great day,

Hey there, my work out gal pal brought me wonderful golden delicious apples from MI when she visited her daughter. They were so yummy! I cut one up this morning and put it in my oatmeal with some cinn & splenda sprinkled on top.

Don has off this week and is enjoying doing the things around the house he doesn't have time for. Unfortunately him being home meant he went grocery shopping. I picked up the oatmeal, grapes and bananas that were on the list and he grabbed a gallon of ice cream and chocolate sauce! :{

We are hoping to take a day trip to Wausau for a bird art show. There are bird carvings there and the drive will be nice. Maybe it won't be too bad and we can hike Rib Mountain.

Hope all goes well at the Dr office Kathleen.

Have a great day!

Hi all.
I have two doctor appts this week, and one is done. Another one tomorrow. I thought it was going to be colder today so I wore a jacket -- and got way too warm on the way home. No complaints though! We still have to rake our leaves, although the neighbor boys did rake a few times.

I am not doing too well with Diet Free, the program we are having at work through employee wellness. I am on track with it now, but basically missed the first 2 weeks. It's where you add a healthy habit each week for 8 weeks, then, hopefully get to the point of not having to track anymore. I am playing catch-up this week. Trying to eat a lot of fruits and vegs!

Have a wonderful evening everyone.

I went back today, and it was ok. It's going to be kind of stressful and busy, but it's just part-time, and temporary. Sure was a nice day to bike to and from work!

Good Morning:

Janey: How's the new house? All settled in?

April: Wonderful that you got to natural bridge. I haven't been there in ages but I recall it is very nice.

Kathleen: All rested up from your staycation?

Jeanette: When do you go back to work?

Em: How's your little tyke? Got him a costume for Halloween?

Enjoy the day. It's only 37 now but it's supposed to be sunny and in the high 60's.

Don and I just got back from a nice hike at Natural Bridge State Park. It was a nice day out for that. Now back home, I have some things to do before the carving show tomorrow and Don is puttering outside. We'll be ready to put our feet up come Badger football time and rest. I will be crocheting mittens for Emerson School.

Gail, Don wears a mask during the summer days when his allergies are bad and he is mowing the lawn.

Have a great day

Well, I never got to rake yesterday. I went on a few errands and the allergies started acting up. Maybe I need to wait a bit. Might try later today. Perhaps if I wear a mask it will help.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Not sure if I have mentioned this, but I am moving to a new house! Moving day is tomorrow....The house is newer and a tad bit smaller than my current house....Got some work to do on it but it should turn out good....So if I don't "see" you for a few days, you know why!

Hey there, I'm a draggin. I had a session with my trainer then my team did Zumba. I think I'll be sitting and knitting tonight.

This Sunday I am showing at a free woodcarving show at Olbrich Gardens. There will be a room full of wonder wood carvers, raffel, a room with wood turners and some wood artists will be selling their stuff. There will also be a chainsaw carver outside. The time is 9-4. I would love to see you if you stop by. I'll be wearing my Donald Driver football jersey at the Wandering Whittler tables.

Well, making healthy corn bread and tuna noodle casserole for supper so I better get back to it.

Good Morning:

Well, we signed the contract to have the painters come and do the trim and the windows and I'm glad that's behind us. They will come in about 2 weeks.

Yesterday I processed and froze 5 tubs of chard and 3 sacks of broccoli. That was the last from the garden. Thank God that's all over.

Enjoy the day and be happy.

Good Morning:

Hope you are all doing well and are enjoying good weather this weekend.

We started to get bids on painting our window sashes. They need to be scraped, sanded, primed and painted. Vic shouldn't be around those chemicals and I definitely don't want him on a ladder doing the upstairs windows. Best to leave it to the professionals. I haven't a clue as to what it will run. Any of you have ideas?

Catch you all later.

Gail

Emily: Sounds like you had a blast at the fire station. I recall taking our son to our local station and excitement he felt.

Thought I'd share a joke with you all today:

Cross at the Monastery of Silence

Brother John entered the "Monastery of Silence" and the Abbott said,
"Brother, this is a silent monastery; you are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until I direct you to do so."

Brother John lived in the monastery for five years before the Abbott said to him, "Brother John, you have been here five years now; you may speak two words."

Brother John said, "Hard bed."

"I'm sorry to hear that," the Abbot said. "We will get you a better bed."

After another five years, Brother John was called by the Abbott. "You may say another two words, Brother John."

"Cold food," said Brother John, and the Abbott assured him that the food would be better in the future.

On his 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Abbott again call Brother John into his office. "Two words you may say today."

"I quit," said Brother John.

The Abbott said:
"It is probably best, you've done nothing but complain since you got here."

Sounds like everyone is busy. April, good luck with the Christmas cards and the storage shed, I hope it is not too windy today. Jet, good luck going back to work part time! I hope it will be the best of both worlds and you will still have time for your lunches out. I know several other recent retirees who have gone back part time, and it is working well for them.

On my staycation still, this is my last "day off" but I'm glad there's still a weekend. My DH is coming home today, hopefully, from his mother's funeral, with a lot of her stuff in the trunk, including a set of kitchen chairs and curtains for my daughter's apartment and who knows what else. It has been a difficult week for me with him gone. I'm not complaining though, I just appreciate him more now. I lost 3.5 lb on the scale this morning. Not sure the last time I weighed. I have fallen out of a lot of Spark habits like religiously tracking which I used to do, but I am doing a program at work called Diet Free. Have a great morning everyone.

I am probably in a distinct minority, but I'm very glad to see the end of the heat. Janey, have fun! Gail, I have a friend who saw Glass Menagerie last weekend and she said it was very good; very difficult.
I had lunch with some fellow retirees today. I had lunch with some still working former coworkers yesterday. Now that I'm retired I'm singlehandedly keeping the lunch venues within walking distance of my home in business!
Actually, I'm going back part-time at the end of the month. There's an annual process that I've experience with so I will be back three six hour days a week - no benefits or anything, which is fine It should last til March...if I last that long! I've gotten very used to all this time!

Hey there, boy I can't believe it takes twice as long to recover and catch up from a week long vacation. Things are going well. This fall weather I love but it has me craving the comfort foods. Not good, but I'm just taking one day at a time hoping I'll get into the swing of things with my food and this cooler weather. I think it's time to bake some veggie soups. I have a hard time getting my 5 in when it's not salad weather. Today I have volunteering at the police station then off to Zumba. I just watched my recording of Dancing W/Stars so I'm in the mood to groove!
Have a great day!

Emily: some people act strange because they are having their own issues. Try not to take it too personally. If you feel it is impacting Deven's daycare experiences, you could have a meeting with this person and an impartial third party, and get it aired out. I'm with Gail, I feel much more comfortable now that I don't care as much what others think of me. I let people have their own opinions and forge ahead.

I am having a quiet evening so far. It is the beginning of my staycation of 3 days. I have a few plans, but need to get beyond my lack of energy. Wishing everyone a nice fall evening.

Emily: I was like you; I cared terribly what others thought of me. Then one day I woke up. What a revelation. I am now happy in my own skin. What others think of me is less important than what I think of myself. However, that said, I will not let anyone abuse me. If someone is cold with me I'm more apt to tell them I feel they are angry, indifferent, etc. with me and leave it to them to explain themselves. You may be the object of transference. That's when someone is upset or worried about A and takes it out on B.

Hi Everyone!
I have decided to leave our leaves and just mulch them into our grass. Our lawn can use all the help it can get!

I am doing pretty well, finally recovering from this cold and going on a field trip with my kiddo this morning.

I am frustrated, though. Our daycare is GREAT. Love the teachers, love the program, love the progress little Deven is making there. I do NOT love the fact that the director is very hot and cold. She often acts like Deven and I are her best buddies. Othertimes she acts like we are the poo on her shoe.

I also hate that I let that bother me. WHY do I care what this person thinks of me? I know she loves my kid because my kid is awesome. I guess maybe I am afraid I am not awesome, too?

I put up with it, though, because my son loves it there. I just feel like a company I am giving that much $ to should try not to make me feel like poop.

Happy Monday!

I have tons of leaves in my yard that needs to be raked....lots of work! I am enjoying the beautiful colors of the leaves thought.

I was excited to see both the Brewers and Packers win yesterday! Made for the end of a great weekend.

Good Morning:

It is another glorious day and I'm enjoying it even though I'm staying in. My allergies have been terrible for the last few weeks and from what I've heard I'm not alone. I go out only when I really have to. Tomorrow I'll need to take Vic in for his weekly blood test and I know he'll need a transfusion. It will have been three weeks and I see he's winded after just walking a few steps.

OK guys, I'm drawing near the end of the Martha Grimes mysteries and I need recommendations. Any one have any ideas. I don't want anything gory. I prefer a series, but good individual mysteries are fine too.

Enjoy the day and stay well.

Hi Everyone! I am so excited to be in the middle of fall! I LOVE LOVE fall.

I do find it strange that our yard front and back is filled with leaves (and we are the only ones!) but our trees are still full of leaves?

No matter! My son LOVES to jump in those leaves. I created a game where I rake the leaves into a pile at the bottom of his slide and he slides down into it.

It's great fun. Of course, I also need to drim off my hostas, etc, so lots of work to be done, but otherwise, all is great fun!

I hope everyone is doing well.

So glad I my family took down the garden fencing. Whew, that was a job that had me worried. I've got a bit more work to do picking and cleaning up, but the lion's share is done.

Wishing you all sweet dreams,

Gail

It sure doesn't Gail. I have so enjoyed this glorious fall weather...Its been wondering being able to spend so much time outside....I have been walking everday sometimes twice...early morning and late afternoon.

Have you all been getting out too?

Good Evening:

Hope you are all doing well. Our son and his family arrived safely and they, Vic and I and our daughter's family were here for lunch. I made two pie crusts yesterday and put them in the freezer because there was no room in the fridge. This morning I made a spinach quiche and a tomato pie. We got a couple of rotisserie chickens and that was lunch. I was so glad everyone liked the pies, especially the tomato. Vic thought nobody would care for it since it was something they never had before. Well, that one was completely finished; there are 1-2 portions of spinach quiche and lots of chicken left.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Janey, have a fun weekend. I like the new username.

Gail, I hope your sinus/allergy symptoms will ease up before it gets too cold to enjoy the outdoors. I have been having some allergy symptoms too but at least my asthma isn't too bad this year. Take care of yourself.

Hello to everyone -- I am just noticing that I haven't been on SP for a while -- thus have a lot of ground to cover in getting caught up. Am typing poorly now (lots of typos) so I will just wish everyone a great evening.

Good Morning:

I'm doing much better with this sinus/ allergy thing resting and staying indoors. It's such a waste since the weather has been exceptional. I'll need to go out tomorrow morning for an errand or two, and then again at night for a concert. Our son and his family are coming to visit for the weekend and I'm so pleased about this. I hope I don't get worse going out tomorrow.
Hugs for all,

Gail

Hopefully I can get a walk in today. The weather has been great but I don't get to see much in the office all day. Hope everyone is doing well.

What gorgeous weather! I walked down along the Lakeshore path this morning and once I get the last load of wash on the line I'm going to walk downtown.

Back from vacation. We went to Estes Park,Co and visited Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. It was hotter there than you were here! We saw elk, drove the Trail Ridge Rd, hiked up the side of a mountain! On the way home we visited some historical sites referencing the Oregon Trail and in South Dakota we visited 2 caves and the Mammoth Site. They were facinating! We had a great time and Don was able to get some much needed down time. Now back to the grind. We ate very well, except one day. Don and I coined the phrase "Breakfast dessert" that's because after our oatmeal breakfast he wanted to stop in at the local bakery in Hot Springs,SD. The doughnut was very good though and fresh. Then that night we ate grilled talapia but had homemade pie for dessert. The next day we did scale 723 stairs in one of the caves though.

Gail I like your goal for the month of getting the 5 f&v in. I struggle with that one.

My brother went but we sold out tickets to stay out of the fray. I watched at a friends house and celebrated!

I went for a walk this morning and am not heading out to a Packers/Brewers party...GO Wisconsin!

Did anyone go to the game last night. Vic watched it on TV. I didn't but kept checking the score from time to time. I wanted the Badgers to win, but I really felt sorry that Nebraska lost by such a wide margin.

Thats a good goal for the month Gail...with all the fresh veggies that will be available. Going walking this morning and then getting all my weekend work'/errands so that I can enjoy both the Badgers and Packer games this weekend.

It really is a beautiful crisp fall morning!

Enjoy!
