Awesome news Phoebe about the condo. It sounds perfect! I really donít know south Bellingham. You will have to tell me all about it.
Nice to meet up with old friends. Itís like you have never been away.

Kate, sweet dreams tonight.

Sue, I hope all goes well at your Moms this time. It does sound like your sister is doing much better.

Bess, your nonfrolicking deer reminded me of DH and my drive across the US - we saw a lot of pronghorn antelope in Wyoming and Montana, but they never seemed to hang out with the deer. We sang to the pronghorns, but no deer. Just bison and pronghorns and elk.

Cindy, the dorms are often used during the summer for special programs for teens - space camp, math camp, all those things. So we've never been able to rent a room for the summer. There also aren't enough dorms for all the university students, so there are a lot of cheap housing apartments in that area - most being shared housing, so we could sublet a room in a house with two or three students. Not really what we want to do - we've stayed in some youth hostels, and all too often there are groups of 18 to 22 yr olds drinking all night.

Kate, your moose is dreaming of becoming a reindeer? Too funny! The red hearts really do make the colors pop! I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight!

Kellie, just sending you hugs. You really are strong, and you are doing wonderful things with your new life. (Keep reminding yourself of that.)

Donna, we'll figure something out. And this weather is why I don't live in Bellingham full time!

Sue, it does seem that some people are still thinking about whether or not to get this vaccine - despite the fact that smallpox is essentially eradicated because everyone was vaccinated over a period of time. But, well, we can't change other people's minds for them. I hope this is an easy time taking care of your mother.

First - looks like we have a small condo in the artsy south part of town, the neighborhood of Fairhaven! King size bed, view of the bay, rooftop balcony. All utilities included, full kitchen. Reasonable rent (in fact, half of what the original house we'd hoped for would have been). Donna, it's in Fairhaven! We've been communicating with the owner, looked at a different place this evening, confirmed that this particular place has a king bed, and that was it for us - we told the owner yes, reserve it for us, send us the lease, we're in for three months or more.

I'm quite excited!!! We'll be around the corner from a supermarket, several eating places, and all kinds of fun shops. Maybe a mile or less from a little park right on the bay, where great blue herons nest.

I spent the afternoon with my BFF from high school, her husband, their youngest daughter, and my friend's little sister. You know how in HS your BFF's family is sort of your second family? We were like that with each other. We've met up in a few places around the world, they travel a lot as well - I can't remember the last time we saw each other in Bellingham. We'd planned to meet at one park with covered picnic areas, but a group had rented that park ahead of time - so we tried another park, that we never did find - so we went to the marine park near the condo we're going to rent. Just hung out, laughed about funny things that happen in our travels, reminisced a bit. (She remembered a poem I wrote about a picnic we had in a teacher's room because it rained that day. We're talking 50 years ago, and we both remember that poem.)

Anyway, it was a wonderful afternoon, and then finally finding and being able to rent this condo really topped off my day!!!!

I bought a sketch pad so I could try sketching cookie ideas first, it worked fine except I did the decorations upside down. Iíll erase everything except the outline and start over, tomorrow.

Donna - I had a WHOLE five days - almost - at home! The length of time that I was here from when my sister had her surgery until last week was about the length of time I'm usually home between visits up here. The length of time that I was home this time is about the same length as my usual monthly visits to my mom's! I told my sister that when I go home next time I need to be home for at least 3 weeks. I changed my MFP name so that it's the same as my Spark ID aside from not capitalizing all of it and having to add an _ between the two words. You did have a busy day in the kitchen and accomplished a great deal. I have a hard time understanding why some people hesitate to be vaccinated. My SIL (brother's wife) who is on dialysis has a brother who says he doesn't know if he'll bother to get vaccinated, in which case he won't be coming around my SIL who now is fully vaccinated. I think she has a few other family members who are a bit casual about the need to be vaccinated. I can understand why you would not want to take any chances with your hubby's health and maybe if people realize that their decision is going to hurt some relationships or limit them from doing some things, they'll change their minds.

Not much to add here - back at mom's as has already been established and so far pretty quiet. I thought my brother would be bolting out the door but he hung around at least an hour after I got here. My SIL is doing better and has an appointment tomorrow to see which of the two antibiotics she's on is more effective. Then she'll be able to get rid of one but will need to stay on the meds for 21 days to ensure the infection is totally cleared up.
Should get off to bed here soon!

Phebess - I'm as well rested as I'm going to get! Part of the problem was staying up TOO late a couple of nights but I'll be fine. The time at home was short and busy with spark stuff getting ready for a new 5% challenge but this time I know my stay will be shorter. Sorry that finding a place to land is proving to be so difficult. College towns should be used to providing shorter term and furnished rentals for students and being able to rent to responsible adults I would think would be more attractive. I hope that you get to see your brother soon.

Sunny - I expect that we'll all be recreating food lists. I know that my SP list was badly in need of editing as there was some food I had on there that I used to eat 10+ years ago that I haven't had in my cupboards in years! I find with the bar code scanner it's at least easy enough to add food quickly enough but I haven't been doing that much tracking the past few days. Floating around the poos in the moonlight does sound nice - as long as there are no mosquitoes! I don't imagine they'd survive in the hot desert climate. Happy belated to your daughter! I know it's hard to believe that my "baby" is 35 - I NOT that old! (LOL!!)

Kate - LOVE the moose cookie! UGH! So frustrating when one can't sleep at all during the night! I hope you will be able to have a good night's sleep tonight.

Bess - Not a lot of choice getting the SP stuff done when they moved up the start of the summer challenge so we could complete the full eight weeks before SP shuts down. Actually it was probably better to be at home - no interruptions or having to go check to see what mom's up to! My sister is making good progress, Came walking in with a cane today rather than the walker. She was on the bike for the first time at her PT session this afternoon and after pushing the pedals forward and back a few times, completely turned them going backwards which she didn't need to attempt yet. She's just past the halfway point of her 6 week recovery - at least in terms of driving restriction. We're through a recent hot spell but it was a bit wet out there today. Should have sunshine and a bit cooler than seasonal for a few days. I'm sure you feel some relief that the commission is finished - at least mostly and maybe completely.

Kellie - Glad that you are doing what is absolutely right for you right now.

Cindy - My time at home was short this time but only because my sister is recovering from surgery, Normally I don't do such a fast turnaround. They do appreciate me being here - even mom - who said that she missed me. My sister said that she missed me too! Of course my hubby REALLY missed me when i was gone so long and will be missing me again but at least I wont be gone as long this time. UGH being without power! When mom loses power here it can be out for HOURS and HOURS. On one visit here last fall when my sister and BIL went away for the weekend, the power went off just when I had started cooking something, maybe around 5 o'clock and didn't come on again until about 10 or 11 the next morning! A tree had taken out a hydro pole about a half mile from here. Being on a well we had no water aside from the pails of emergency supply that get stored downstairs that can be used for flushing and washing hands but that's it. Not fun. I think we had peanut butter and bread for supper! That's hopeful news about your niece and nephew. And yeah for the migraine staying away!

Morning all from the rainy west coast. Apparently this will be what we deal with for the next few days. Oh well, we do life ini a rain forest.
My day yesterday was spent cooking in the kitchen. I had frozen bananas that were calling to be made into banana muffins, cookies for Dh rather than store bought the a new InstaPot recipe for a vegetable soup made with homemade broth and navy beans that had to be precooked. Everything turned out great and I do enjoy me InstaPot.

Maree your rental sounds well maintained. I would love to live in your cute little house especially with you as my landlord. Glad to hear the good news with cousin Bin.

Kellie the tough day is iced and I am happy you feel good about your decisions. Feeling like we are where we are suppose to be is a very good thing. Your life is so full and so good right now. We are all so proud of you!

Bess good for you for finishing your commission on time.

Phebess thanks for checking out Peace Arch park. I thought I had remembered our government had stopped people congregating there. I really do think our borders will be open soon especially for those of us who are vaccinated.
We were FaceTimeing with friends on Saturday night who live in Alberta. They are both in their mid sixties and are refusing to be vaccinated. It really is not a conversation you can debate. They have their reasons and I know their siblings are not happy with their choices. As much as we enjoy their company I donít think we could have them stay with us if they travel to BC. I wouldnít want to take the chance with hubby.
I seem to have gotten off topic here havenít I!! Haha
Phebess I know we will see each other sometime this summer and happy house hunting.

Cindy thank goodness for staving off the migraine and for the power coming back on. Also good news the nephew and his wife are talking. I sure hope it works out for the whole family.

I have to take hubby for some lab work today otherwise just a pretty quiet day.

Have a great week everyoneÖ.

Good Monday morning!

Kate, you're right! The hearts were just the thing to make that cute moose look finished!

Kellie, I saw Continental Divide once, on an airplane. Don't remember a thing about it, though, LOL. But it does sound like you are where you need to be for now, and not be uprooted and torn away from your support system.

Bess, congrats on finishing the painting before Father's Day! I bet they'll be thrilled!

Donna, working in the kitchen SHOULD be counted as exercise! Sometimes the most tiring exercise, too!

Sue, can't believe how short your time at home was! Hoping all goes well with your stint at mom's this time. I'm sure they are all so grateful for your help.

Maree, sounds like you will be able to breathe easier after today, knowing that the rental is all spruced up and ready to rent. Too bad it's not in WA, and Phebess could rent it, LOL.

Phebess, if you're in a college town it seems like you could find a rental that college students have left for the summer, if you were willing to only be in it till the end of August. Maybe even furnished! Have you checked with the college/university?

The migraine yesterday did not come back yet, and only bothered me a few hours in the early morning of yesterday. Yay!
I enjoyed the relaxing morning at home, and got some brown rice cooked and put short ribs in the crockpot first thing in the morning, for a quick and easy dinner. Good thing I did that! While I was on the way home from picking up my niece in the afternoon I got a text from my daughter asking if our power was out. I had my niece text her back that I hoped not, but was not at home at the moment. Then DH called me to tell me our power was out. Apparently a tree fell on a power line a couple roads away from ours, and at first they said power would be restored by 5pm, but then they changed that to 10pm. Thankfully, it came back at 9:09pm, JUST as I was about to try to help mama UP onto the hospital bed (that I put in the highest position during the day, for ease of making the bed!), so I was able to lower the bed after all. Whew! (I looked and looked for the emergency hand crank to lower the bed, but couldn't find it. I'll work on acquiring that knowledge today!) Anyway, at least we had some dinner, and the meat in the crockpot was still warm. After dinner DH and I went for a walk, since we couldn't watch TV. And later we had mama join us in the living room, and the 3 of us watched a DVD on my old computer that has a disc drive and video player. That was kind of fun. Boy, am I grateful for electricity!! It's so pleasant to hear my fridges and freezers humming right now, and the coffee pot making its noises. Normally I don't appreciate those sounds, but today I sure do!!

I am thinking instead of driving my niece to work, and then going back to pick her up, I should just let her drive my car today. I don't think I need it for anything today. That will give me more time to get stuff done at home.
Please keep helping me pray for niece and nephew's relationship. They are in communication with each other, and talking about things, and I feel more hopeful that they will be able to work things out and stay together.

OK, 6:00, time to go! Have a great start to your week, everyone!

LOVE the moose! Delightful colors! I hope you get to sleep tonight.

I hope no news is good news for Bob Maree. I feel like I'm graduating in many ways. Lots of bittersweet stuff going on!

emoticon

I found the stainless steel cleaner and put some elbow grease into the fridge and stove. It felt like I bought new appliances. A nice feeling!

I'm not surprised the x asked me to come down there. He was planning to move back there when we met and despite me telling him he should go, he stayed. We had planned to move south when we retired. I loved the smell of the air down there. He said I seemed happy when we traveled there but life has changed drastically.

I really miss him and I REALLY hate Chicago winters but there is where I belong for now. Thinking about the Jim Belushi movie Continental Divide.

So moving forward. Hoping for an early bedtime tonight!

I have had a horrible night of insomnia. I d sleep for 15 minutes and wake up, tired but unable to sleep. Iíve done everything I can think of that normally knocks me out and nothing works. Itís 5am, Iím yawning and if I lay down Iíll be wide awake. I hate this.

I finished my moose cookie last night. It just didnít look right so I added the hearts. It made all the difference.

Maree - I'm so glad you realized you could use a little vacation time to fix up that rental house. It sounds darling. flower beds in a rental? way cool. And isn't it nice to know an HVAC man personally? emoticon

Kellie - I'm so glad that call is behind you. And I had exactly the same thoughts that Sunny did - how interesting that he wants YOU to give up everything - YOU to be isolated from your family and loved ones, those people who support YOU. Sounds like a textbook case to me. Well. You're a smart cookie. You know how precious and valuable you are. No need to let someone devalue you.

Sunny - I can just imagine how lovely it was to be in that pool as the night closed in and the lights came on. It makes me want to sigh "ahhhhhh"

Phebess - well, the deer don't actually frolic around here, but there are herds of them that move across the land. Sometimes I feel like I'm in Africa instead of the U.S. - just outside the Boss/Wash corridor of it at that! We do walk out to that corner of the property - but not usually in the summer. too many mosquitoes.

Kate - I love the blue cookie - and I'm sure you'll handle your apology with grace and you'll feel so much lighter for having shed an wrong idea.

Donna - what were you doing in the kitchen? Not cooking, I hope. LOL - for me "a day in the kitchen" usually means cleaning the fridge or the cabinets. Ugh.

Sue - big hugs to you for working so hard on Spark Stuff during these few days at home. I hope that by the 25th your sister will be up and around moving easily.

Cindy - oh my! Baby bluebirds! You lucky thing you. And won't Little #1 be proud!!

Nell - whew for your son. The last thing he needs is flood clean-up. How are you doing after that third infusion? I hope you're starting to move back to normal.

MRSM - I'm impressed - skateboarding! too cool.

Donna - good luck with MFP

Poindextra - so good to see you post here. And congratulations on seeing the scale go down a bit.

Yoo Hoos to everyone else on the team.

We've got a reprieve from the hothothot of last week as well as the rain from the tail end of the week. Walks are more fun now. I finished the commission portrait but it needs a bit of time to jell. I will hang it on the wall for a few days to see what it might still need and then I'll deliver it to the client on Saturday. At least, I hope I will. I'm pleased that I met the Father's Day deadline - evidently I'd set that in my head.

I have Other Art waiting for me in the studio though - so I will be busy this week.

Good morning!

Weeded that asparagus bed and got the fencing up yesterday. It is ready to grow into feathery summer foliage to get ready for next year. Weíve had so much rain the weeds decided to let go easily for which I am grateful.

Writing group today and then Ďthis and that.í Hope all is good with you, team mates.

Good morning!

What a productive day at the rental house yesterday! We arrived home about 11:30 and worked until 6 pm, shopped for supplies, DH installed a new kitchen faucet, we met with a landscaper, who is helping us fix/redo a couple of retaining walls, went with me to shop for materials, while DH weed-eated, sprayed weeds, caulked here and there, installed new smoke detectors, cleaned the AC unit, etc. I plan to take some time off today to do some painting, work on a flower garden etc., contact new tenant. It's such a cute house.

No news from cousin on Bob, and trusting this means he is out of danger, as was said in yesterday's post.

Kellie, I give you a big hug on your very full day yesterday; the early run was a perfect way for you to prepare for the conversation. Take a minute to be proud of yourself, and think how far you've come in strengthening your "emotional" muscles over this past year. Hugs.

Reading with lots of interest about alternative tracking apps. I have a blog in my head about SP closing, kinda building on Kellie's characterization of it as a "graduation" of sorts, combined with the book I'm reading "Atomic Habits". If I only had a bit of time to sit at a keyboard--soon, I hope. Now that I've had a week to process my feelings.

I better scoot. Crossfit class, semi-annual dental cleaning, a bit of work, vacation time to work on rental house. Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!!
