Phebess your last comment was interesting as I think I remember Sparkguy sold his first tech company then started SparkPeople. I wouldnít be surprised if this is true once again for him.

Maree, how frightening! I'm glad the people were able to get medical help quickly!

Bess, I hope you had a nice visit with your sister.

Happy birthday, Toni!

Cindy, I've always felt that new clothes are the best reward! Especially new clothes in smaller sizes!

Oh Kellie, I'm sorry your x is now saying this - after putting you through so much emotionally. Only you know what you need, but truly look at the situation and definitely talk to your therapist before making any decisions. And trust is truly a huge issue in a relationship. Hugs to you. Let me know if you want to talk more about this.

Donna, still working on renting a small house - we'll set up a meeting with the owners when we're in Bellingham this week.

Kate, congratulations on your cookie winning first place!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

NancyAnne, I may have missed it - is your mother having surgery? Or did the drs decide not to pursue that?

Sue, glad to hear your sister is doing better. I did some reading one day about dementia, and one thing that changes is that the part of the brain recognizing day and night seems to no longer really see the difference - so that excessive daytime sleeping can be a sign of dementia. I see this in DH at times, maybe that's part of what is going on with your mother as well?

Sunny, I know, I'm truly disappointed that SparkPeople as we know it is folding up and will no longer exist!!!!

To everyone - I tried out the new SparkAmerica360 thing. It seems to be set up for the midwest at this point - to sign up, you need to list a nearby city, and pick a business you're affiliated with. (I personally have no trouble lying to bypass idiotic red tape and bureaucracy, so I picked a random pizza place listed in Akron.) Anyway, the new system doesn't seem to have the nutrition or fitness trackers, which are the parts I find help me most in losing weight. The two teams I'm active on provide emotional support, especially while we're travelling, but the nutrition and fitness trackers are my weight loss must haves.

Another SP friend said that My Fitness Pal is another free site that includes similar food and exercise trackers, so I likely will migrate over there. And I tried the google link think for the maintainers, but didn't realize I had to do my real name - so I ended up asking to join. Not sure how that will work.

What a shock, though! I came back from a fun evening at the niece and her husband's house (and she was wearing one of my dresses, which was perfect on her) - only to find out about SP. Yikes, I feel almost betrayed!

Someone on another team did some online sleuthing and found that SP has been apparently purchased by a company that either owns or operates a variety of other businesses, including Vionics (shoes). It isn't clear if SP was sold or obtained in a corporate merger or what. But apparently it is true.

You'd think SparkGuy would let each of us know, wouldn't you???

Just. So. Frustrating!!!

Seeing everyone on the zoom call was so much fun, who knew that Maree was going to provide such excitement. After seeing the interior of the houseboat, it is clear why she, her DH and the family like to be there, just a beautiful place.

Thanks to Toni for setting it up, who know those Zoom skills would connect with the team.

MAREE
It was amazing that nothing else caught on fire after seeing the billowing black smoke. Wonderful that the weather cooperated and allowed all of you to have a great weekend.

BESS
I got all the family photos organized for our family, my relatives, my DHís family, my FILís family, and some miscellaneous people who were really really close friends of the parents and grandparents. I talked with my sister and I am going to send what I donít want of our family to her. What do you do with all these photos of people no one knows?

TONI
My daughterís birthday is next Sunday, yes to wonderful June women.

NELL Such a difficult situation, but I hope it is improving some.

CINDY
I loved Chicago but could not live in a place that was so flat, Kansas sound similar. I agree about wearing plain colors and no patterns, it makes life so much easier.
Hope your beef customer and her family are doing ok. Things can happen so suddenly.

KELLIE
A graduation party is such a high for everyone because it means so much to the graduate and to family and friends. Nice that you got to see your family. How confusing about your ex and I think Maree said it best.

DONNA
My daughter and family are going to Bend, Oregon for a long weekend next week. The temperatures are 70ís to 40ís, that is Phoenix winter temperatures. Great for getting outside and walking.

MRSM84 Quite a surprise with no forewarning.

ECON
Congratulations on the cookie, of course we all think your cookies are all first-place winners.

SUE
Everyone I know that had your sisterís surgery were up and moving immediately.
I bought a couple of sun dresses at Target, I will not wear them out of the house but they are a nice change from shorts.

NANCYANNE Hope today was good for you mom. Seems odd that we only have 2 months to get ready for a major change.

PHEBESS I loved the cross country travel description and I am really happy for you that you are at the end of the journey.

The storage unit is cleared out and empty which makes my DH really happy. Half of the boxes were his stuff, part of it is various household things I keep so I donít have to keep buying something I only use occasionally and some boxes were mine. We did reduce down the boxes of books to just 1, all of the books we really wanted to keep are on shelves in the house. We went through boxes of framed photos and got rid of the work-related random photos of people we will not ever see again. Do you have framed recognition and commendation papers? The DH really had a hard time giving those up, a few we kept but the one random one from the Rotary that included a very fancy medal and some pins. An organization he was a part of because of his position, and he was glad when he didnít have to attend any more. I guess it is just hard giving up your past.

The DD and family have been here for dinner and pool time a lot but they are taking a few days off next week and going on a short vacation to visit friends in Oregon.

I have been getting out to the gym regularly and doing the water aerobics, both are helping the Pandemic tummy start to recede. This week is follow up doctor appointments, I wish they would do the telemedicine to explain that everything is ok. They all notify me when results are ready and I can go to the dashboard to see them.

SparkPeople has helped me to maintain after 3 different weight-loss and weight-regain situations with WW which is really important to me. It is clear that losing is hard but maintaining is just difficult. And I have gotten to know people on other teams, some people through their daily or weekly blog posts, not to mention the people I have met with face to face, and all of you on this team. It is a really unpleasant situation losing access. A couple of personal blogs I follow started asking for donations a few years ago to cover the costs of the technology and one went to paid subscription only.

I tried to join the googlegroup, but you have to use the name your google account is in, not your sparkname or the name people actually call you. My spark account is in my legal name, but everyone knows me by a different name. I'll have to think about it.

MRSM - It does take time for tastes to change and to build up a healthy routine but you'll get there!

Phebess - Ah yes - you did mention Bellingham and that stuck out to me as a member on one of my other community teams lives there. You do know now that the end of your journey is in sight but in the meantime you get to hang out with and have fun with your DB. Yes my sister is doing physio. She has exercises that she's doing three times a day and has been doing since she got home from the hospital. She's had two physio sessions - one this past Thursday and one the week before. Tomorrow she'll start doing twice weekly sessions and Tuesday she'll get the staples out. I think she's having less discomfort although she mentioned it was a bit achy last night - I suspect because she was up moving around more yesterday.

Maree - How scary to have the boat explosion nearby and definitely a reminder to be checking things carefully as one gets into a new season. I do hope that the two ladies make a full recovery. And yes - that news was the first thing I saw when I checked in to SP this morning although I didn't see the article until later - just the announcement of the google group. I don't normally check in before I watch my church service but I had a few minutes and was shocked when I saw the news.

Bess - I hope that you enjoyed the day with your sister!

Toni - emoticon ( maybe a bit late by the time you see this). It would have been fun to be in on the zoom call - maybe next time.

Nell - I hope as those antibiotics kick in and you start to feel better and more like eating, you'll see the weight return. I got the impression that as they are partnering with businesses, they will be able to keep the site free but any comments I've seen for those who have checked it out are not favourable. They find it "cold" and there's no community which is why so many people keep coming to SP daily.

Cindy - I have to laugh at your BIL being freaked out by hills and curvy roads! They make thing much more interesting than straight flat roads! They get boring quickly! I'm probably feeling a bit less fatigued today so maybe I was just tired yesterday and last night. Mom seems lethargic today but it has been hotter than it's been since I first got here and the heat does wear her out so it's not surprising. I find dresses much cooler as a rule in the summer and actually bought three "tent" dresses - one all linen and the other two cotton and linen blend - to wear even around the house when it's hot although I can definitely wear them to go out. Rather wishing I'd packed one of them! i agree that solids are easier to mix and match and I often add a splash of pattern with a scarf - I have quite a collection of them. They're not so great this time of year - too hot - but great if it's a bit cooler or cold.

Kellie - Thanks - Mom's still tired but heat gets to her and it's suddenly hot - no A/C in the house either. You certainly got thrown for a loop with the ex! That would be very upsetting so glad that the therapist is willing to answer emergency calls. I hope that you can get some sleep tonight - keeping to some routine today could help.

Nancy Anne - I posted a comment too and also joined the google group but my mail is filling up (haven't gone to check all of it) so if it means that my gmail is going to be clogged with mail from people commenting, I won't remain in the group. I haven't done FB in years and don't think I want to start. I haven't heard of MeWe before. That will drive me nuts! Hope that all is going well with your sister and mom.

Donna - I agree with your comment on SP shutting down. I've been on SP since 2010 but didn't really jump into teams (I joined a bunch but didn't comment on anything aside from a very few times) until 2016. However that's when I met you on our Canadians team as you wintered in Arizona (I believe). You and Charlotte are two of my oldest Spark friends and I would never have known you or many other people, had it not been for the spark community. This has been a main connection to people for me the past 15 months since my activities shut down.

Kate - emoticon on getting first prize on your cookie! It's always nice to be home again!

Maree - emoticon on that comment to Kellie.

Pretty quiet day here. As noted above, mom gets listless with the heat which hit this morning. I did get the blinds closed up bit fabric verticals don't provide much insulation against the heat. It's cooling down now and should be cool enough for sleeping. I do have to remember to pull the blinds down on the front porch windows because they get lots of sun in the morning so it was too hot for mom to sit outside. BIL, my nephew and his GF came in from the hunt camp with their dogs and spent a bit of time - mainly with my sister downstairs. Showers were top on their list too. They did come up to see mom for a few minutes. It was nice to catch up a bit because we haven't chatted too much the other couple of times I've seen him recently. Kind of strange that I'd go for a few years and not see him and now I've seen him more than my own kids! Mom wanted to get ready for bed before 4 o'clock this afternoon but I convinced her to wait until after dinner. Now she's relaxing - maybe snoozing a bit - in her chair. My choice is to either go do the dishes or go re-do a post on another team that disappeared into cyberspace when I tried to post a link to the article! emoticon

Kellie,

What a change of heart by your ex-husband, creating a roller coaster of feelings and emotions for you! Here are my thoughts, IMHO.

Obviously you have confided the most intimate details with your therapist and you are wise to seek her counsel. I expect she will help guide you through the evaluation of your feelings, and tell you that it is ultimately your decision whether you want to hear him out, whether you want to consider re-establishing a relationship with him on some mutually agreeable terms or shut it down completely. While it might be interesting to hear how others handled somewhat similar situations, none of them involved the two unique persons involved here - you and your ex-, and none are exactly the same circumstances and reasons for the breakdown of your marriage. All well meaning, I'm sure. But just like no two of us respond the same to diet and exercise, there's no real comparison to you and your situation.

Whatever you decide, you only need to answer to yourself. And the beauty of the last year is that you know yourself so much better now.

You can count on our support no matter what. No judgments, one way or the other.

Just had to pop in with that. Hugs

Kellie, back when I first started dating my husband, his ex wife would send him long letters, or at least the envelopes were thick. He always threw them out. He said he had no interest in anything she had to say anymore, why listen to it? She put him through hell, cost him a LOT of money, he was done. We've been together for 40 years without any interference from her. Their son has to listen to her all the time, but doesn't share, he's very good about not wanting to get in the middle. He figured that she wanted the divorce, once the judge signed the order he was done. You don't have to listen to your ex anymore.

Kellie, just went down and checked your initial post, after seeing the comments by someone (Phebe?) about it.

I wish I were surprised. I kinda had in the back of my mind he might do this, and may have even mentioned way back when it was happening not to be surprised if he came crawling back. Then again, I may not. My brain is hazy on anything it doesn't absolutely have to keep.

At any rate, I'm really sorry that he's STILL putting you through garbage. You don't have any children in common, right? If that is the case, you may want to block his number and tell him not to contact you again. Seems not worth the emotional trauma he has the potential to rain down on your life. Enough is enough, IMHO.

Hope you don't mind me saying that. I just hate to see you being traumatized by him. Again.

Hey everyone, I just heard the news. I'm not sure what it all means right now, but I'm kind of sad because this website has been so helpful for so many people, and I just came back to it after a hiatus

I would love to be able to still keep in touch with everyone. I don't want any of us to lose this support. A lot of you guys have known each other for years and years.

I remember talking to Nell, and several of you over these past years, and you guys have been so so helpful!

Well, I better get going and get ready for the day. I hope you guys have a great day.

First of all Happy Birthday to you Toni. How sweet of your DH to spoil you today and yeah for dinner with friends. Sounds like a perfect day to me too. emoticon

Yes I read the Spark article first thing this morning sand I am very sad. Even with the new platform, so matter what it ends up being, I will not be included. I have been on this site since 2010 and I will miss so many people! Now what....
We have ďtalkedĒ to each other almost every day and have journeyed through our lives knowing we had good friends to help us through our days. With all the effects of Covid it has been wonderful to have each other.

Kellie when you told us about your text I wondered if that is what he wanted. I am so sorry you have to go through this right now and very thankful for you that have your therapist who is there for you immediately. I know you will have the strength to make the right decision for you now. Sending big hugs your way...

Maree sending prayers for those involved in yesterdayís fire. I canít even imagine how awful it is for those in the hospital. It was a very scary situation.

Cindy good for you for having the expertise to be able to alter all your clothes. I donít even have a sewing machine any more.

Nell, are you getting back to some semblance of normal now that you have been on the antibiotics for awhile? We still worry about you!

Phebess enjoy your family time. I am sure it is wonderful to catch up with your family. Enjoy the short drive home. I bet it will be nice to get settled for awhile. Did you end up finding an apartment to rent? I sure hope we get to see each other this year.

We were suppose to get rain this weekend but havenít seen much unless it rained during the night. Hopefully I can get out for my walk later. It is cloudy and cool here and nothing like the 90+ some of you are experiencing.

I sure hope we can figure out something to keep us together....
I thought it was strange we hadnít had any SparkMail from Sparkguy in awhile....now we know why....

I am also wondering if the article is for real, as they have always, to my knowledge, had an author. However, after leaving a, slightly scathing, comment on the article, I did go ahead and request to join the Google group. Not sure how much I'll use it, but I'm there.

What can we do to salvage our group, if it is real? (And honestly, it could be set up to look like a hoax and undermine SP.) I'd hate to lose all of you.

I am staggered about losing our team even more than our site. It really isnít clear about what will happen with teams? Oh man.

And Kellie, I am staggered by your news and glad you have the support of your therapist and as you know, all of us!

"Ad free" to me means they'll start charging for the new site. I suppose it was inevitable that they couldn't maintain the free model in the age of ad blockers.

Happy Birthday Toni! I hope you have a wonderful day of being doted on and quality time with friends.

It was so lovely chatting with you guys, hearing voices and seeing facial expressions. I would love to do that once in a while!

I had a nice time at my sister's for her son's high school graduation celebration. Nice being with family and friends.

I feel so bad about that fire. How unsettling for everyone. I hope everyone is recoving! Bob as well.

Sue, I hope your mom is doing well this morning. A trip to the ER can be very draining.

Nell, I hope you are doing okay and don't have to do too much! It's gonna be a scorcher here as well today.

The x texted me just as we started chatting yesterday, I replied I couldn't talk till the evening. When I texted him I was home from my sister's, he called. He wants me back. I'm still in shock. He didn't really have a reason for what he did. He said I was working all those hours on the project and we seemed to have drifted. WHAT?! I was working too much for two months so you stop talking and move out of state?????!! I got quite emotional, gave him a small glimpse into what he put me through and told him I could never live at ease with him. I cried hard. He asked that I at least think about it.

I texted my therapist who was happy to do a call cuz I was a wreck. I felt good after I talked to her but still didn't sleep. I feel like I'm in an altered universe.

I'm completely drained and rattled. Gonna push myself to get to my morning routine, get some homework done and then I'd like to walk over to the Calvalcade of Planes at the airport a few blocks away. It's a tiny airport for small, private planes. They bring in the medivac copter and let kids run through it, old war planes. It would be nice to see all the families enjoying the day.

Good Sunday morning!

First off, Happy Birthday, Toni!! Hope your day---the quiet parts AND the party parts---are all lovely and enjoyable!

Maree, wow! that must've been so scary for everyone! I'm very thankful it didn't spread to any other boats or buildings, but I'm sure everyone is very shook up, and will be extra vigilant with safety in the coming days. Prayers for the injured!

Bess, I hope you have a lovely day with your sis and family photos. Sounds delightful! I am cautiously hopeful still of getting to spend a week with my sis in August. She used to live in my area, and we'd visit each other frequently. I've only seen her in person 3 or 4 times since she moved to Kansas over 20 years ago. Wish they would've retired to Oregon, but the one time she brought her Kansas-born DH here to visit he was totally freaked out by the hills and curvy roads.

Phebess, I also wear mostly solid colors. They mix and match so much more easily! And at one point I just realized they are really more "me." I noticed that in every picture I really hated of myself I was wearing something with flowers or something like that. So I go for mostly solids, with the variety coming from textures. I also understand the thing about gaining weight but not wanting to buy clothing in a larger size. I have been very mean to myself in that way in the past. I was reveling yesterday in the fact that I have TWELVE pairs of jeans/pants that ALL fit me perfectly now, and remembering the LONG time I survived with ONE pair of overalls only, because I was too fat to fit into anything else.
It will be nice to get to Bellingham and see all the green. So much prettier than the high desert. My baby brother is in Tukwilla, and I miss him. He and his family stayed put this past year, and didn't come down for Christmas. Hopefully this year. Nice that you are having good visits with your brothers.

Sue, I can imagine you are feeling a bit fatigued. That sounds completely reasonable, given your situation! And anything out of the ordinary (especially trips to the ER!) can put our elderly loved ones out of whack for a bit. My mom depends so much on routine, and gets very confused about how to do simple things when the routine gets interrupted.

I got a bit of a shock yesterday when I called one of my beef customers to let her know the butcher date, etc. Her adult (autistic) son answered the phone, which never has happened before, and told me she had just been taken to the ER. He was very agitated, and several times mentioned that he hoped she'd live. So prayers would be appreciated for Pat! Her son still really needs her, and he lost his dad not so long ago.

I got finished with all the alterations on the clothing I had pulled out of the wardrobe (yes, we have old fashioned wardrobes instead of closets), so yesterday I pulled out all the summer dresses I had stored under the bed, and got my winter sweater tucked into those drawers instead. Now I have a pile of dresses waiting for some slight alterations. I think I will try wearing them on hot days this year, especially if I'm not staying home. Now that my thighs don't rub together and make an uncomfortable rash, the dresses will be just as cool and comfortable as shorts and a lot more flattering.

Well, I think I'll grab my second cup of coffee before mama wakes up and we start our Sunday. She's going to get to ride in my loaner car today. Hopefully it'll be just as easy for her to get into, and I'll find out if her wheelchair fits into a Forester...I guess if it doesn't, I can fold the back seats down.

Enjoy your day, everyone! I'm so happy the Zoom call went well! Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to try it!

Cindy

Alert! Unbelievable! See SP email message posted by 4A-HealthBMI (Anja)

I am hit in the gut by this announcement. We're losing our SP Team! Anja has created a Google alternative. We have until mid-August to find alternatives.

Good morning. Another blazing day awaits, I'll be indoors in the air conditioning.

Maree, how awful about the explosion! I'm glad it was far enough from you to avoid direct involvement. Burns are terrible injuries even if you survive.

Happy Birthday Toni! Enjoy the day!

I had hoped I'd start gaining weight again by now, but it's still hard.

Good morning!

It was really fun to see and chat with everyone for the first time! On this team we know quite a bit about each othersí stories, do we not? So glad for those who joined call and everyone on the rest of the team too.

Maree, thank you for following up on the fire. What a horrible thing for the women on that boat. So glad it did not go further, and prayers for everyone involved.

Today is my birthday so I am relaxing and DH is waiting on me! Dinner tonight with friends. Looking forward to the whole day including a big hunk of quiet time.

Take care, all. Toni

Maree - fire is so scary under any circumstances. I'm so sorry your little community suffered such a tragedy. Prayers for the burn victims recovery added to Bob's. And GOSH it was fun to see you in the pixels yesterday. To see everyone. Let me add my thanks to Toni for setting this up.

I'm spending today with my sister who lives 2 hours away. We're going back to the family photo project we worked on last fall. I haven't seen her since that day! So I'll be on the road in about half an hour.

Big hugs to the whole team.

Good morning!

It was a beautiful, really perfect, day yesterday. Sunshine, warm, with a slight breeze. We came in from the sandbar so I could join the Zoom call. I brought my work laptop, but forgot the VPN fob so I called the IT Help Desk hoping they could provide a code remotely. But no, it was not that simple so I joined the call on my cell phone. Not ideal, but workable. And so enjoyable! Toni (thanks again for setting it up!), Bess, Sunny, Donna and Kellie joined, and we chatted for about an hour. Maybe we can do this every so often, a few times a year.

About 30 minutes into the call, while sitting in the houseboat galley, DH and I heard an explosion. He went outside to investigate and texted me "boat on fire at the fuel dock." Big billows of black smoke. I showed everyone on the call. I must say I was a bit shook up and distracted. The Boat Club shelter house became the ER; paramedics assisted the two ladies who were burned, one of whom was airlifted by helicopter to a St Louis hospital. No fatalities, no other boats or docks caught fire, the fuel dock did not catch fire, the young girls in the ship store hit the shut off switch. But this has truly shaken our little community here. We don't know the cause, but it could be she didn't turn on the blower switch or her battery exploded. The boat, an old cruiser, about 35', was completely destroyed.

There will be a lot of reflection today. Safety reminders.

Anyway, Bob is still progressing, thankfully. Your Prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing about your day yesterday. I hope all have a great day and stay healthy!
