Hi all - just a lot of late days where we don't get a hotel until about 7 PM, then dinner, and then trying to catch up on email.

Currently in Stuart, Iowa - we're doing between 300 and 400 miles a day, because we seem to have frequent stops.

Anyway, doing well, just tired by the end of day.

Cindy - Nothing more frustrating than getting up for the bathroom and not being able to get back to sleep! I rarely touch my computer though. I read or listen to a podcast to lull me back to sleep. I didn't get back to sleep easily last night either after getting up so popped on my headphones and a podcast and was asleep again much faster. Hope that you got back to sleep.

Bess - Unfortunately mom did get more confused as the day went on and was still fussing this morning about her hairdresser coming in. She was quite indignant when I said she couldn't come. Later this afternoon she seemed to be less confused. With mom, one never knows - never a dull moment.

Nell - I'm surprised that there aren't any handicapped parking spots at your GP's office. Adequate handicapped spaces are absolutely mandated here although in some places there are more spaces allotted than in others. I hope the Doc was told that his receptionist wouldn't give you an appointment.

Toni - I don't get the impression that mom is anxious although I can imagine that her loss of memory can be scary to her. When things go missing or something isn't as it should be, it's always "them" who are responsible. We don't know who "they" are. Easy enough to pick up a few extra items for my sister and BIL when I was already at the store. They can order their groceries and have them delivered the same day which they will probably do when they need quite a few things One of the advantages of living in a small place. However that's only available a couple of days a week and not worth utilizing when they need so few things. I'll probably run a few other errands for them while I'm here. Great that you were able to get out for that walk before it heated up too much.

Donna - Glad that you got a good night's sleep! So important to feel well-rested. And I'm glad that you can just focus on having fun and getting some exercise with your golfing rather than being overly concerned about how well - or not -you are golfing. I think that must have been a popular afghan pattern. I think it was in a Paton's booklet. The cat used to chew on some of the edges when she stretched out on top of it as it's usually over out love seat. Mainly it serves as colourful dťcor in our room - we rarely use it!

Nancy Anne - You too are to be commended for stepping in to help your mom even if she's not entirely appreciative of your observations and efforts to ensure that she gets all the care she needs and doesn't miss anything. We seem to be in much the same situation - pinch hitting for our sisters while they get a much needed break. I'm sure your mom finds the loss of independence and ability to do everything for herself frightening and doesn't want to accept that she isn't remembering all that she should when she was so active until recently. I hope that the tests give you some answers and your sister is able to enjoy her vacation. Great that you are still able to get some workouts down and have the "gym" all to yourself! We know that it helps to relieve stress.

Kellie - Amazing how different the time seems when you're spending more time in the office! Dancing ALWAYS lifts one's spirits. I've not been doing my morning dance - have to have one ear open for mom - but will get back to it when I get home. Great that your dad was able to make the trip and with only one little hiccup!

I'm feeling fatigued tonight although I feel I did very little today. It was kind of a damp one. Mom's PSW was here for four hours this afternoon and always brings lunch for mom. That gives my sister some much needed respite each week. I just hung out downstairs for the afternoon, although my sister was laying down resting for the first hour or so that I was there and BIL popped out for a couple of errands. Mom really slept in this morning - I finally had to wake her up so she'd get her breakfast and be ready to eat lunch later. I was able to get in my workout video while she was snoozing. It's been an up and down day. She seemed pretty good around supper time but a few minutes ago when I asked her if she was ready for bed she was rambling about how she had to get it settled down (she wouldn't tell me what) and she'd thought the aspirin would work (she hasn't had any). Then she went on about how lovely it was to have all her kids around, the nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Then she wondered where her (imaginary) cat(s) was, I should try again here to see if she's ready to go to bed. It doesn't help that she's probably taken out her hearing aids and I need to raise my voice for her to hear me. I'm sure I'll be sleeping well tonight - at least I hope I will be!

MAREE Are you reacquainting yourself with dress up clothes in your closet? We are going out to a nice restaurant for dinner on Sunday and I am looking at the clothes shoved into the back of the closet.

CINDY With all that you do, a good night sleep is really important, how distressing to be away too early. Hearing aids are such a problem, really needed but they can be annoying to both the people who wear them and the people who want to talk with the wearer.

BESS I miss all the things I cannot do and now I am finding that my mind is definitely not as agile or quick. Do take care with getting back to doing things after the PT is over. My DH keeps getting sent back to PT because he cannot limit himself when he is doing exercise on his own.

NELL How totally distressing that the office staff has that much control over sick people.

TONI
A zoom gathering sounds like fun. Here the masks are hit and miss, at some businesses the staff still wear the masks but the people coming in do not. The exception is the doctorís office, there was a big sign about masks required at the dentist and the blood draw office. I still wear mine, but I notice that some people who are not wearing them give me the what-are-you-doing look. Although our area has a high vaccination rate and I notice people my age are all wearing their masks.

DONNA
I loved my 50ís and early 60ís. Now it is all just maintenance.
I like the freedom of doing what I want, so taking lessons on anything does not appeal to me, although I am taking some more online virtual classes next month.

NANCYANNE
It does sound frustrating with getting correct and complete information to the doctor. My sister had the same problem, mom told the doctor everything was ok when she was not doing well.

KELLIE

Just getting up and moving helps the mental state, but I find it hard to get started sometimes also. Your dad is lively and determined. Yes to lunch outside.

Kate - That llama is adorable! I love the poses.

SUE I find it easier to get out and do something besides walking if I have a class and a time certain.
It just makes me sad to read about your mom and how hard it must be for you to take care of her right now. There are no good solutions.

I like doing the water aerobics on Tuesday or Thursday, I think it is too much to do it two days a week. I do get in our pool on the other days and have been going to the gym. I think I am going to have trouble with a routine because the DGS is out of school this week and the DH and I are the designated childcare when needed, the taxi service and food service when they all come to swim. He is back in school at the end of July. Tomorrow his dad is bringing the DGS and one of his friends to spend the afternoon here. It will be busy and then we will grill hamburgers for dinner. I will be going to bed early.

Monday and Tuesday were laundry days, I look at the basket of clothes and wonder if there is someone else wearing my things. The poor washing machine is getting its workout with all the pool towels and I got a second drying rack for outside, so we donít do the pool towels every time they are used. In our heat the towels dry very very fast.

Hey everyone! Wow, Wednesdays feel like Saturdays to me after two full days in the office Mondays and Tuesdays, especially when I had to drive over an hour each way on Monday!

emoticon

I was pretty mopy last night, thought about going to bed about 6:30 but I pulled myself up, changed my clothes, pulled up the 50-min Shine Dance Fitness video on youtube that never fails to lift me up.

I worked on some strength training during a three-hour conference call this morning. I'm still working on building strength for some kayaking this summer. The park district next town over does kayaking tours. I want to channel my inner Toni!!

emoticon

Nell, I hope your doctor comes through for you. Can he get you any easier way to get in the building? How are there no handicap spots? That's not a thing everywhere??? Is there a ride service in your area for doctor visits that could get you to the entrance?

big hugs to the caregivers, caregivers to yourself and your loved ones!

My dad got home this morning from a spur-of-the-moment four-day road trip to Michigan. He's always wanted to visit the grave of his brother who died when he was about 5. My dad is in very good health for having battled prostate cancer but I was still nervous. We kept in touch twice a day. The only hiccup was he locked his keys in the trunk Monday morning after being out for breakfast. I reminded him he recently signed up for AAA, gave him the number and he was all good inside of two hours.

I had a lovely lunch in the back yard Now back to work!

Good morning!

Checking in before I get something to eat and then work out in the little gym here. Glutes and arms today, as well as some HIIT on the elliptical, if it's not occupied. (I've been alone for every workout so far.)

Sue and Cindy- Thinking about you as you deal with your moms. Bless both of your hearts- I think you both deserve medals for being such great daughters!

Thanks everyone else for the well wishes. It's always so very good to read what's going on in your lives, even if I don't respond individually.

Yesterday Mom's cardiologist called and said that the echocardiogram showed she has enlarged lymph nodes in her chest. It does not affect her ability to have the heart surgery, but they do need to do a biopsy. During the call the doctor noted that mom has lost 26 pounds by their weights in the hospital. She asked about her diet, which mom said was good. I jumped in and said er..... not so much. Mom got short with me later about that. Of course, the reason I did that is because I felt the doctor was thinking the enlarged lymph nodes and weight loss may mean something and she needed a complete picture that Mom is probably not eating low enough to have lost 26 pounds in 3 months.

Shortly thereafter, the scheduler called to set up a telephone consult with the pulmonoligist who would be doing the biopsy. She mentioned she'd called my sister's phone and no one answered (Betsie was on a plane to Florida for a vacation with her family before she comes here and relieves me.) My mom, still irritated with me for sharing my observations with the doctor about her diet, told them to just call her from now on, there are too many people involved. Sigh. She's getting so much mixed up and we really need Betsie to be first line of defense.

I need to talk to my sister about this, but will wait until she's back from vacation. I really want her to just relax and I think I can manage until then.

And the kidney doctor messaged and said that he'd put in for labs for her on May 13th that she still has not done. After she told them not to contact Betsie anymore. She's forgetting important things that she can't actually put on the calendar.

So we're going on Friday for lab work- Lots of it.

And a scale is on it's way from Amazon!

And I'm concerned about whatever is in her lungs. I have to wonder if they're suspecting the cancer that travels through lymph nodes with the weight loss question. Then again, I am not a doctor. Or course, I'm not mentioning this to Mom. She's got enough to worry about. We'll just wait before pushing any panic buttons on that one.

And she tells me I should go home, that she feels bad I'm taking so much time to be here and she can handle it from here on out! Even if she did have all the stuff she's supposed to do down, she can't get herself into the buildings without gasping for air. So she needs me to push a wheelchair, at least. We talked about that this morning.

So that's the latest in our saga. I always intend on making this short, but then it takes a while to explain. No one could ever accuse me of having clipped speech.

I finished my hill song, by the way. It's silly, but makes me smile. :-)

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Morning all and oh wonderful it feels to have had a good nights sleep. I really donít function well on 3+ hours. No nap for me yesterday afternoon but I did go to bed early and slept well.

Cindy i sure hope you got back to sleep.

Toni I will have to double check for your email. I thought I was caught up except for today.
Thanks for organizing this for us.

Bess interesting to think of how you felt in different decades. I have always thought my 50ís were my favourite decade. It was the first time hubby and I had the freedom to do what we wanted and the energy still to do it!

Sue I made the exact same aphgan. In fact I made two of them and hubby still likes to snuggle up in his when he naps.

I canít believe how my golf game has changed since I had to stop playing for a few years. I am really enjoying being out with my friend but I donít think I want to go as far as taking lessons to improve. Just going out and enjoying the experience is enough for me now. Maybe I have to much other stuff going on to think about dedicating a lot of time to improving. My friend feels the same way. Just getting out and having a few laughs a d some exercise is wonderful
Sometimes you are just in a difference place.

Maree in office clients must feel like quite a change, Slowly life is changing isnít it?

Nell these gatekeepers sometimes need to relent a little and maybe your doctor needs to let you know how to bypass her. Even your doctor knows he needed to talk to you sooner. I am so sorry....

We are suppose to get lots of rain in the next few days so I just may have to miss my walks. We will see what happens. Thank goodness for YouTube

Back from my trot. Glad it is behind me as it is already heating up. One stretch can be in the sun unless I go early and I did not want that.

Donna, how was golf?
Cindy, with your plate so full losing sleep is aggravating. Hope you can catch that nap.
NancyAnne, so far so good with your mom. Hope she gets to avoid dialysis.
Bess, I did ask for info on the best times and make a suggestion for time of day for Zoom. I suspect it will work out.

Nell, I hope that doc gave you a way to get through to him when you are sick. Gate keepers have their limits and all of us need to know when to say Ďmayday.í Did he tell you what to say and when to come in?

Sue, great you can help your sis and BIL. I can tell you roll with your mom. Is she anxious at times? To be so out of touch with time seems like it might be frightening?
Maree, how did it go meeting Ďfor real?í In VA the mask mandates are coming down. At Food Lion they are asking non-vaccinated people to wear them and there are masks around, but not as many.

Ready for my post walk, nap, lol. I think itís a joke, but we shall see! Have a terrific day, friends.

Toni

Boy I wish I could sleep through the night! I finally talked to my doc yesterday, he was upset that I had waited so long to talk to him, until I was terribly sick again, but it was his receptionist that said he wasn't available for 5 weeks. I have to get a bunch of bloodwork done and go see him in person next week, let's see if his office lets him. Seeing my GP is tough, there are no handicapped parking spaces so it's a long walk on a cane.

NancyAnne, I sure hope your mother won't need dialysis since she is so opposed to it.

I feel very different now than I did when I was younger. I have a lot more experience to draw on, I look back at some of the decisions I made and events that loomed large and wonder what I was thinking. I guess that's called wisdom. Too bad it's accompanied by an aging body.

Toni - what a good idea - I think I'll take a walk myself just as soon as I post this! Did you send a list of suggested dates and times?

Maree - I can almost feel my body repairing when I go to sleep at night. Sleep as nutrition, I sometimes think of it. I've always been able to drop off immediately but sometimes I will wake and not be able to get back to sleep - fortunately - being retired, it seldom matters - I can nap or sleep late. Or go to bed early the next day.

Sue - How good that you can get out and help your sister and BiL with the shopping. And that your mama wasn't too terribly confused yesterday. Yes yes! I would love to see her afghan too. I have always liked that pattern. I use a similar stitch pattern in socks, done with, of course, much thinner yarn and smaller needles.

Sally - Good that you got the spot looked at right away. did you get a blistering sunburn as a little one? I can't believe how hard we tried to burn ourselves into a fashionable tan when we were young.

Donna - yay for golf!

Nancyanne - thank goodness that trip is over and done with. Fingers crossed (and prayers continue) that your mama won't need dialysis. I confess - I began humming along with you after reading your doo-dah lyrics. (giggle)

Cindy - well - you've skipped over yesterday now - or at least, it's behind you. I sure hope it turned out to be an easier day than you'd expected. I lift my cup to you and wish your today is just a blissful glide.

Nell - I hope you're doing okay. Yoohoos to everyone else on the team.

Interesting conversation about how old you feel vs how old you really are. I do feel older - there are aches and issues that remind me that my body, while generally in good health, is not what it once was. I think, because in my 30's my ankles were injured to the point I could no longer make sudden shifts in movement - as in - no more tennis - and then I injured my back in my early 50's so some other things had to stop - I have noticed a progression towards age. It's just that - I didn't think the shortening of years meant I had to quit doing anything. Another option always presented itself when a former activity departed.

What's more telling to me has always been the progression of authority. In my 30's people still thought I was a hot young thing and were amazed that I was also smart. In my 40's people obeyed me. In my 50's people consulted me for advice. In my 60's I suspect people think I am lucky. Who knows - in my 70's I may amaze people again - LOL - that I'm still up and at'em.

I have loved all my ages and all the perks that have come with them. And for that - I would say I really am lucky.

Happy Hump Day for those to whom a weekend still has meaning. Big hugs to you all.

Good Wednesday morning. It's 3:21 a.m., and here I am, not getting my consistent sleep you recommend, Maree. Couldn't fall back to sleep after getting up to pee at 2:15, so finally got bored and got on here. I don't normally do this, so hopefully one night won't shorten my longevity too much, LOL.

Yesterday turned out to be OK. Morning shopping and homeschool went fine. The trip to the audiologist with mom took all afternoon, but the drive was easier than I anticipated, we really liked the audiologist, and mom is getting some new hearing aids. Hopefully they will be much better, as her current ones have not been working very well as of late, and it's been frustrating to all of us. My meeting last night was loooong, and I ended up leaving before it was done, because it was getting nearly time to get mama to bed. Then I went straight to bed without even reading. Think I was asleep by 10. But that's still only 4 hours of sleep, so going to head back to bed and hopefully get another hour or two.

Hope to stop by again later when more of you have posted. Not used to being only the second post of the day, LOL.

Good morning! Hump day!

That was a good night's sleep! One of the longevity doctors I follow recently posted a list of all the repair and restoration that occurs while we sleep. No wonder there's such a big emphasis on staying consistent with sleep schedule. I hope you were able to catch a nap, Donna.

I'm running late today, but glad to hear from Nancy Anne and the good news of a less invasive procedure. And successful navigation through SF! Now, if only no dialysis.

Phebess must not have had wifi along her travels?!

Better scoot. Deadlift work today at crossfit class. And meeting a real live client at a branch Bank today!! Means dressing up a bit.

Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!
