Phebess - Sounds like fun - glad that you enjoyed it and didn't succumb to the hype! I was not asleep by 11:30 last night - had too much stuff on the bed to even get into it at that time but I did sleep well - and a bit late - thank you! We shall see how things go with mom over the next couple of weeks. It doesn't surprise me that businesses might still require masks as they have no idea who, of the people coming through their doors, may or may not have been vaccinated. I imagine that they want to keep their staff safe and healthy. Nice to have a quieter day and a chance to make some plans for your cross country trek even if they are subject to change.

Maree - How fun to have an "aspiring artist" and how wonderful to encourage her interest by purchasing, framing and hanging her pictures! Our long weekend is upon us - the traditional weekend for cottagers to get the cottages opened for the summer.

Bess - Thanks for the kind thoughts. The next two weeks should be interesting to say the least. And I'm so happy that my sister can have this surgery now when I can be here for an extended period of time to help. IF some of my activities start back up in the fall, I won't have long stretches when I can be here like this. Sounds like you had a productive day! Enjoy the gallery. emoticon for the way the PT has helped you!

Toni - I'm glad that you had a great time. Always wonderful to be with family and sad to have to leave but at least you go home with good and happy memories to keep!

Cindy - Thanks. I think we need to be realistic about how much care mom continues to need and whether we need more help or - heaven forbid - need to put her on a list for a home. We hope it doesn't come to that. Maybe my brother can come up sometime while I'm here and we can discuss some things. Mom is almost 100 - we can never be sure from day to day how much longer she'll be with us so if we can keep her in familiar surroundings, we will do all that we can to make that happen. My BIL has been very good to help the last little while especially in the evenings. How wonderful that you were able to enjoy the time in the park with the Littles - and NO rain!

Nell - I hope that you get more answers when you consult with the GI next week.

NancyAnne - I guess I missed your post yesterday - busy last night but I can imagine that going from active to almost a complete stop would be tough on your mom. I'm sure she'll enjoy the distraction and change of scenery

Sunny- It is hard to make decisions - we do not want to upset mom and sometimes it's hard to know what will be upsetting. I know my sister will do all she can to keep mom here in her home as long as possible and hopefully for the remainder of mom's life.

Donna - Some days go like that! I'm still trying to catch up here. Travel days to mom's sometimes mean my computer doesn't see the light of day until late afternoon or, like today, early evening.

Kellie - Easy enough to make a mistake on the assignment when you are busy. emoticon for the self therapy! Good luck getting the right one turned in soon!

Well it's been a busy one - with sleeping in a bit and the travel although today I was just the passenger. Hubby loaded everything and unloaded at least half of it. My sister and BIL were out in front when we got here - like they could hardly wait for me to arrive! LOL! Hubby stayed for a short visit then headed back because he wanted to go to the grocery store today. Tomorrow is likely to be much busier around town as it's the our Victoria Day weekend. I too headed down to the grocery store here late this afternoon to pick up some things that I will want/need and some things that mom needed - at least enough to get us through the weekend. Mom was trying to get into a fleece nightgown - temp here today was probably mid 80s! - even though my sister left a light nightgown for her on the bed. I got most of her lighter clothing out after dinner (not what I was planning) so I could get the fleece nightgowns and heavier tops out of sight. Still more to do but I'll get to it. I also got mom's lighter bedspread out for her bed and eventually got my bed made. And speaking of beds, should soon head to mine!

Maree, your granddaughter's art is great - so colorful and joyous!

Bess, I think Hershey is a great place for a day or two, as long as people are willing to accept that it's now commercialized and touristy. Fun but not reality.

Toni, I'm glad you had a wonderful time, however much time you were there.

Cindy, too much sugar makes me feel ill at this point - so it's easy to remind myself of that and not do too much chocolate. Though our hotel has a bowl of kisses in the lobby - I've only had a few each day, but still.....

Nell, while the prednisone has so many unpleasant side effects, it does sound like it will speed up the healing in your insides. I hope it helps!

NancyAnne, coffee and people watching is a great low-key way to get out and do something that won't wear your mother out. Brilliant plan!

Sunny, I agree that the authentically cute places are overrun with tourists, and then nearby places try to cash in on the cuteness and go overboard. Leavenworth, WA is a prime example!!!

Donna, I hope you get a courtesy car while the van is worked on - I know what you mean about being the only person taking care of household chores and errands!!! NOT easy!

Kellie, your professor sounds wonderful!!! At some workshop, we learned to NOT say "wrong answer" and instead respond with something like, "that's a good answer for a different question, we'll get to that later on." So yay to your accommodating professor!!!

Today turned into laundry day, and some discussion of our route across the country. I'm sure things will change as we go, but we have a vague plan.

Tomorrow we head to Lancaster for the Bat Mitzvah on Saturday.

Hey there! Pulling my chair up to our group table a little late!

emoticon

What a day. Work.... okay enough of that. I just finished my Thursday night discussion post for school and saw an email from my instructor that I turned in the wrong assignment last Sunday. She said to turn the correct one in as soon as possible, she will not take off points for lateness since I did turn in an assignment, just the wrong one. I can't believe I did that. DOH!!

AAAAAAND, I made the Presidents List for the winter term due to my grade point average. I never ever thought I'd read that about myself. Only took me 50 years!

emoticon

Nell, I think of you every day, hoping someone gets you some relief! Phebess, that was great how accommodating they were at Hersey Park for you husband! Yay for more range of motion Bess!

I had therapy earlier. There's usually a song playing when I get in the car afterward that boosts me or helps me release a few more emotions. Tonight it was Joan Jett's I Hate Myself For Lovin You. I turned it up and sang along LOUD! I chuckled at myself at the end.

Okay, let's bring on the weekend!

Hi all, it is really late for me today. I had to take the car in this morning and that ended up taking most of it. This afternoon is much needed housework. Tomorrow the van has to be taken in again and that will be for most of the day. 5a fully we will have a courtesy car so I can get to Costco for hubby’s meds. It sure makes a difference when one person has to do all the chores.
It is lovely here today but unfortunately I won’t get to enjoy it much. That’s ok I really needed to get things in order here.

Nell I sure hope the prednisone helps with the pain. I can just imagine how frustrating it must be to feel this way for so long.

Maree, I love your picture display. Your Dh is a real sweetie giving the pictures as a Birthdsy gift. It’s a long weekend here, Victoria Day, but we won’t be going very far. At least the forecast is pretty decent.

Bess it’s not hard to get distracted when you have a chance to go into town. I hope you got to work on your projects today.

NancyAnne I am sure your Mom will lone the outing today. People watching can be very entertaining. It must be so hard for her to be like this when she is so use to being busy. I know I sure wouldn’t like it either. She will love having you there with her as she goes through this very difficult time.
Would your hubby be able to fly there and drive back with you. I bet you both could use the break.

Toni it is so hard to leave family after such a lovely holiday. Did the bride decide in a dress?
Safe travels home.

Cindy I feel the same way when I read everyone’s posts. It’s like sitting around having and having our morning coffee together.
Glad the day worked out yesterday with the Littles and the weather cooperated.

Sunny I sure remember the lovely evening in the desert. It was my favourite time of day. Hopefully we will, have patio dining weather soon.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone...

I love having the cleaning person come, she keeps all the corners from getting filled with dust bunnies. I am worried because she is having trouble finding people to work and is doing so much of it herself.
Putting any art work in a frame makes it look better, what a wonderful thing to do. Memorial Day arrived so soon.

BESS
I find that it is easy to talk myself into one more stop when I am out doing errands, then the day is gone. How fun to go to an art gallery, I always enjoyed the shows where the artists were there. We will go up to Scottsdale next Fall, the DH still wants to wait until the end of the summer.

TONI
My heart would break every time I had to say good by after visits to see the DD. But you do have another schedule date to go back.

CINDY It is amazing how the storms can veer off.

NELL It seems like such a long time to be having such problems I wish the medicines were helping more.

NANCYANNE
It is good that you are there to help your mom. At least the weather is nice but a little windy. There is such a balance between doing enough to keep you and your mind active and the limits of your health.

SUE It is so hard to make the decisions about caring for an aging parent, it so emotional. In the midst of the summer there are no temperatures below about 80 at any time of the day or night. It is great that the hospitals are doing the electives after all your planning. I love driving trips, I always pack everything I can into the car.

PHEBESS
It seems like most of the “used to be cute” places are now very touristy.

I made it out to water aerobics this morning and I will do some of the routines this weekend in our pool. I plan to go off to the indoor track tomorrow because our morning temperatures are getting too warm even early in the morning. However the evening temperatures are perfect for sitting outside.

The grocery store is on my list of errands today and there are some shutters to wipe down.

Another quick check-in.

Cindy- Mom knows who I am, no problem. It's more her short-term memory that is affected. For instance, she just figured out that one of her plants is WAY over watered. Looks like she's forgetting that she watered them the last time and hits them again.

Mom is bored out of her skull and can't do much because she gets so short of breath and dizzy so quickly- Her failing heart valve just can't keep up. She's doing all she can, but it's not much. This is a woman who, at 76, had two part time jobs (one as a preschool teacher!) and volunteered with the historical homes on Mare Island helping with weddings. She likes to stay busy. And here she is forced almost to a stop.

I did suggest to her that today we get some coffee (she loves coffee), go down to the end of first street (very quaint) here and people watch. She enjoys that. So that gives her something to look forward to. It's calming, will give her a change of scenery, and something to entertain her mind.

I need to scoot. Time for a bit of a workout in the little gym here. And I mean LITTLE. They do have a few pieces of cardio equipment, a bench, and free weights up to 15 lbs. Light, but I can bring my bands and make it work. Then I'll shower and we'll scoot.

I need to get going. I pray everyone has a blessed day!

Good morning.

I talked to my GP yesterday. She told me to stop winding down the prednisone until I talk to my GI doc next week. She said there isn't much to do for me until I get the underlying disease under control, I hope I can learn more about that on Tuesday afternoon. The new drug sure isn't doing much yet, as of now I feel like I'm not being treated at all. She told me not to bother with nutritional supplements, most of that just gets passed through. If I need supplementation it would have to be by injection or infusion to be effective.

Maree, I love the art gallery. Like Cindy, my grands are way too prolific with their art to even begin to display much of it.

I must say I'm not afraid of snakes. We have them around here, most are garden snakes that eat garden pests so they are welcome here. The chipmunks probably don't like them much, though.

Happy Thursday morning.

Reading all your posts just makes me so happy. So fun to think of each of you, spread all over the continent, doing your different things. I'll be thinking of Toni as you fly home today after a lovely time in CO. And Nancyanne, on my side of the continent, as you take care of your mama. Does she still know who you are? I hope so! I'm really praying my mama doesn't ever forget who I am. We have enough trouble communicating with her deafness and the way the stroke has limited her ability to say what she wants to say, without adding dementia to the mix!
Maree, I just love that your DH bought you DGD's artwork for your birthday! Although not framed, I have artwork done by the Littles taped up all over my house. They do so MUCH artwork, though, that there isn't room to put it all up. This year, especially, with staying home all the time, they go through so much paper every day!!
Sue, I'm also thinking of you as you take care of your mama. Maybe this extended stay will give you a better feeling of whether your sister should still be trying to handle the job without some paid help. I know the last couple of years of my dad's life I just couldn't have made it without hiring someone part-time to give me a break. Sara was totally a life-saver!!
Nell, we are all SO hoping you find some relief and a solution to help you feel MUCH better, and SOON!!
Phebess, I don't know if I could have resisted all that chocolate! I don't have much self-control when it comes to chocolate...

Yesterday the sky looked very threatening when the Littles and I left for town. It was super windy, and we could see rain pouring from some very black clouds in the distance. We made up our minds to be satisfied with just going to the library. We had fun there, and got 20 more books (all of which Little#1 will be able to read), and 2 movies, and put 4 more movies on hold. When we stepped out of the library, it was sunny and no longer super windy. We went across the street to the park, and they had a blast there for quite awhile. Even played in the sandbox. No rain here. I even got to chat with a stranger, something I used to enjoy at parks all the time, but this year I have been missing that. We did not wear our masks at the park, but they were still required inside the library.

OK, it's a bath day for mama, and it's nearly 6 a.m., so I'd better be going. Big hugs and hellos to each of you.

Cindy

Good morning!

Flying home today, always a little tough. But am taking home the fun and love of this happy couple.

We drove to Grand Junction, CO yesterday and had lunch outside on a very pretty day. Then we went to an amusement park on the top of a mountain. DH rode a coaster, but not me. Terror does not attract me, lol! We did ride a gondola dnd do a short very well protected zip line—not the rugged kind with helmets that makes it to people’s bucket lists. Maybe will do that some day.

Vail still has restaurants at half capacity but no mask requirements as of yesterday. Feels good but takes some getting used to.

Onward to packing and will catch up with all of you in next day or so!

Maree - I will post a link to the slideshow when it's done. I thought I'd have it done yesterday but time had other plans. I LOVE your DGD's artwork, framed on the wall. Especially her choices of colors. I suddenly remembered Memorial Day too - because I have to do an inspirational reading and I haven't picked one yet. Better get busy.

Phebess - I can do kitsch sometimes. I was surprised that where my DiL is from, that adjective is used for Gypsy architecture - which is steep roofed with lots of ornamental curlicues as trim, especially on the roof. If you remember the curled tin Christmas tree ornaments made from the lids of tin cans, imagine a house covered all over with such curlicues. We have been talking about a trip to Valley Forge and it's only an hour and a half drive from Hershey - we might take that in sometime.

Sue - It's good to think your sister will get this operation over with. I sure hope her recovery goes swiftly and with the least amount of pain. And that caring for your mom turns out to be mostly gentle joy. And that you get plenty of opportunity to exercise.

Nancyanne - oh man - that would be a hard choice to dismiss. And goodness I'm sorry your mama is so disoriented. She has to be scared and thank goodness you can be there for her. I know you're tired - but this is one thing you will look back on and be eased ... some day in the future. Big hugs to you both.

Sunny - you will have to yield to Mother Nature. How good it is that you have the gym and its pool. Hope to have that slideshow up tomorrow.

Donna - LOL - I actually like Brussel sprouts too - in moderation and with the right sort of dinner. But it isn't a question now - I got to the grocery store. Enjoy that hair appointment. Did you decide to keep your hair a little longer?

Toni - how could a week go by so fast? What a lovely way to spend it though. I bet you are hugging like made there as your visit winds down.

Cindy - thank you for the kind words. And enjoy your library visit. I hope the rain came - but after playing in the park.

Nell - Did your doctor have any suggestions to ease your pain and help with nutrition?

Kellie - I realize that many people have that same crippling fear of snakes. My son and husband both have the instinct to smash and run but won't display it - probably not a manly behavior in their eyes. And more women I know have pet snakes than men, though I don't know very many people who have them. I'd fall into the pet snake category except that I think snakes are better off for living in their natural habitat. What I don't like is any creature, wild or not, humping out at me or even worse - biting. So I look but don't touch when it comes to creatures - great and small.

I ended up getting sucked into the vortex of town yesterday and didn't get home till about 1:30, though I left early. The rest of the day was spent doing research for a couple of projects - one of which really ought to be done asap. Like - today. In the evening we are going to an art opening at a gallery in Richmond. The artist wants DH to read some his poetry at the opening. I'm interested in seeing this gallery/art space because it's been years since I was there and it has many different kinds of shows.

I did some morning yoga yesterday and I could tell I have more range of motion in that left hip of mine - more proof of the efficacy of PT. I'm so glad I booked those sessions.

Happy Friday Eve to you all!

DGD's artwork. First photo is sideways (sorry). The print on the far left is not her work, obviously. She asked her mom why Paw Paw bought them as they weren't that good. I hope hanging them inspires her to do her best work! She has a week of Art Camp coming up after school ends for the year.

Good morning, friends, on this lovely Friday Eve!

Wow, I never take for granted how it feels to walk into this house after the cleaning lady has done her magic! The whole house clean at that one moment (well, maybe a bit longer). Just once a month; it keeps us on track.

Bess, if you could share your slide show with us, too, that would be much appreciated. Not sure, but I suspect DH and I will be hiking the bluffs alongside the Mississippi River Saturday morning. I need to try my new hiking boots. I can't believe next week is Memorial Day weekend! No adding an extra day now that DH is working at this new job. But DD and family will be with us. They are renting a cabin from the marina. I'm sure looking forward to it.

Oh, Nancy Anne, I'm sorry to hear your mom is so confused. Yes, good thing you're there. I love that you are dreaming of a drive back. Believe it or not, I have difficulty "dreaming" of vacation activities (other than our houseboat getaway, that is).

Nell, did your doctor make some recommendations?

Time to scoot! Rowing and box jumps at crossfit class today. I'll post a picture of DGD's artwork that I framed and hung up. I told her I have more room. (These are the prints she tried to sell from her driveway one Sunday as a fundraiser for Healthcare workers earlier this year. No one stopped. DH bought them all for my birthday).

Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!
