Hey, just a quick stop back by before I hit the hay tonight. Phebess, it's Covid restrictions that are the problem as far as bathroom availability. I never used to worry, because, like you, I looked for parks close to nice bathrooms. But ours are mostly not available now, because of stupid coronavirus.

Very late getting on here today - afternoon disappeared pretty quickly today.

Phebess - That was a lot of repacking. I'd probably prefer the splash of colour too for your outfit so be who you are! Hopefully no one objects to the tattoo which I'm sure looks prettier than a scar. Blocking a sweater depends on how long it takes to dry and how it is blocked. I stretch things out on the spare room bed and make sure that the ceiling fan above it is on to help it dry. I got the sweater stretched out on the bed late yesterday afternoon and put a very damp towel over it. It was dry by the time I went to bed late last night but I didn't move it until this afternoon when I was packing up the heavier sweaters. Pictures have just been downloaded on to my computer so here's one"

Can you pack some things that you don't need on the train but might want in the next few months in your vehicle as it is shipped on the train? That would lighten the luggage load. I know I always pack too much - want to be prepared for any eventuality and weather condition unless I know what the forecast will be while I'm gone. I wouldn't want to do all of that driving either. The train will be more relaxing for both of you and you can enjoy the scenery more when you don't have to concentrate on driving.

Nancy Anne - emoticon I'm sure you are relieved to have all of that behind you and have the house firmly in your name(s)! I have been to Indiana once - when hubby's younger brother got married almost 8 years ago in downtown Indianapolis. We've driven through it a couple of times since always on our way from western Canada to visit hubby's same brother when he lived in Ohio. He and his DW now live in Florida but have a condo outside of Indianapolis (Noblesville) close to where her mother still lives. That is a provincial number - not just our area which is safer than the larger cities to the south. Provincial population is about 14 million, 7 day average of new cases is still about 2800. In our county we have about 72 new cases - most of those will be in the south end of the county where the population is denser.

Maree - It will be wonderful to have the option of being in the office or at home which allows you to decide on the right balance for you.

Toni - There's nothing like fresh asparagus in the spring! Enjoy! Thanks - turns out our son is in to the office a couple of days a week and doing well, so mother was worrying needlessly!

Bess - Thanks - those warmer temperature did show up today! emoticon I sent my son a text to see if he had time to chat and waited for him to reply. He actually was at work - dealing with a software problem that I'm not sure did get resolved - so he called me when he was on his drive home (thank you blue tooth technology). He was absolutely fine, enjoying the new job although it's still only three days a week, and doing well. It was good to have the time to chat. It's going to take some time for the number of new cases daily to drop to a level where the government will start to drop restrictions, unfortunately. Hubby - who is a newshound - told me that some people travelling in the far north of the province where there are virtually no cases, were stopped by police and fined because they didn't all live in the same household. I have had no problems travelling back and forth to mom's although I did see more police on the highway the last time I drove up and back. If I were to be stopped, it should be no problem as providing care for a parent is an acceptable reason for travel. Have fun meeting with Toni! Sounds like the club meeting was a wonderful social event. I had to chuckle at the "comments added by the cows and donkey"! emoticon Amazing how quickly the price of something can jump when people start to panic buy! Hope that it sorts itself out soon.

Nell - I so hope that this second infusion makes more of a difference than has been indicated to you even if it doesn't leave you feeling completely well.

Kellie - I hope that the on-call schedule doesn't worsen too much for you. Hard to plan for anything much when there's too much on-call.

Cindy - Hang in there - the weight will re-adjust but I do understand the frustration! It seems to take very little for the scale to jump a lot but forever for it to come back down again! Glad that you and the Littles had fun at the park. And wonderful that you can leave your mom for longer periods of time. I know my sister is nervous about leaving mom on her own for very long - never know what she might decide to do.

Sunny - That sounds like a wonderful getaway! Enjoy!

Donna - OUCH - that gas price! Last price I saw here was about 1.23 a litre and that seemed higher but I know prices in BC are higher. Our area can often be less expensive by a bit than surrounding communities and even the GTA. Could you leave a sandwich or something prepared for your hubby so that he does eat when you're gone for an extended period of time? Or would he forget to eat what you left? Mom was making herself toast and tea for lunch before noon today even though her PSW was coming for lunch (she brings food) just after 12 o'clock!

Lots going on here today for sure! We did get our warmer temperatures finally and it looks like they'll hang around, so I got all the sweaters packed up this afternoon as well as other colder weather clothing and got out the shorts tanks, capris and tee shirts. As I indicated above in a comment, I talked to my son and all was well. I imagine he's just been busy. I talked to my sister tonight to get the latest information on her possible surgery. As I had requested, she called the surgeon's office today and was told that they are taking it day by day but as of today, she was still scheduled to have her knee replacement next Friday. Apparently they are going to allow surgeries to resume next week so I'm wondering if rather than having to reschedule people who are to have procedures next week, they are letting those surgeries go ahead as planned. She has to go for a COVID test on Monday at the hospital drive through testing site which is an hour away so I hope if they decide to cancel her surgery and reschedule it, they let her know before then. I thought I'd be heading up on Friday for my regular visit but at the moment I'll be waiting until next week when hubby will drive me up and I'll be there for a two week visit while my sister has the surgery and begins to recover. At least that's the plan tonight - it might change tomorrow!
It's late so I'd best get myself off to bed!

Wow! I really need to get on here earlier as there is so much going on with everyone. Where to start!!!!

Maree you had to know your hubby would be passing on his experience before long. Good for him and I am sure he felt very proud of being able to share.
My goodness....those deadlifts would probably crumble me. Haha..

Toni and Bess enjoy your get together. Phebess and I met a few years ago and for me it felt like spending time with an old friend. Have you two ever met before?

Bess I am so glad your picnic turned out so well with even the weather cooperating. You can always count on women to bring too much food to a potluck.
I too agree with being in a forest as soothing. It just soothes your spirit.
Gas is expensive here too....probably in the neighbour of $6.00 a gallon.....we pay by the litre and today at .Costco I paid $1.48. A electric vehicle is sounding pretty tempting.

Cindy I did have a cleaner for some of the time when I was working. It was so lovely to come home to a clean house knowing I would not have to spend time doing it on the weekend. Now it is just me.
Enjoy your time outdoors today. Sometimes it is just too nice to be indoors. We had rain this morning but that is ok as the sun will be back for the rest of the week.
You know you will get rid of those few pounds before long so don’t fret too much about it. You are paying attention which is important.
Toni I would love to raid your asparagus bed. I know what I buy in the store does not even come close to picking it fresh. Enjoy!

NancyAnne i hope all goes well with your visit to your Moms. I know she will feel so much better having your support.

Nell good to hear you have another infusion coming up but terrible news for how long before you feel better. Let’s hope the time goes quickly for you.

Kellie lots of changes with your job right now. I hope it works out well for you and makes your days a little easier to manage.

I enjoyed my golf yesterday but I know my mind was elsewhere. I certainly did not play very well but it was good to be out. Hubby was fine but he didn’t eat anything while I was gone which in itself is a worry. I am going too play as long as possible because it is good for me. My friend knows what is going on and is extremely supportive.

Time to prepare lunch so better scoot. Enjoy the rest of your day everyone....

Sunny- The money transferred without a hitch and we are good to go. My husband breathed a sigh of relief.

I’m down with the Zoom call idea! And when my life slows down I’d be happy to meet any of you who are out the Indiana way!

Donna- Did you have fun golfing yesterday? Did hubby make it through unscathed?

Sunny- You make me wish for flowers! Eventually they’ll happen- Just not a priority with everything else going on right now. I always made it a point to get out early and do garden work when we lived in Texas. It got unbearable as the day went on.
Say “Hi” to my daughter in SD. She’s stationed at Miramar.

Sue- That is a LOT of new cases every day! How big is the population in your area?
I hope you found out all is well with your son. We never stop worrying about or instinctively mothering, even when they are adults, do we?

Phebe- The train! That’s one form of transportation I’ve never used. Have you? It will be fun to hear how you liked it.
Good to know about the oximeter. Thank you! I’ll wait until I’m there to order- Mom is likely to get, forget I told her it’s coming and why, and donate it before I even arrive.
Trust your family with what you should wear- It sounds like a stunning ensemble!
And oversized jackets, especially belted, are on-trend right now. You were smart to keep them!

Maree- I can identify with 4A-Healthy-BMI’s weight gain. It is, in my opinion, more difficult to maintain than it is to lose. (And very easy to gain!)

Bess- I am flying to Mom next Tuesday, the 18th. I am NOT looking forward to gas prices in California! And Mom’s conference call with the surgeon is tomorrow. My sister is going to be a part of that, thank goodness!
I’m so glad your picnic/ceremony went well! Had to laugh at the input of the local livestock.

Nell- I’m glad you are getting the treatment, but sorry you have to wait 4 weeks to feel relief.

Kellie- “Underwhelm yourself”- Love it! I hate procrastination- People get irritated with me for taking care of stuff so quickly. I just want it off my mind.

Toni- My husband has all kinds of crazy dreams he shares with me (one of my favs is when he was riding a motorcycle in the civil war). I rarely remember mine, and those I do I usually wish I didn’t.

Cindy- The process with us getting a new build sounds fast because the house was already roughed-in when we started on it. We were able to tweak the plans a bit, but with the basement poured, windows already in, and rooms studded, the biggest part of the job was done. We started at the beginning of January and here about 4 months later we closed (although we moved in almost a month ago). The builder was the best part of the whole process- He’s really been a joy to work with.
I’ll bet you weight is back down tomorrow, as long as you’re doing the right things. More than likely your splurge was high in carbs, which can carry up to 3 times their weight in water. It just might be taking your body a few days to release that water.

Today is a rest day from exercise, although I did go for a walk. I’m making a high-hydration loaf of sourdough with spelt flour. I’ve never used it before. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

And we are getting BJ for the afternoon/dinner. It’s so convenient living literally 4 minutes away from his day program! We’re seeing so much more of him. emoticon

Have a blessed hump day, everyone!

Thank you for the info, Bess - I hadn't heard that there were demands attached to releasing the files.

Truly scary - we've been hearing for a while that Russia was looking into ways to freeze the US electric grid. I guess they figured out how to do that with our gas supply!

Phebess, actually it's a ransom attack. They steal and freeze a company's computer files and won't release them till a ransom is paid. So it's not just a massive prank. It's business kidnapping. I've heard of small individual businesses this has happened to, though nobody I am personally acquainted with - more like friends of friends, all of whom are in small businesses and don't have very robust security on their systems. It's why I don't like to keep my stuff "in the cloud". I'm too lazy, too poor to put up adequate security. But it is a part of the price you pay for goods from the big guys who can't take a risk. And even when they can't - they are still vulnerable. There's always another crook out there.

Maree, you must have the strongest back with all those dead lifts!!!

Toni, I sent you a Sparkmail with an outline of what I pack - whether it's a 2 week trip or a 10 month trip. It helps to know what kinds of things you'll be doing on your trip - but I like basic clothes that can layer, and can be dressed up if needed. (Solid black is my go-to for that.) Fresh asparagus, especially when still at that tender baby size, is SO wonderful!!!

Bess, packing cubes compress clothes so it helps get more into a suitcase, too. And this is so crazy with these gas line pirates - they aren't even stealing anything for themselves, but more like establishing a virtual blockade!!!

Nell, I hope this infusion helps earlier than 4 weeks!!!

Kellie, does being on the application team mean you'll be at various user facilities more frequently? And doing a lot of user training or trouble-shooting? Or does it mean you'll be working on the actual software itself? It does sound like a more interesting side of your job, rather than dealing with the hardware and mechanical side of things.

Cindy, I love the mental image of your daughter cleaning in a tutu and fairy wings! I hope things improve so your heart stops worrying! (And I personally always look for a park with public restrooms! I've hit that age!)

Sunny, have a fabulous ocean and beach day!!!

Gill, I know what you mean about some meals (or even certain foods) causing a weight gain - SO frustrating!!!

Just working on packing, helping DH pack, and I'm trying to work on shipping the car so we can take the train. I really don't want DH driving across the country, and I really don't want to do all 3000 or so miles myself. He said if I can organize it all, I can do it. So, that's my job for today.

CINDY - my weight can go up 3-4lbs after just one off-plan kind of meal - and it takes about 3 days back on-plan to get it off again. It is frightening how quickly that scale can go up!

Good Wednesday morning!

Wow, Toni and Bess having a get-together in person! How wonderful! Someday I'd like to take a traveling adventure and go from place to place to visit each of you. How fun would that be?! Quite a long trip, including both sides of the country, both sides of Canada, and a stop in England, wow! Anyway, I hope you ladies have a very special time together, and that your whole trip is lots of fun, Toni.

Nancyanne, we are all so happy for you, and the closing of your house! This whole process of deciding to move, and to build, and then actually DOING it has all happened in this last year! It seems like it all went so fast, although I guess parts of it don't seem so fast to you.

Donna, I sure hope you enjoyed your golf, and I know what you mean about needing to get away, but worrying about leaving your hubby home alone for several hours. I went through that with my dad, and there was a time when I couldn't even leave for 10 minutes without him calling me and needing my assistance. That was stressful! I'm thankful my mom is now able to be left alone for more than an hour, and I can spend a little time in a park or something, along with the errands of the day. Yesterday I took the Littles to play in the new sand box at one of the parks in town----first time we'd seen the sandbox, it's new this year. They had so much fun, and would've loved to stay longer, but my bladder said no. So we might go back there again today.

Thinking about house cleaners, I have had help with that at two different times in my life, and it WAS pretty wonderful. The year I was recuperating from brain surgery I hired my DD to come clean house for me once a week. She didn't particularly like cleaning, but needed the extra cash, and made it more fun by wearing fairy wings and a tutu while cleaning. (She was in college at the time.) The other time was when I was working at the elementary school and was asked to take on a few more hours, helping in the room with the physically/mentally disabled kids. I decided I could do that, and with part of the extra income I could hire a cleaner (a coworker at the school who cleaned houses on the side.) It was, indeed, lovely to come home to a clean and shining house. I fear I don't even get around to mopping very often, much less cleaning baseboards or mini-blinds! I do get the vacuum out almost daily, though, and make the kids pick up their stuff before they leave each day (except for the blanket fort on the stairs...)

My heart is pretty heavy right now, plus I'm frustrated that I'm still up on my weight after only ONE cheat meal 3 days ago, so I'm very thankful at least for the beauteous weather. It's hard to be completely sad when it's 72º and sunshiny, with gorgeous flowers everywhere. Like I said earlier, I think I'll take the Littles back to the park today.

Hope you all enjoy your day! I'm thinking about each of you, even if I didn't mention everyone by name.

Cindy

Back again, feeling a teensy more caught up.

Nell, that IS a tough piece of information. What an ordeal you are struggling though. I feel for you.

Bess, that picnic yesterday really truly sounds divine. I know the weather was on your side too, but seriously, is there a better season in VA than springtime? I am intrigued by the idea of being in the woods without a focus, but just to be there. I’ve never thought about it that way but it is easy to remember moments like that being important. When I was a young college student and sad I loved to walk in rain. It sounds pitiful, but I think it was about what you are talking about. I did not come back sadder!

Sunny, I know what you mean by how going elsewhere to exercise can take a chunk out of a day I want more focus in. It’s often a struggle for me too.

Phebe, I feel like I am taking a week to pack for our trip on Saturday! It’s clearly because I have way too many options. I want to get down to a travel ‘capsule’ like you seem to have. I guess the mom organizing the bar/bat mitzvah wants to get back to pre-covid clothing. I guess it’s helpful knowing what is expected. In general, I wonder what post covid clothing will be like. Some of my dress clothes look pretty ‘stiff’ right now.

NancyAnne, your mom sounds strong like you. I bet she will be so glad to see you though.

Sue, I like your decision to call your son. Easy for the doldrums to set in living alone during so many restrictions.

Gill, I love how you describe your active day. I love a day that has a combo of things, not just one kind of workout.

Donna, how was golf and did you DH do okay? Love the thought of you lost in your ‘swing’ and in a pretty place. Golf courses are such beautiful places to ‘lose’ yourself in—to the space and the game. And Bess and I would love having you join us—without hanging out on the wall, lol.

Cindy, that house ‘dirt’ will wait. I know you know this because of the choices you make, but time you put in with the Littles is the best use of it!

Time to meet up with my DH who just woke up from a wild dream. Not bad, but elaborate. Will probably make for some good laughs.

Toni

Congrats Nancy!!! Celebration time!

How frustrating Nell! At least you know you are heading for relief. I wish I could speed up time.

Thanks Sue. yep, gotta reign in this scale creep before it gets out of control!

So excited about Bess and Toni meeting up. I look forward to pictures! A zoom call would be awesome one day!!

Phebess, I love your tatoo. I hope the rabbi appreciates your wonderful uniqueness!

Things are changing at work again. The interim manager has been great since my manager was fired but we are too much! So management is splitting us up, some of us will be application support and some will be technical (servers and such). I was happy to land on the application support side. I foresee a worse on-call schedule but I'll be patient and see how they work out these details.

I'm focusing on small tasks today. I watched a video work provided recently about procrastination. She recommends "underwhelming yourself", which I know is another way of saying take a small steps towards accomplishments but the idea of underwhemling yourself clicked with me on low energy days.

emoticon

Time for yoaga and dancing and get logged into work.

Happy Hump day!

NancyAnne, Congrats! All that worry and angst, and it's now behind you! You are free to move on! emoticon

I have my second Entyvio infusion this morning. I'm told I won't start feeling better until the next one in 4 weeks, discouraging to say the least.

Maree - Hooray for your DH and his new job. I bet he was tickled to be able to show some old dogs a new trick. And how wonderful it would be to have the option of some work from home, some in the office. It is going to be interesting to watch how commercial real estate morphs over the next few years. I bet many businesses will move into smaller quarters, expect employees to share physical spaces and then let them work from home part of the time. I did notice 4AHealthyBMI is back and I've actually joined her get back to goal challenge, since I'm still not at goal. And I wish you could be with Toni and me tomorrow, too and I'm certainly up for a zoom meet-up.

Phebess - I finally looked up packing cubes - because I had an idea of what they might be, but didn't actually know. We don't travel enough to need them but I am an organized packer anyway. I'm not at all surprised that your packing took all day though. How wonderful to have two family events to attend so close together. I bet nobody complains about your tattoo.

Nancyanne - whoop whoop whoopeee! Congratulations. And big hugs too, for you and your mom. How soon can you get out there?

Sue - I hope you get those warmer temperatures today and I think you're wise to call your son. Even if everything is just fine, he'll be glad to hear your voice. And goodness I hope your government starts lifting restrictions soon. Are police arresting people who, say, go visit their children? Stopping cars to check why they're on the road?

Gill - the theme for our last month's club meeting was Forest Bathing - Shinrin-yoku. It's a state of just being out among trees. Not hustling or seeking or trying to cover miles - but just being. I had never heard of it but once I did I remembered a time when I was deeply upset and DH took me out to the Enchanted Forest - at the time, recently cut over and a tangle of young trees. We just went. and stopped. And I could feel the peace and healing effect wash over me. I can't think of a better theme for mental health week - in any country!

Sunny - water aerobics is such a great workout and it feels so much like play. I'm glad you at least have a pool of your own so you can do the moves even if you don't have friends with you.

Donna - Yay for the golf. and how did your DH do while you were gone. Would he answer the phone if it rang? Maybe you could have your kids or a neighbor give him a call while you're gone on these golf days. And you know that Toni and I would love to have you with us.

Cindy - may you one day have a cleaner come. We had one for a few years and it was so nice to come home from work and find the house dusted, vacuumed and mopped - but the truth is - I kinda like to do that work too. So - I'll wait till I can't do it before I hire someone now. Except maybe to do a spring clean of the porch. Might hire someone this year. We'll have to see.

As for the picnic/ceremony - it was wonderful. 30 people gathered and the president of the district level of the GFWC came and had a blast. It was on the gorgeous front lawn of a 1740 farm house the Haile family has lived in at least since the early 1820s. I used my small personal speaker which made it easy for everyone to hear, even as the cows lowed their opinions in the field next door. Henry the donkey had a few words to say too, so we had lots of diverse opinions. Of course, everyone brought too much food but they took it all home with them to feed their families and with many hands, clean-up was a breeze and it left my cousin with a house completely decorated with beautiful flower arrangements. There were 2 guests, one of whom might join us in the fall - which would be a bonus. But most of all we just enjoyed ourselves in the sunshine and companionship of an afternoon on the lawn in the beautiful Virginia countryside.

I hadn't heard a thing about the pipeline hijack on Monday. But DH had to go to Norfolk yesterday and about 7:30 he called me and said he was in a line of a dozen cars just off the big interstate and had no idea when he'd be home - and he told me about the hijack. Since there was a chance he wouldn't be able to get gas and would run out someplace between here and there - I drove up to our local store and topped off my tank. Gas in my little rural town 45 miles from any city went from 2.69 in the morning to 2.96 by 7 oclock and now it's in the $4 range at the one or two places there still is any gas. DH did get home about 9:30, though.

Modern brigands. A crazy world. What next?

Good morning!

Bess and I are meeting up tomorrow, not today. My change in routine this week led me to mix up just what day it is/was/will be, lol. I’m making a new resolve to make my calendar an early stop—maybe close to the coffee pot! Which of course i NEVER forget or misplace.

Wow, a zoom call would be something. I could see that as a feature of Spark. Interesting thought, Maree. I like writing as we do though, so have to think about it.

I’m going to do a weeding project today in my asparagus bed. We are so enjoying our almost daily consumption and sharing some as well. The product is nothing like we buy in the stores. I may well be spoiled for that now. Raw they are even delicious.

NancyAnne, glad for that closing. Relief!

Take care everyone. Hope to check in again later when I get a chance to read all the posts. Toni

Good morning! Hump day!

Congratulations Nancy Anne! One major challenge/stressor down. [I think I heard a sigh of relief across the miles! LOL!] I know your mom will appreciate you being there, especially for the consult with the doctor where different options might be presented and require decisions that you can help her evaluate.

Yes, DH really likes his new job so far. He introduced them to one of his new tools that saves a lot of time.

Looking forward to hearing about your meet-up, Toni and Bess. Wish I could be there, too. Do you think we could organize a Zoom call one of these days? I'd be game. Different time zones might be a challenge...

Did you all notice that one of the former leaders of the Maintaining team is back after several years, and unfortunately, a significant weight re-gain. 4A-Healthy-BMI. I remember when I first discovered this team, how instrumental she was in my education about the differences between losing weight and maintaining weight loss, the sheer vigilance that will be required. She created many of the resources available in the Big Page of links, in which I immersed myself those first weeks. I wish her well, as we never give up. Right?

I was really surprised at how energized I was working at the office yesterday. Only one other person was there, and it was a particularly productive day, but it was great. I go in again today. Come June 14, I will have the option to do either, or both. And probably settle on a combination.

Okay better scoot. Deadlifts today at crossfit (4 sets of 6 reps at 60-70% of the 1 rep max we established last week).

Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!!
