Sue, we wondered if any the the boats from the US side went out to the Canadian falls for better viewing. We realize we won't be able to see both sides, unless we do a boat or helicopter. (Neither of us really like helicopters.)

Phebess - Even "not having a plan" requires a bit of a plan. Not having set dates to arrive or leave, unless there is a specific reason, does give you the freedom to explore as one desires - to the extent that one can explore. Right now, we have travel restrictions going into place in some provinces which would make your kind of travel difficult. It you make it to Niagara Falls, you'll have to admire the Canadian falls from your side of the border.

Maree - We could have the "white rain" both tomorrow and Wednesday and the temperature is going to feel right chilly! Going to be a bit of a shock after the last couple of days that have been so pleasant but the rain has already arrived here. The irony is that hubby has an appointment to have our winter tires taken off the vehicle on Wednesday morning when it could well be snowing! emoticon Sounds like you had a wonderful day of hiking.

Bess - Actually my daughter said that she does get paid for that off time which is often just a couple of hours. Yesterday she drove to her division in the morning and then went home to eat but since she was driving a downtown route in the afternoon and doesn't feel comfortable driving home from downtown and also finding parking, she was taking transit to where she was to start her afternoon route. Unfortunately that takes about an hour so she was spending some of that 3 hour break travelling. She doesn't seem to mind - I guess there are worse shifts and she is doing daytime driving for the most part. Mowing the lawn was not something my father ever wanted his daughters to do - partly because of the slope on this property in places - not sure he thought we could handle it. We don't have much of a lawn either because hubby does keep tossing different things down so it's a bit of a hodge podge. He decided a couple of years ago that he'd done enough lawn mowing and hired someone to come to cut the grass. I don't know if they do other lawn care - hubby's just happy he's not cutting grass any more. It is good exercise and wonderful when you enjoy doing it!

Cindy - emoticon on the weight loss!

Nell - I do hope that the meds kick in sooner rather than later and you can start to feel better!

Kellie - Always feels fresher to have those carpets cleaned! And emoticon for being almost at the end of your two courses. You won't know what to do with all of your spare time! emoticon

Kate - Glad that the cookies are done - now to choose one!

Nancy Anne - it's great to know that you can do the closing even if you aren't there and I'm sure you'll be relieved - and your sister too - to be with your mom after her surgery while she recovers. And it seems that after much upheaval and stress, everything with the house is coming together nicely. That is so good to hear. And if you can get some help with the unpacking and some meals as well, that will certainly ease your load.

Donna - I hope the power washing goes well for you. It sure can clean things up in a hurry!

Julie - That looks like a lovely spot!

Last full day at mom's today. She was up way before me but I overslept a bit. She'd managed to have her bowl of cereal and make a cup of instant coffee by the time I got up. She always thinks her PSW is coming to shower her but that's not until tomorrow so when she realized that, she got dressed. She did sleep a lot this morning in her chair. My workout got postponed to the afternoon after I fed mom the last of her meals from last week. I was going to do pork chops and rice in the oven tonight, but I hadn't taken them out of the freezer and with mom eating a bigger meal at lunch, she wanted a lighter supper, so I just had to figure out what to feed me. Power went out about mid afternoon for a couple of hours so it's just as well I wasn't trying to cook an oven dinner. When the power goes out here, one never knows how long it will be out! A local drive in was open so I picked up food for my sister. BIL and me for dinner while mom was content with some soup. She seemed to be tired again today and was ready to go to bed before 8 o'clock but I got her to stay up until about 9:30. That way, she shouldn't be getting up in the middle of the night, thinking it's time to start her day! I think I'm starting to fade away here too.

Maree, are there only morels in your area? I've never gone mushroom hunting, it sounds like fun!

Bess, fortunately no white rain, LOL! And mowing your yard sounds like fun exercise!

Cindy, congrats on your new low weight!

Oh Nell, I wish you were feeling better already, but I guess it just takes time. You're in my prayers as well.

Kellie, I actually know that movie reference, LOL! (I rarely do!) Do you think the super clean carpets will help with any allergies? And if you have Business Law questions, I can always ask DH for you!

Kate, is this Cookie-Con? And do you get to go in person this year?

NancyAnne, it sounds like things are coming together with all the legal stuff, but yikes, I never knew buying a home was SO involved!!! Hope you get some unpacking helpers!!!

Donna, do you find power washing to be fun? I helped with power washing the stucco coating down to the concrete blocks at school for our murals, and it was hard work but fun - there's that feeling of power blasting that force of water on anything!

Sunny, I'll go look at your page - I loved the desert flowers in Tucson the year we were there!

Shaw, that looks like a beautiful place for hiking around!

Had a long chat last night with one of the men who were Peace Corps Volunteers with me my first year in Liberia - we were all in the same little town, so we became good friends. We're all married and in different parts of the US, but there's a bond one develops working together in, well, adverse circumstances I guess. The three of us protected the director of our school during student unrest at our campus (college level, and it was a money issue) - so we started calling ourselves The Mod Squad, LOL!

Then had a Zoom call with my sister today, not quite as much fun as my old buddy but still nice to catch up.

DH and I are looking at maps, talking about when to leave, the route to take northward, and then how to get to western Washington after the two family events. Neither of us wants to plan too far in advance - our "travel plan" has always been "there is no plan." We'll see what we end up with - thus far we have the BIL/SIL for about a week in New Jersey, then a few days in Swathmore, PA for the Bar Mitzvah. Meet up with my "adopted daughter" from Liberia. Several days in Hershey, PA. Then a few days in Lancaster for the Bat Mitzvah. And, well, maybe onward to Niagara Falls just because.

NancyAnne you have so much going on I would have trouble keeping it all organized. Enjoy the visit with your daughter a d another pair of hands is most welcome I am sure.
I hope the closing goes smoothly

Busy day for me today with lots of laundry, a long morning walk and power washing outside. I sure miss the help I use to have. Now I will take a few minutes to say hello and hydrate with a nice cool glass of water.

Nell I am so sorry you feel so wretched. Thank goodness you are getting help and please stay there until yiu are better able to cope with all you have going at home. Is it time to think about more help for you on a regular basis?

No time to comment but I have read all the newsy posts. Love keeping up with everyone.

Just a quick update for those who have been following our saga-

1. I talked to my sister and we have a tentative plan for me flying out to California for a few weeks whenever Mom goes home after surgery. This will give Betsie a break. We still don't know exactly when Mom's surgery is, so the timing is still in question. But at least we have a loose plan.
2. The appraiser came today! Glory be and hallelujah! Now the loan can get rolling.
3. Radon-tester-thingy's will be dropped off on Wednesday and the home inspection done on Friday. They just need the results of that when the closing actually happens. While this is a new build, we still wanted a full inspection. Just seems the smart thing to do.
4. Our realtor is having a Power of Attorney for the closing drawn up so Sam can sign for me, in case I need to get to California before that happens.
5. The builder had two workers today come and put bullnose edging on the subway tile backsplash in the kitchen, and transition pieces where the LVT hits the concrete in the basement (both looked unfinished). So the last of the little jobs in the house are done. One less thing on my mind!
6. I emailed our church secretary and asked for prayer for everything. I expressed to her privately that I am getting very overwhelmed and could use prayer for grace. She responded and asked if they could come and help with unpacking and bring in some meals. I said yes to both, but that we live outside of town and I understand if it's not practical. So I might be getting some help. Hurrah!
7. The kitchen is unpacked and I was able to run to the store this morning and purchase things we've been limping along without- It's a lot easier to function in the home now.

Glad to catch up with everyone!

And now I'm off to see if I can't hunt down the guest room linens- Alex is coming through and wants to spend the night tomorrow night. She said she can help with unpacking and I told her I might set her to work in the guest room. But I at least want the bed made in there in case she gets in too late to help.

Have a blessed day!

Nell thank you for checking in. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

Not much time today. I finished my cookie and version 4 and 5 are in the freezer and I’ll pick later. I might take both to convention and touch them both up and them pick. I’ve been showing it to friends and one cookie is being picked 2 to 1.

Have to run o make spin. Take care!

Mornin all! Happy anniversary Bess! Big Hugs Nell!

I had a productive weekend. Watched an Oscars Preview virtual show then watched Nomadland Friday night. Had the carpets scrubbed Saturday, then watched Sound of Metal before digging into weekend homework. Both good films!

Nice have two years worth of dust and must scrubbed out of the rugs! the house smells so fresh.

I spent all day and evening yesterday on homework, took a walk break and a dance workout break to keep focused.

Today is the last week of these two classes. Can't wait to do a happy dance and go for a massage on Sunday.

I look forward to being more connected with everyone next week when I drop down to one class. Business Law I. Maybe I'll enroll in Harvard Law. "what, like it's hard?!" movie reference there.

Big hugs to all that need them!

Good Monday morning.

Maree, I think it's so lovely that you get to do all those long hikes with your DH. I would not care to hunt, but the hiking would be great. My own DH has too much arthritis to want to go on long hikes anymore. But he did go with me on a nice 20 minute walk last evening. He keeps moving, to keep being able to move, so I'm thankful for that.

Bess, good for you, planning for your 50th already! Let's hope you can have a really big, fun bash! And I love the sound of your garden "rooms" with grassy floors that you have to mow. I also love to mow, although I am not doing it this year, with the Littles and mama to care for. DH being retired, and having a riding mower (NOT what I use when I mow!), he's been taking care of it. But when I DO mow, I always feels a little embarrassed and hoping the neighbors aren't watching, because I don't mow in those neat, straight lines. I kind of look more like I'm vacuuming, LOL.

I, too, am praying for Nell, and really glad you're in the hospital, hopefully with competent doctors and nurses caring for you!! Down to 100 pounds!! I guess that is one of the (few) drawbacks to getting slender: Not much excess to live off of in case of emergencies.

I am at a brand new low weight today, and very excited about it! Don't think I've weighed this since sometime in Jr. High. Wish I could've done it sooner, before my skin got all old and stretched out, but hey, better late than never.

Big hellos to all the rest of the team!! Got to go get ready for this day before it gets the jump on me!

Cindy

Maree - what an interesting DH you have. I love a man who is knowledgeable about nature. I am sure it was my own DH's familiarity and knowledge of the outdoors that cemented the attraction for me. And yes. we really did have the sweetest anniversary. the big 50 is coming up and I'm already laying plans for a great big blow out celebration.

Phebess - well - thanks for the info about the IRS. Nice to know I'm not late after all. Hope you get some nicer weather. At least you won't be getting Maree's white rain.

Sue - how nice that your daughter could catch up with everyone but it's also too bad she has such a big chunk in the middle of her day when she isn't working. Is her overall day still 8 hours or is it more like 2 part time jobs? Of course, a big chunk of time in the middle of the day means she can get things done during business hours. Lots of ways of looking at a schedule.

Sunny - thanks - we are lucky there are so many rural backroads where I live. We can meander forever, though we always have to get on fast roads to get home. How wonderful that your big move to AZ worked out the way you'd hoped, getting to spend time with family and watch that grandson grow up. Good luck reining in the garden addict and have fun with the sewing machine.

Donna - blessings on you too for peaceful days with just the right number of chores. What did you decide to do about the powerwashing?

Cindy - isn't it delicious when you can get outdoors on a Sunday? I hope your mother enjoyed the outing too.

Nell - Here's hoping you are already feeling better. Sending you lots of white light healing prayers

Nancyanne - yippee that there is a way to close on the house remotely. You need to be with your mother. It's tough that so many things came to a head at once, but you only have one mother. You have the rest of your life to unpack. Sending you patience prayers and humor.

Toni - how was your day of leisure? There was a nip in the air around here so that when the clouds piled up it got chilly - but mostly we had great outdoor weather.

Yoo Hoos to everyone else on the team. I hope your days are unfolding in peaceful joy.

We have never had much of a lawn. When I gardened I would sometimes be able to have pretty grass for a few months in the springtime but something always killed it before summer was over. For years I would nudge DH to hire a lawn care company but he dragged his feet and I never felt like pushing too hard till I retired and the huge bare dirt patches drove me nuts. Last Sept. we finally hired a company and for the first time we really have a lawn. Not a velvet green thing but at least 50 times better than anything we've ever had. Which means, this time of year, weekly cutting - a chore I love. And loved yesterday, getting in 3 miles as I mowed all the nooks and crannies that make the place interesting (to me). No rectangle for this gal - I have outdoor rooms. Which is why DH hates the grass cutting job, which will become his once the summer doldrums keep him landbound and complaining about No Wind.

Today I get the last of my Check Up Doctor Visits - a bone density test to see how much, if any, I have shrunk this year.

Good morning!

Yesterday was too busy for me to stop back. So I figured "a picture is worth a thousand words" and was able to post that as we stood in complete silence, listening to woods wake up, and in particular, for turkeys gobbling (success!). Today is opening day for turkey season and DH is sorry to miss it as he has school today, his last week of this semester. He will speak with someone about a summer job this afternoon and a union rep about opportunities for a newbie in the industry. Lots of changes coming here.

Sunny, I enjoy hearing about your landscaping adventures as we are watching our new landscaping bloom and grow, too. And like you, Sue, we have snow and low of 28° in our forecast for Tuesday. That should be winter's last gasp, though.

Nell, hope you are settled into a hospital room receiving the medicine and care to make you better.

After "listening", we moved to another area and hiked about 6 miles, finding 96 morel mushrooms. DH found the majority of them but taught me how to train my eyes and was proud of my success! We sautéed several and had them in omelets back at the houseboat. Came home and had our Red Letter Challenge Bible study, then grilled burgers with sautéed mushrooms. A wonderful day!

What a wonderful wedding anniversary celebration, Bess! Congratulations!

Time to dress for crossfit class! Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!
