Bess, happy anniversary!!!!

Nell, I'm so happy you've lined up your DH's son to stay with him, so you can stay in the hospital and get the treatment you need!!! I hope this turns things around for you!!!

NancyAnne, I hope your builder tells his SIL how out of line and unprofessional she was!

Sunny, your description of your husband needing a plant intervention is just funny!!! I guess he really likes gardening.

Donna, how nice that your son and DIL now have a house in Vancouver! Sounds lovely!

And Cindy, congratulations to your son and his new fiancťe!

Sue, that sounds kind of scary with all those places shut down - it always makes me feel more worried about going out to do anything, you know? I hope the vaccines help reduce the virus cases soon!

Helped DH with his taxes (basically I did them for him, but explained what I was doing as I went through the forms). Helped him with something else, at this point I don't even remember what that was. It was that kind of a day - trying to get out and not get rained on, and helping him with things that he's having trouble accomplishing. I'm guessing next year I'll just go ahead and do the taxes without his input.

Phebess - Looking forward to hearing more about the manatees. Glad that you're home again safely.

Maree - Good to have the rain gear so you can stay dry should you be out hiking.

Bess - emoticon I've had a few trips up and down the stairs today - most of them brief but my sister and I did have a good chance to catch up yesterday and we speak regularly. Mom's been pretty good aside from telling me just before dinner that her doctor had been here and wanted her to go to the hospital for bed rest. Of course no doctor was here and mom certainly does not need to be going to a hospital for bed rest. That is just not "a thing" any more. I do prefer the "white rain" rather than the "s" word - it is a four letter word after all!

Toni - I'm pretty sure that Donna has had her first shot. My hubby and I have appointments for the 28th of this month. However, because they want to get first vaccine doses into as many people as possible, our second doses are not until August 18th. It's wonderful that in some places people can start to get together more again and enjoy each other's company. It's going to be a while before we get to that point - I'm guessing another 5-6 months - maybe.

Nell - You do need to stay in hospital and you need to stay there as long as it takes. If you don't look after you, you won't be able to look after your hubby at all and someone else will have to do it full time instead of for a short time.

Nancy Anne - So sorry to hear that your mom is not doing well. I can't imagine that they would delay surgery for too long when it's serious. Nice that your mom is taking some of that burden off of her family. My parents pre-planned their funerals years ago a few years before dad passed and he's been gone 17 and a half years. Only thing is, much of what mom has planned and paid for may not be possible if she passes while we're still dealing with COVID and at almost 100 years old, we know that, in spite of having general good health, she could pass at any time. Glad that the builder was just as upset as you were at the realtor showing the property as a potential purchase to others. Here's hoping that rest of the time goes smoothly until you are finally able to close and there is no more drama.

Sunny - My sister and I are both pleased that so far the surgery is a "go" and we sure hope it stays that way. Maybe further restrictions being imposed will help to drop the number of cases, especially those needed hospitalization, so they won't have to ship patients further north. Sounds like your hubby really is a plant lover who has a hard time controlling himself when it comes to gardening. If he can look after it all - fine - if not, then I hope that you are able to keep the gardens and potted plants to reasonable numbers.

Donna - You pretty much covered it all as far as shut downs go. Outdoor basketball courts and I think maybe playgrounds are shut down as well as any unnecessary construction. One of the scariest measures is the special powers that OPP have been given (and I think Toronto police too) to stop people at random to ask why they are out and where they are going. There is a concern that this could lead to some racial profiling - especially in the city. That makes my concerned for my SIL who is from St Lucia but then if all unnecessary construction is to shut down, I suspect that having your house painted is also something that will be considered unnecessary so he probably won't be working which means he won't be out much. My sister was a bit concerned about my travelling back and forth but providing care for a parent is entirely acceptable so I'm sure I'd have no problem. Churches will be limited to 10 people only which pretty much means for churches of any size that they will return to online services exclusively but they can carry on for this Sunday. I hope that you were able to enjoy your sunny day. We did eventually see the sun and some seasonal temperatures but I just didn't get out today. Congrats to your son on the purchase of a home. Our daughter and SIL would like to purchase a house sometime soon but prices even out of the GTA and as far north as our community are being driven up by people who want to acquire some space and get out of city condos or apartments. The housing market right now is CRAZY! KUDOs to you for doing what you could to find the owner. How wonderful that you connected the way that you did! emoticon

Cindy - emoticon to your son and his fiancee on the engagement. I'd be more than happy to hear that our son and current GF were engaged but being unemployed for a year (his GF was unemployed too and now working on a short term contract) makes that difficult at the moment if they wanted to take that step. Enjoy your lovely weather as long as it lasts1

Sally - That just sounds so "normal" but unfortunately for some of us, that kind of normal is still some distance away.

Today has been relatively quiet. We began with watching the funeral service of Prince Phillip - strong connection between Canada and the crown so most major stations had coverage and mom wanted to watch. She kind of laughed when I told her Phillip was her contemporary - both born in the same year but he was a couple of months older than mom is. I did manage a little workout this afternoon and eventually set to work making some spaghetti for dinner because that was what mom said she wanted when I gave her a choice of two things this morning. When she went to get ready for bed a while ago, she said that she felt sick and then had to use her puffer, She decided to lie down so it there on top of her bed fast asleep now. I should go check on her again and check with my sister. Mom might be feeling some effects from her vaccination that other day or she might just be feeling overly tired from it. We'll see how it goes.

Had a nice walk this morning. I always end my walk at a bench overlooking the valley and small farm. When I went to sit down there was a phone wallet with all the persons credit cards. Oh boy, now what do I do. I looked through it to see if I could find a phone number but no such luck. I didnít want to leave it there so I brought it home and tried to find him on the internet. No such luck there either. I decided I would take it to his home after we had lunch and if he was not there I would turn it into the police. So if you can believe this when we were leaving the complex I saw this guy that looked like the picture on his drivers license. It was him! Unbelievable. Anyway he had just moved in here yesterday amd had taken his dog for a walk then left his wallet. One minute sooner or later we would have been on our way and going to the place where he no longer lives. As you can imagine he was very relieved to get it back.
Thatís my excitement for the day.....

Good Saturday morning! I wasn't sure I'd make it while it is still morning, as I chose to sleep till mom called me at 6:30 and so lost my early morning computer time. Now it's actually time for me to start preparing lunch, so I'll be quick.

Bess, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! 47 years! Our 41st will be this July.

Which reminds me, I got a call from my DS this morning, and he and his girlfriend got engaged yesterday!! We really like her a lot, so we are very happy about this. Yay!

The weather here is just so perfect today and the past couple of days, it's almost indescribable. I really have to go outside and do a little weeding or something today. Yesterday the Littles and I packed a blanket and picnic and they added a lot of toys, and we walked to the neighbor's farm and had a picnic/playtime on a grassy knoll in the shade of their trees. I'm so thankful for these good neighbors, who allow us to come and enjoy their space any time. I had thought we might do it at an actual park, but then discovered that Little#2 had nothing but PJs here, and NO underwear. So I figured we'd better stay close to home, LOL.

I'm thinking of Nell going into the hospital, and of Nancyanne unpacking and feeling concern for your mom, and Kate working on making that winning cookie, and Sue taking care of your mama, and Donna and Nell with worries about caring for your hubbies, and Sunny with the out-of-control plant problem. And rejoicing with all who have had fun experiences and encounters and gatherings with friends and/or family. It really makes my day to read all your posts. Blessings on each of you!

Cindy

Morning everyone on this beautiful Saturday morning. It is suppose to be even nicer today but this too shall end so I will enjoy it while I can

Nell, I am so happy you have someone do,in front look after your Dh so you can go to the hospital. I know I wouldnít care what they are while you are away either. Is your plan still to go tomorrow? I certainly hope you feel better very soon.

NancyAnne my goodness you have way too much going on in your life right now. I know it has to help knowing your sister will be there for your Mom on Monday. I am really sorry to hear she will have to have surgery soon. Hopefully all will go well and your Mom will have many good years.

Sunny, your hubby sounds like a very busy man out in his garden. I would be so thankful if my Dh showed interest in anything now. The changes in him are so hard to believe. Oh well, I just need to be thankful he is still here and happy to read every day. And nap to....haha!
I would love to go to the Botanicy garden with you. I had no idea cacti were so beautiful. I was lucky to have seen them one year when we were in Arizona in April. absolutely stunning.

Bess, Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby. I know you both will make the day special..

Toni how wonderful your life is getting back to normal. Enjoy your dinner with friends tonight.
It is going to be so long for us. Once again Canada has been informed we are being shorted on vaccines that were to be delivered this month. It would take me 15 to across the border and get my second shot. Ontario has pretty much shut down their province once again. No schools, restaurants, playgrounds, golf courses......
I am sure Sue will be able to tell you more as this is her province.

On a good note our son and DIL have bought their first home. It is a condo close to downtown Vancouver and the ocean. It makes my heart best a little quicker at the price but I remember my parents saying the same thing when we purchased our first home. They are very capable of making their own decisions and I have to remind Dh of this. I am thrilled for them.

Maree enjoy your hike today and I have to admit I am jealous of all those models.

Today I will go for my walk then continue my work on our deck. It felt so good to be out there cleaning the winter grime away. Part two will continue today. Hopefully I can borrow my neighbours power washer and be able to finish the job. He has offered several times so I will take him up on it.

Enjoy your day everyone..

NancyAnne it is hard being so far from your mom while this is all happening. I am sure you are feeling distressed and frustrated that isnít more you can do to help out.

Bess we had a Weber charcoal grill for a long time and just loved it. But in California you can grill most every day so when we moved to our second house we bought a propane gas Weber and never looked back. It is not the same but it is so much more convenient and now we have a gas hook up which is even better.

Toni you are getting back to a social life. I am going to take the DGS to school on Tuesday so that the DD and SIL can get their second shot. They are going to Portland in June to see friends and Ohio in July to visit his mom.

Maree I remember camping in the rain and getting out on the trails while it was still wet

Sue I am glad your sisterís surgery is still scheduled. A complicated situation with your mom needing so much care.

Phebess looking forward to pictures

The DH is a wonderful person but needs an intervention when it come to putting in plants. He is like a hoarder who just canít stop acquiring plants for every space in the garden and houseplants for every corner of the house. We had two huge ficus trees in pots in our last house, two big drasinias and three other potted plants. I wonít even describe the over planted yard and the huge number of pots in a small sized beach plot. I enjoyed the plants but had nothing to do taking care of them

In this house the outside is like another room and is integral to the house and lifestyle so I have been involved all the way. We had fierce battles over the number of plants going in, the type of plants and location in the yard during the landscaping process. His arthritis is sometimes painful and he needs more help with the plants, I just want it to be manageable.

This garden is a joint effort so I am out there everyday doing the daily tasks a garden requires and helping him with bigger jobs. I love gardens and know a lot about the plants but I would have fewer in the yard.

Today we are going back to the Desert Botanical Garden since this is prime cactus blooming month and the weather is perfect.

This afternoon we are going to an open garden tour of three gardens sponsored by an Iris society which is his most favorite flower in the world. He has ready added 4 pots to the yard with irises which will probably bloom late summer. My goal is to keep him from trying to cover every possible place in the yard with a pot or a plant.

NancyAnne, Hard as it is to accept a possible death, having your mother make all her own decisions is a blessing. Mom wanted details I never would have thought of, it was good to know I was following her wishes to the letter. The funeral people know all the questions to ask, I sure didn't know the choices that needed to be made. And once she signs and pays, it's good forever, she can still live a long life.

As far a realtors go, they are licensed by a state board, you can write a complaint to them. One complaint won't do much, a bunch and they can pull her license. A bad realtor can ruin all of their reputations.

Thank you, everyone, for being incredulous with me that people were being shown the home weíd just moved into! Additionally, in-between the movers leaving and coming home to people touring our new home, Iíd learned that the pig valve in my momís heart is giving away and sheís going to need a repair or replacement. So I was communicating with mom, who is coming to terms that she could die, and my siblings. We were trying to figure out how we can get mom, who lives in the SF Bay Area, covered with someone at the house to help her after surgery. My brother lives an hour away from her but is a junior-high teacher. My sister is in Phoenix and Iím here in Indiana. I am the oldest and usually the one to fly out and help after medical procedures, but I can go nowhere until weíve closed on this house. The surgery isnít supposed to be for a couple of months, but with her being so short of breath I donít see how they can wait that long.

Mom is going to pick out and pay for a burial plot on Monday. Sheíd informed us of this yesterday. If she dies, she doesnít want to leave us with the burden of making arrangements, which I deeply appreciate. My sister took a last-minute flight out of Phoenix late yesterday afternoon to help her with this. I am so grateful! Betsie seems to have the magic touch with mom, so this is a big blessing for all of us.

Maree- No kidding about the drama that is our lives! Geez Louise! We did indeed sign, and the owner of the building company signed, an early possession form. Valid the 15th, move-in day. I think the listing agent just simply forgot that we were moving in that day and did not inform the realtor who was showing her clients homes built by this company that the house was in contract. The builder, who I believe is her brother-in-law, was appalled. His exact comment was ďThatís not rightĒ. He felt terrible and was going to call her and tell her to knock it off. Heís literally the only person in this whole process of buying/selling we have no complaint about- And usually the builder is the one everyone is the maddest at!

Nell- You are in my prayers! I am very concerned for you.

Everyone else- I HAVE been reading and keeping up with the goings-on in your lives! I just havenít taken time to reply individually with all thatís happening here. Iíll be back to my normal posts as soon as life simmers down even a fraction of a bit!

Please forgive me for being all about me lately!

Have a blessed Saturday!

I am weaker and sicker this morning, I guess I really do need to be in the hospital. I'll need massive prednisone doses by IV to calm the inflammation and stop the bleeding. I have today to change the sheets and do all the laundry so that DH's son won't have to do it like last time. He already told me that all meals will be ordered in, fine with me, he can use DH's credit card. He can stay until Thursday morning, I'd better be home by then.

Good morning!

Whew, as moderately busy as my schedule is I feel like I just had a FULL week. And I embrace Saturday to knock around and do whatever.

We watched Nomadland last night I it is a beautiful movie. There is a sadness to it though but many good people/characters. I think it deserves the awards its up for and it represents. I really donít see or certainly recommend movies very often, but it was beautiful.

Kate! You fell in yoga. What happened?

Maree, good for you for having the clothes to deal with rain. No excuses to Ďget out there!í You are inveterate.

Bess, my DH is having similar results from PT. He tends to think doing the same thing with greater weights is the answer to everything. The simple exercises he is doing have nothing to do with that and Iím relieved he is listening. And of course you are little! I agree with Maree that docs are often relieved to see a person with a healthy lifestyle.

Stay in touch, Nell. Hope you can take your electronics in with you when you go to the hospital.

Cindy, your Ďlittlesí are having such great experiences with you! What fun to see the animals on a walk.

Donna, nice to hear your weather is better and you can get outside more easily. Our temps have cooled to the mid sixties and frankly Iím enjoying this continued breath of spring before summer hits us like a hammer.

Sunny, is the garden work overwhelming? Iím in the process of trying to simplify our city gardens and just booked someone to come help me figure out what to do.

Sue, Iím glad your mom was able to get the shot. Iíve been thinking of you and Donna and how it must be frustrating not to be able to get the vaccine. Any idea of when they will get to you?

Phebe, eager to see your pics. Iíve not seen Manatees live.

Weíve been invited to dinner at friendsí home tonight, another everyone vaccinated group. We are enjoying our Ďseniorí friends most of whom are all Ďjabbed.í Our son and DIL are in line in CO for vaccine too. Colorado has really been good about getting shots out and going. We hope they can get them before we arrive in mid May.

As I said, eager for a Ďspaciousí day...ever feel that way?

Thanks, Maree - I'm really glad I sought treatment. I understand so much more sympathetically how people with arthritis start down the path to immobility. And I didn't want to experiment with this hip pain on my own. Expert advice from someone who really knows how the body works can make all the difference. It had gotten to the point where I was lifting my leg up out of the car or pausing to actually tell my knee to step up over something. Now much of that I can do in a more automatic way. Improvement in less than a week? I'd call that a win. Yippee for all those mushrooms. Enjoy your river weekend no matter what the weather.

Phebess - aren't these big animals amazing? How marvelous you got to see them up close. Sorry you have a rainy weekend but it will just give you more time to enjoy your photos.

Toni - it's so good to hear from you.

Sue - I love the term White Rain. Thankful that we're done with that down here but I'll use it next year. If we have any. It sounds like you are settled in for the weekend at your mom's. I hope you have a bit of time to enjoy your sister too.

Nell - we're all rooting for you to check into that hospital and, if nothing more, get you some nutrition so you can be strong enough to fight your way back to health.

Nancyanne - I'm horrified by that realtor's unprofessional behavior, but doesn't it also sound like the kind of thing she would have done. She probably wouldn't even have any listings if she didn't have family in the business. For goodness sake - isn't there a model home for her to show? Hope this is the last of your downer experiences and from now on it's just the joy of being Home At Last.

Sunny - I've been feeling that same need to shake up my routine - partly because of the beauty of spring, but partly because I've just been in a rut. Can you swim yet, in your pool?
Where are your first short trips going to be? Will your DH go with you?

Kate - woo woo! Good for that president for defending you. I bet you'll enjoy the club duties so much more without that pesty member. Can't wait to see your final cookie.

Donna - It's not shorts weather here anymore. 60's in the days but 30's at night. How lovely though, that you got to take a neighbor for a drive and a bit of socializing. What kind of outdoor fun did you have yesterday?

Cindy - I don't have a gas or electric grill - mine is the basic metal tub with racks. It IS a Webber grill and they're very sturdy and well made, but I used the cheap ones from Walmart for decades. I love a smoky BBQ but lately I've grown disillusioned with restaurant offerings. To get it really good you have to smoke it a long time and check on it regularly. My theory is that someone makes fantastic smoked meats at home and friends encourage them to start a restaurant. But once they are making smoked meats for a larger audience they decide that time consuming, and expensive, technique can be shaved a little - and as a result - the flavor goes down. I only ever knew one BBQ restaurant that was delicious for it's entire lifespan. That's why I started making my own.

Yoo Hoos to the rest of the team

Today is the 47th anniversary of DH's and my marriage. It was a warm sunny April day when we drove over to the Rockville County, MD courthouse and said "I do". 1974 doesn't really seem that antiquated but it was a long time ago for me. 2/3 of my life. Usually he sleeps till 8 but hear him stirring upstairs so I'm off to share a morning cup of coffee with him.

Wishing everyone well today.

Good morning, friends!

Nancy Anne, I would have been shocked to find strangers in "my home" too, although I guess it's a gray area since you are not the "owners" but I seem to recall that the owner/builder gave you the right of possession in a written document. Got to wonder if the builder gave her permission as I'm sure he would love to sell another house. I'd check the wording of the contract to see if it's covered. Once you've unpacked, you sure don't want folks wandering into your home, especially without notice!! Ah, the Adventures of Nancy Anne!! Join us in another episode.... LOL!

Bess, I am SO glad to hear of your progress with the PT!! It is SO smart to find the root cause of pain and see what exercise or changes can be made to fix it as opposed to meds with all their side effects or enduring surgery, if it can be avoided. And being called "little"! That happened to me at my mammogram this year, but you have to remember the statistics on obesity! Isn't it over 50% these days? And I expect the majority of patients being treated by physicians, PTs, etc are obese due to the fact that obesity causes more health problems. So when they see Maintainers like us, they are most likely thrilled to be working with someone who really cares about their health and fitness!

We both woke before the alarm for our trek through the woods. But it's raining. So I have my rain gear, but will follow whatever plan DH comes up with. Yesterday he sent me and DGD a video of a turkey gobbling and he picked 61 mushrooms! It was a perfect sunshiney day. The forecast isn't ideal, includes snow on Tues, or as Sue called it, white rain.

Nell, I hope you get that inflammation calmed down as I expect it not only makes you feel horrible, but it causes more damage to your insides. Thus the recommended treatment -- like firefighters coming to the rescue of a roaring fire! A priority. Not what anyone WANTS to do, but necessary. Keep us posted.

Cyberspace seems to be working better here today but I don't want to press my luck so I'll close it up. Hope all have a great day and stay healthy!!
