Donna, glad you finally have a date for the first surgery!!! I know how it goes - my knee surgeon was booking patients three months ahead of time, and physical therapy needed about six weeks advance notice to get an appointment. That's why I postponed it all for a year, I didn't want to be recuperating from knee replacement in snow and ice. (It would have been in late November/early December.) But there are a lot of things you can do ahead of time to get yourself ready for the surgery and then the recuperation period. (Plus everyone says knees are worse than hips - so having the hip first makes sense, it's a shorter period of time to get back in shape.) We'll talk next week.

I did my 5 miles on the bike at DH's PT, and planned to spend the rest of the day snuggled inside. It didn't rain as much as anticipated, but I'm sleepy from not enough sleep last night so I made it an easy day.

Evening all!

Oh Donna, I'm glad you finally got a surgery date. What a horrible wait!

I made it to a local running store group run after work. I went early though in case I got paged for work. I haven't run in 3 weeks, before I got sick, so I only planned a couple miles. My running buddy came after me and texted me to slow down and she'd catch up. I ran a figure eight around a few blocks waiting, but we didn't cross paths. I ended up getting in 4 1/2 miles and I felt ok.

Even when workout buddies are not right by your side, they push you to be your best!

Yes Maree, looks like summer weather is over. Definitely (as they said in an old Saturday Night Live skit) "sweata weatha".

Yeah, I was telling DH about my run-in with the bees, he apologized for laughing. It was pretty funny.... after I got free from them! emoticon

Hi folks,
It's been a full day, and I'm ready for bed!
I'm glad to hear progress on your Mom's move, Nell, and that you have a surgery date, Donna! It will be hard for a while, but it does seem best to have the knee done shortly after the hip to get it all over with.

Sleep well!

Wow, I've been on the phone the whole day.

This is the first time I've ever had to make a claim on a long term care policy, it's a lot more complicated than the ads would have you believe. It will work out fine, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through to assure them that this is a legitimate claim. There must be a lot of people trying to game the system, so I get it, but it's still another layer on top of an already stressful time. The social worker where Mom lives finally agreed to cooperate with explaining why she's leaving.

Maree, I eat probably 3 or 4 sugar cookies at Christmas. I can't take the chance of making a dent in the stash I make for the kids. And the family keeps getting bigger. My nephew may finally be willing to introduce us to his boyfriend at Christmas, and sugar cookies are a great Christmas welcome to the family.

Donna, I have a friend who is an orthopedic surgeon who used to have a practice in Wisconsin. He said he got a lot of patients from Canada who didn't want to wait and just paid for surgery in the US.

Have a great evening!

Good Morning!

I walked 2.5 miles early this morning. I'll be leaving soon to take my good friend, Mary, to Missoula. We enjoy each other so much. She'll also do her monthly shopping. It's like killing 2 birds with one stone. I need to buy a new watch because the one I had died. I also need to buy a new hair brush. The other night, I knocked my brush off the bathroom counter and when it hit the floor, the handle broke. The brush still works, but I like the handle. That's never happened to me before!

As far as wanting some of the hot weather, how about we both share ... I'll share some of our cold and you share some of your heat... I wish it was that easy.!

Morning everyone. I have news! My hip surgery will be on November 19. I am ecstatic. This waiting has been awful. When I went in yesterday my doc came into see me with a cast on his wrist. So you know what that means. He is out of commission for six weeks just in the cast then who knows how long before he can operate. I am going to have my surgery with his partner. He made me feel quite comfortable with this decision. I really feel I don’t have a lot of choice as I cannot go on like this for much longer. You wouldn’t believe the noises from both my hip and my knee.
I think most of you know I live in Canada where our medical system is much different than how things are run in the US. Our surgeons are allowed a certain amount of surgery time and the rest of us have to fit into that. When I went for a second opinion I knew I was giving up my spot for surgery with that doctor and was then at the bottom of a list with the new doctor. We do not have as many surgeons as you do either. I think because of how this has progressed I have been moved up on the list with these new doctors but it has meant I have had a really long wait. I will be having my knee surgery as soon as I recover from the hip surgery. As you can imagine I am not looking forward to what I will have to go through in the next year but I will be extremely happy to then be more mobile.

Happy Friday Eve! I'm so ready for this week to be over, even though the weekend will be busy.

Thanks for the commiseration on the doctor. I looked to see if I could find where the NP went to, but it looks like she left the state, and the doctor moved across the state. My old practice before this one had stopped delivering babies, so I was spoiled - no unexpected arrivals to deliver - and ran very smoothly. This practice here is poorly run, but I liked the NP, and since I didn't go there regularly, I put up with it. And Bess, I'm with you - I'll go out of my way for a doc that I like.

Kellie - Eek! Bees! So glad that you didn't get stung.

Nell - Glad that it sounds like things are coming together for the move!

Donna - Hope you can get it sooner than you think!

I've got to get to it! Have a great day, all!

Good morning!

Eager to hear the heat looks to be moving on, fingers crossed, Virginians. Our patched together AC is barely holding up and they are waiting to replace it until we don’t need it. Smart, but glad to see that summer, much as I love it, is on its last legs.

Bess, a lovely rendering. I hope that family was pleased.
Maree, enjoy those last boating days.
Nell, delighted to hear the move is getting closer and that you have so much help.
Phebess, still envious of rain!
Poindextra, have done that ‘pacing’ thing these days. My DH walks the halls in his office!
Jamir, I dislike losing a good doc too. I look at all of mine and see them age... I know changes are a coming.
Donna, I’m curious about the delay in your surgery too. Is this your choice or the docs have other reasons?
Kellie, you reported you bee story so casually....sounds terrifying. Were they ‘lazy’ bees? We have huge wasp nest in a tree at the lake and are waiting until it gets chilly to take care of it.
Econ, hope your med procedures go well.
Nancy, I think the 20’s are harder than any stage on kiddos and their parents. It’s the decade of real life stresses, sometimes for the first time.
Bea, your steps are impressive!

Worked with a PT person yesterday on some hip restriction. I can’t sit cross legged in yoga on my right side. Made some progress but clearly this will take some ‘nudging’ for a bit of time. Eager to get it fixed before ski season.

Have a good one, team friends! Toni

Thank you, everyone, for the compliments and encouragement on my artwork. Maree - it IS fun to be able to hone my skills in a class setting.
Phebess - I really admire your boldness in tackling new foods in new countries.
Poindextra - me too, me too - so ready for the 90+ temps to go away
Bea - want some hot weather? I'll grade ya for some snow
Nancy Anne - I'm like you - bees would really rather sting someone else than me. Mosquitoes too. Hope you're having fun in your fall class - I think you're wise to ease back into student life.
Econlady - Wow! That is a LOT of cookies. I hope the massage and chiro made you feel relaxed and mellow (and thank you for the compliment)
Kellie - ugh. prednisone weight. Not a happy thing. Glad you're easing off that particular high. (did have to chuckle at the image of you swatting the bees)
Donna - do you know why there's such a long wait for your surgery? Hope you got good news yesterday
Jamirblaze - I hear ya about doctor shortage. We do have some good ones but the practice always seems to be down one doctor. So far mine has stayed put and has her kids in the local public school. I drive to the city for my gyn. dr. because I can't stand the one who practices here.
Nell - thank goodness you have some strong family support - and just where you need it too. We're all rooting for you while you go through this big transition. And thanks for the drawing compliment - it's pencil. I use a mechanical pencil.

Well - the visit to the grands was ... Grand! Da Pwince is almost 4 months old and his personality is very evident. Da Pwincess and I spent most of the morning outdoors while mama and brother slept, and we discovered a hollow log in the woods that was filled with rocks. We spent the time adding more stones to her "rock garden" and I taught her a song about the Little Red Caboose. Gosh I love being Nana!

Good morning!

Bess, your portrait is exquisite! What fun for you to further your skills at your classes! I trust you had a wonderful day with your grands.

Nell, glad to hear that plans are falling into place for the move.

Donna, what did you learn about your knee surgery? Would you say the shot helped?

Bea, do you have a knee surgery date?

Kellie, so glad you weren't stung by any of those bees, and that you're feeling better. Cold front coming through today--think our summer temps are coming to an end?

DD and DGD will be here for the weekend as there's a family bonfire party Saturday evening. DH will go to the houseboat to hunt. We'll need to make something to share. Next weekend is a bridal shower and a Halloween event at the marina. All "food" events, of course. Indulging just once seems to ramp up the sugar cravings for more and more, especially this time of year. Nell, do I recall correctly that you only eat one of your homemade sugar cookies every year?

Time to dress for crossfit class (lots of "rope" work today), pack my lunch and traveling today for work.

Hope all have a great day!!
