Jamir, Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!! (And 35 is still cute - I'd say about 37 is middle age.)

Maree, so frustrating to have one's doctor retire or move or whatever. Especially when the doctor was really good and listened to you! I'm considering finding a different asthma person - my asthma dr is only in the office twice a week, and never got in touch with me last week even though we got the latest test results last Monday. So annoying - but this is the best allergy/asthma place in town, so I'm sort of stuck.

Donna, always nice to spend time with family, especially when you don't see them very often!

Sunny, it's smart to make this move while you can - hope you can sell the California house, but have fun setting up the AZ house!

Toni, I remember Home Ec - but they always had us make the weirdest foods that my family never ate at home! My mother taught all of us to cook, and my three brothers and I are all good cooks - my sister tends to ignore recipes for things like bread, so often makes disasters. But we learned more at home than in school. (And all three of my brothers took Home Ec as well.)

Bess, I'm working in acrylic, though some have 20% wool with the acrylic. All work with size H crochet hook, and are soft to the touch. Mostly I'm just collecting different colors - soft rainbow colors, if that makes sense. Not bright brights, but on the softer side. I've finished the roses which are crocheted in a long strip, which now needs to be rolled and sewed into place. Then I'll take some photos. I do wish I had a studio or even a room - I have the colors sorted into grocery bags, which are under the end table in our living room area, LOL. Not the most attractive storage, but I do clean up every day. (DH always takes the desk or table in any hotel room, and spreads out his computer and such. I tend to be more portable with my projects, so I move from room to room, carrying bags of materials.)

Nell, that is so odd about that beef!!! Do you think the clerk just forgot to bag it for you?

Today was laundry day for me - I'm heading to Seattle tomorrow on the train to meet up with my college buddies, and will spend a night there. I'm half packed - just need to figure out what shirts to pack for 2 days.

Hi folks,
Just got home from my piano lesson.
It's hard to find good doctors; I feel for anyone who has to switch.
I made time for a full hour lunch break yesterday and today, which I spent puttering on the computer ordering a few things I need and paying some bills.
I'll work from home tomorrow to mind the maids, and hopefully cross a few more admin items off of my to-do list.
Now gotta shower and get set for tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Good Morning!

Today is my day to get things done around home. My first task is to mow the lawn. Next is paperwork. I don't like paperwork. Tomorrow, I have to take Bernie to another doctor appointment. Its for her neck. I'm praying that she will no longer need someone to care for her all day and night.

We signed papers and got the keys for the house in Phoenix. Then it was a lot of getting projects set up with various people before we went back to Southern Calif today. We are really happy to be near DD and family and I am glad we are moving now instead of later in our life. The housing market in our Southern Calif area is slowing down and not the house will sell before the end of the year

Back tomorrow

Good morning! I'm 35 today. I guess that means middle age? I'm more than half as old as my maternal grandfather when he died and half as old as my maternal grandmother when she died (mom is currently older than either). Paternal grandparents died in their 80s. Working today, celebrate this weekend.

Maree - At least, you have some idea where he's at with that collar! I hate losing a doctor and finding new ones. The one that my parents have right now (they are looking for new ones) have my parents in there all of the time and is always trying to prescribe another pill. My mom is diabetic and has to be monitored, but there is NO reason for my dad, who is on normal maintenance meds, should have to go in every 3 months. Except for $$$ for the doc.

Bess - My parents old dog used to take off, and my dad would throw something near her, and that would get her to stop. She finally decided to stick around, and never left their acre lot. The new dog adores him so much, she never goes too far from him.

Nell - I work with college students of all ages. Financial basics aren't taught at home or high school and should be. The one class that we have here is extremely popular and fills every time that it is offered, and I usually participate in some one off seminars every semester. There have been proposals that the university make a financial management class mandatory for graduation. You should see some of the stuff that people want me to clean up. Unfortunately, law schools don't issue magic wands.

I've got to think about getting to it. Have a great day, all!

Oh gosh, you got me thining.

Picking up on Nell’s post yesterday and Bess’s today....thinking about home ed. I remember making a floor plan and figuring out how much it would cost to furnish a room. I am sure my cost calculation was lower than anything I’ve actually been able to make happen—although the bean bag era saved my young wife time. But it was and is still valuable to realize how to make such a plan. And yes, Bess, knowing how to make a decent meal with very little money was part of it too. (It helps that it was pre-processed foods for the most part).

And yes, Nell, everyone needs to know these things! And then some.

Maree - I hate having to hunt down a doctor - and really miss the two I had who moved away. One had amazing pharmacy skills who actually prescribed recipes for the pharmacist mix up. The choices are few, as well, in our small community.
Phebess - lets hear it for the all chocolate dinner! LOL - what fiber are you working with for your crochet project? Wool? Acrylic? Cotton?
Nell - without a doubt the best class I ever took, even surpassing college courses, was senior home-ec. Among the most amazing things we were taught was how to make a meal for 10 for $1. Using an inflation calculator I found that means - feeding 10 people for $6.19 today.
Toni - LOL - if only that also meant you would stay the same weight no matter what you ate,eh? Still - I'd far rather be an adult than a child.
Bea - I hope you enjoyed your meal out
Econlady - hope you're feeling better
Donna - that family party sounded wonderful. And yes! I put up a new pic of the studio-a-borning on my sparkpage. it's a work-in-progress photo but I'll blog about it when more is done.
Jamir - we've had 2 dogs who would run away so we never took them far from home. The present pair are homebodies, thank goodness.
Shout-outs to all the rest of the team.

We worked on the studio yesterday, I assembled kits and DH strengthened them. I'd bought fairly cheap stuff because, even cheap adds up. The yarn storage is done and I'll start moving my stash out there today. There are 2 kits of kitchen cabinet pull out drawers that DH has promised he will install one day this week. Lots of back and forth for me, as I move things from the house to the studio. Wonder how many steps I'll rack up.

Maree, I'm sorry you are losing a doctor. I paid the $2100 concierge fee to my doctor just so I wouldn't have to hunt for a new one. Be glad you aren't on Medicare, PCPs don't like new Medicare patients, except in locations where they are the bulk of the population and can overcome the low reimbursement with volume.

I went to the grocery store yesterday like I do every Monday. I bought a pound of beef sirloin for dinner. When I went to pull it from the fridge I couldn't find it. I don't remember putting it away, but I don't remember putting any specific item away, the bags came in, the bags went into recycling, but that $15 piece of meat must have been left at the store. Too late to call about it, I doubt that if anyone found it they refrigerated it. I have no idea what happened, did the checker just not put it in my basket? Bummer.

Good morning.

I’m sorry you are losing your doctor, Maree, albeit for a reason we can all understand. I sure agree with you about finding someone interested in both root causes and prevention. I want to believe that all the information about healthy living will become part of the medical professions’ training and tool bag. And of course all of us need to be our own advocates—as I know you and others on are team are.

Starting the day slowly. Was tired yesterday after such a full weekend. Eager to reset my energy today and be active.

Toni

Good morning!

So nice that the rain held off for the party, Donna. What a nice visit you are having!

Jamirblaze, yes, DH has quite a fancy GPS tracker on Scamp. He can tone him, trains him to come back, and shock him if necessary (reserved for unusual circumstances, like coyotes preying on him, or other dangers). The problem was our voices echoing in the hollars of the bluffs--we couldn't even hear each other and DH said my whistle sounded like it was coming from the opposite direction. Live and learn. We'll just need to stay closer to him when in situations like that.

Scale is still happy with this way of eating. 11 months under my (much looser) belt. I'm still amazed, to be honest. Dr ordered "non fasting" blood tests and all came back in "normal, stable" range. Previous tests were "fasting" labs. DH is also doing well with this way of eating. I spent an hour or so investigating six doctors my retiring doctor recommended. I'm pretty bummed she's retiring after only 25 yrs.--family circumstances as one of her six children is disabled and out of the school system, so she's staying home with him. Her husband is a doctor, too. I want a doctor interested in prevention, who will look for the root cause of any illness, not merely prescribe meds or procedures.

Okay, time to dress for crossfit class. Traveling today. Fasters meeting tonight.

Hope all have a great day!!
