Maree, happy birthday to your sweet granddaughter! And 8 is a great age - fun, energetic, inquisitive, and not ready for peer pressure!

Enjoy the grandkidlets, Toni!

Nell, you might share this story with your board: My husband lived in Florida for a while, and the neighbor's pitbull would jump the 6 ft fence and attack DH's beagle/terrier mix. DH talked to the neighbors and also called the police. But the dog kept jumping the fence and attacking his little dog. DH intervened but at one point the pitbull bit HIM - so he grabbed the dog and slammed him against the house and killed the dog. Tossed it over the fence into the neighbor's yard, and left a message on their door. So, the old lady either needs to control her dog or yes, the police can be called and they (or animal control) will take the dog away from her. (And DH was a conscientious object during Vietnam, so it took a lot for him to actually kill someone's dog, even if it kept attacking his much smaller dog.)

Jamir, the Talmud says each visit to a sick or recuperating person makes them 1/60th better - so your visit will help her recover. Really.

Donna and Bea, safe travelling!

Econlady, it does sound as if your daughter may just be a contrarian, someone who will always do the opposite of what anyone may tell her to do. Some people are just like that, and you can't do much except let her know that you're there for her if she ever wants/needs you. And know that it isn't you that's the problem.

Kellie, I know what you mean about all those bladder irritants. I think you'd have to eat nothing but white rice to make the bladder happy. I try to minimize my coffee, but, well, bladders just get confused sometimes as they age.

We don't have plans for travel yet. DH is convinced he'll be ready for our tour of the Mediterranean and North African region. He begins PT next week, so we'll see. But if he needs more PT beyond early October, well, maybe we'll end up in the SW US again. Unless he's willing to pay the full price, in which case I suggested Australia (since we can get a 1 yr visa, and we speak the language). So, I'm just waiting to see. He's ready to make plans, but I keep slowing him down with reality. (That pesky concept.)

I've developed conjunctivitis - had it as a child, and I've been having allergic reactions in my eyes off and on. I guess I didn't pull out the allergy eye drops soon enough, so it went to the next level. Not terrible to just have eye drops 4x a day for a week, but I do look horrible with swollen red eyes at the moment. (Really, I think I could try out for a zombie or maybe a vampire. Might not be as obvious to other people, but we always think it's so obvious when we look different, don't we?)

Hi folks,
I'm pacing to get my minimum steps in. I'm TIRED!
Econ, my heart goes out to you.
We took a chance on purchasing a mattress from Costco that got good reviews; it will be delivered tomorrow. I sure hope we like it! We bought miteproof covers tonight for the mattress and box springs. If it doesn't work out, we can sleep on our guest bed while we shop for another mattress, but we hope it won't be necessary.
I'm running out of steam so will just say goodnight.
Sleep well!

Hi all. Work from home day. I get so much more done when I work from home. I never used to be good at it but I have evolved! emoticon

My followup urology appt yesterday went well. Overactive bladder has been quite the last few months. At he urologists suggestion a few months ago, I take Prelief (over the counter) with nearly everything I eat or drink since nearly everything I eat is on the bladder irritant list!

I hope your daughter comes around Econlady. That hurts my heart.

Happy birthday wishes all around.

I have a pedicure later, need to check the time on that. Another step in my nurturing me routine to balance out the work stress.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Looking forward to a lunch break walk after my next conference call!

TGIF!

Good morning!

Its cooler here today and cloudy. If it rains, it'll wash away the smoke temporarily, As long as the fires are burning, it'll come back.

We'll be leaving for Idaho (The Place to Go is Idaho) for my 50th class reunion. It doesn't seem like its should be that long.

Maree happy birthday to your granddaughter.

We had dinner with our daughter and you could tell she didnít want to be there. I mentioned her old baby sitters new baby and she said she doesnít like babies and they all look like potatoes. She hardly talked but did talk about her neurotic cat. When she went to get a cat the woman there told her not to get this 10 year old cat whose owner had died. Basically she got the cat because she was told not to do it. My daughter said her reasoning was that since no one else would adopt it she would, but she was plain stubborn at being told what not to do. I hope this doesnít sound odd, but I realized that she is the problem. She has a tape running in her head that either makes her nuts or she is just very immature. I canít make her change. I can only be there if she needs me and let her know I love her. We tried to make plans with her, but she said she was busy. Iím sad she canít make time for us, but she is a loner. Saying this breaks my heart, but again I canít change her and nothing I say will change that. All I can do is send prayers.

Happy FRIDAY!

Maree - Happy Birthday to you DGD! Hope it's a fun weekend!

Econlady - Would your daughter be open to a mediated session with a therapist? Sometimes, a third party can help. Otherwise, all you can do is give her space, but let her know that you are there for her and want to improve your relationship. Therapy for yourself can also help you figure out how to best approach this and help give you some perspective.

Bess - Hope your computer is well again soon!

Toni - Hope you have a great visit!

Nell - I didn't want a large dog in my mid-30s and fairly in shape. I can control him physically, but before we really got used to one another, it was very difficult. Now, he minds pretty well, and we rarely have an issue, except for prey drive towards wild animals and cats which we can anticipate and manage. Other dogs aren't really an issue. Pits are solid muscle and require a lot of training - not really old lady friendly dogs. My best friend has a pit-type, and she's nothing but sweetness and love at her core, but still requires a strong hand on her basic manners. I feel bad that she has to get rid of him, but he's a liability, so there's no way you could allow him to be there.

This weekend will be fairly slow. Seeing a friend to give her a little care package before she has surgery on Monday. Hysterectomy, but they have to do an abdominal incision. So she's going to be in the hospital 3-5 days, and then have a long recovery. Then just the usual stuff to get done.

Hope you all have a good one!

Good morning.

The condo meeting was OK. There was some contention about an old woman who owns a pitbull that she can't control, it keeps getting away and attacking other dogs. One board member said we have to let dogs do whatever they want, even knocking people over. Fortunately the other board members said she had to get rid of the dog. Why little old ladies have big dogs they can't control is beyond me.

Bess I hope you get your computer back soon. It's discombobulating to be without.

Toni, I hope you find a high chair. Would a booster seat for a regular chair work in a pinch?

Marie, Happy Birthday to your DGD!

Lots to do today before the weekend.

Good morning everyone. My computer is in the hospital today and I have to use a phone to check in. Clumsy at best.

Wishing everyone a great start to the weekend. I've got a mani-pedi scheduled followed by hooking up with a cousin to shop and set up for the family reunion

Good morning!

Whoops, I forgot to pack the high chair. Sending out an Ďall callí to my friends at the lake to see if there is one lurking for my darling GD. I promised to return it, if lended, without Goldfish crumbs, lol.

Happy Friday all. Hope we all find some reason to put our feet up and enjoy another summer weekend. All of a sudden I am aware that this is the last month of Ďhighí summer. I feel it for some reason, even though it is still plenty hot. Perhaps itís the humidity here which always loosens just a tad at night at the end of the season.

Donna, Iím so glad you are seeing all the beauty. I feel your gratitude for life shining through your posts.

Good morning! It's Friiidaaay!!

And my dear granddaughter's 8th birthday! Oh, how I remember that call in the middle of the night from my daughter that her water had broken--but her due date wasn't until October! We rushed the two hour trip to be by her side, and although the doctors tried to stall the delivery, DGD said, "nope, I'm ready and here I am!" So blessed she was healthy and home from the NICU by Labor Day that year. Such wonderful memories.

Econlady, are there touching, loving memories you can share with your daughter? Maybe reaching out to her about some of your fondest memories of her childhood would warm her heart--most people love to talk about themselves, focus on the positive times. Just an idea, since you asked... I, too, feel sad that the relationship has gone cold and hope and pray for some healing while you are there. Hugs.

Toni, now that groceries are ready, and you've had a good night's sleep (I hope), it's time to prepare for your wild ride with the little ones! I hope you have a blast (and no valuables are broken)! And congrats to the Colorado couple--home sweet home!

Kellie, I'm so glad you have your yoga stress relievers in place!! Family all okay?

Nell, how did the condo meeting go? Hope all is well. Did it collect from the embezzler?

Bess, love the idea of a porch poetry party of two on a cool summer evening... I'll have to find your blog to see the studio picture. So happy for you as you move your fav books in!

Jamir, what do you have planned for the weekend? Poindextra, sounds like you'll be working a bit--hope you can do something enjoyable, too.

Bea, we generally have no fires in the midwest to cause air quality concerns; glad you can find a time go enjoy the outdoors.

Donna, how nice to be surrounded by beautiful country as you travel! I love to soak it up, too. Last night on our bicycle ride, we pass tall cornfields, cows in a pasture, woods, we cross a wooden bridge over a river, we've seen deer and a young fox on the abandoned railway right of way bike trail. The moon was already visible as we finished our ride about 7:15 p.m. 16 miles. DH saw a sign for the Century ride coming up, yep, 100 miles, and asked if I wanted to do it. I just said, I've done two of them; I didn't rule it out.

Phebess, "if you're still around"? Ah, plans to travel in the making? Inquiring minds want to know... LOL

Off to crossfit class, lunch is made, bags are packed for the trip to the houseboat. We'll head to DD's house for DGD's birthday party at her gymnastics gym Sunday.

Hope all have a great Friday!!
