Hi team,
Bess, kudos to your hubby for looking after his health!
I had a busy day of errands today, but my energy is still lower than I'd like. I'm off to bed now.

Sleep well!

I'm sort of glad we don't have a kitchen, so I won't be making latkes, noodle kugel, or DH's favorite, sour cream coffee cake. The latkes are the only thing that's really for Chanukah, but I always made the other items for our annual Chanukah brunch party. We both love my cooking, and I can make the kugel and coffee cake with lowfat Greek yogurt and such - but still, we really don't need extra sweets around. (The kugel also has apple it it - but all the egg and noodles - well, not a healthful dish.)

We're heading out to a jazz concert at the Desert Art Museum shortly - our first social event in Tucson! And then tomorrow, there are several events at synagogues for the first night of Chanukah - DH wants to go, and we'll find a place that looks like it might be fun.

We've met people at cafťs and restaurants, but haven't really gotten to know anyone other than the staff, LOL! So we'll be friendly and see if we can start making friends.

I know Nell. If you look after yourself, exercise and diet faithfully you wonít get rid of the diabetes but you can sure prevent these terrible repercussions of the disease. Unfortunately no one but you can do this. I think Bessí husband is paying attention. Good for him.....

My back is feeling almost all better, so thankful. It's almost returned to its usual "cranky", lol.

I put the lights on the tree this morning, time consuming but it went well and looks pretty.
Also going to do some more indoor decorating... I just love how warm and cozy the house looks during the holidays.

I am considering myself techically at goal weight as of today.... just four more measly ounces until I'm right on the dot. I am so happy to have come so far in just six months. All of those little changes made for one BIG result.

Wishing you all December blessings full of good health and happiness.

Donna, hubby is on a long lasting insulin, a shot just once a day after testing blood sugar. His fingers aren't controllable enough to even test his own blood sugar let alone give himself a shot, that's from vascular dementia caused by clogged arteries, which are made worse by diabetes. All that fat in his blood is sticky from sugar and more readily adheres to artery walls. That's why diabetes is so deadly, it's a cascading collection of effects that you never think of when watching diabetes medication ads on TV that make diabetes look so easy.

Nell, my hubby never looked after his diabetes either and now the number of meds he takes is unbelievable. He still doesnít look after himself and the things he usually wants to eat are the ones that are very bad for him. You know, sometimes you just have to give up. The only good thing he is not on insulin. He was at one time after his first heart attack but was taken off a few years later after his second attack.
I am going to decorate this weekend too.
Maree isnít it amazing that the tooth fairy just knows where your DGD was last night. Amazing,
Kelli you inspire me with your dedication to exercise.
Bess, I love Christmas music too. No cds in our house any more. I put all our music on my iPod.
Today we are going out for lunch with our son and his wife, I am really looking forward to seeing them. It will be a good day.

Good morning. It's December! I'll decorate today so the house will look festive for an entire month.

Bess, yes it's expensive to regulate diabetes with medication. The blood sugar meter and lancets are cheap, but they get you on the test strips. My husband also takes a double dose of glyburide and metformin twice a day, as well as Januvia in the morning, and he has to get a shot of insulin every day. It adds right up. At some point there is no getting off of it anymore, no matter his diet, and he is no longer capable of hard exercise. His second and biggest stroke was 8 years ago today when I found him on the bedroom floor unable to speak or get up. He never really believed that diabetes could do that to him, but it did, now it's too late.

Have a great first day of December all!

Hi all! ready for a fresh new month to reestablish my healthy habits after letting stress derail me.

I headed out for a short run this morning but it was too windy, I turned back and went home. I've never done that but since I have a 5K in the morning and a family party tonight, no sense battling wind today.

So housework, a cardio video and yoga today.

Sunnybeach girl, you are so right, my mom was a "challenge" to put it nicely so I think my dad is repeating what he had. '

Warriorsue, hope you are feeling better. I too love the salonpas!

Happy Saturday!

Ready for a fresh month full of social activities. I'm really in the mood for music, colors, lights, and friends. I'll pull out the Christmas CDs this morning and we always start with Handel's Messiah. Tomorrow we're going to a Renaisance Christmas music recital and next week we'll go to the live performance of the Messiah in the city. As I get older, it's music and fragrance that makes the holidays so special for me.

We won't have much of any kind of sweet in the house, and very few flour products either, because DH was given his last chance challenge from his dr. to Get That Sugar Down by early January Or Else. And that Or Else will involve needles and dollars. The up side of a clean healthy kitchen is that I ought to be able to whittle my excess lbs down too. After all - I'm the chef in this house.

Hope you all have a lovely Saturday. We're promised rain but ... just the drizzle sort. And warmer temps.

Believe it
Do it
Become it

Good morning!!

December... so much to do, so many traditions, many including sugary treats, so many friends and family to greet and hug, all in all, as the song says, it's a wonderful time of the year.

But stressful, good stress and bad stress. What we eat, when we eat it and challenging our bodies with some good exercise will help keep that stress in check. My plan: Hold out for that really special treat--look at the calendar and plan for the days that will include those treats and days that my body can operate on good fuel, including the fat already stored for those times.

Warriorsue, my favorite "back massage" is the dense, dark gray, foam roller. 5 minutes or less, rolling out my shoulders and scapula. I liked the ones at the gym so much that I bought one for home. One of my best friends! Hahahaha. Good for all those aching muscles, but especially for my upper back!

DD and DGD are here this weekend and the tooth fairy came last night!! Looking forward to a great day! Hope that each and every one of you has a great day too!!
