Maree, those parties DO sound wild!

I'm happy to say that I can enjoy the long weekend without having to do any office work. We incorporated all of the peer review comments into our document, and sent it out for management review at 5 PM sharp. It will be in review all next week, so that will give me time to work on my other project's document and do some maintenance tasks for the first project. Whew!

It's supposed to be a rainy weekend, so hubby and I will play it by ear regarding outings. I'd love to get some hiking in, but we'll see. Tomorrow I have an eye doc appointment at 0830, and plan to look for new frames as well. I'm having trouble focusing on the piano music and computer, so definitely need an Rx adjustment.

Off to bed!

Maintenance is as much work as losing, but it has the advantage of allowing us to do it in cuter clothes - BESSHAILE

Happy weekend to all - and Maree, your "adults only" party sounds wild, but yes, we grow out of that and into the more sedate "family friendly" parties!

Bess, my way of "shopping" with DH most of the time is "okay, let's meet over here in two hours." He thinks everything is too expensive, and wants to bargain on the prices. I find it embarrassing! Sometimes I'll wander by and give him a few items to try on - but most of the time, I leave him on his own.

Our weather has improved, but it definitely is decidedly autumn already.

Apparently I ate something yesterday that set off my sensitive stomach - so I'm taking it easy today, tea and light carbs, canned soup, and such. At least this is "Harry Potter weekend" on some TV channel, so I'm enjoying that, LOL!

It's a thing in our family, we all have these stomachs that go off at the first sign of anything that isn't super fresh. So, well, it's our occasional normal.

Hi all! Happy Friday and long weekend! I was supposed to have the day off but went in for half a day to get caught up on some I couldn't get done yesterday while taking my dad to the urologist.

I stopped and got a gift for DHs bday which is Tuesday. We're expecting a rainy weekend so not sure we'll get his annual bday motorcycle ride this weekend.

Tomorrow will be one year since my daughter moved away. Looking forward to flying down to visit her in 26 days!!

I'm so happy about your friend Toni. I was thinking about her when I was out on my bike last week.

Maree add me to the list of those who chuckled reading your marina story. I would like the family oriented parties now too. Enjoy your weekend.
Toni, such good news about your friend. Hopefully now she will recover quickly. You too have a fun packed weekend with family and friends. Enjoy every second.
Today, 8 am off to a coffee party with my Y friends. I always look forward to spending a few hours with these lovely ladies. I am feeling a little guilty about leaving Dh again this morning but it has been a busy week.
Not much planned for our weekend either but our son and wife will be here for dinner on Sunday.
Who can believe it is the end of August.
Have a good day everyone!

I love the story about the wild marina parties.

The other day I was decorating cookies and I accidentally dropped a container of dragees, Dragees are the little balls you sometimes find on a cake, but not all mine were smail. Some of the silver one were bigger than a pearl ( and almost impossible to find). It was a mess. I put on a dust mask and for the first time in over a decade I used the vacuum cleaner. Honestly I couldnít tell you what brand we had or how to operate it. Luckily i guessed right and after a struggle I got most of them. It is embarrassing to think how long it had been since i worked a vacuum.

This is our third time at LA airport this year. One trip for ourselves, one trip with DD and family, this trip to visit friends in Seattle. No more long flights until next summer or until I get the travel budget back to positive range.

Everyone have a great weekend

Happy Friday! Planned early out today - I think I need it. Recovery feels harder today than yesterday, but working on it.

Whole 30 starts tomorrow. I did a big Target run for compliant nut butters, pistachios, RX Bars, etc. that I can use when I need something quick on the go. A few more groceries, and I'll be set.

Sending good thoughts to those that need them! Have a good weekend!

Good morning. Looks like you all have busy weekends planned. We'll be doing very little. Hard to believe it's the last day of August.

It rained hard last night, enough to wake me up. I found the NOAA website that tracks rainfall at Dulles (right next door), they got .81 inches.

Errands today. Have a great day all.

Good morning!

Thank you for sharing my happiness for my friend with a head injury. Phebess, especially appreciate your report on someone else getting a shunt and recovering more completely.

We had a good lake day. We are here before the labor day crowds so our son got to water ski on calm water. Heís enjoys it and his Colorado life doesnít give him any chances on water. Spotting him from the boat brought back so many memories of his learning, getting better. Now heís a handsme strong young man (biased of course). As Nell says, in a flash...

There seem to be as many retirement stories as there are people. We were at dinner last week and all 4 of us were in different places about our post main career lives. It was freeing to hear. One person living a very quiet and sedate life, another busy as can be. I like the middle where I have some work that I choose or must do, but spaces in between. And the life sure throws us curves when people we care about need us.

Maree, quite a story of the olden bawdy days on the river! Loved reading about it but am with you for a quieter pitch to things.
Bess, you and your princess seem like peas in a pod! I hope your DILís family get to come back and forth plenty in the future.
Phebess, hope you and your DH had a good time shopping!
Donna, good news about the air where you are.
Sunny, sounds like you might find clean air in the NW too. Yay!
Econlady, hope you enjoy your regular/routine day.
Kellie, what an escapade you had. Isnít it a pain when ordinary days turn into such nutsy challenges. Glad you could go to bed with Ďmission accomplished.í
Jamir, keep getting better!!! Youíve had a siege.

Our house is happily filling up for the weekend. Our daughter and her two kids are coming down to lake and we didnít think they were able, a nice surprise. And then a friend of our sonís is coming as well. Heís his best buddy from elementary school and almost another son. He does call me Mom (-: Fun to catch up with him.

Bye for now from our watery world. Have a good weekend. Toni

Son-day! What a great term. Thanks Maree - and I, too, hope your car is ready quickly. That was some tale you told about the good (?) old days at the marina.
Toni - wonderful news about your friend. Hope you'll soon be reporting about her recovery. And do enjoy your special son-shine, this stormy weekend
Jamirblaze - hope you are cold free soon. Hope work becomes easier with added staff
and
Kellie - good gracious - what a day you had. Let us just hope it was jinx day pre-payment so that your turn for snafus doesn't roll around for months and months
Donna - so sorry about the lack of sleep - it's that full moon, you know. Even with blinds shut, curtains drawn - the light has a way of seeping in and throwing us off
Nell - funny thing about retirement - I went from "me? retire? why?" to "4 more years" in an instant, after DH had his last heart attack. That's how I knew.
Phebess - I enjoy shopping with my husband but I would rather not shop if I had to take him along. Ick. No thanks.
Econlady - happy cookie day to you
Poindextra - hope you have wonderful weekend plans
Sunny - enjoy your trip

My overnight babysitting gig with Da Pwincess was absolute joy. She and I just get along. It was harder for me to say goodbye to her other grandparents. They are such dear people and I miss them already. DiL is vegan and has discovered some wonderful veggie patties at her local ALDI's, so I stopped there on my way home to get some. My workout yesterday was a hike through the woods. It was still hot but there was much less humidity than earlier in the week. There was a clarity in the air that seemed to make everything sparkle. Today it's rainy and I've scheduled an upper body workout dvd just in case. Last day of August has me working on plans for what I want to accomplish between now and 2019.

Believe it
Do it
Become it

Good morning!! It's Friiiidaaay!!

Ah, the last hurrah of summer. Our boat club is hosting a party out at a sandbar on Sunday, there will be t-shirts for sale, probably hot dogs and a time to socialize. Twenty years ago the marina boasted the biggest party on the Mississippi River. Boats were stacked throughout the harbor, the Lighthouse Restaurant was hopping, the outdoor Tiki Bar was packed with folks dancing to loud DJ music and drinking, of course, with a hot bod contest (the Corp of Engineers stopped that in 1999 [the year we came] when nudity was used as a way to win). Then, a fatality, a drunken man drowned in the harbor, and the Corp imposed so many restrictions that the Restaurant and Tiki Bar are now shuttered, the Recession and outrageous fuel prices were the final blow. It was an "Adult Weekend" which was great business for the marina, fun for meeting new people and sharing boat ideas, but the night life became gross and outta control. One gal with enhanced bosoms must have brought 30 different swimsuits and paraded a new one down the dock every couple of hours.

Don't miss much of that mess, really. Now the emphasis is "family friendly" and that's fine with me.

Unfortunately, DD and DGD aren't coming to the houseboat, they'll go to 13 yr old stepson's football game. He treats them all terribly, but his dad keeps trying.

Toni, so glad the doctors have diagnosed cause of complications and come up with plan to counteract! Enjoy your "son-shine" !!

Kellie, what a day you had! You've earned a great 3 day weekend for sure!! I won't even bother you all with the blips in my day yesterday--just hoping they fix my car at a decent hour today so we can get out of town.

Crossfit at 6 am, then a long walk with SIL at 8:30 am.

Hope all have a great day!!
