I guess my mother isn't the only one who lies to her Doctors. Good to know on one hand, but on the other, what the hay!

Hope everyone's October starts off on a high note tomorrow.

Nell,

A PET Scan, will tell all, and your doctor should be able to write it up in such a way that your insurance will cover it. I know it's an expensive test, but it certainly will tell all and your DH won't have any wiggle room.

My husband's neurologist wants him to have a PET scan, but insurance won't pay for it. Looks like $1500-$2000 out of pocket. Supposedly that test will tell the doc exactly what we are dealing with since hubby is in such total denial about his symptoms that it's hard to come up with a diagnosis and a plan. This is not a good time to sell stock to pay for it, though.

Good afternoon, everyone!

I got just over three miles in my run this morning. I started the 28 Day Home Workout Challenge last night, and will do Day 2 today (in place of the Pilates I was doing). I have been having a hard time finding an hour to do Pilates in the evenings, so I'm looking for alternate options that take less time.

I've noticed my portion control is getting a bit lax, so I will take the advice given below and pay closer attention!

Toni, that is terrific news about your son! It's great when you are able to get a job that you truly enjoy.

Bess, let me know what you think of the Skinny Jeans Challenge. I looked at that one briefly, but chose the Workout at Home one instead.

I hope everyone who will be travelling has a wonderful time!

Happy Wednesday!

Rainy and cool --- and I am ravenous!!! Planned my meals and thankfully had room for the mini milky ways someone had at a meeting and the Mary Jane in my emergency stash. I'll toss in some extra activity when I get home. Maybe a quick walk in the hall and a cup of tea will help... 😳

Nell,

I do weigh and measure everything, when I'm batch cooking or even if it's an individual meal, but I just felt like there was something more that I should be doing. I feel like something is missing. Why I'm not sure. Thanks, girl!

Queen,

Will you be going through the locks in Panama? I was stationed there for 3 years when I was in the Army. When I reenlisted, my Company Commander wanted me to stand on top of one of the locks to take the oath, and I told him no way, as he was the type of person that would make arrangements for the lock to open and put me in either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean!

I would watch Kayak races through the locks and it was so cool to watch the ocean levels come down and go up depending on which way you were going through the locks. Have FUN, young lady!

Linda,

I know the feeling! Get out some DVDs so you can workout in the house! I've been doing that quite regularly, with the rain here.

Blessings!

Good morning! Well, now that we're paying the big bucks for satellite internet...most of the time I can't even get the Spark page to load! Boo! I'm dreading the (probably looong) phone call to try to get this resolved. Anyway, between that problem, and having so much to do in the few days before leaving on our Panama Canal cruise, don't be surprised if you don't see me on here much before November. I wish you all a great Fall!

My portion control goes back to the way I was taught Weight Watchers 40 some years ago. I weigh and measure everything as it goes into the pot or the bowl, then put the even portion on my plate. My old leader said that a rubber spatula is my best friend because if it's all measured before cooking, I get my portion of ALL of it. I could even lick my plate if no one was watching. I never put serving bowls on the table, it's all plated in the kitchen like a restaurant. No seconds, it isn't that long until the next meal.

When dealing with doctors or lawyers, I believe in telling them everything and letting them pick out the pieces they need to solve a puzzle. No one test or incident can give them the whole story. I think we tend to be more honest with lawyers because there isn't any insurance, we are paying for every minute. In a court case, reality is whatever you can convince a jury it is. In politics, reality is whatever a politician can convince you it is. In medicine, it's whatever really is.

Nell,

Can the neurologist do tests on your DH and KNOW the truth for himself? My neurologist does that with me. Of course I give him the entire scoop on me and then he doesn't believe me and so the tests come and they prove what I had said is correct.

I do want to be a more rigid portion controller, but I'm not sure how to do that. Do you have any hints, Nell?

Blaze,

emoticon and emoticon for getting your run in! I would feel more than pretty well about 4.5 miles! YIKES, that's MAJOR! When you have a cut on the knuckle or any joint area, it's tough. I pray it heals QUICKLY!

You did well, with getting tracked what you did, with taking care of your dad. It's hard sometimes taking care of anybody, but when it's your mom and dad, it just does something to you.

I'm glad that your rain cleared up. We're still have drizzles here, and it's in the 60s, which is your cold snap, and I'm loving it!

Diane,

That's a smart move seeing your doctor, before you go on vacation. I want you to have the BEST TIME, and that means you should be in optimum health. Go and get that good report from your doctor.

YEAH! You've already started with the packing, sort of. It doesn't matter that it's random stuff on the suitcase. You've got it out there. Another smart move, working extra and getting things done, so you can have a short Friday.

Kellie,

Hold on to that HOPE, as He will get you through anything and everything! Thank you for giving the gift of life, in giving your blood. They will no longer allow me to give blood, as I was stationed in Germany when mad cow disease broke out. I don't have that disease, but because I was in the area, some 25 years ago, my name was put on the DO NOT DONATE list. It's been 25 years, I would think that they would make an allowance. Oh well.

Donna,

You have a GRAND day too, no matter where you go and what you're doing!

Sunny,

I hope you had a WONDERFUL vacation and 5 lbs. to take off after 3 weeks, that's not bad! You're learning and you're getting there.

Blessings!

Sitting at JFK ready to get on a plane to go back to LA after 3weeks of traveling. Did a lot of walking and tried to watch the eating but there are at least 5 pounds to come off. Roctober. What a great cheer

Hey all! emoticon to your son Toni. How exciting!

Nell, my mom lied to her doctors for years. I know how frustrating that can be.

Two more days to get all this project stuff to a go-live status and it's not looking good but there's a chance. I'm holding on to hope. emoticon

I have a blood donation appointment here at work shortly. Just ate my total raisin bran, drinking some water and now I feel TOM is about to start. We'll see how this goes.

Good morning everyone -

Boy do I sympathize with those with sleep issues. I slept VERY poorly Sunday and Monday nights, but finally got a decent night's sleep last night. 6 hours, 40 minutes according to Fitbit, and it was good deep sleep, and fewer trips to the loo. I'm still feeling a bit off, so will call the Dr. today to see if I can get an appointment before we head out on vacation.

Work has been really busy, so I've already put in some extra hours this week. I don't mind, because I'll be able to work a shorter day on Friday to get all our hiking stuff sorted out for the trip. Right now it's just random stuff thrown on top of our suitcases:).

Tortoise, the ski instructor job sounds fab! I love the outdoors, so sometimes wonder how I ended up at a desk job in IT:). I do enjoy my job, though, so I can't complain.

I hope everyone has a great day,
-- Diane

Happy Hump Day! Long day in the works. Rain has cleared up for the moment and now waiting for the cold front that is supposed to come through tomorrow. Lows in the 60s are what constitutes a "cold snap" this time of year, but any reduction of humidity will be much appreciated.

Nancy - Thanks for the support!

Got my run in yesterday of 4.5 miles. Did pretty well, so I feel good about that. Finger is still very sore and wrapped so that I can't bend it as my cut is right on the knuckle. So not sure what I will do tonight. But something.

Ended up eating under calories (as in 1200) yesterday. I'm an evening snacker, so I tend to save some for then. But by the time that I had dinner and checked in with my dad (who is dealing with some ongoing health issues - nothing major, but he just can't seem to get on track), I didn't track and fell short. Rare occurrence, so no worries, but something to watch on busy nights.

Hope that everyone has a good one!

Toni, congrats to your son!

Today is a doctor day, my husband to the neurologist this morning, my mother to the doc this afternoon. The morning appt will be hard. My husband wants doctors to think he is perfect and doesn't want them to know he falls at night. He lied to his doc for 10 years, resulting in 3 strokes, which he blames on me, of course. It will be a long day.

I am a rigid portion controller all year long. Winter is no different from summer in that regard. My kitchen scale goes through batteries many times a year.

Maree,

WOW, what an early start for you today! Pecan encrusted halibut sounds so YUMMY! I must get my nephew to make me that dish. It sounds like it would help my cravings for sweets.

Toni,

emoticon for your son's success in getting the job he was looking for!

Yes, girl, I'm concerned about the cooler months and have an angst about wanting to eat more for comfort and I sure do need to practice PORTION CONTROL!

Bess,

I've been through the skinny jean challenge and you'll LOVE it. Well, at least I LOVED it!

I had such wonderful sleep last night, and I'm glad it's cooled off. I have the windows open, no air on, and I believe that's why I'm sleeping so much better. I usually get about 3 to 4 hours a night, no matter what time I go to bed, but now I'm getting 6 to 8 hours and it's so WONDERFUL!

Blessings!

Pecan crusted fish! Oh Maree - that just sounds wonderful. I make one with pistachios but I bet pecans are just as good. Hmmm. might rethink dinner tonight. But I have a great turkey kielbasas sausage dish I had planned .... well. Toni - with a YAY shout out for your son - I WILL keep portion control in mind, even for the lean dishes. I still have travel pounds lingering. In fact, I just reset my ticker and my goal to a one month goal. baby steps. And tomorrow I start my Sparkpeople challenge - the 30 day skinny jean one.

I'd arranged to take Friday off and hook up with my sister but I am wondering now if we might want to wait a week. It's just rain coming but maybe some high winds ... I hate to drive in wind. I slept really late this a.m. and have to be at work early - ain't that just the way things happen? Wishing all of you the best hump day of all.

Good morning!

Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes my way for my son. He just got the job he was after teaching skiing at Vail in Colorado this coming winter. He is an outdoors man and instruction is a great entry job for someone getting involved in the industry. So he's thrilled, as are we. We celebrated at a local oyster bar resaurant last night. Fun and happy.

Meanwhile, busy day ahead. Wishing everyone a good day in Sparkland. I don't know about you, but I'm thinking seriously about portion control as we wind into the cooler days of Fall and the heavier foods of the season.

Good morning!

Quick check-in as I am going to the 5 am crossfit class this morning because I need to be on the road at 7:15. We had a party at work yesterday for a gal who is getting married. Lots of treats and cake. I enjoyed several but glad I won't be tempted today! DH made me pecan encrusted halibut last night and I have leftovers for lunch today. Yum!

Hope rain falls where it's needed and stops where it isn't! And that all have a great day!!
