Working downtown today, so this is my first chance to check in with y'all. I won't have any trouble getting my steps in today. Just ate a Subway Turkey & Guacamole sandwich on wheat for lunch; looking forward to BBQ dinner.

Busy day, ate lots of vegs, calories in range, not enough walking. POURING rain here. But met up with friends, and had a great time.

The new dishwasher was installed this morning, I'll run it for the first time tomorrow night. We ate at Cracker Barrel for our regular monthly meeting, the only time I enter a restaurant each month. I fear salt backlash on the scale tomorrow morning.

I'm back from Cracker Barrel for the monthly motorcycle club meeting. It's the only restaurant I go to in a month and I always have the same thing: two eggs, bacon and one biscuit. I wish I could bring myself to eat the chicken fried steak (which I love) but I just can't. I miss the days when I could eat more and still stay thin. Getting old sucks.

Didn't have time to check in this morning. Had to leave the house at 6:45 to have my niece to the big city for an all-day training (again!) This time, though, I left the car parked in the Goodwill parking lot all day, and used the stroller and my legs A LOT! Should've worn a pedometer, but I bet I walked 3 hours, at least. Took the two-year-old down to the river, to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, across a bridge, up and down both sides of the river, and to the 12th floor of the building my son works in. Had a quick lunch with him there. It was a fun day, and I feel good, just my feet hurt. (I was afraid it was going to rain, so didn't wear my tennis shoes--now I wish I would have, since it didn't rain a drop.)

I do hate to see summer fading. The thistles are blooming here now and that means before long leaves will be falling and winter will set in, and honestly that's my least favorite time of year for all sorts of reasons. In the meantime, we'll try to make the very best of the decent weather that remains.

I've been dealing with a foot injury that put a damper on my cardio. Have been compensating with more resistance and some adjustments to inputs and macronutrients.

Lots of complications this last month to potentially tangle up maintenance. All in all, we've done pretty well. Like to keep in mind, letting my health slide will do me no favors. Sometimes maintenance seems like a battle of priorities. If I'm thinking clearly, it's one I do my level best to place at the front.

Find a very good reason to make the right decisions every day.

Late checkin for me as well. I had my final PT appt. this morning, and just need to keep after my neck exercises to keep myself in working order:). it's been pretty busy at work, so I'm just gettting a bit of a breather.

I've got to work downtown tomorrow, so I'll get lots of metro steps in. Then, DH and are going to King Street Blues for BBQ dinner. He's been there before, but I haven't. So, I'll need to eat lightly during the day to allow for a bit of corn bread:).

I'm so happy September is here!

I love Erma Bombeck's books. Still remember laughing so hard I couldn't breathe when I discovered her books as a teenager.

I'm going to swing kettlebells today. I may weigh more than I did this time last year, but I'm a lot stronger too. The Fitness Blender video "Kettlebells till you drop" used to wipe me out using a 20 lb bell. Now I use a 25 or 30 lb bell and still need to do another video afterwards to feel like I got a good workout.

I LOVED Erma Bombeck. I was a teenager when I first got into her. I wished I could have met her. had some heart to hearts and some laughs!

Birthday hugs Bess. It's my birthday month too as well as DH. It's the big one for both of us. So glad I'm hitting this milestone a lot healthier than I thought I'd be. When I think of my mom at this age.... ugh. Sad.

Anyhoozer. Good night at yoga. She keeps making it challenging and I love it! Rest day today outside of some walks and combo exercises.

Tomorrow night is lap running around a park alternating with strength moves with my running group.

Terrific Tuesday wishes all around!

Wow it's September! In our county, the kids don't go back to school until next Tuesday, so this is the last week of not having to share the road with school buses or slow down for school zones. And after a beautiful, dry week with the windows open, the heat and humidity is back.

Mandy, I sure do remember Erma Bombeck. The life of the housewife that she wrote about is an artifact of our generation. My sons all share equally in the household work, including cooking. I try to keep meals simple, but sometimes I actually LIKE to do something more complicated. The important word is "sometimes". Do you remember Peg Bracken's "I Hate To Cook Book"? It's funny to pull it out and remember how few prepared foods and ingredients were available back then. Grocery stores back then were about a quarter of the size they are now, and the increase is almost entirely in processed food. Nothing in that increase is available to me if I want to maintain my weight.

Happy September! We're in busy season at work, but Fall is my favorite time of year, so lots of competing interests.

Bells last night. Tracked as circuit training as it is more cardio than normal ST and the calorie estimate for circuit at around 450 from 45 minutes is more accurate than the 900 45 minutes of kettlebell training would have been. Run tonight. Getting back in the mindset after last week and all of the day long events that had me falling into bed.

Best wishes to all!

Good Morning maintainers - Welcome to September! I seriously heart September because that's my birthday month and I like to celebrate all month long. That it coincides with cooler weather, fall clothes, different vegetables in the markets, school starting up and oh all those harvest type activities just makes it feel all the more fun.

Maree - who'da thought you'd still be "in school" at this stage of life? But learning is always exciting and I am sure you'll do splendidly on your test. Yes yes, Mandy, I remember Erma Bombeck - made me laugh all the time. I particularly remember her saying if you want to impress your husband with your cooking, put an onion in the oven before he comes home.

I almost never get exercise on Tuesdays - they've turned into my de facto rest day but today I'm going to squeeze in an early morning walk with the pups.

Mandy and Linda, I so agree, simple is best. As much as I like cooking just cooking in a healthy easy way works so well. Thanks for the reminder. Toni

You are so right simple food is the best. I like chicken with a salad for dinner. My worst time is going out to eat. It is fatty food and I do take half home. I had a burger but it comes with fries. I try to skip them. I may eat them once a year. I try to stay away from that kind of food. Linda from bean town

Do any of you remember Erma Bombeck, the humor columnist? She claimed that in her adult life she had lost 728 pounds and by rights should have been hanging on someone's charm bracelet. That's me. After battling the 15 pounds I gained over the first six months of the year due to a tiresome series of ailments and injuries, I'm back to my fighting weight. On me, 15 pounds is almost two full clothing sizes so I'm feeling: (A) pretty pleased to be back in my right size in only 10 weeks; (B) apprehensive that I'm merely in another phase of a never rending cycle.

One change this time around is that I'm really settling into a low-carb/high-protein lifestyle, which seems to fit my food preferences. And I've realized lately that I'm very, VERY, tired of thinking about food and meal plans. DH has simple tastes and a high tolerance for routine so there's no reason I should act as though I'm auditioning for one of those Food Channel competitions. Just grill the darned chicken and be done with it, already.

Will run once the sun comes up. Then some kind of different activity later in the day.

Feels like back to school to day with September starting (ta da!) and I'm going to the gym with my friend this morning. She is back from vacation.

So off I do. Hope all is well with everyone. I need some Fall goals. Will be noodling them today.

Good morning!

New month! Good to hear about the challenges and maintenance techniques fellow maintainers are using to keep lost weight off and battle "the creep".

I have a 2.5 hr certification challenge at work today. Practice sessions have gone well so I feel fairly confident. It will be good to get it behind me. The promotion brings more training, more changes. Change means stress and stress means easy weight gain for me. So heightened vigilance of what I put in my mouth is necessary. A day at a time.

90 min of cardio and crossfit this morning. Healthy lunch to pack.

Hope those with ailments feel better soon and that all have a great day!
