MaryAlice - Since Duke likes SKUNKS, you might enjoy 2 blogs I wrote several years ago on that subject... First was "A Sad Sorry Tail" from July 2012, and the 2nd one was called " Twp for the Tub and the little one said... NOT AGAIN!" and is from August 2012

You have to read them in that order though, or they don't quite make sense... emoticon emoticon

Taste of the Wild is what I gave my dogs before until they couldn't eat kibble. When I first got Cassie I got that for her, too, but I can't afford it any more. The Weruva was all the Pet Food Pantry had last month at the one I go to. I will see what I can get from Tractor Supply Sunday. Their brand is made by TOTW with the difference is it has more vegetables. It's ranked 4 stars.

I saw more skunks when I lived in a subdivision and walked in the morning then I do out in the country. Maybe because out here there are no streetlights so I don't see them. I don't know why but Duke has never been hit by a skunk. I can tell he has been close to one or rolled in a trail. I know he has caught one because he leaves the caress on the back steps. Just what you want when you open the back door.

Ugh. MaryAlice, tell Duke that skunks aren't fun to play with and he will have to have more baths if he plays with those.

We have had several skunks in the area test positive for rabies. I think that they are the only things around that do except for some bats and haven't heard of them having it this year. Some of those skunks were in the middle of the city (one about 3 miles from me). I have been told we have skunks in my neighborhood too, but I haven't seen any sign of them. When I smell something similar it usually is the cat nip growing outside. Thankful of that.

I don't know what all my vet gives my dogs. She did tell me once because I live in the country my dogs needed more then city dogs. When I told her the dogs liked to play tug of war with possums she said she was already giving them the vaccine for the things possums carry. When I told her my last visit that Duke had taken a liking to skunk, she said it was a good thing they had every coverage she could give them.

What I am wondering about is Cassie has lost 10 pounds since she was spayed and I haven't been trying that hard to get her to lose, though I did try for a while because she was a little overweight then. Guess she will have to eat more so she doesn't lose more. He said she was at a good weight. Now she is the lightest weight of all the ACDs I have had.

Cassie is also one who will eat just about anything she finds. Maybe why she got sick a couple weeks ago. Or maybe it was just that she got that grass caught in her throat. She eats it constantly.

Glad Cassie is OK, Darlene!

Arwen and Brinx always get the Lepto vaccine with their regular shots - Phoenix doesn't need it. Arwen will ingest anything she finds and thinks edible - dead, rotting, nasty or otherwise, and Brinx will drink from any water he finds - like a puddle or wet spot in the yard. That's why they get the Lepto shot, at the vet's suggestion because of the number of raccoons, skunks, and other stuff we have in our area.

Phoenix knows that all those things are disgusting habits, and good lad that he is, has never followed their bad examples!!

Cassie had her appointment today, so I did ask the vet about it. He said they could be causing the loose stools, but don't usually.

MaryAlice, Cassie did that with a bag of rice one day. That doesn't do much to help the gut.

Jeanne, the Furry Scurry is just at one of the city parks, not at a dog park. I think it is a 5K walk. It wore me out so bad I don't think I will go again. Of course, by next year I will have forgotten that. I didn't even do the 5K, just went and checked out the booths.

Dr. Herman said that with the wild animals moving into the city more, Lepto is on the rise,, so Cassie had to have 2 vaccines today. Poor baby. Since we have foxes in the neighborhood, it is a good idea. That is the one thing he said they were carrying when they were living under my patio.

Mutt got hold of a 1 pound bag of lentils and eat the whole thing. I called the vet. She said that lentils were high in fiber and would have no long term effect but just like with people sometimes caused loose stools till you get use to it.

PS ye pooped lentils foe several days

You can give her Pure Pumpkin to help firm her up. I would be real careful with the dog parks. I have had friends who took their dogs to the dog park, and there dog picked up something. He too had runny stools.

Has anyone here fed the foods that are made with lentils or stuff like that? I got some Weruva from the Pet Food Pantry last month and just started feeding it. I have never had problems with switching food for her, but this time she got really loose stools (made for easy pick up at the Furry Scurry in the park yesterday). She hasn't gotten back to normal yet, but I managed to get her a small bag of a different dog food yesterday. Next week when I go for the horse feed I will get her some 4 Health.

I don't know if peas would do the same thing as lentils or not. It's just suspicion on my point, but I've never fed her something with lentils before. I hope it clears up by tomorrow since she is past due for her rabies vaccine, we have had rabid skunks just a few miles from here, and her appointment is tomorrow for that.
