I just read about something on Facebook that is a Gagging Disorder or Choking Disorder. The description is what Cassie seems to get, though hers is mainly after cleaning up after Orzo. Hadn't seen it in a while because he hasn't been throwing up as much. Anyway, the dogs start gagging and throwing up, then they will eat everything in sight or lick the carpets, things like that. I marked the page that has people talking about it, but there hasn't been anything on there since I marked (liked) it. I managed to get Cassie to stop the carpet licking by just getting after her each time and she quit the gagging.

Has anyone here ever had that disorder show up?

She seems to do it all over whenever the cat throws up. She will only pick up any food that spills on the carpet otherwise, not keep licking it.

Darlene, dogs are just plain crazy sometimes! At least there are times when I'm pretty sure mine are all insane... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kathy, that is what Cassie does, but then she keeps licking the carpet and rugs like she thinks that will help stop her choking. I have an awful time trying to convince her it doesn't work that way.

Sorry Darlene, I'm no help with this one.

Generally speaking the only time any of my guys ever lick the carpet is when something tasty has landed there, and once it's all cleaned up none of them are interested in that spot anymore. It's usually just the one who was closest to whatever was spilled or dropped.

They all also gag on the hair they suck up while liking the carpet - and usually are nice about throwing up a big hairball just to complete the whole process/

Eli and Emma do it too. Very frustrating.

Wish I knew. Mutt licks the carpet for no apparent reason and I have been trying to get him to stop for 7 years.

Can anyone tell me how to get a dog to quit cleaning the carpet? Cassie was cleaning up after the cat the last couple of days when he got sick on the food he was eating, then continued cleaning the carpet in other areas. Then she kept getting sick because she got hair in her throat and stomach. She has finally stopped today, but it happens about every time Orzo gets sick. Fortunately he doesn't get sick too often with the one food, so I will trade with a friend to get what he can eat.
