Yes, I may have to confine our dogs when the fireworks begin. Hate that now.

Henley is so scared of fire works. I feel for the dogs.

I dread Nrw Years Eve because several of our neighbors set off fireworks. There are missing dogs still because of July 4th

I'm glad the Thunder Shirt works. It's kind of funny. We have 4 Muscovy Ducks, and they were fine. This year Sarge was upset. He is 12 yrs. now, so I guess he is changing. I put him back with Henley, and that helped somewhat.

Our little Ricky gets so cared. We invested in the "Thunder shirt". Oh my goodness, it works. could not believe it. Good investment.

Henley is our sensitive boy. He wants to be in his crate when the noise starts up. I turn on the TV to distract him, and that seems to work for him. Henley takes medication for his Allergies, so since the crate works for him I probably won't go with the calming aids. I will ask the Vet next year though. If it doesn't clash with his pills, then it might not be a bad idea to give it to him for a couple of days. There is always one house who has to start ahead of time with fireworks.
Thanks for the article!

Sadie is afraid of Thunderstorms and Fireworks. Will put her in her thundershirt and give her an over the counter pill to relax tonight. And keep close to her - mommy is the best comfort.

Thanks for the article. My dog is afraid of thunderstorms (somewhat) but not afraid of fireworks.

If a storm hits when I'm here I shut the window in her favorite room and turn on the tv and/or fan to lesson the noise. She seems okay then.

Our Jack Russell, Zoey, doesn't like thunder, loud noises and certainly not fireworks. I put her Thundercoat on her and that helps.

Wow, I guess I am pretty lucky. We live on a highway so there are a lot of sirens and people noise all day long. When Daisy hears a siren she runs to the window to see what's going on. Last night someone was shooting off fireworks pretty near to us and she just wanted to look out the window to see if she could find the noise!

Neither dog pays much attention to storms, Mutt gets out of the rain and Duke plays in the puddles. With Fire crackers, Mutt curls up in the back of his crate, nothing bad, just doesn't like fireworks. Duke races around the back yard. I'm not sure if he is trying to catch them or make sure they don't land in the yard. I brought him in last night and he about knocked the door down to get out.

We have two dogs we rescued in Mexico and they are both very afraid of storms. What we finally did was attach them to a post in the basement so they would leave us alone. We were surprised how they do calm down there and when the storm is over I go and let them loose and all is well.

I just found this Team today, and found the article referenced extremely interesting.

We have an Irish Red and White Setter who is not in the least bit gun shy, and not afraid of thunder, but fireworks make her quiver all over in fear. Thursday we heard a lot of fireworks set off by a neighbor. She just sat at my feet and shook, and eventually hopped into my lap while allowing me to hug her close. I knew it was serious when she allowed the hugging. I'm not looking forward to this evening...she doesn't like the fireworks she hears on tv either. Her crate is always available to her, and she'll curl up in a corner of it, but Thursday was the first time her reaction was so strong. One of the neighbors sets off fireworks that sound like cannon fire, and those really scare me because they're always set off at unexpected times...usually after dark and not when other people are "exploding" things.

I was just wondering if anyone else has a dog that has no problem with gun fire or thunder but is scared by fireworks. (Needless to say, we have never taken her anywhere near a fireworks display, but we all know how well the sounds carry). I'm just glad there are but a few times during the year when fireworks are set off (and we seem to have a LOT of people using them in our town even though individuals are not supposed to...I think that's pretty common everywhere.)

Hope this is okay. Found a thorough article with resources for dealing with fireworks and/or thunderstorm sensitivity in dogs. Excellent info in the links at the end of article too.

I can vouch for the use of Melatonin for our little Mini Aussie & a friend's Westie. I've only used Natrol brand, but that & a chew treat definitely helped. Some friends with agility dogs can use it & still run trials; it doesn't sedate, just help with noise sensitivity. Always check with your vet before using meds or homeopathics.

Keep ID on the furkids& have a safe, fun holiday! emoticon
