depending on how long we are going to be gone for we leave on the radio or the TV and a light at night...my parents always left a light on at night even when we didn't have a dog so I always do too

We leave the TV on when we leave Weaver in the house alone and if it is dark or going to be dark before we get home we leave a light on also.

I definitely leave a light on when I think I'll be back after dark.

I never thought about whether or not it's for me or my dogs though.

Lights on in a couple of different rooms & on timers so they'll vary. We have big windows for natural light, but with the short days, we need the lights. One is full spectrum, a handl-me-down from our parrot. emoticon

A radio too, just for company. They have a night light at night even when I'm home. If they could work the keyboard, they'd probably have their own computer!

Mali is going blind, so we leave the laundry room light on for her so she can find her way out to the backyard to relieve herself emoticon

We have a dog door that fits in our sliding glass door (meaning for long vacations etc you can remove it and put it back). Cole is always going in and out, so I don't leave the lights on for him as many times I'm coming home to find him in our backyard in natural light.

I always leave a light on for Oreo and the TV on for her to watch when we leave and the kitchen light on when I feed her. I wouldn't want to be left at home with nothing left on or try to eat in the dark, so I figure she wouldn't either emoticon

99 percent of the time there is always someone home here, but I have been known to leave the TV on sometimes when we have to all go out to simulate the sound of people at home, mind you this was when Maggs was still alive. She was a very needy dog who didn't like to be on her own, she calmed down quite a lot when we got her and the other dogs helped a bit as well.

We leave the light on in the room they are in and the TV on for noise control. Our homes are close together and they do bark at sounds they hear. The TV gives them competition.

The only times we've ever left a light on for one of the dogs have been when we've had a new litter on the ground, or if someone is recovering from an injury or surgery , and in both those cases the light has been more to make things easier for the humans than for the dog itself.

Nowadays, we only leave a light on in the living room if we're not going to be home before dark and again that's just so that we can see when we come in the door and not go flying over our welcoming committee and their wagging tails! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'd never really thought of that but I am home all day and they get out the same amount I do. When we leave them they just sleep so I've never left the lights on.

Dogs need daylight and sunshine, just like people, to have normal energy levels. If you live in a dark basement apartment leave the lights on and use daylight-type light bulbs. If not and there is sunshine coming in the window don't worry about it.
At night it is not necessary to leave lights on if it's dark outside.

no I don't leave the lights on for Buddy, but mostly because he sleeps all day when we don't take him with us.

I leave on the kitchen light if I leave the house when it is dark OR I know I am not going to be home before it gets dark again.

Am I being wasteful, or just plain crazy? We leave a light on for our 3 year old lab. At first it was so our survailence camera could see him (and the kitchen counters), now we think it may keep him from sleeping all day.

Does anyone else do this?
