Well we may have strayed just a little from your original reason for starting this conversation, but..... I think it made us all crack a smile or two, laugh a little and perhaps even have the odd outright "guffaw" too.

After all, as Martha Stewart always said... laughter " IS a good thing "!

I agree, it was not your fault we got a little of course, I take a good part of the responsibility. emoticon

LoL .... the point of my post was *not* about Cisco's potty habits, but rather the startling observation that he learned a behavior from his CAT housemate!

you are right, if it works for make goats it will work on anything. emoticon
I've only had girl goats for that reason. I hope to have some dairy goats again some time.

I use a washing liquid we have over here called Biozet. Don't know if this is a brand over there, but it's an enzyme wash. If a smell still lingers you could also use Nilodor, I used to use this when we had goats, nothing has a stronger smell than a male buck goat, the Nilodor did a pretty good job

I read something about using mint mouthwash to get rid of the smells, too. Haven't tried it yet and can't remember exactly what it called for, though. I think it was soak with the mouthwash with newspaper over it (the paper to soak it up as it draws out the smell). I don't remember if you use vinegar after or not.

I did not know that bleach does that but know that ammonia will. Bleach is far too toxic anyhow, an enzyme-based cleaner is safe and effective. Alternatively vinegar will work pretty well, too.

Yeah and don't use chlorine based bleach it just accentuates the smell.

The smell tells them. That's why they will repeat going in a spot where they went before, canine logic. This is why we need to get 100% of the smell out of areas of previous accidents with enzyme-based cleaners. It's like a big sign that says "toilet here".

I haven't had a dog dig a hole and bury his leavings yet, but Venture used to run downstairs to use the cat's litter box when he got up in the mornings. I don't know how he learned to do that because April hated the pups so I don't think she was around using the litter when he was around and Mom didn't use the box

Yes, it is kind of weird how important our animals' toileting habits are. emoticon For example during last night Chica our little white poodle/terrier got me up 5 times (a new record) wanting to go outside. emoticon emoticon It is very cold arctic emoticon emoticon conditions here so she wants back in in 10 minutes. When I took both dogs for a walk this morning emoticon I saw she has bad diarrhea. Now that is important for my personal well being not to get woken up constantly. I don't know about the rest of you but it is hard enough to get a good night's sleep already so I do not need a little dog whining and pawing at me. But it was my fault this happened. Yesterday I fed her some older yogurt and she obviously did not tolerate it well. Never again!!!!

Now that we've got more responses I'm starting to really enjoy this, LOL, all of us quite thrilled talking about dogs' toilet habits. Non-dog owners must think we're all nuts.

Come to think of it, my dogs sometimes give me this look like they are wondering why I care so much about their poop habits. emoticon

What a clever fellow - just goes to show how smart our four legged friends can be!

My Lucky used to back up to one of our raised planters and leave a gift for us either on the edge of the wood, or right in the planter itself. In all my 30+ years with Rough Collies I've never seen one do this as a regular thing, until Lucky, but our 'young' (almost 7 year old) guy Brinx does the same thing. since he's almost exactly the same markings and colour as Lucky was, we joke that it's a "little red dog thing". It woudl be nice if one of the 2 boys had been able to get the other beasties here to do the same thing!

I agree with Birgit, how clever of him to try and do this. Definitely praise him to keep him doing it (as long as he's not digging in your roses etc).

What a clever dog!!

I truly believe that animals are here to cheer us o teach us that the simple things in life can be priceless and also to cheer us up when we are sad and entertain us when we are lonely animals are precious whether it be a dog ,cat or gerbil, or parakeet

there is light in the dark and hope for the believer and failing once shows you are only human and trying again shows you are determined

Last night I caught my cat Carmen playing with one of Abe's tennis balls at the same time that he saw her... and off they went chasing each other around the house. :)

Cisco, our Great Pyrenees, apparently watched our cat Casanova digging at the ground to make & then cover up his "business".

Lo and behold, Cisco has been engaging in this behavior for several months now although he doesn't do it every time. Cisco will "take a leak" and then use his nose to try & push dirt over it. He will do this like 4, 5, or 6 times & then walk away with the silliest grin

We haven't been able to capture this on video yet but I'm hoping we can at some point.
