Yeah, I decided to leave them at home and make my runs some "me" time. They still get their opportunity to exercise and sniff the world, just not when I'm training.

I am leaning towards saying to leave them home. The reason is that for dogs the whole point of going for a walk/run is to use their nose and follow scent trails. Smell is their primary sense. Imagine going to a movie theater with a great movie playing and being asked not to look, it just does not make sense. The other way to go is to run with your dogs but to let them decide where to go, when to stop, when to run.

They may be able to be trained slowly like you are going to be trained, but I would do it one at a time. Leash manners will be first on the list.

Hey, everyone,

I have two pooches, a shepherd/husky cross and a goldendoodle. They both love their exercise, and since I'll be starting a Couch to 5k program in the next day or two, I would love to be able to take one of them (taking both would be challenging) with me when I run. My problem is that they're both easily distracted. Squirrels, interesting smells, other people, they love to explore and aren't great at staying focussed. Any suggestions on how to keep them on track?

Thanks!
