How is everyone doing with your breathing issues and the current virus situation? Hope you are staying home as much as possible and taking care of yourself. I am blessed to have a daughter who picks up groceries and prescriptions for me and as all activities and planned events have been cancelled, am staying in the house or in the yard

Took two rounds of the prednisone and antibiotics to get to feeling good again. Now back to the part time job and day to day activities. Did lose 8 pounds while down and out. Hope they don’t find their way back!

The holidays are over and it is back to the normal day to day activities. Finally got the tree down yesterday and still have other decorations to store away for another year. Got a new computer for Christmas so maybe I can be more active as a lot of Spark I couldn't get with my phone app.
It is a new year and time to revise and make new goals. My main goal is to be more consistent with exercise as I have discovered the more I do the more I can do.
I have joined a couple of COPD sites on Facebook and will try to pass on some of the tips that others find that helps them with living with breathing issues.
My main issue now is with eating. I can eat just a little bit and feel too full plus find it hard to breathe. Need to find foods that will eliminate this plus work on eating slower.
Have and easy breathing day.

I also use oxygen 24/7 and I walk in the house. I have a major problem with mucus plugs and so don't like to get to far from home in case I have one come up. I need to sit and work on it to get it out,. They can be very scary and stressful. I have some chair exercises and just found I can access you tube on my tv and so can get a bunch of free videos to work out with. I will try one today after I get some walking and cleaning done. I don't drive so going out to rehab is not easy for me to do. I agree that it is one day at a time.

Hi Sharon, so glad to hear from you. Cold weather bothers me too. Wearing a scarf around my nose and mouth helps a little bit. Someone recommended a ski mask but haven’t tried it yet. I wear oxygen 24/7 so I try to walk for exercise usually on a treadmill at the community center here in town. Also do strength/flexibility body weight exercise and some chair exercises. I have found the more I move the more I can do. Had heart surgery this past April and the cardiac rehab also helped. One day at a time!

Hi, I guess I never looked for a chat for this group and have been a member for quiet sometime. I have COPD so breathing problems is the norm for me. What do you do for exercise routines with your shortness of breath. Is there any specific limitations you have. Oh, my name is Sharon and I live in MN where weather plays a big part of my breathing also.

Good afternoon! Time again to start thinking about that flu shot. Plan to get one next week. I have been away from the team for awhile but was browsing teams today and decided to see how everyone is doing with the COPD and/or Asthma. I am still kicking. On oxygen 24/7 @ 2 liters when resting and 3 with activity. This past year has been a replacing body parts year. 2 stents and an Aorta valve replacement in April and Cataract surgery in August. Still trying to eat those fruits and vegetables and have a new challenge of 250 steps per hour for 12 hours each day. Keep on thinking positive!

I do get a flu shot every year. After having suffered an exacerbated episode (even though I quit smoking Sept. 1, 2016) before this last Thanksgiving (2017), the last thing I want to go through is full blown flu. It seems our immune systems aren't equipped to keep us safe from flu and everything else in the environment that's attacking.
Hope you are doing well and breathing well, too!

Back to the team after a long absence. Got hooked on the 5% challenges for awhile but then life got in the way, so back to some of my old teams. Still doing well with COPD but have added heart issues to the mix. Recently purchased a portable oxygen concentrator as I like to get out and go and the tanks were just to heavy to manage well. Got an Inogen One G3 and really like it. Kinda expensive and a little loud but lightweight and can charge up anywhere including the car. According to my doctors, I must get serious about losing weight and exercising, so here goes.

Wheel has been good to our team. Got 50 points yesterday and 20 points today. How is everyone doing with the breathing? We in Missouri have been having beautiful weather for this time of the year and breathing has been good. That is to change this weekend with our first freeze coming up. Guess it was too good to last! Have a great day.

My wife and I just returned from a nice visit with my Brother and SIL, that lives in Eastern Oklahoma. One afternoon while sitting in their living room we watched a Black Bobcat go across the front yard. Their home is about two miles out in the country from the nearest small town and though there is a wide variety of wildlife on their property, this is a first for all of us. My brother and I were raised only 1/4 mile from where we saw it and had never heard of one, so we talked to the local game ranger the next day and he told us there had been sightings over the last couple of years in that county and that an even more rare sighting is an occasional albino Bobcat. My SIL had seen two house cat sized black kittens wrestling in their driveway earlier this spring and in hindsight was probably the Bobcats, that are now full sized.

We were lucky and didn't lose our power. Losts of thunder and lightning. Thank goodness the basement stayed dry too. Graduation for granddaughter was last evening and today was the grad party. She will be staying home during the summer to work and save for the trip to Alabama and college in August. Hard to believe she is so grown up. On her old laptop now as she got a new Macbook Pro for her graduation present to see her through her college years (hopefully). Lost my Sparktracker for the second time so won't be counting steps for awhile. Don't plan on buying another tracker as I keep losing them. Will just be counting the minutes of my workouts. The humidity has made my breathing labored too.

Have a great week everyone.

Hello all! Everyone must be busy bees this month of May. My computer at home is on the blink so have to rely on my phone or the office computer to communicate.

I can understand on getting enough potassium, Irene. When I was caring for Tony after his heart surgery it was a struggle to get potassium down him as he refused to take the potassium tablets the doctor prescribed. Finally got him to drink smoothies after I went to the store and bought a Ninja Nutri-Bullet machine. Got yogurt, bananas and even some green veggies down him that way and a good report from his doctor!

Hope to see you and Darrel at the Theater in the Park and Concerts headed to Memorial Park this summer!

Busy week ahead with scholarships/awards night on Wednesday and graduation on Saturday and then a graduation party on Sunday. Soon granddaughter will be headed to Troy University in Alabama.

Wishing everyone a great day.

Hi all!. Yesterday I did not make it to Sedalia to watch my grand daughter in her recital. BooHoo! I knew I could not do a lot of walking and breath at the same in this damp weather. I am feeling much better today with the sun shining. WooHoo!

Linda, like you, when I'm feeling better, I don't remember to use my inhaler. I always do my morning and night Advair, but forget my Spiriva. I am on so many drugs for my heart and cholesterol. It is such a drag to always be taking meds.

When I'm feeling and breathing better I do chair exercises and walking thru the house just to get my steps in for the day. I used to go to our lake property every weekend and walk over 10,000 steps while fishing. I hope to get better as the weather get's better. Eating better seems to help a lot also. Easting a low salt diet is really hard and trying to get in enough potassium is hard for me.

Have a Great Day and keep moving as much as possible.

That's great that you are doing the chair exercises. Any movement is good. I'm sorry you are having such a bad time but it will get better. Have you found what triggers your Asthma? I never had Asthma until last year when my current doctor diagnosed in addition with the COPD that I was diagnosed with in 2001. I think pulmonary rehab is what turned my condition around with the regular exercise and the education the offered on different methods of breathing plus how important proper nutrition & sleep were for our health issues. Sparkpeople has also helped. Probably another big help was following the doctors orders and setting my phone alarm as a reminder to use my inhalers and take my medications. There would be days I would get busy and forget to use my inhalers for maintenance and those were the times I would have problems. Just take it one day at a time!

Hi all,

Prednisone seems to be the only thing to wipe out the congestion for a short while but my allergist does not want me on that. I have a lot of coughing and congestion this weekend and sometimes I feel at wits end because I can't breathe well enough to really exercise.

Reading all your posts, about all your activities and wondering if I can do those things again.

This weekend I've been trying the DVDs of chair exercise programs and they are going well. But years ago I used to actually walk for hours and I want to do that again. My mind wants to go for a walk but my body won't let me.

I'm reading old posts hoping for some inspiration.

Monday was my Dr. appt.. Tuesday was our CCLA meeting. Today I did the food pick up and delivery for the elderly in my neighborhood. Tomorrow I'm going to Clinton to have lunch with my sister. Saturday I will be going to Sedalia to watch my grand daughter in a poem recital she wrote for a School contest. She came in first place for her school and is gong to District. WooHoo!

Made it to the community center on my lunch time today. I am really out of shape on cardio. Made it 10 minutes on the treadmill 1.8 MPH and a .5 incline. Should have upped the oxygen to 3 liter but didn't. Went to the bike and rode it for 10 minutes then left for the day. Hope to do better on Friday. Did learn how to get the bike screen off the TV and onto the "how are you doing" screen. Progress was made!

Told the Pulmonary clinic that next tuesday will be my last day with them. I will really miss them. They got me on the track, now its my turn to keep on the straight and narrow! It has been a 40 mile round trip twice a week since January and 30 dollars a week copay. The gym is 12 miles round trip and 0 dollars with my Silver Sneakers insurance.

Great job team. Go for it. I really need to get back to the gym myself. I had a Dr's appt yesterday and I have gained 7 lbs since my last visit. BooHoo! Thanks for the motivation. If you can do it I can do it.

Supposed to be a front coming in Thursday with wind and possible rain. Today is my workout day at the pulmonary clinic, so will try and get in a good burn today. I never know how I will feel on incoming storms. My wife and I will join our first gym this afternoon with Silver Sneakers and I asked if it was ok to drag O2 around with me and they said it was no problem as they already have a few members doing it. Never been a member of one, but so far most of my apprehensions have been for naught.

Good Monday morning everyone, it was a very gloomy, rainy weekend here. Sun is shining today with cool temperatures. Stopped by the community center this a.m. and visited with a friend who was in the lazy river. She is trying to get her strength back after a hospital stay. I asked about using the treadmill & bike with supplemental oxygen and they said, "sure". I was shocked as I didn't think I could there. Used it on the machines in pulmonary rehab but this being a public place figured they would frown on it. So, my goal is to go doing my lunch break 3X week and see if I can build this lung function up. Silver Sneakers will pay for it so won't have that expense and will save me purchasing a treadmill and bike.

Have a great week and stop by to let us know what's going on in your life.

In two years, if I took my wife for sushi (i love it) for our 50th, she would divorce me! Glad you had a great time...

I had a great Easter with the family. The weather was just beautiful. We had a very light lunch and just visited.

I'm glad you are still bowing Linda. Great exercise. Yesterday I took my first walk outside in long time. I walked over a mile thru the neighborhood. I as very tired when I got home so I took a short nap.

Sorry I can't help with the team, but I just don't have much time on the compute anymore. Summers are always busy for me as we go camping every weekend.

This Saturday is our 50th. Anniversary. Our daughter (Michelle) is taking us to a Japanese restaurant for dinner. It should be fun and filling.

Enjoy your week and keep active.

Good morning! Doing a little better with taking the medications although sometimes I get busy and hit "Dismiss" on the alarm button for my phone and then forget to do it. Must train myself to do it now rather than put off until later...on all things not just medication!!

New week and back to work after a relaxing Easter weekend. Enjoyed the kids for Easter Dinner. Had lots of leftovers so should be set up for a few days of non-cooking.

Tonight is bowling with the ladies. My last year of bowling as it's such a pain carrying the oxygen bottle and taking it off to bowl and then putting it back on until the next time. Will miss this fun time!

Still looking for a leader for this team if anyone would be interested. Randy may be back someday but for now he is having computer/internet issues and I can't seem to be as involved with the team as I would like. So let me know. Sure don't want to leave the team with no leader.

Have a great day.

My wife and I both have had calls and letters from UH and both being totally unorganized always had difficulties remembering to take pills especially. We finally got the pill boxes for daily use and she keeps hers in the medicine cabinet in a monthly box. I keep mine in weekly boxes at the breakfast table where I have oatmeal and coffee every morning. This has reduced our calls and letters by about 90% over the past year or so. We also stopped all the automatic prescriptions and order them the last week in each month (this is on the computer calendar with reminders) and it saves so many trips to the pharmacy each month... our pharmacy is about 20 miles one way, so this is a good cost savings as well.

Anyone else have their insurance company call them about not taking your medications as prescribed? Didn't realize the pharmacy & insurance company kept such close tabs on you! Course I know I sometimes get busy and forget to do an inhaler or take my blood pressure pill and need to stop doing it. The insurance company did have a good suggestion in setting the alarm on your cell phone, which I have done. Just wondered if anyone else had this experience.

Currently at my home away from home in Eldorado Springs, Mo. helping out Tony who is doing well after his heart surgery. We do have an appointment at the VA hospital in Kansas City to see his heart doctor so hoping for a good report so our lives can get back to normal. I did manage to go home for a few hours on last Friday while our daughter was here and updated my Spark Tracker and it brought me all up to date. Hope to be at my home full time by March 1, when he should be able to drive again.
Sparking is happening just not as much as usual. Have had to use my phone alot to Spark and a lot of the features I need are not available on that app. On my office computer now which I brought with me to do some reports for the office.
Oxygen has been an issue as each portable tank only holds 4 hours so have to plan travel times accordingly. I did bring the concentrator/refill with me so OK as long as I'm in the house. Got about 3 inches of snow last night and it is really cold. I think 18 degrees.
Have a great day and keep that Spark glowing!

Still in Columbia and will be through Monday. Then either to the VA hospital in Kansas City or Tony's home in Eldorado Springs. There has been improvements today. His vocal cords have improved and he is walking some. Will have another throat scope on Monday to see if the soft foods he is eating is going to the stomach or to the lungs. They have a fear of pneumonia still. He is in better spirits. I am still doing good. Had some family here yesterday and today so did rest better. Hope to be back to Sparking full time by mid Feburary. Miss my job and my home which I haven't seen since 1/29. Still wearing my SPAT each day but need to get home to my computer to download the data by the end of this week or will lose it all. Take care and keep thinking positive!

Hi all, in a motel room in Columbia, Mo. at present. Former hubby, has had heart surgery at the VA hospital here and I'm here with the kids and family. He has had a rough go and they were still not able to take the feeding tube out as a few minutes ago. They have him sedated to relax him and let his body heal. Hopefully the tube can be removed tomorrow. Will be here for another 5-7 days then will take him to his home in South Missouri and remain with him until he can care for himself. I have all my oxygen equipment and my bipap with me and am feeling stronger each day. Still have a couple days of pedisone to take but have finished the antibotics. Sparking will be spotty until I return home sometime between the middle of February to the end of February. Happy last day of January and have a great February.

Good Thursday morning everyone. Still very cold here in Missouri. I had skin cancer out patient surgery yesterday so working from home today. Surgery went well and they think they got all the cancer. Go back on the 16th of this month to get the stitches out. No exercise or lifting over 10 pounds for the next couple of day so really watching what I eat as I am stuck at home. Have a great day!

Just trying to stay warm. I started doing the Leslie Sansone "Walk away the pounds" today. It's just too cold to go to the gym.I can't walk as hard and fast as she does, but I'm moving my body. I walked for 12 min today. I hope to start a streak with the walking at home.

I had a lot of sneezing and congestion this morning, but doing better now.

Bundle up when you go out. Eat your veggies and drink your water.
