I'm a Sr. HR Data Analyst at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. I work from home full-time and live down in NC. I'm basically the catch all between HR and HRIS. Payroll verification, PeopleSoft administration, license verification, reporting to various agencies and internal divisions, policy administration, etc. It's a great position for a data-minded HR professional! I've been in this role for 10-1/2 years. Prior to that I was an HR assistant at a couple different companies

I am a Sr. Benefits Analyst at a hospital system in western NY. I obtained my CEBS in September of 2009. Phew! I love the area of employee benefits! We also have a self-insured medical plan. I'd be interested in hearing from others who have implemented wellness programs and info regarding methods used to monitor and track claims and plan performance.

Hi! I'm an HR Specialist at an IHS hospital in rural Alaska. I LOVE it, but being in such a remote area provides many daily challenges, mainly, such a limited employment pool and local customs in regards to work ethic. Trying to hire people from outside often requires much begging and pleading, since it takes a special kind of crazy to want to live somewhere with no road access, $10 gallons of milk and limited medical resources. I fell into the HR field only 7 months ago, when I moved up here for my husband's job. I originally put an application in to be a pharmacy tech at the hospital, but the lovely girls in my HR department saw my application and put some faith in me, and hired me on as an HR Tech. And within 6 months, I worked up from a Tech, to a Generalist, to a Specialist. I would love to hear from other people what your respective HR job duties include, since we just kind of fly by the seats of our pants up here :-)

Im an HR Administrator for a company with approximately 500 employees in the US and Canada. We have a union environment which offers us many challenges throughout the day. I'm currently an HR Generalist for a small international distributor in the tooling industry. I administer payroll and benefits for 85 people in 6 states across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Previously I was an HR Administrator for a large local landscape contractor with three locations and over 750 employees, processing worker's comp and benefits, doing training and recruiting coordination, employee programs and events. I'm working on completing my associate's degree in business management and plan to continue on for my BA but doing so part time will take some time...

In the meantime, this year I am preparing for the PHR certification.

Hi all,
I am a Compensation and Benefits Analyst for a food products manufacturer in west Michigan. We have 350 employees spread over three locations, and I am responsible for all of the benefits and compensation "stuff" for our domestic operations (about 325 of the 250 ees). I am PHR certified and working towards my CEBS! I recently moved our health insurance to a self-funded plan and so I am also working on creating a wellness program to lower our costs.
I joined Sparkpeople because, who wants to listen to someone who doesn't exercise, tell them to exercise?? :)

I'm a Substitute Coordinator for a school district. Basically, I handle all the substitute teachers. I do the scheduling (Thankfully we are going automated) and the basic HR duties as well as dabbling in the rest of the HR stuff. I'm trying to create a training program right now because a lot of our subs have never taught a class before.

Im an HR Specialist (Generalist) and EEO Manager at a Federal agency regional office. I have responsibility for 195 FTE and rely on my computer for any needed "clerical support!" We also have an active union. Its not unusual for me to "switch gears" during a day (e.g., dealing with staffing, employee or labor relations issues).

Im sure my day like yours zips by very quickly!

Wow, I can't believe how much the team has grown! I started this new job last Nov. as an HR Mgr for an IT consulting company and I've been working my buns off ever since, with no time to spare, hence the delay in replies here.

In addition, I had lost the majority of my weight so I wasn't as focused anymore. I have a threshold that I can't go past (125) and I got there earlier in the week, so I thought I better get my act together. So I started working out again and semi-watching what I eat, I'm really just trying to work out harder so I can still eat what I like.

Well, it is good to see everyone here.

I am a recruiter for a company in Tennessee. I recruit for regional companies and love what I do. My background is HR and management, so it fits well with what I do now.
The problem is, I sit at a desk, on the phone most of the day, and hear "No" alot. The solution for me at the end of the day? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or chips and dip, or any other comfort food I can find.........

I'm a Human Resource Generalist for a small start up company (just hit the 100+ mark last month!) that manufactures cardio equipment. -We sell gym equipment (at the moment only bikes) with a built in gaming system to help keep people engaged while working out.

I started out as a receptionist/general admin last year but rapidly took over the HR role since there was no one here to handle it. I'm currently working toward becoming HR certified. *gulps*

I am an HR Manager for a large metropolitan University, my official title is Manager - Compensation, Recruitment & OD. That's a convoluted way of saying I do a little bit of everything other than payroll and benefits.

I am less than 12 months away from the big 3-0 and my poor lifestyle choices are starting to catch up with me. Needless to say I have quite a bit of weight to lose to reach my goal (100+ pounds) but am pleased to report I have shed some 40 pounds since the start of the new year (via the treadmill and eating right of all things -- HA!).

Hello all! I'm a Director of HR for a small (under 50, for now) philanthropic investment firm in Redwood City California. We are in the process of scaling our organization from 28 currently to about 120 by the end of '09. It is a fabulous job and I'm lucky to work for a leader who highly values HR not just for HR sake, but as a true business partner.

I'm here to get healthy and strong so that I can minimize the effects of aging. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Hi! I am a Human Resources Analyst for a large School District in Northern CA. I primarily work with classified employees (non-teachers) doing employee relations, union negotiations - 3 bargaining units and 2 non-represented associations - and training. With the CA Governor's proposed cuts, we are in the middle of layoffs (conducting individual employee meetings) and it is TOTALLY stress eating time for me! I'm trying to focus on exercising (or thinking about it), but it's a real challenge!! Happy to be part of this group!!

Hmmm... well my business card says Administrative Assistant/Human Resource. My situation is kinda different. I was told that the position I was applying for would be approx. 75 percent Admin. and 25 percent HR. This company relocated from TX to AZ. Obviously we would have to fully staff a warehouse here in AZ so the whole recruiting, hiring, enrolling employees with benefits consumed me. It was more like 90 percent HR. I consider myself fortunate to have received this opportunity I've learned so much and now I want to go back to school and get a degree in this field. If anybody has any advise please feel free to share it.

I am new to HR and due to graduate with my BS degree in HR on Feb. 29th. I don't live in a city where interns or even HR jobs are available so I am moving after graduation depending on where the job offer is. I'm not sure which area of HR I want to go into. Great to meet you all!

Hi everyone! I was so excited to find this team! I work for the best county government in the metro Atlanta area. I started as an intern while in college, and when I graduated, was offered and accepted a position with them a Recruiter. I recruited for 5 years, and then was promoted to a position in the Compensation Division as an HR Analyst. Working in Compensation is VERY different than Recruitment but I am learning to love comp as well. As the Analyst, I project and develop the personal services budget, write and review class specifications, and serve as the system administrator for our HRIS system. Ok, now that I've listed my resume, I'll stop now!

I'm an HR Analyst and the Student Employment Coordinator at a private university in SoCal. It's basically a generalist position, with a large focus on student employment contracts, wages & other issues. I handle Education Allowance benefits for faculty, staff, administration and amusement consignments for the campus as a whole. I love my job and the people that I work with!!! :)

Hi Liss68 -

Welcome to the team, that sounds like an interesting employer. Is it mostly production staff? I worked for eye glass production company onsite, there was about 250 employees there and I was the only HR person. It always very interesting to say the least. The good thing about being a one person department is you get to do a little bit of everything.

Hi all,
I'm the HR Manager for a biotech company in CT. I've been here for 11 years now and I've worked my way up from an HR admin position. We're a small company with 65 employees so I'm a one person HR department and do it all. I was happy to find this HR group here.

Hi Divette - Welcome to the team! How exciting that is - working with both union and nonunion environments. I've always worked for employers that either had one or the other.

I followed the same promotional path as you. Most recently I was an HR Generalist and I just took another position as an Associate Manager in HR. So welcome to the HR group.

Hi
I am an Assistant Manager, HR and I just got promoted to this role from an HR Rep (Generalist). I work for a Pharma company and deal with most apects of HR for both Union and Non Union employees. I am very excited to see an HR group on this site...we are human... despite what the employees say. emoticon

It is for a utilities company.

The one & only drawback to it is it is SOOO far from my family. I'm really close to my mother the most and that will be a hard adjustment.

Although, I (and everyone around me - incl family) realize just how burn out I am where I'm at now. If I had just a few more years to go, I would stick it out. But.... I have another 20 years of working ahead of me. Overall, I've enjoyed where I work now but also want to leave before I'm grumpy & bitter or become a warm body - esp having as many years left of working ahead of me. It just wouldn't be good for anybody.

So... will be trying something new - hopefully sooner rather than later. Will let you know how Tuesday turns out.

welcome JMDSPORTSFREAK.

The interview went well enough that I'm being called up to the corporate office for one more interview (and the final interview from what I understand) next week. There are two of us in the running.

Hopefully next week sometime I'll know whether I have a new job. emoticon

Congratulations Hello15 - let us know what happens. It can be exciting and scary to change companies, especially one where you have been so loyal. You will do awesome, I'm sure of it.

Welcome JMDSPORTSFREAK it's great to see a new face in here. Wow you relocated to Seattle? I'm not too jealous as I love Texas and the warm weather it’s cold and rainy now, but the summers are great. So you teach HR Management and Employment Law too, wow I bet I can get a tons of advise from you – get ready. :-)

Look forward to learning more about each of you. :-)

Today I decided to log back onto Spark and start tracking my food again. I'm slowly falling off the diet wagon. I've only gained about 3lbs, but I know this road and I better get off quick before I crash and burn. The holidays will do it to me if I don't watch out. :-)

Talk to you soon.

Hi all! I am the HR Manager at the Hostess bakery in Seattle. I, too, dislike the cold weather and was recently promoted and relocated but will suffer through for the opportunity. I also teach undergraduate business courses (HR Management and Employment Law) for a local university. I enjoy HR work because it is a very nuturing field and I feel truly challenged every day.

I had a job interview today that if it is offered to me then I plan to accept as it is such that I would be stupid to pass it up. All elements are there - duties, pay, benefits, etc.

I enjoyed working for law enforcement for many years. However, after 16 years of it I will admit to being burn out from it. Still have a heart for the cops but lots of other things that go along with it that i think I'm just burn out and ready to make that leap elsewhere.

Hello15 -

I completely understand wanting to change positions so you can continue to grow. At my previous employer I was there for 7 yrs and did about 5 different roles with the company and got to the point where I just couldn't grow anymore unless someone left. Then I came here and unfortunately they are going through so much transition with senior management (my Manager gave notice the first week I started) I just felt things were too unstable after leaving the 7yr company and when a recruiter approached me with this new opportunity, I thought why not. So here we are, I will definitely have to stay put in this new role for awhile so I can show my stability again. YIKES!

Anyways, I have grown 2 positions and salary since I left that 7yr company all since May of this year so you can see how some times the opportunities are elsewhere.

Let us know how it goes.

Man both of you guys have cool jobs. I always wanted to do HR for the city or state because I enjoy being around law enforcement. At one point, I wanted to be a cop in LA - so I figured that would be the second best thing. I haven't got that opportunity yet, but maybe down the road.

The current company I work for just had a union scare, but a day before the election they pulled the petition. So that is the closest I've been to any labor talks. I bet collective bargaining is such a pain. I hate cold weather too, so I feel ya there. :-)

The site looks great too. How exciting, it sounds like you are in a great position right now...

I am a Human Resources Specialist for the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The majority of my job deals with staffing and classification, but I also get to do a little bit of collective bargaining, training and workforce planning. I love my job because I get to work with professional employees and applicants, my boss is amazing, and there is tons of growth potential with the state. The only downfall is that it is Wisconsin and I hate cold weather but I have been here my whole life and my family is close. I occasionally look at HR jobs in Florida but once you have the benefits I have, it is hard to leave. Another part of my job is working on enhancements to our official state of Wisconsin posting site Wisc.Jobs I was the Project Manager for this before I took my current position, but my boss is awesome and still lets me participate on the team. Take a look at the site and let me know what you think! www.wisc.jobs

I have the same role - also in local government. I work for a consolidated law enforcement agency - meaning our sheriff's office and police department are combined into one. Very few places have managed to do it. Having worked in it, I have my own opinion on whether it works or not.

I actually wound up in HR - no experience, etc when I first landed there. I discover I enjoy and have learned enough that I want to go from the quasi-Manager/Director role into the complete Manager/Director role. However, the possibility of that happening where I am is zero.

So I'm applying for other opportunities and hoping for that next break.

Welcome SCBAMAFAN!!

I'm excited to have a team like this. I'm hoping it is just another avenue to bounce ideas off of. How often do you guys check these things, maybe we can all include our email addresses too and we can bounce ideas off eachother that way too.

I just got another job as an HR Manager, I didn't want to leave my current employer, but there was a lot of drama in the HR department and I just felt to unstable.

Off to a new adventure!!!

Hi Everyone. I've been on sparkpeople since the beginning of the year and I just discovered this HR team. My title is HR Coordinator, but I am more of a specialist. I work for a local government agency and am in charge of Recruiting, Safety, Worker's Comp, Affirmative Action, EEO and Employment Security claims. Yes, I wear many hats. We have over 2000 employees and I work with law enforcement, EMS, corrections officers and all administrative offices. It's a lot of fun and no 2 days are ever the same.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and being a part of the team.

Hello all. My name is Melissa. I started using Sparkpeople about 6 months ago. It's been kind of neat watching it grow! I just began my Human Resource concentration a couple of months ago at DeVry University, so I'm not actually in the field right now, but I am hoping to start an internship by January. My favorite aspect of HR so far is recruiting. I just completed an Employment Law class this week, so if you have any more questions I would be more than happy to apply some of what I've learned. Have a great day all!
Glad to find an HR group on here.

Hi, guys! What fun to find an HR group on sparkpeople! I think that HR people tend to be more giving and do a lot of office work, so losing weight can be hard in this profession. Anyway, I'm still a student in my last year specializing in HR, but I'm a co-op student so I have experience working. This fall, I'm going back to work for 4 months as an HR Analyst at a lottery company in Canada. I'm excited to get back into it! And I'm glad to meet like-minded people on here. Good luck to all of you!

I am co-owner of a placement agency in Kansas City. So not every issue of HR, but need to know all the laws for our employees and of course recruiting everyday.

There are classes for HR professionals specifically for benefits and compensation. I would go that route and take some classes. After taking the courses ask your current company if they need some help in that arena so you can get a bit more exposure. Good Luck!

Well I started in HR about 7yrs ago as an HR assistant, then moved to a coordinator position, then a generalist. You just have to show you are willing to learn (which you are) and that you can handle what they put in your lap. I remember going to my Mgr all the time saying I wanted to learn more, please involve me in whatever you do. Thankfully she did.

Oh really, I used to live in Newbury Park, CA and then Los Angeles, CA for about 8 years. I moved back to TX in 1998. The plant I work for now has about 250 employees and I'm the onsite HR support. We are apart of larger organization with about 100 labs worldwide. Still I'm ready to be back in corporate, I would like to get back to dealing more with exempt employees vs. hourly. I learned a lot, but I'm ready to grow into another role now.

Wow, you are busy! I'm still entry level in HR. I've been in HR about 2 years, and have so much more to learn! I would like to get into benefits or compensation. Any ideas of steps I could take? I have looked at positions, but I am running into the experience problem. I am willing to learn if someone would be willing to train/teach/mentor me.

I live in Northern California... I worked in the corporate world and enjoyed it but I did too much traveling and it was a bit tough with 2 little ones! I love the job I have now because it is a family owned company that has been in business for 55 years and I have only 54 employees whereas before I had a startup company with over 300 employees and 22 offices!!! Yikes, what a difference!! I defintley consider myself blessed!!

Yeah, another member. How exciting! What state do you live in? I just accepted another HR Generalist job at a company called CAE Simuflite, they train pilots so it should be interesting. It's not manufacturing its back in the Corporate worl, I kind of like that better.

I'm an HR Generalist - which means I do a little bit of everything. I work on site in a manufacturing facility and there really isn't a dull moment with 3 shifts coming in and out.
