I'm a little sad that there aren't more things happening in Service Units. Our Council does have a recognition luncheon where the official awards are given. The tea is something that we have been doing locally, just to have something nice for leaders. We haven't done a retreat in a long time (not since I have been a volunteer). I am a member of our Alumnae group and we have a weekend each year for fellowship, crafting and service. I enjoy the tea as it gives us a chance to spend time together and not be in a meeting or event capacity. Plus I have girls serving and running the kitchen, which they like to do. One of these years I will do a Mom & Me Tea - maybe when I have more time and am not advising a large troop...

Hi just a little quickie here, sometimes bringing your child or some of the girls from your troop will help & have them do homework or play quietly while you get your business done.
I'm not able to make all of the meetings but if you don't go you miss out on some of the fun events & experience from the older leaders. This Sunday we're having an ice cream social
& other fun events, I'm really looking forward to it.

as far as I can tell, our SU doesn't do anything....BUT... I don't attend SU meetings either. I don't like the SU staff & disagree with how they do things. I voiced concerns to our Council person, but they apparently fell on deaf ears so I stay clear. My co-leader goes to the meetings strictly to get info. We don't do many SU events as a troop either....they are usually poorly planned.

My girls appreciate what I do & they show it by coming back every meeting....and that's all the reward I need!!!!

in the fall we're going to have a leader retreat. We haven't done one for a few years, but I'm pretty excited about it. Hopefully it will be a way to help get the energy going.

We've had attendance drop significantly at our leader meetings and I haven't been able to figure out how to boost it again. Folks are missing out on information and that camradarie that I think helps make the role of a leader enjoyable. Any quick suggestions on how to boost attendance?

Some of our service units have individual ceremony's and other's do not. Neither of the service units I am involved with have recognition ceremonies.

As a council, we have an annual recognition ceremony where we recognize Thanks Badge and other high level awards. There usually isn't a lot of attendance and we are working on that. This fall, we are going to have our annual meeting in the morning and our adult recognition ceremony in the afternoon hoping that those that come for the annual meeting will stay for the ceremony.

The Outstanding Leader and Outstanding Volunteers are usually recognized by the community or service unit.

We had a tea today to celebrate the 100th. It was a girl and adult tea. An idea that might work for you is we had trefoils for alumnae to write their favorite girl scout memory and posted them on the wall.

We don't have an event. We give prizes out at our last SU meeting of the year.

Do you (or your Service Unit) have any events for leaders and other volunteers each year? I have been hosting a tea for the past three years. I do enjoy planning and doing this event, but I would like to add some other elements or think about changing up what we do every year. This year, of course, is special since it is the 100th Anniversary, so I am doing a Girl Scout
themed tea and making the decorations and favors to fit the theme. I am especially interested in any GS party games for the tea this year that would be good for the adults to play.
