Most of my girls just got done at Twilight Camp as their first year PA's. . They had a blast!! And then we finally did our bridging ceremony this Saturday so now they are officially Cadettes! We will only have two years though as Cadettes since GS changed all the age ratios but let us stay as 3 year Juniors.

We are finally going to the Food Bank this Wed and then to the Senior Center to deliver the money they got from their community Garage Sale in May and their cookies from Gift of Caring in March!

Then all of our Junior stuff is completely done. I had 7 kids completely earn the Bronze and 4 others that got half way there. .

Go Team Golden Phoenix!

Haven't posted in ages - life just got too busy. My Cadette troop is planning a quick 3 day trip to Schlitterbahn water park in New Braunsfil in July. Only one day at the park - the other 2 are travel. But it should be a lot of fun. Even though we are saving for our big trip in 2010, the girls have worked so hard on their silver, they deserved some fun.

One day at a time . . .

I'm new to the team and this is an easy way to get to know evryone...
We just got back from Camporee. It was wet and cold due to the fact it rained nearly the whole time. It was fun though. My girls bridge to Seniors this summer (they voted to do the ceremony in August) and were working as PA's most of the time so they were very busy, they were so glad to get home for some well deserved rest!

Whereas you are already counting down the days the regular meetings start again. I am breathing a sigh of relief that they are over! We won't start our regular meetings again until Oct since the girl scout year is Oct through Oct. .

However we definitely have plenty of activities planned throughout the summer to keep me busy!

Gotta see them all Friday for our briding event at the Bouncy place. .

Your camping sounded wonderful! I am contemplating doing the water safety course next fall when it is available again so I can do that with my girls. .

Our camping trip to Canada planned for late September is also $40 per girl for the 3 days so I think that is very reasonable (actually turned out to be $385 US for 10 of us!) So yeah - you got a wonderful deal!

We got back from our camping trip Sunday afternoon. The girls all had a great time. The 3 leaders also had a great time. They all cooked their dinners each night, 2 leaders and 2 GS went on a hike in the woods, all went canoeing, all went horseback riding, and of course everyone swam forever. We did all this Fri - Sund for $40 per person. I didn't think it was to bad.

We are planning on going again to the same place and this time we are going to learn archery and hike along with either canoeing or horseback riding. Not sure yet. We are planning to go in August. Will keep you up to date.

Our school starts 8/26 so scouts will start again 9/14 since 9/4 is Labor Day and the schools are out. I can't wait - getting excited about the new year and new experiences I have in mind this time around.

Our troop is getting ready to go camping at Grandhaven Resortū and will be earning their horseback riding badge and they will be canoeing also. There should be one for that or maybe we can incorporate it into one that exists. They are really looking forward to this trip. It is a new one for us. We normally go to the same camp but changed our minds since the girls sounded interested in this new resort.

Hope everyone is getting along well. Have a great day.

Well we did our end of the year June Leader appreciation meeting! It was really exciting! There were 5 Junior Troops who earned their Bronze Award (including mine) and several of them bridging up to Cadettes. We also had a troop of 10 girls who graduated all the way through Girl Scouts - 13 years in! I was in charge of awards and was able to get three outstanding volunteers recognized and my asst leader the Outstanding Leader pin.

Our SU is going to have a big change next year - the gal who has ran it the last 4 years has to leave us. For one, she finally had children and they were both boys. And two her hubby lost his job so they are both going to look for full time work. We are all really sad to see her go.

And coming up for the rest of this month - my girls go on Sat to a local water/amusement park, Wed is our last reg meeting of the year (and our last at their elementary school), and then on the 19th they have an overnight at a Bouncy House (giant warehouse full of BIG bouncy toys. This is also being done as a Bridging requirements event so there will be lots of Juniors all around our region at this!

Once that is over - the I have nothing left until July when it is getting ready for Day Camp. I run the cooking unit. . and almost all my girls are going to be PA's this year at camp. It is going to be AWESOME!

What do the rest of you have going on????

Go Team Golden Phoenix!

I am having a hard time at the moment getting my girls to finish their bronze award on their own. I know they are waiting for me to plan it all and hold their hands and I am just not going to give in. . This is a test to see how ready they really are to move on to Cadettes!

We have a huge meeting coming up on Wed - they are finishing two badges which will finish off the Sign of the World and the Sign of the Sun. . Plus they are going to be finalizing their plans for the garage sale in 2 weeks.

I am also starting a new job (today was the first day) and will be out of town most of next week. . This week is going to be a little relaxing as I don't have my computer or anything yet but all the same - I want to make sure i am here for them when they call or email.

We're in Lacey. Thanks for the tips! I'm not a very crafty person either, but my co-leader is, so we're a good balance. I've been doing the vote thing, but I recently was told that I've been doing a lot of votes... so I am backing off for a while. LOL. I have been encouraging them to use their badge books more this year and earn some badges independantly, and I think that has really helped them to start thinking about all the activities that they can do as Girl Scouts.

So you're local! Where's your troop out of?? Mine if from the Kent Easthill area close to Fairwood. .

When they are younger like that - Brownies. . I found I would bring several ideas and have then vote on it.

But ever since we've been juniors they've been taking more and more of the meeting planning on themselves and I gather supplies and figure out the logistics (like how to get done all they want to get done).

There are some things that I still bring them as an idea (like running Thinking Day this last year). .But for the most part I really rely on them. We have never been a very arts and crafty troop - much more focused on badges and getting activities done. Definitely have your girls go through the badge book - that helps with a lot of the planning as they decide what they want to do!

I've got a troop of 2 juniors and 8 brownies. 4 of my brownies will be bridging to juniors this year, so we're havigng a bridging ceremony in June for that... yet to be planned. I also am planning a camping trip for June and we're participating in the Tacoma Rainier's Girl Scout night in June as well. In May (yikes, that's soon) we're doing a Service Project cleaning up the school grounds and having a slumber party afterward. In August we're going to stay the weekend in Port Townsend.

I have a hard time getting my girls to actually come up with ideas and end up planning everything myself. I guess that's partly because they're still young, but I'm not sure how to get them thinking about planning their own activities. Every time I try to get them thinking, they get bored and stop paying attention to me. My group is very active and fast paced... they don't want to sit and talk and plan... they want to go go go!!

I would love some ideas. This is our first full year as a troop but when we were with the other troop we didn't do much either. Any suggestions would be great. If you want to sparkmail me ideas that is awesome. Thanks so much.

That is odd! Yeah - we tend to do at least one field trip a month outside of our regular meetings. . And sometimes I hear a lot of grumbles from my hubby that we do too much Girl Scouting stuff. .and it seems when the troop was younger I missed out on a lot of my friend's get togethers and whatnot. .But as the girls have gotten older, I am better at organizing around things and also more at peace if I can't do it all.

There are some times I know an activity is going to go on and I just simply can't be there. .

If you'd like ideas on ways to encourage your girls to do more, just ask!

It sounds like you guys all have a lot of fun stuff coming up! It is always good to hear what other troops are doing!

Sometimes I wish mine was a little more laid back but again - those girls keep planning and I just go along for the ride!

I have 9 Juniors. . and then - beleive it or not - 3 girls that just joined this week moving me up to 12 kids. We are 6th graders so I was shocked I had so many wanting in so late! But we have a lot of stuff coming this summer and for the new comers they want to do it too and since Girl Scouts is from Oct to Sept they have to be registered for this year.

May and June - finishing our Bronze Award with a local community retirement center (playing games, singing, skits, etc) and doing a community yard sale fund raiser for them for their event fund.

May 2 - PA training for Day Camp and going to Council store to spend their cookie Dough money (our new cookie incentive program. . its a weird adjustment)

May 27th - working with a sister Cadette troop in preparation of bridging

June - Animal Shelter to finally deliver our Gift of Caring cookies and take a tour

July - Day Camp (They'll be PA's - yikes!)

August - Bridging to Cadettes, pool party and saying goodbye to two of my girls I've had since Kindergarten! SNIFF! So I will be bridging at least 8 girls but most likely 10.

Sept - Camping in Canada! This is a "Mix It Up" event with Canadian Girl Guides and US Girl Scouts. They are all either from WA or British Columbia but different regions. We did this two years ago (when they just started 5th grade) and the girls had such a blast they can't wait to go back! This year's theme: Mythology!

We are a very active group as you can see! My girls always want to do it all and as long as they keep planning it, I will keep going with them!

I can't beleive they will be 7th graders next year!

I have 12 juniors. We are finishing up our Bronze award right now. We have been working with the animal shelter for that. We have a big service unit camping program this weekend and will be camping two nights. In May, we have a badge program at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glenrose, TX. We will likely have an end of the year party and work on bridging over the summer. Just no time right now. I would like to plan a big troop trip, but it's difficult.

Our juniors are planning our Bridging Ceremony for the end of the school year. We have 4 girls bridging to Juniors and 2 briding to Cadettes.

The whole troop is planning to help with the Relay for Life committees for their community service.

We are then planning 3 camping trips with the girls. They will come up with the meals and will help put up the tents and take them back down. We were going to go to Hershey Park this summer but couldn't raise enough money to pay for the trip.

My Cadettes are working on their Silver Award, and are leading Brownie/Daisy troops for their Leadership hours. We planted a tree yesterday for Earth Day. And we are planning a summer fun event, but haven't yet decided what that will be.

My Daisy is doing the day activities during the upcoming council encampment but my Cadette has a band thing that day so she's going to miss it.

The next thing the Cadette has on the schedule (besides meetings) is a Troop trip to MA to go to Walden Pond. I think that's all they've got going.
