I have seen/read about that. we did not have any older girls ask to lead our brownies (we did mention to some troops with older girls that we would be a willing troop to work with).
I think it's a great opportunity for the older and younger girls to work together.

Do any of you have a Cadette helping you with your Brownie quest? There is a Cadette award they can earn by helping a Brownie troop do their quest. It's a lot of work for a Cadette girl, and the Brownie leader has to be willing to let the Cadette plan events. I don't see how my girls can fit it in with the silver award this year, plus don't know how many Brownie leaders would want them - what do you all think?

i'm really enjoying the planned activities too, but I do feel like it leaves little time for the old handbook and try-it book. last year we achieved 6 try-its (most girls), but this year if we finish all 4 quests, there will be little time for other try-its or fun patches.

we also awarded the first key this week. the girls seem to enjoy doing the quest. they will be making some type of healthy change with their family for january. we'll be having a christmas party for the december meeting. it'll be fun when we get to the point where they decide what activity they would like to do to improve our community. i really like having a lesson plan to follow. i feel like we were not very organinzed the previous years.

we've gotten thru the first session and awarded the girls with their first key this week. They seemed pretty excited. I like having the map as a visual aid. How's your quest going?

we also charged $25 for each girl, which covers the cost of the new book.

We are starting our quests Monday.

Our girls are paying for their books in a way. We charge dues at $25 per girl. We only charged the $15 a girl last year and didn't have enough in the troop funds but being new we weren't really sure what to expect. Eyes more open this year. Also, hoping more girls sell more cookies this year!!

thanks for the update.
We had our meeting last night. We also did the ball toss and Big Star. We asked the families to do the family star activity before the next meeting. At the next meeting we're celebrating JL's bday, wearing costumes, and then we'll do the hunt for the 10 Laws.
At last night's meeting, we had the girls "vote" for snacks, how they'd dress, and who they wanted to give a "gift" to at our next meeting. It's hard not to plan everything all the time for the girls, so by having them vote, it gives them the say in the troop's activities.
The "gift" they will bring, will be an item for Operation compassion that the Salvation Army is collecting. (the other 2 choices were Ronald McDonald House and our local Combined Community Services).
We added the $7 to our Troop dues (which we collected for the year already). The girls really liked getting their new books last night.
Sorry for the Long Love Letter :-)

We started our Quest at our last meeting. I am breaking them up into stages. I drew a large star on poster board, then we did a ball toss to each girl to have them tell us what was special about them. How does everyone feel about the new Brownie books that cost $7 each? Are your parents buying them? If not, what is everyone doing to try & follow along??

"bugs on a log" where you take celery (cut into 3 inch pieces), fill with pimento cheese and top with raisens (the bugs). I personally don't like them but just have to eat them because they are so cute.

My girls love strawberries (dipped in sugar), but still better than cake/cookies.

This year we are going to make smoothies as part of a meeting - counting toward cooking IP.

Apples and caramel, mandarine oranges in the packs you buy for lunches or anything like that would work. My duaghter loves the oranges.

great, let me know how it goes.
btw, we are probably going to buy most of our own snacks for the girls this year (instead of parents sign up to bring snacks). We hope to have more "smart" snacks. Have any ideas on what we can plan for smart snacks? We do have peanut allergies in the troop. We had crackers and cheese sticks for our first meeting. (and water, too)
Thanks!

I have Daises, but my daughter will be starting her Quest on Monday.

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.

I need to refresh my memory, I read over the material a little while ago... We are going to have a "hunt" for the 10 laws and make plans for how to celebrate J. Low's bday, but I'm not sure what else.
(I printed one law each on 10 pieces of paper. We were also given 10 little flashlights to give to the girls. I'm so excited because we have 10 Brownies this year!)

Hello, I was just wondering if any troop has started their journeys yet, specifically a Brownie Quest?
We are going to on the 14th and I wondered if any of you have any suggestions for me. Thanks! ann
