We had our first meeting this past Monday. We worked on putting a Brownie try-it kit together for new leaders. This was the last activity we needed to finish out the Sign of the Rainbow (in preparation for the Bronze Award). The grade level changes this year are going to make this year very busy for us. I was hoping to have another year to finish out the Bronze, but I think we will make it fine. The girls also voted that they would like to try the first Journeys book. We'll get started on that at our next meeting.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the year.

Michelle

We had our first meeting last night, but only my daughter and 1 other girl showed up :(. We just played on the playground since nothing I planned would've worked with 2 girls. We did vote for "Art to Wear" for the 18th, so hopefully more will show up then. I have 2 possible new girls(would bring us 5) and possibly a second co-leader(first one opted out) that I should know whether she is going to do it this weekend.
How did everyone else's first meeting go??

Wow, that's a BIG daisy troop! We had tables at the Elementary schools in our SU at open houses yesterday, but I'm not sure how it went. hoping we get about 5-10 more girls, as my troop's at 4 at the moment(brownies). I did get a call from someone from the SU asking me how many girls I would take, so I'm hoping that's a GOOD thing :).(my dd's school is not in the SU so they didn't have a table there, surprisingly).

Yesterday we had Girl Scout registration. My Daisy troop had 7 girls register (pay) and another 9 girls that completed the paperwork and will pay at our Parents' Meeting (9/2). I can not wait for our first Girl Scouts meeting (9/15). emoticon

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.

If they want to visit the landfill, and to work on their Bronze Award, try to tie the two together somehow. It's a great idea....

We had our parent meeting last night and it went rather well. Mostly, we filled out forms, but there was some good discussion on our plans for the year. They all seemed to agree that trying Journeys was a good idea and they were ok with using troop funds to pay for the book. I still have to talk to the girls about it. They all seemed to want their daughters to go for the Bronze Award. While I talked to the parents, I had the girls brainstorm on what they would like to do during the year as far as field trips. Some were being silly as I found "landfill" on the list. Would they be surprised if we did something about recycling and actually visited the landfill?? Not currently in my plans, but thought it would be funny. I'm looking forward to our first "real" meeting in two weeks.

We only have 4 girls, so far, and only 1 is new, so basically we'll be talking about what we want to do this year and registering/meeting the new girl/girls(we'll be inviting people at the schools' open houses on Tuesday). The first try-it will most likely be Girl Scout Ways, lead by the returning girls, to teach the new girl/girls. I'm also hoping to run a workshop for Brownie GS Through the Years for the service unit in October, so we'll talk about that as well. I wanted to do a Manners one last year but nobody was interested, so I figured I would try a different one. None of my girls have it, and I don't know how many other brownies in the SU have it, and since they'll be new girls, hopefully they'll be interested too.
Anyway, depending on the county you're in here in MD school starts either the 20th or the 25th, with our's being the 20th. My daughter's going into 3rd grade and is VERY excited.

We start school on 8/18 and will be meeting with our Silver Adviser that night. The next meeting will be a regrouping, since meeting during the summer is hit or miss since we normally meet at school and have to find alternate locations. We will make the 8/25 meeting a planning meeting.

I have scheduled our parent meeting/girl planning meeting for Monday (8/18). Wanted to get that in before school starts on the 25th. We will start regular meetings on Sept 1. We are a 2nd year Junior troop so I am hoping the girls show some interest in earning their Bronze award. Up to now they have been perfectly happy with me planning meetings, I really want the girls to step up and tell me what they want to do.

Our troop doesn't have meetings. We had our first service unit meeting. It's so frustrating that so few people show up. We put a lot of work into that meeting. We tried to make it fun. Frustrating.

We did decide that we are going to do a Powder Puff Derby. This will be a first time event. Everyone was really excited about it. We are going to do that in November.

I am in the middle of planning fall camp - J Low's birthday bash. And Cadette Fun Day - The Amazing Race.

We don't seem to have much activity on the team lately, so I thought maybe we needed a fresh new topic. School will be starting in a couple weeks for many of our scouts, and that will mean the start of a new scouting year. What do you have planned for your first meeting?
For my girls, 7th & 8th grade Cadettes, a planning meeting: setting up our calendar for the year, and reviewing what all we need to do to earn our silver award.

One day at a time . . .
