Well, we are lucky enough to have a great Day Camp program put on by our town that runs for 8 weeks, but that's the only program that runs that long that I know of. Most others are just for a week.

Well someone told me the other day and I heard it on t.v. awhile back that back east they send their kids away for most of the summer. I was just curious if that was true.

It wasn't in a row, it was like go for a week, come home for 2-3 days, then go back for a week, and it was like 6 weeks altogether. My mother didn't make me go, I WANTED to go. It was nice living in the country away from all the noise of the big city and making a bunch of new friends and learning new skills. I probably earned 5-6 badges each summer. Also, during the 2 weeks sessions there was visitation days where families could come and spend the day with the campers.
They don't do that here though.

Beth is going to her first away camp for a week, she has done some daycamps, those are only a week long as well.

I don't konw why you'd want to send your kids away for the whole summer, I would miss her too much!

Here in MD you register for one week in the beginning(reg starts in Jan and ends in March) and then IF there are spaces they offer extra weeks to people who are interested. The daycamp here that my daughter goes to is only held for 1 week each summer, and there is another one that's more primitive, but I don't think she's ready for that yet. Day camps run Mon-Fri, resident camps run Sun-Sat except for the 1/2 week ones that run either Sun-Tues or Wed-Sat(for beginning campers, that's what my dd went to last summer).
Melissa
PS Most of the camps are too packed for them to offer additional weeks. When I went to camp as a girl(25 years ago), you could go all summer if you wanted!) Cost here is around $250/week for full week of resident. Daycamp is $80 or $45 if the parent works the camp.

Here in CNY you sign up for a week at a time. There is a resident camp for each level but most of the camps are day camps. They all run Monday to Friday with busing. They run from $175 to $225 for each week. I think they only run July & the beginning of August.

I'm in FL and our camps run Sunday thru Friday. You sign up for each week separately. Each session runs between $200-$300/week depending on what the topic is. I think there's a few sessions that run 2 weeks but not many. I don't know of any all summer camps around here.

Just a curious question. I here back east you send your kids to camp for many of weeks or almost all summer. Is that true?
