When my girls became cadettes I let them pick the first IP then my asst leader and I planned the activities, it took the first semester of school. The second semester we assigned the girls a month, had them pick an IP and plan all the activities to earn the IP. It worked much better. They earned seven IP's the first year, and then started working on their Silver Award over the summer with the Studio 2B books. They hope to complete their Silver Award and all the necessary skills by the end of the year. It's a lot more work than the Junior badges, but they like it.

I listening still and thank you all. What do you mean about X-treme stuff? I would be happy if some of the stuff was like Boy Scouts. I absolutely love my son's Boy Scouts. I love the merit badges and appreciate the books and all the outdoor stuff they have. I find it very exciting. I think around October or November my son's troop is going to learn how to fly a air plane. They just do so many exciting things in his troop. My son this summer among the few things he is going to learn to Scuba dive on Catalina Island. Next year if he goes again I am going to sign up to learn to Scuba too. For me I think it would be great to be like the Boy Scouts some what. Let me know what you all mean about extreme. I am egarly waiting to hear all about it.

Yeah, what's the deal with all this X-treme stuff??? Are they trying to pretend to be like Boy Scouts?? Why not just chage the whole program, why make it separate???

The new Cadette grade levels will be grades 6-8 (the only level that covers three grades) The new Journey for Cadettes is aMAZE about the twists and turns of getting along. Cadettes can still work on IPs and all of the Studio 2B program. Silver Award is changing but the changes haven't been announced yet so girls will work under the old guidelines for the time being. My Cadettes are so busy that we don't have meetings much. They go to council events, camp etc. though.

I have a Cadette troop. I find IPs take more than a couple meetings - maybe I am tougher:) They really are much more in-depth. I don't find the Service Projects too hard, but most have a sharing requirement - so you have to get with another troop and share what you have learned. Great concept - hard to schedule. We haven't done any of the studio 2b charms, but 2 of them are required for the silver, so will be doing those - they are a bit strange. Lots of filling in little surveys, and dicussing. I think we will do a couple each meeting. Hard part will be getting the silver done. My girls are in 7th and 8th next year, so I waited till now (when they were all Cadettes) to start, figuring we'd have 2 year, but with new levels, I don't know.
We meet twice a month, for an hour and a half. We usually have one outing per month or two.
Probably have included more than you ever wanted to know!!!

One day at a time . . .

It's the Cadette equivilant to Daisy petals, Brownie Try its and Junior Badges. It's IP for Interest Project. They have to do several more requirements. It may take a couple meetings to earn an IP. They have to choose two "Skill Builders'. One "technology" one "Career" and one "Service Project" and pick two requirements of their choice. So they have 7 total requirements for each IP.

It makes it harder to plan group events too. I always make an admission of pet food, or donations to the troops, food drive, toiletry items that can be donated and called a service project. Or make cards for the troops. I look at the badge and see what I can make fit.

Oh yeah I forgot about the Focus Books (charms). They are in addition to the badges (IPs) We bought about 5 or 6 and let the girls check them out. Not sure we ever got them back. Nor did anyone earn one. I think they are a more an on your own activity. There are two required for the Silver Award.

Tell us about your daughter's Japanese event. It sounds fun. I always plan the Cadette Fun day.

I have a troop of 4 13 year old cadettes. They don't meet anymore. They just do the fun stuff. Fall camp, cadette fun day, etc. A couple go to summer camp. When they first bridged we only met monthly. They each planned an IP for each meeting. They were in charge of picking it out and presenting it. Or you can let them pick out badges to do during the year and break it out by each girl gets a requirement.

If they want to earn the Silver Award start early and plan your first IPs around the Silver Award. They can do the prerequisites together and then do the main project as a group or on their own.

Mine don't earn many badges anymore, but we figure they're still active in GS. That's what counts. two are at summer camp now and they will come home earning an IP from there.

Mine is new to Cadettes also. I'm curious about these "charms". I've been told they earn "Charms" instead of badges. She's signed up for her first event the first week of August....Japanese Book Art!
