hat's cool that your girls got that much of a benefit out of their event. Great idea. I had no idea there was that much bacteria! Yuck!

Our girls are going to install "Doggy Sanitation Stations" in the local city park. We attended a Bronze award event given by a junior troop. It was an environmental fair where the girls earned the eco action interest patch. While there they learned that if a dog owner does not pick up their dogs feces it leaves over 6 million bacteria that get absorbed into the ground and the water supply.

It must vary. Silver could be GS related, but Gold can not be GS related. I don't know if that was stated in the binder or not.

That's too bad, because she loved it and so did the girls she planned it for. She could do it for the GS community service bar. That's 25 hours.

That's really too bad about your daughter's project. I am always amazed when I read the gold award projects in our council - some seem really hard, and some seem like they are SO easy. As far as the silver, I don't know if the councils differ on rules, but we were told the silver project had to reach outside GS to the community. So any sort of program just for GS will not qualify. My daughter wanted to do a day camp, and was told that would not count.

One day at a time . . .

She planned a bridging camp for Brownies to Juniors and Juniors to cadettes. She did the flag badges. She showed them flage etiquette and they did flag ceremonies. SHe had red, white and blue cupcakes and crafts. It was pretty awesome. I couldn't believe with the citizenship in with the leadership that it didn't do better. She had a big binder full of flag info, ceremony info, patriotic songs and poems. She had a scrap book of the event. She had all her crafts and recipes. It was very elaborate. We both really enjoyed doing it together.

I helped three girls earn all the prerequistes. Then they each did their own project. One did a Daisy fun day and it was a cheerleading day. The other girl typed up their school directory. That was a lot of time! I wouldn't like that project, but she enjoyed doing it. I got to award them their silver pins. Each of them is a leader's daughter, so mom's got to pin their own daughter.

Good luck with your girls projects. Let us know what they are going to do.

What was your daughter's Silver project? My Cadette girls are working together on their Silver Project, and it is quite an experience. So much more than it was to earn the Bronze award.

My daughter entered her Silver Project in for a 4H project at the fair this year. I was very disappointed in the judging. This was a huge project. It had leadership and citizenship all over it. She put in so many hours. It was considered for state fair, but went no further then that. And yet a poster about how to make omelettes made it to state. How does that work? She did very well overall, just the two leadership projects got no where. What are the judges thinking?

She did get showmanship in her age level for showing her cat! That was awesome. It's only her second year showing the cat. The cat is going to come to hate state fair time. A bath a nails trimmed. Poor thing!
