That's funny! A two headed girl scout. I can't imagine my daughter with two mouths! One's enough. emoticon

I am in San Jacinto council in Texas, in reply to the early question.
As to how you get corporate sponsors, I know a girl in a neighboring suburb went to a furniture store and convinced them to buy cases and cases of cookies, and to give a box of cookies to each person that bought a piece of furniture that month. My daughter worked up a presentation for a car dealer to try that and we had to go over there several times for him to keep the appointment and then when we finally did, he looked at us like we had two head. So i haven't a clue how you pull it off.

One of my "moms" sent me that article yesterday. Unbelievable! I am planning to forward it to my troops parents for all that complain about selling 100 and having to deliver them. :)

How do you get corporations to buy your cookies? Sign me up! Do they buy them for a tax break and what do they do with them? I know we have an ice cream place here that makes GS cookie ice cream, but who else and why?

yeah that's one heck of a street corner in Michigan! LOL

My daughter barely made it to 327 boxes. We live in the middle of nowhere in Texas.... and there are many acres between houses and NO city that we can go infringe on some other troop or service unit's area to sell in.

But that's ok... cuz it's not about how many boxes the girls sold... it's about the courage to sell them to folks they don't even know, the confidence to walk up to an unknown person, and the character building skills the girls get from the cookie sale program. Every year we keep getting told how "it's not a competition" yet the media grabs stuff like this by the horns and Girl scouts get sucked right in.

No one can make you feel any particular way, good or bad........ unless you let them.

I agree with the corporate comment. My daughter sold 1300 last year, and we virtually committed every weekend to cookies. The top girls in our council (about 5000) all said they did that much through corporate sponsorships. The only thing I hated about that was that the average little girl can't compete. And in our council if you are not in the top 10 sellers, you really aren't recognized at all. Since we are the largest council in the country, that's a pretty elite group. That's why in my SU, I started the 700 club for our girls - our old council used to do that, and they will get a pizza party and something special. One year it was a limo ride but I can't afford that - maybe a mani/pedi if little ones like that too. Still trying to think of the something special part. Ideas are welcome.

I read that too yesterday. Where did she live? I can't remember. She must not have that much competition around her. I live in Southern California on the border of L.A. county and San Bernardino county. We have to much competition. Plus when I was trying to think of what corner we could stand in front of I couldn't think of one. Because I think it could cause traffic problems and I don't think anyone would be very happy with that. You would have to have a corner people could pull off into and I really can't think of a corner. Not even the strawberry field would be good. Because I don't think the strawberry people would be to happy with all these cars pulling off to get cookies. I don't know I just see to many problems in my area. If we could do something like that I might try. They didn't say. But I think she must of sold to corporations also in lump amounts. Could you imagine getting that many cookies at your house or delivering them?

Wow! I can't even imagine putting that much time into cookies. I have other things to do. Our spring break falls during cookie sales. That potentially takes up two weekends. I do know that next year we will be doing lots of cookie booths. The girls want to go on a trip, so they will be busy. Not that busy though.

just finished reading this article as well. Great for this girl and her troop.

I think it's awesome for her, the troop and the council. But honestly in my council I think there would be so many complaints from other leaders about standing at same place day in and day out. It seems there is much competition here and I totally don't agree with it. In another SU of my council that a friend of mine is in says the leaders almost fight over who will get what location for booths. What ever happen to teamwork, honesty and fun? But kudos to this girl!

I was just about to post the same article.
Can you believe that?

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.
