Doxie- I am so sorry, my thoughts are with you. My family live in Cullman too, my Dad since birth. It is all so sad, luckily they survived with very minor damages...trees uprooted (which we saw a LOT of during the whole month of April), shingles missing, and the weirdest part was sticks sticking out of the vinyl siding...crazy.

I moved to Tuscaloosa 2 years ago so I feel like I've lost both of my hometowns. So much of what I saw everyday is unrecognizable- I just look around thinking about the meaning of "home". Luckily we had no damage (save emotional) but a home we were looking at buying is completely gone. We couldn't even find it driving by...thinking about everything still brings streaming tears. So much loss.

PS:
Someone took the majority of her horses to Georgia to stay until she gets rebuilt. She had
between 50-60 head when the storm hit.

Another lady in the area said they were picking up any little thing they could salvage the
morning after the tornadoes, some people stopped by and said "well, if you don't want to
pick it up we'll take it."

Disgusting.

We have a lady in Ohatchee with a horse ranch and boarding facility that was wiped out.
Half her barn is gone, there is nothing but broken fences everywhere, and she lost 3 horses
including 1 with a 3 month old colt. They have gotten campers together to stay in, and
someone brought portapotties out there........it is just devastation in Ohatchee....right????

There have been looters there. The police are running thin and so they have to defend them-
selves.

If this is not pathetic, I don't know what is.........what kind of person steals from people who
have nothing??????? left.

I had heard that Cullman was in horrible shape! I know the National Guard is having to work there to protect property from looters! I can't imagine someone stealing from those that are already suffering so much hardship.

I live in Cullman County and thankfully my house and family are all safe, but Cullman city was hit hard. I got to go down highway 278 (it was finally opened yesterday) and everything is gone. It is so heart breaking to see my home town so destroyed. We got power back last Monday but some of my friends just got power back on a few days ago. My prayers go out to all the families who have lost everything.

We're ok here! I certainly can't complain since I still have a house and all my family members.
I lost most of my baby chicks when my coop was tipped. I had all my broodie hens and chicks housed out of the weather. Thankfully we weren't hurt! It could have been a lot worse!!! My hometown of Blountsville looks like a war zone. You really have to see it to believe the destruction! I have never imagined some of the sights I have seen! We have been blessed by lots of great folks helping out! Volunteers and the National Guard are awesome! I hope all of you are ok too!

We did Recovery/Clean up at two sites today. The man and woman who live in the second house we went to are both injured. The wife is still in the hospital and the man is all bandaged up. The hightlight of the day is when we found their wedding album. They were married in 1964 and it brought tears to the eyes of the husband. I know he can't wait to show his wife.
I'll be back out tomorrow, going at it again.

I live in Rainsville. An ef4 tornado hit just down the road from us. We were so very lucky. 33 people were killed in our area. 3 of them go to my son's school. We had no power for 5 whole days and there's a few around here that still don't have any. The most devastating part is seeing all of the homes that have been demolished. My son's school was also majorly damaged and they say it may be anywhere from 12-18 months to fix it to be safe for students. For now, they came up with a plan for our students to attend another school in the area from 1-5:30 while the original students at that school will attend from 7:30-12. Also, our bank was destroyed and I mean destroyed. Not a single wall was standing. There's a great YouTube video of the tornado that hit here as it was forming and touched down. If you would like to watch, search 'Rainsville tornado ef4'. So many people around here are now homeless. It's so sad, but the red cross and churches and even people from other states that came to help have been great. It's emotional for me to see how everyone has pulled together with strangers to help. Everyone here has been effected in some way and everyone here has a story to tell.

I have the privilege of working with Disaster Relief. I am certified for Recovery/Clean up and Mud out. I've been assigned to a chain saw team and I've been dragging logs and limbs and parts of houses/trailers.
I will be going back out tomorrow morning and working in the north Calhoun County Area. the devastation is unbelievable, but the volunteers are unbelievable also in their untiring efforts to bring hope and help to all those affected.
Our prayers go out to all the families who are dealing with the stress of their loss.

I have been off line for two weeks. Life, especially work got overwhelmingly busy. I'm in Auburn, just south and east of the Dadeville/Lake Marting/Camp Hill tornado. We had wind & rain, but no tornados.

My thoughts & prayers are with all who lost property and loved ones.

I've been away because my husband & I headed to the beach to get away from the chaos & destruction for a few days. We live in Tuscaloosa. We are making it through, becoming neighbors with strangers. We hear new incredible stories everyday, both happy & sad. I know it doesn't feel like it at times but God was here on that day. Even in such desolate times, so many lives were saved. In Cullman, my mother is still without power, as is my 85yo grandmother in Huntsville. My heart goes out to each and every one who was affected by the storm, even if your friends, family, & material possessions made it through. The hurt will still last a lifetime.

I live in Franklin County, just north of Phil Campbell. My husband grew up in Phil Campbell. Fortuanately we did not lost any of our family in the storms. We are so blessed! My husbands good friend lost his home, he has a wife and 2 small children. My SIL's best friend lost her home; it was ripped up by the foundation. My cousin's 1st cousin lost her home. The same cousin's friend lost his aunt and uncle. The worst thing was my grandmother's neighbor lost his 10 year old grandson. I have heard so many horror stories that I have just felt sick over it. I have been praying and I have donated lots of things. I am going to make another donation tomorrow. My prayers are with all the storm victims.

First, thank you team for sending spark flowers.

As of today, I'm still only one with electricity. Only reason I have it is I'm with Tallapoosa Electric and everyone else is with REA. They replaced two of the 4 poles broken off. Land is too wet to get to the others (no need at this time anyway) Damage is more than we thought. No worries. Husband wants me to stop telling people we got into the kennel. It was once shower stalls for hunters. He says call it our block house. WHATEVER!

We can not count bodies that we have not recovered. Lake Martin has several homes in the water with owners missing. There is a large section that looks like B'ham. Body count will continue to rise.

So may of our spark friends can not get a message to any of us. I heard that underwear, toothbrush and paste, and combs would/could be used at shelters.

I understand that as of this morning it is no longer rescue, but recovery and they
have brought in the cadaver dogs. 210 so far in Alabama alone...

We are okay here...but it was close enough to scare the bejeebers out of me. I never
get nervous til the hair on the back of my neck stands up. I absolutely was horrified.
We watched it hit Tuscaloosa on the Cam feed with James Spann, and it took me right
back to Marion, Illinois in 1982 when an F4 went thru there. It was just to close for my
comfort, and I guess it was a blessing I didn't know about the ones early in the morning
and yesterday afternoon in Cullman or I would have been a wreck.

We live in Camp Hill. Got into our dog kennel which has 4 cement block walls 4' apart. We kissed lightning and screamed during the train. We lost trees, roofs, but no life. Good for us.
And in case you didn't know this, we were robbed 3 weeks ago. This is not a good month.

I am on a Disaster Relief Team of First Responders. You can not believe the devastation. The last house we worked on today and a tree through the roof and a tree on the resident's car. The lady who owns the home is in UAB with a skull fracture.
Our group goes back out in the morning starting at 7:30 am. I don't know when I have been this tired and achy, but it is worth it when we can help those in need.

Glad that all this mess missed you two!

I really don't know that I've ever been so heartbroken over something like this. Hospitals are filled...morgues are full and there are so many who are unclaimed.... My brother in law sent me a photo of his former apartment building....it's gone, the restaurant in front of it are gone, as is the gas station across the highway.
