Kaiser gave me the best mask I ever had. That was such a blessing. I can flip around it is so soft, I don't have to wake to adjust the mask due to leaks.

My machine is all connected, but so far no problems. When I switched from Blue Shield to Kaiser everything pretty much stayed the same except I can't get Kaiser to send me the extra small nose pillows that worked better.

My machine isn't set up to do that, and I have always been pleased about it. I have seen enough comments from people in the USA on the Sleep Apnea FB team to know that altho' on the one hand it was a good idea, on the other it was a very bad idea in that it gave the Insurance Company far more power to decline treatment. Some of them had their machines taken off then because of it.

Good article. I like NPR.

With my first machine back in the dark ages before computer chips, I saw the doctor monthly and the insurance company rented the machine for me for about two years before actually purchasing it. I think in all that machine cost the insurance company around $5000. Not cost effective since I was compliant on day one. It was also just a reverse vacuum cleaner with a way to adjust pressure. No bells and whistles.

Second machine I had to carry the card in for them to read once a year. Insurance paid for it immediately and I think that one cost them around $500.

Third one is a Kaiser machine and frankly, I never saw a bill for it that I remember. The shock I got though was on the follow up appointment. The tech called and said she had a cancellation, my results looked good and would I like a phone consult right now. I was thrilled not to have to drive. Then she proceeded to tell me all about my compliance and pressure fluctuations. That little machine sends a lot of information.
