Renee, you might want to do some research on what is in the wet ones and if inhaling those fumes could be bad for the sinuses or lungs. I burned my sinuses using alcohol wipes because it was easier than going downstairs.

I use Wet Ones to wipe my mask. Cheaper than what you get from where you get the machine.

Thank you. We are all a team. You have stayed with me to help the new people move forward. Although I think the equipment is a lot better now and I think enough people have cpaps that usually a person can find someone in their circle of friends to commiserate with. Still there is value here to help people be successful.

Had a downturn the last two days. Think I feel better today. Gonna have to watch the pacing today to make sure I don't overdue it again.

A diagnosis of coronary artery disease showed up on my Kaiser page. It just occurred to me that I might be able to find a Spark Page about that or heart issues. My best friend got a pacemaker last year. So I do have her to commiserate with.

I have both a washable and disposable.

Had a great time at the retreat, felt a little wonky on the drive home, so my friend drove. Seemed to feel weaker. Then had severe chest/back pains.. Nitro helped, The EKG and stress test were also wonky. The angiogram showed a little plaque. One doctor called it angina and I overheard the nurse tell someone I was really lucky. The amount of plaque did not indicate angina, but I had a fall several days before and am wondering if I knocked some plaque loose and caused a little blood clot. Anyway, am home now and on the mend more determined than ever to do what the docs say and improve my health. I also have lost several pounds from not eating before all those tests. They also pumped me full of diuretics and blood thinners.

Smart me, I packed my cpap and a clean pair of underwear before I drove 30 miles to the hospital. Just in case.

Mine just has the small disposable one. I set my calendar to change it on the same day every month, but even with the reminder I sometimes don't get it done.

That's what I tell my daughter when she bitches about the house LOL!

I don't think my machine has any washable filters.

Enjoy the beach.

That's the funny part ....... NO it isn't really clean (OR tidy) LOL!

Except for the heat of the summer when my cat slept outside, she sleeps on the bed with me. I hardly ever dust, too, and it does NEED to be done.

You must have a really clean house. My machine sits next to the floor vent for the forced air furnace. The duct work is probably 80 years old in this house. I also sleep with the dog, so lots of doggy dust bunnies collect rapidly. It is good to change out the disposable filter and wash the permanent one monthly for me.

I have only had a Eson2 mask.

I find that when I end up with marks is when my sodium intake was a bit higher than normal ..... not high, just higher than normal.

I've had my CPAP machine for 2 years (and a month LOL!) and I have never had to change my filters. I check them but they are fine. Even the Respiratory Nurse commented on how good they were. She seemed really surprised that they hadn't been changed when I had had the machine nearly a year. I go back to them in a few days so it will be interesting to see what she says then.

Kitty Whiskers. That is such a big problem for people who toss and turn a lot. I kept tightening my mask and making it worse till I discovered if I loosened it it was more apt to reseal itself. I rarely wake up with the whiskers with the new Eson2 mask. And I did like my old one too, but this is such an improvement. One of the great things the Kaiser tech did for me.

I have 2 different nasal pillows, I use one then the next night the other. So, in effect, I'm washing my pillows every other day, they get 1 night's use before I wash them. I don't worry too much if I wear one for 2 nights. They do start to smell stale if I go 3 nights.

I wash everything else weekly.

I find I get kitty lines if I sleep very soundly on a side.

Responding to myself, Kaiser has me on a schedule of cleaning mask and hose every three days. How fast it is to get lazy. My head games became, "Well if Kaiser says it is ok, I can wait another day." For good or bad, I started washing every other day and then every three days. I do think a clean mask makes for better health. The other cool thing about my new cpap is that it sends out an alert to change the filter monthly That is a good reminder because I tend to forget that.

How are the rest of you doing with taking good care of your gear?

This list is a compilation of many sources. Please let us know your routines and how that works for you.

Time to wash and change filters, do a thorough equipment check and cleansing and order replacement parts.

Cleaning checklist:
DAILY: Wash all pieces of mask with soap and water and rinse out hose. Change water in humidifier.
WEEKLY: Scour humidifier tank, wash hose with soapy water, check filters
MONTHLY: Wipe down machine, change and wash filters

Equipment checklist
FILTERS: Are they changed, do you need to order more
HUMIDIFIER TANK: Is it scoured and smelling fresh? Do you need to buy more distilled water?
MASK: Is it washed, does any part need replacing.
HOSE: Are there any air leaks? Have you run soap, mouth wash, vinegar or other approved cleanser through it?
HEAD GEAR: Ignore completely unless it just smells too icky. The less washing the longer the velcro lasts. Have straps lost their spring? Are you waking up with kitty whiskers? It may be time for a new head strap
CPAP MACHINE: Wipe down and use dry paint brush to get dirt and dust out of crevices. The paint brush works well on computer keyboards too.
ELECTRICAL CORDS: Always a good safety idea to check these if they are tucked out of sight. Who knows what the cat has been doing.
OTHER: Do you need a chin strap to keep your mouth closed or cloth liners to protect your skin?
MORE OTHER: Do you need to purchase approved disposable wet cloths in case you need to do a quick cleaning and are just too tired to find a sink and soap.
ANYTHING ELSE???
