We mostly have sweet gherkin pickles. The ones I get aren't sweet but they aren't sour either, and go brilliantly with cheese and/or pork, or with cottage cheese.

My g/son and his fiance and little TJ (21mth old) came to visit me this a/noon. It was lovely to see them.

Wow, those stars all lined up correctly for you.

I have a food find. I love claussen pickles. Don't know if you have anything like them in NZ, but they are refrigerated and organic, and expensive, so I save the juice and often throw cheap pickles in it. Not quite the same but works. Anyway, I had a salad and did not want to throw greasy salad dressing on it and was out of salsa, so I poured my pickle juice on it. So Yummy, now my favorite new dressing.

I am very fortunate in that I don't have a tendency to binge. It sure helps where it comes to regulating the weight LOL!

I got the surprise of my life yesterday. At 1:30A.M. on 19th I ordered new headgear straps for my CPAP machine. I was emailed just after 10a.m. on 19th saying it was being despatched, and yesterday, 20th I received it in the mail before noon. I live on a Rural Delivery and that usually takes longer, AND the package came from Christchurch in the South Island, and had to be flown to Auckland and then go through 2 sorting centres before the RD guy picked it up to deliver to me. I certainly couldn't complain about the service - either the Clinic's OR the courier/postal on this occasion.

Love it when we get a reset on our static weight. When I first joined TOPS I dropped 13 pounds and that weight seems to be where I top out now when I am on a gain. So that is good. However, I was in onederland, but I had lost that wait during the severe vertigo. As soon as I started feeling better, I gained back ten pounds and set at that weight for a few years. Then it crept up with all the good food at Rose Valley and then another 15-20 after DH died. I feel good right now. I so badly wanted to binge last night, but stayed with my binge free schedule. In fact, I went to bed and slept for ten hours. Not sure that was the best strategy, but it beat eating another 3000 calories. So for today, I am feeling really good about the program and glad I am on it. New set point needs to be in onederland. That is my goal for this year.

I am fortunate in that when I lost the weight, I only gained a few lb when I went on Holiday to Canada 3 years ago, and a lot of that was fluid weight from 14hrs straight in the plane, each way. Since then my weight has stayed static give or tack a lb.

I dropped a half shoe size when I lost 50 pounds too. Now, I am trying to lose 30 of that same 50.

Even when I had lost 50lb I never 'felt' thinner, and often had to remind myself I was because I was wearing clothes much MUCH smaller than previously. Even now, 60lb lighter, I still don't feel it. Altho' I don't have fat feet and never have had, I now mostly wear a 1/2 size smaller shoe since my weight-loss. I guess without the extra weight on them, they aren't being flattened so much when I stand LOL!

Hopefully, she will have an epiphany or a goal that is more important than comfort food sooner than later. I may not always be successful, but I keep trying. I weigh less and eat better than I ever did before 2008. I think that is when I joined SP and started slowly changing things.

Okay, here is a weird aside. I have lost about 15 pounds since May 1st. Clothes feel a little different but I don't feel thinner to myself except for my neck fat. I have been sitting at the computer too long and just massaged the back of my neck and it feels less fat to me. LOL Good bye dowagers hump. Heading out to walk Buds now. Have a healthy day and a restful night.

The s-in-law with the pancreatic cancer is very overweight and a diabetic. She has never paid attention to eating anywhere near a healthy diet, often resorting to rubbish meals (doesn't like cooking) - I have often wondered how much of it was her lifestyle leading to the cancer, and obviously the diabetes, which is mostly uncontrolled with the blood results coming back regularly quite a bit higher rather than 'just a little bit higher'

Glad you were able to help BIL with SIL. Also thinking a lot about your other SIL with the looming surgery. Hope it all works out perfectly for her. I am still reading on the Eat To Live book that the doctor prescribed me and Joel Furhman keeps talking about diet and pancreatic cancer. He seems to think that if a person can completely embrace the whole foods diet, a lot of these things can be avoided and/or reduced. He cites a lot of resources, but I am not up to reading scholarly journals to form my own opinion. Do hope the doctors encourage her to heal from the inside too.

Back to pools. My niece has one in Henderson Nv. and like your friend, she loves having people over to enjoy it.

The last time I went swimming was about 32 years ago, AND I live by the water, in a sheltered bay, so we don't get the waves LOL!

I had an unexpected call this a.m. from my brother-in-law (Late Hubby's brother) - his wife had gone to the Dr yesterday just for repeat script, but while there had an angina attack/mild heart attack. She ended up going to hospital in the ambulance. My b-in-law phoned to see if I could go down with him to either picker her up, or take her stuff down to her. He is quite disabled and isn't able to walk very far, or up-hill, and certainly not while carrying/pulling/pushing anything. He uses 2 walking sticks. I went down with him and we brought her back. Fortunately I was able to show him where to park so there was NO walking involved for him, and his wife was right there waiting. She has to go back down and be there by 8a.m. on Monday for a Treadmill test. Not the best time to have to travel when you live over an hour away at uncluttered travel time. This will be peak-hour travel.

My other sister-on-law (brother's ex-wife) has been told that they aren't going to do her surgery for Pancreatic cancer now. The risk is too high re her dying on the table because it is a lengthy and very complex operation. They are still going to remove her Gallbladder, tho'. She was told that it is highly unlikely that the cancer will kill her, that she is far more likely to die WITH it, not because of it.

My CPAP pressure is 11. When I first got it the report stated it might need to be increased because I didn't get long enough sleep after it got to that level before they had to wake me re the end of the study. On my subsequent visits to the OP Clinic, they have said that it appears to be just right for me.

Pools are a lot of work.

Had my consult with the Kaiser Health Coach today. She was quite encouraging. Gave me a couple ideas. I bought organic peanut butter for a healthy recipe and have been obsessing about it. She suggested I put it in another container. I happen to have the perfect container to put the whole jar in and then I chucked it all in the fridge so it should last quite awhile and I can use it for cooking and slushies and not for eating straight out of the jar.

Also went out to lunch and had a fabulous Santa Fe Bowl. I think I can replicate it. The owners of a much loved restaurant in town had to close their business because the owners of the building decided to double the rent. Also years ago another much loved restaurant was thriving on the highway till the owner retired. That restaurant has languished since often sitting empty. It has also changed owners and management a couple times. The food remained awful. Just got word that the town restaurant owners are now cooking and managing the Highway restaurant. Which is where I went and where I found fabulous food. I am so happy. Of course I had to half the order and bring it home for supper too. Woohoo.

Since I have lost ten+ pounds, my cpap pressure has dropped down to 12. It had been running at a high 13 and sometimes 14.

Swimming is great! I have a friend who lets me use her pool. No heater though so it took until this 100 degree week to get it warmed up enough to be comfortable.

It does feel a bit like the research I used to do for my job. I am actually enjoying it.

Swam this morning and it was the first time I was able to freestyle swim two full laps. My breathing is so much better. Don't know if it is the lowered weight, or I am just getting my strength back. So the good news, is that today, I feel as good as I did last summer.

Hot, hot hot. Just turned on the air conditioner. It is 81 in the house and it is only 11am. So other than ten item/ten minute chores, I am staying pretty quiet for the rest of today. Glad I already swam. Eeek....there are two ladies out walking the ball park in this heat and neither are particularly young. I might take Buds to the dog park so he can swim in the creek.

Stupid trivia: I put the Carnival luggage tag on my cpap case and put my passport in my fanny pack. Closer to being ready. Thirteen more days.

Loud snoring and observed difficulty breathing.....surprisingly......

You know that just doesn't seem so surprising when your living with it. Funny though. Hope you get your other records.

Doctor was pleased I was willing to work with him to go the nutritional route. I have two or three books to read and several documentaries to watch. Currently watching Forks over Knives. I have seen it before. Eat To Live by Dr. Furhman is boring me to tears. Luckily, I checked that one out on Library2Go. All theory, no substance. However, I do like Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and I bought that one.

Second week on the Resisting Binge Eating program and I actually stayed off the scale for the week and lost another 8/10th pound at TOPS. I also had fewer binges. I attribute that to not letting the scale dictate me.

Still waiting for information on the Holter home heart monitor and I also had an ultrasound on the carotid arteries. That info should come in about five days she said.

I am also suppose to contact the sleep clinic and see if I can get the readings for that Thursday, I had the chest pains.

I had to laugh yesterday. I had requested a copy of my records from my last appointment, but they sent me the one from my first appointment --- the Sleep Over one a couple years ago. I was reading the comments, and this is what I had a laugh at

"Reason for Study: Sleep onset insomnia. Post-traumatic stress disorder on citalopram. Traumatic brain injury. No reported daytime sleepiness. Loud snoring and observed difficulty breathing."

THEN came this bit :-)

Comments: Somewhat surprisingly she had quite severe OSA ...."

neurontins, pain meds, and things like prozac all need to be weaned slowly. The only risk with this one is the same risk I had before going into the hospital. Still, I looked again and although everyone else said it lowered cholesterol. (my cholesterol is good) Healthline says it also reduces plaque which I have a little. Maybe, I will ask the doctor. I am starting to have muscle pain I didn't before. But other than that, I feel so much smarter without it.

I wonder if it is also that many of us are on Facebook with other groups, for me mostly people I know in real life. I enjoy getting to know people here, but there isn't that urgency to check up so often. Cathy, I do hope you continue to heal. Check with your doctor before dropping a medication. Some you can just drop and others you need to decrease gradually. I don't know which ones.

Wow that was big like Organized Life big. I think the most we had on this team was around 10 to fifteen people posting on a regular basis with more that would check in briefly and move on and come back when they needed a little support.

As a Co-Moderator of Dealing with Depression, I used to respond to around 30 new posts on that team alone, just about every day. Now we are lucky to get 2-3 new posts in a week, and that team has well in excess of one million members.

Good point. SP is not as active as it was back in 2008. Even the really big active teams like Organized Life and the Photography team are small too. But then WW and TOPS both have wellness websites. I see plenty of others advertised too. I think some of the issue here is the excessive advertising and the need to keep changing everything. Chases some people off and attracts others.

Aspirin was prescribed. I was able to fall asleep w/o the ibuprofen. Drove an hour round trip to drop off monitor today. I felt so good, that my friend and I went dress shopping for my cruise. I even bought one and a cute sparkly wrap to dress up my dress slacks. Then we went out to lunch and stopped at a nursery on the way home. I am really happy, I am continuing to heal.

Been struggling with tremors and chills. Wondered if it was the statins. That isn't a side effect. I kind of want to stop taking them for a few days and see if it helps. I have about three of the other side effects. One being brain fog and memory loss. I thought maybe my speech issues and brain fog might have been due to whatever happened and because I was feeling so bad, but I feel better, and am still having issues.

I'm not into games or challenges, either.

I had to laugh ...... "I guess all those CPAP machines are working, this team seems to have gone to sleep."

Going by most other teams I would have to think that most of the members have suddenly started using CPAP Machines, too LOL!

I'm not a big fan of the games I see on other teams, so that's fine with me. If your doctor didn't recommend the aspirin you might skip it with the heart monitor. Not sure if there is a connection. I'm just sitting at my computer with Samwise curled up on my arms. He is very relaxed, but soon Frodo will show up wanting to play.

I think the equipment is so much better along with better tech support that people really don't need us anymore other than an occasional question. Which I am okay with. Which is why I don't post games, challenges and QODs. This is a health and wellness team. And I appreciate that you have stayed on so we can catch the people that need a little help adjusting. Thank you.

So tonight I am sleeping in a home heart monitor. Not sure how that is going to work since I toss and turn a lot. I also need some ibuprofen for my back. Wondering if I should skip the aspirin.

How was your day?

Karen, Welcome to the team. I am so grateful Kris was here to communicate with you. I lose the threads on this team periodically and when I realize I haven't got an alert in awhile, I usually check it out. This is how I found you today.

It sounds like you had the sleep study already and that you are going for the titration portion. Or are you just getting your cpap? Did they already determine what your pressure should be?

Years ago when I got my cpap, it was one pressure, no card readers and the masks were ill fitting and rigid. So I ended up with indentations in my forehead and lines on my cheeks. It hurt and I would throw it off in my sleep. As soon as I woke, I put it back on because, I felt so much better and smarter in the morning despite the war of the masks.

Now I have a most lovely Eson2 mask that is quite comfortable. I learned how to breathe through my nose and keep my mouth shut.

I also could not sleep on my back, but with the better sleep, I have less back pain and often find myself on my back. I still wake up and flip over several times a night, but it doesn't seem to impact my quality of sleep.

Another plus, is that I no longer have six months of sinus infections every spring along with the colds and allergies. Breathing filtered air helps my immune system cope.

I like your page with all the dragon pictures. Very colorful. You will have to tell us more about Mina. I am thinking she is a dog since you mentioned a leash in your blog. You can see Buddy on my page. He is my exercise coach.

Hope you love your new cpap as much as I love mine.

It's funny how much we change how we lay when sleeping as we age.

It is funny you say that about sleeping on your back. I slept on m stomach most of the time I was growing up and now wish sometimes I still could. When I did my sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea, they said I was on my sides all night. Once in a while I wake up on my back.

Today was a very long day to me and I amexhausted. Feel like I could sleep for a week. Look forward to wait up someday soon and feeling energetic and ready to go.

Having experienced very bad anemia in the past, myself, I know how tired it made me. In the week-ends I slept all the time and only woke in time for meals or the loo.

The Respiratory Physiologist told me that the mask depends on what type of sleeper you are, re mouth or nose.

They set monitor leads up on your head, under your nose, legs, etc. and put an oxygen meter on your finger to see what is happening and how long any apnea periods last. I always slept on a low pillow, but I have had to go up to a higher one because I tend to clench my jaw in my sleep and my lower teeth were starting to loosen. I found that on the higher pillow I am not clenching my jaw as much. I have arthritis of the spine and scoliosis so it generally made back-sleeping more difficult. Funny thing is, I was always a side-sleeper and my late hubby said I was generally on my side, but when I had the study done they said I slept on my back a fair bit, too. I am often on my back when I wake, now.

Thanks Kris! I am looking forward to sleeping better and having more energy. I know I can do this. It will be interesting to see if they have me use the full mask of what they recommend. I have back problems so sleep on a wedge and on my side. I cannot sleep on my back.. They said it would be about two weeks after the sleep study before I get my machine at home. I am also fighting low iron levels due to anemia and very IF Iron infusions. Hopefully with everything treated I will have some energy again. I want to be active this summer and fall.

Hi Karen. Welcome to the team.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I brought my machine home from the hospital with me right after the overnight Sleep Study.

I have had absolutely no problems with my CPAP machine or getting used to wearing the mask. I think if you go into it relishing the thought of more energy and better long-term health you will adapt far more easily than if you go into it with trepidation.

Good luck,
Kris

Hi Everyone, my name is Karen and I am new to the team. I have dealt with Restless Leg Syndrome for a long time and am now newly diagnosed with sleep apnea. I go for my trial sleep study for CPAP machine and make in two weeks. A little nervous about all of this. I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing this journey.

Just add a little of the spices at a time (especially chili) until you get the flavour/taste that you want. Remember that some of those spices tend to develop more over time, and also, if you 'fry them off' with a little oil and meat (if you eat meat) or with the vege's, that will develop the flavour more, too.

One combination I like is Turmeric and Paprika. I mix it half and half. I mostly use it in Hungarian Goulash.

The one combination spice that I buy already mixed is Moroccan Spice, altho' sometimes I use Moroccan flavoured canned tomatoes if I am making a particularly large batch, but I find the tomatoes are a stronger flavour than my normal 'bulk cooking' batch. That is really nice done with a variety of chopped up veges and some strong-tasting dried baking apricots (not those 'jelly-type' ones) and shredded chicken and chickpeas.

Yep, I looked at the ingredient list on the back of the packet and I have most of the ingredients in the kitchen. Maybe I need to be brave and experiment some. Just not sure of quantities, but that would be half the fun.

Do you have to read Danvers the Rat a book???? LOL!

I like Autumn best - it is the temperature that I like.

I've never used commercial stuff for chili, etc. altho' I have eaten it. Everything I make is from scratch.

I had Savoury Mince (ground beef) tonight to go with 40% lower carb potatoes, Kumara, Buttercup, parsnip and cabbage. The Savoury Mince was loaded with veges, too.

The trees are turning pink and the daffodils are blooming. I love spring. Although I always tell people Fall is my favorite time of year. I guess, I just like the seasonal changes. A good strong winter always makes me appreciate the nicer weather. So here I am waxing on about seasons and weather. I did get out in the sun and breeze and pulled some weeds.

I can't remember if I told you I am babysitting Danvers the Rat. She has settled in nicely.

Made a really good white bean and chicken chili today. Used the organic seasoning packet and followed their directions. It is a keeper. Not sure of the calorie count. Probably should do some calculations. .....I'm back. It is about 350 calories per serving. This one is a keeper. Now I just need to find the seasoning packets again at the store.

Not sure what is happening to art in schools. All teachers taught art concepts and art in the 60s. We had art supplies. We also sang and practiced rhythms outside of music class.

An exchange teacher from the Outback of Australia taught art and he had to use whatever recycled supplies the parents sent to school with the kids. Lots of sculpture and mixed media with whatever objects might have landed in the trash. He also taught several age groups and had to go to the outhouse with a stick before the students to flush out spiders and snakes. His stories were great fun. He was thinking about staying in Beaverton. Liked all the supplies and lack of poisonous critters.

He inspired me to be more creative with art and to appreciate having sinks in the class and flush toilets.

Janey, that is really sad about the art. We used to get art in science. I remember replicating all kinds of things for science. It was great fun. We also had art classes at least once a week and this was with our regular teachers.

I do hide the rocks. I belong to several rock groups on facebook. Process is go hiking and find good rocks, paint them, post pictures on FB and hide them in plain sight and hope someone will post they found it. Or just let them run off and do their own thing. All my dog rocks I painted for the dog park ran away one night. Hope they found a loving home.

Your shamrock rocks like fun. I've done rock painting with my granddaughters, they don't get any art projects in school, so they've enjoyed it.

Do you have a treasure hunt kind of thing with your shamrock rocks?

Today was quite warm. I decided I was going to wash my mask straps - first time in a long time. They kinda look a wee bit different colour .......... I wonder why emoticon It just took me over an hour to figure out how to put it all back together emoticon

Shoot, I forgot about that. I think that is why I wrote the months instead last time. Trying to be conscious, but couldn't remember why. LOL Hope you will be able to find us. I think we are actually going to have summer next week. Snow last week and temps of 66 degrees farenheit. I checked. Almost 19 degrees in celcius next week. I walked Buds this morning without a jacket. Kind of a typical spring day in that it was sunny and then raining alternately. I do love talking about the weather. I know I am strange.

Been painting shamrock rocks to hide around this week. My favorite is of an owl on a limb with a top hat and wings with shamrocks and four leaf clovers on them. I also kind of like my pot of gold pot with shamrocks growing out of it. At the moment I was trying to paint a galaxy rock since I had some paint left over from a postcard I painted and the colors are right. Maybe I will get pictures when I get them all done.

Good morning folks. it is sunny here today and that always makes me happy. I slept nine hours last night. Don't know what that was about. Guess I needed it.

Oh Wow, the micro cpaps are small. That would be even better than using mine without the humidifier.
