Shellshere2011,
Another tool that SparkPeople Fitness has is the Mileage Tracker Tool. Keep track of your minutes and your miles. Enter your miles and minutes in and it will do the rest.

You can go to the following link to help you add it to your fitness tracker page:

One word of caution: Be sure not to enter your minutes in your miles and your miles in your minutes. I have done that a couple of times and I broke the 1 minute mile barrier. :)

The Sparkpeople fitness tracker tracks walking based on minutes per hour. If you walk for 2 miles, just take the time spent, divide by two, and use whatever is closest.

If you want to know more precisely how fast you are going, one of my favorite resources is the web site www.caloriesperhour.com. It has a bunch of activity calculators. One allows you to determine your walking speed based on the distance and time. Then you can add your weight and it will give you approximate calories burned. That can be entered in the fitness tracker as a manual entry.

I've read the best way to get an accurate measure of calories burned is a heart rate monitor. I haven't gotten around to getting one so I focus more on minutes spent and try to mix things up. I think the important thing is to find the routine that motivates you best.

I cannot make myself be thin today, but I CAN be healthier by making a few smart choices. I focus on what needs to be done today and tomorrow takes care of itself.

Ok I just started walking around my neighborhood track, and my daughter's track coach tells me walking around that track 4 times equals 1 mile, so I have been walking around it 8 times for 2miles. My question is this, how do I track how many calories I have burned, so I can put it in my fitness tracker. I go at a pretty good clip, and I have even started walk/running around it. So I would like to know from my Cincinnati buddies, do any of you know how I can find out how much I burn doing this activity?
