Back to school here. One son started on 8/7, so it's not the whole gang at once, but my youngest is in Kindergarten this year, so I have my 2 youngest in the same school. I know what you mean about the 'lasts' Elaine... My youngest is now my last one in school, so it's kind of like the last of the 'firsts' here with him. He is much more focused than the other 3, so I expect he will have it easier than his brothers. He is easier than the other boys, so a bit more bittersweet to see him go...but he is quite studious even at 5, and so ready for school.
Now, I just need to work hard to dig out from the accumulation of summer with them home...

How is it possible that summer is now over..... emoticon emoticon Kids are back to school today and we now have the start of a new school year. And a reminder that emoticon fall is on its way.

This school year is bittersweet for me. My oldest is now a senior and will be going through all the "lasts". I am having a very hard time with it. I want to see him grow and can't wait until he starts his life but on the other hand, I want him to stay with me. Sigh.... emoticon

So for this 2017/2018 school year, I will be celebrating all those lasts! I also have my middle son starting his junior year. He is almost on his way out as well. And then my daughter is starting her last year of middle school. Time really needs to slow down! emoticon

Great photos Elaine!

The cabinet guy was here to finish the back splash today (wrong measurements were written down). It looks great to have that finished! While he was here, he fixed some of the trim that the floor guy didn't do--or didn't do right, and he even put my sliding screen door back in the track! The cabinet guy is definitely the better craftsman--and nice too! Floor is okay, but not great.

We are planning to leave in the morning...and got a notice on our door tonight that our street will be closed tomorrow...possibly as early as 7 am. My hubby will hitch the camper at 6 am, and then park in the school lot that's across the soccer field from our house...and we will load the last of it by wagon...sigh...

Well, I think my little boys are FINALLY asleep! Some nights I really want to run away from home with their bedtime behavior!

On to my next task!

Oh man Lori... it sounds like a ton of stress dealing with the remodel. That is the hard part, you plan a remodel and then run into extra stress and snags along the way. But just keep thinking about how nice it will be when it is all done!

Have fun on your much needed trip!

I have been getting little sneak peeks from our photographer on Jacob's senior picture session. Here are a few she captured:

I wasn't ready for a photo op but I still think the one of him and me turned out great! I can't wait to see more!

Have a great day MN Sparkers!!!!

The last details of the kitchen are scheduled to be finished tomorrow...oops, hubby just told me that there are more problems with the floor...sigh...at any rate, I'm glad I don't have to look at the ugly stripes had before.

Elaine--sounds like a fun weekend...and busy too! We did some errands in preparation for vacation, and started putting things in the kitchen cabinets. Still working on that.

Social worker visit this morning...then back to work cleaning, packing, loading the camper.

Got caught up on some paperwork, and now am more than ready for bed.

Lori - How exciting to be going through a kitchen remodel! It is added stress when the workers are not installing things up-to-par. Hopefully the rest of it goes smoothly. Have fun on your trip.... sounds exciting!

Max - I think a gym membership for mother/daughter time is a great idea! My daughter loves when I take her especially since my gym has a pool. (She is a fish!) And I miss Girl Scouts... my daughter had to drop that once she joined a competition gymnastics. She was just too busy and was missing all the meetings. Going to camp was one of her favorite memories!

We had a super busy weekend. Friday night was a mother/daughter date. We went out to dinner at IHop and then I took her shopping. (Spent WAY too much at Pink but she is all set for school now.) Then Saturday I spent the whole day cleaning and doing laundry. It was even more cleaning/laundry when my hubby and son came home around 1:00 from Tomahawk (Boy Scout Camp). Then we had to vacuum/wash the car, wash the tent, and everything had to be shook out. (They sleep in open canvas tents so little spiders can sneak home with their gear.) Very happy to have them home though! I missed them tons!

Then on Sunday I spent pretty much the whole day at Cub Foods bagging groceries for my oldest sons Cross Country team. We were there from 10:00-4:00. After that, we had his senior picture session out at a local park. I can't wait to see how they turned out! He was taking some cool photos.

Now it is back to grind.... can Friday be here, please!

The floor guy came back after my hubby called about it. there was a lump under one of the tiles--they had left a nail! good thing they are not surgeons! It's better, but still not great...glad it is only going to be walked on and not on display. 9 year old kept complaining about how they smelled (he's right) and wehn he saw that their truck said, 'floor masters' he loudly said, 'They are not actually FLOOR masters!"
Two older boys both had staff to take them down to the Viking's training camp today'! They both really enjoyed it. I took the younger 2 to the MN zoo--lots of walking!
Then back home to prepare supper, finish laundry, and work on getting a bit more of the kitchen reorganized.

Just about ready for bed now!

Lori, Hope they come back on time to fix the trim. How frustrating. Great to hear about your youngest enjoying his class. Future engineer or scientist you have there.

The flooring went into the kitchen today. I'm not impressed with the installers...they came late, and with the time they needed to allow for glue drying, they were here much later than I expected...and then they had to rush with the trim part, so one section needs to be redone, and the trim is unfinished...sigh...

My youngest went to a preschool chemistry class (community ed) for 3 mornings this week. He is quite intrigued by science and math, so it was a good fit for him.

I'm really feeling spent after all the stress of kids and flooring installers...ready to head off to bed!

Elaine, your MS Tram bike adventure sounds amazing. I wish I was more confident riding on my bike. I scare easily when I have to bike alongside cars. So fun that you will do it again next year. How can it be that your son is going to be a senior already?! I'm just freaking out a bit because it is the last year of middle school for my oldest. I can't imagine a senior. I hope you enjoy looking at colleges and savoring every moment with him before he spreads his wings and flies.

Lori, your kitchen renovation sounds wonderful. I hope to renovate our kitchen and bathrooms next year. Enjoy your trip to OR. Hope you can squeeze some sleep in there sometime before you leave.

I've been busying driving the girls around to their various activities. It was nice to have a little break with the youngest off at Girl Scout camp for 4 days/3 nights. Needed the mental break since she always keeps me on my toes. I'm considering joining a gym and having my 14 year old do it too. She isn't involved in any sports so I'd love to get some time at the gym scheduled every week so I don't feel like a nag asking her to take a walk several times a week.

Wow Elaine, the bike trip sounds like fun! My 9 year old wants to go to Hayward, WI...but we will be heading the other direction.

Kitchen renovation here...new pantry, cabinet refacing, and new floor. No more ugly orange/lemon-lime stripes and now I can keep the kitchen things in the kitchen, instead of the coat closet or bedroom!

We leave in a week for our annual trek to OR.The kids are excited...I would be too if I wasn't so tired. Hopefully, I'll get my kitchen reorganized and camper packed, so I can get a little sleep.

Well, back to work on refilling cabinets.

Whoa... it has been a while since I checked in and it looks the same from other members of the team as well.

Summer has been slipping away and it is hard to believe that it is already AUGUST! Where is summertime going to? I feel like we haven't even done half the stuff I want to do and now we are thinking about school starting back up.

We have enjoyed summer so far though. Went to Hayward, WI for a nice long family vacation. Seen a black bear which was awesome! Hubby and I just completed the MS Tram - bike across Minnesota. We did 260 miles in 5 days biking from Alexandria to Long Prairie. Then Long Prairie to Wadena. Then Wadena to Fergus Falls. Stayed 2 days there with a Fergus Falls loop. Then from Fergus Falls back to Alexandria. Such a fun event and I can't wait to do it again next year!

Now we are preparing for my son's senior year of High-School with college visits, senior pictures, and lots of tears.

What is everyone else up to?

Hi all,

Max--it was great to have a diverse sign language team--we had a teen, and tween and my 8 year old. Video is here, if you're interested: https://www.facebook.com/yellocran/posts/1
0100850079940419

The signing team comes up mid song and my son and I are on the end closest to the camera.

Ken--glad you could check in. I hear you on the busy days--same here! Keep us posted on your MRI results.

Got some time out in the garden today...I love when it's warm enough to be out, but still cool enough to be comfortable when active.

Tired now.

Hey, all! Sorry I've been absent! This last month has been really crazy/hectic and I haven't been able to spend enough time on here other than to quickly go through my friend feeds and do my nutrition/exercise posts/etc. Just wanted to wish all of you that are celebrating, a happy Easter and Passover. Spent much of today with extended family for an Easter brunch and then took a nice bike ride afterwards. Will try to catch up here more some time soon. Had MRIs yesterday, so going to be anxious about that until I get the results on Tuesday. But, I'm also looking forward to seeing Wicked Tuesday night with my partner, my sister and her husband. Should be fun!

Lori - sounds like a great day. I bet your 8 year old was adorable - what a great addition to your team. Love the energy young people bring to various areas of our lives.

We had brunch out with family in the morning and then our family went to the park to walk around a small lake and then let our 8 year old play on the playground. A little windy but could totally handle that in exchange for the beautiful sunshine!

Have a great week everyone!

Ooh! the cupcakes look yummy Max!
It was a lovely day--inside and out! I got to sing, ring bells and sign during 2 worship services at church this morning. My 8 year old joined our signing team, and it was quite encouraging. He has a great sense of rhythm and an infectious smile, so his joy and energy spread to others quite easily!
After church, we let the boys play at a park and then went to my Uncle's house for a big family dinner. There were a good number of cousins to play with, so the kids had a great time. I enjoyed seeing extended family as well.

Having boys means that as soon as we get home, they expect supper, even though we all had a big dinner barely 2 hours earlier. I held them off until later, and then we had popcorn and apples before bed.

And now, I'm about ready for bed too.

I hope everyone had a great Easter!

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've been on this thread...
I was sick in bed last Monday, and didn't go to work on Tuesday. I've been moving slower than usual, so just now beginning to feel like I am back to my routine craziness. I had a stomach bug, so lost a few pounds, and actually feel better this week than before i was sick.

My son was a little disappointed in his 5th place finish at the Pinewood Derby, but I was proud of him for going--he was the only one in his den who showed up...don't know if others were sick, busy or whatever, but it was a fun morning, and the kids enjoyed watching everyone's car race. And, my son got a trophy at the end, so it was good.

We went to Robot Day at 'The Works' museum on Saturday. It's the main reason we have a membership there--the boys love it--especially my youngest, who is a budding engineer. One display let the kids build a robotic vehicle with K'nex pieces, and the instructor there was impressed with my youngest...and even more impressed to learn that he is still in preschool!

Now on to Easter prep--lots of music fun for me. I get to ring hand bells and sing in choir on Sunday, and my 8 year old and I get to be in a sign language group for the final choir song. I love the visual story that signing adds to the music!

Max--we often shorten or cancel April track practices due to weather. Starting later this year, due to late Easter and weather concerns, so the first practice for us won't be until next week.
Well, I'm starting to nod off, so off to bed I go.

Lori

Elaine - Vacation sounds wonderful! Enjoy and I hope the weather cooperates for you. Our house is getting back to normal, but we're going to rearrange furniture and always have more to clean and sort. I was wondering what to do with my day off on Friday while my husband works, but there's plenty to keep me busy and out of trouble!

Lori - I hope you and your family have been doing well and that the pinewood derby was much fun!

Max - I'm impressed with the track coaching - sounds like they are really working hard and will learn a lot!

I had high hopes for running/biking this month, but played a hockey tournament this weekend plus my regular league game...5 games in 3 days was a wee bit too much. I'm hoping to get in a gentle walk tonight if the weather isn't too bad and convince my body that I'm not always so mean to it.

Have a great week, everyone!

Mmmmm.... emoticon ..... love them! I have been making a few recipes that involve peppers and we love to eat them raw as well. So there is usually some in the fridge. I can't wait until we can start growing our own in the garden! My favorite to eat raw are the red, orange, or yellow. I don't mind eating the green raw too but just love the other colors more.

My daughter wanted to sign up for track but with gymnastics practice, we didn't think she would have enough time. My boys though are in track and it is fun having them in the same sport. Jacob does the distance running and then Andrew does the long jump and triple.

I have been a busy bee with spring cleaning. Hoping to get more done over the next two days before we leave on vacation. Then next week finishing up the rest. Tonight's plan... going through clothes and boxing up donations.

Have a great day everyone!
Elaine

Katie - Hope the sorting, cleaning and move go well.

Lori - How did it go at the Pinewood Derby? Way to survive Spring Break with little PCA support!

Elaine - Your spring break sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to read your blog
about it and see photos. Enjoy your time checking out Grand Portage State Park. High Falls is so pretty.

Ken - Hope things are going well for you.

We had our first 2nd-3rd grade track practice Monday night. We shortened it from an hour to a 1/2 hour due to the chilly rain. That was probably good because some of the girls were already tired just after our half hour. My daughter is pretty active but she isn't used to running the 400M/800M - usually she just sprints here and there, short distances. So the next morning she said she felt a little sore. Trying to make the girls understand that they have to pace themselves is difficult. They want to try to run the longer distances full speed and for those who haven't run since last season that is difficult.

Went to Fresh Thyme and picked up lots of veggies. Both girls thought the red peppers were extra sweet and crisp. Love fresh veggies!!
emoticon

Have a fantastic rest of the week everyone!

Good Morning MN Sparkers!

It is so hard to believe that it is already April! But I am so ready for warm weather! Saturday was wonderful being out in the yard cleaning it up and doing spring cleaning. The sunshine and warmth makes me happy that is for sure! emoticon

This weekend my kids start their spring break so we are leaving on Saturday to stay up in Two Harbors for a few days. I can't wait! I love being by Lake Superior and hiking should be a lot of fun. We are making plans to hopefully drive up to the border and check out Grand Portage State Park. One state park we haven't been to yet. We will also make stops in Grand Marais, Lutsen, and Cascade River State Park. I also can't wait to show my hubby and kids Palisade Head. I went there last year and the views are breath taking.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi All,
Max--the Timberwolves game sounds like fun. Crunch put on a show for the Special Olympics basketball competition over the weekend--so fun! My older boys play basketball, and it is fun to cheer them on. We have a break now, and then in April, we will start track season--my favorite sport.

Rather quiet day today...did some music and reading this morning, and then the boys set up an obstacle course in the back yard after lunch. They had fun and we all enjoyed the great weather.

Tomorrow is the district finals for the Pinewood Derby, so my little cub scout is excited.

And now, having survived the week of spring break with very little PCA support, I'm going to write some music before bed...even if my house is still a mess!

Lori - glad your hip is feeling better! Sounds like you had a good day with the owl and the library, even if you didn't get to watch Strawberry Shortcake. I used to love that one! I named one of my stuffed animals Pupcake as a kid. I still have him somewhere. Side note - what do grownups do with their old stuffed animals!? They are too well-loved to be donated, but it seems so harsh to throw them away.

Max - Did the kids howl with Crunch? So much fun. Looks like Rubio had a good game and the home team got a win - awesome! Hopefully you and your daughter can play some hoops this summer and see if she likes it. I was never much good at sports but I love them and have found a place for my not-quite-talent in a women's hockey league where I skate with and against people at my level so I can contribute.

Happy Friday, all! My parents are closing on their new house today so will be moving out next week. I have a lot of sorting and cleaning to do!

Lori, the library program sounds like it was wonderful. How special for your son to see the screech owl. Yay for the walk to get in some extra fitness. Glad your hip is feeling better.

Katie, hope you and your husband have a good time at the reception.

Took the girls to the Timberwolves game tonight - we usually go when the Girl Scouts offer discount tickets. It was fun to see my youngest (8 years old) really get into it. I told her basketball is my favorite sport so she is thinking she may try it. She is short and fast so I think she would make a great guard. I'm not going to push her to try it but I secretly hope she does and that she loves it. My oldest hates sports - kind of like my husband - so I have never had the pleasure of being a parent cheering in the stands. I have to go my cousins' games to do that.

The library program was great! It was the Audubon Center of the North Woods. My 8 year old thought about birds in the north woods, and was hopeful they would have a screech owl--and they did! We've had some rough behavior days recently, so I told them I got to pick the video and if they didn't do a good job at the library, I might be likely to choose Strawberry Shortcake...that didn't appeal to my boys, so they did well and I chose one about how they build garbage trucks. So, some new information, a new video, and new books--all good for a week off from school. After lunch, we took a walk, so I added a little extra to my fitness minutes :).

Chiropractor with 2 of my boys this evening--my hip is beginning to feel better, and I could feel a difference tonight. Then to Walmart to let my oldest son buy his lunchbox snacks, and finally home.

The last boy is on his way to bed, so I get a little time with yarn :).

Katie--I hope your reception goes well! Enjoy the time with your hubby!

Max and Lori - thanks for the support! It's nice to know others understand about the stack of paperwork. This weekend, we're going to print and sign everything and get the full packet together. And then I'm sure I'll need to go on a run to relieve some of the stress/anxiety/pressure!

Lori, sounds like you had an extra busy day! Hopefully you can relax a bit as the weekend approaches.

I'm going to a reception tonight. It's work-related, but I couldn't find anyone else to go with me, so my husband is coming with me. Since we have to be fairly dressed up, it feels like date night!

Have a great day!

Katie--I too remember adoption paperwork--it was both annoying and exciting! Such a combination of emotions in the process! We use Dakota county Libraries, and they make great use of MN legacy funding. I like so many things they do--and free and fun is always great! Tomorrow they are having a presentation by the Audubon Society, and I have one who especially enjoys animals--particularly birds. They have quite a bit this week, since it's spring break.

Busy here, especially for a week off from school. 8 year old had an appt in St. Paul yesterday, and then went to tune up his Pinewood Derby car. It was SO nice to play outside after supper.

Today the boys enjoyed legos, since it wasn't as warm. Then we had church tonight. They had a special program for the kids--a juggler, who is fun, and then activities to go with their take home packets. It was hard to get the boys to leave when it was over. I had choir, and an extra hand bell rehearsal in preparation for Easter.

Now I'm tired and ready for bed...I sure wish my kids would sleep later than 7am!

Katie, way to recommit. Excited for you and the adoption process. I remember filling out the paperwork (6+years ago). It seemed never ending but totally worth it in the end. Good luck with it all.

Hi all! I just had my physical on Monday for adoption paperwork and got the, "Hey, have you heard of BMI?" from my doctor. Oops. Seems the slight upward creeping of the scale is finally too much. Time to recommit to Spark and the rest of healthy life. I saw an article on the danger of yo-yo dieting and am trying to make a good plan so I'm not a yo-yo. I also need to get my bike tuned up so I can bike to work a few days a week. I figure that will help with stress because I don't like to bike with my laptop so I'll have to leave work at work. What a concept! I'll be around and am excited to make another mileage goal for April. Hope all are well!

Lori - My sister is a librarian up north so I love that you go so often! She's a children's librarian, so please let me know if you ever go to any fantastic programs and I'll pass the ideas along for her. Thanks!

Took my youngest to the library this morning. They had an obstacle course for preschoolers...it was fun, but a little easy for my little athlete! He was more excited about checking out books with his very own library card! I'm glad he is still proud of it!

Interviewed a prospective PCA--she only wants one evening/week, but I think she'll be good, and it will be great to have another person, especially for spring sports.

Max--kindergarten is fun, but tiring! My kids are up at the same time most days, so it's not likely I'll be able to sleep later next week when they are out of school. Enjoy some down time!

Lori

Lori, that is so great that your husband coaches. How fun for your boys!! I wish I had your youngest's energy. LOL. Good luck during the basketball tournament this weekend.
Taught Kindergarten today and will tomorrow and Friday too. The kids are getting ramped up for spring break. Looking forward to some low key days next week where I can sleep past 6 a.m.

HI All,
My husband coaches the special Olympics track team that our older 2 sons are on, and they will start practice in April. Some years we have decent weather, but we have had to cancel for snow at times too. I'm with you, Max--hoping for nicer weather. We take all the boys to practice, and the younger ones are 'helpers' in some way. Our youngest is quiet the athlete, and he runs the track twice (has done that since he was 2), before participating in sprints with the athletes. the athletes like to race our little boys, and the little boys look up to the athletes, so it is a win for everyone. Right now, we are finishing basketball and will have the tournament this weekend.

Choir tonight--so fun to sing with those folks, and the prefect ending to a day of cleaning.

Now about ready for bed...just want to finish a few more things before I call it a night.

Lori

I'm coaching my 2nd grade daughter's track team again this year. I like coaching because it makes sure I'm active and it is a fun way to keep active. Also like that it gets us outside. We had our first meeting last night but won't start outside practice till April - I'm hoping it warms up a bit because the track we use tends to be a bit windy.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Max--300 boxes is a lot of cookies! Kudos to your daughter!
Ken--I haven't had time to explore the site changes...I still miss the private journal feature that used to be here...it's been a few years for that one!

The prosthetic issue is cosmetic...insurance will pay for the cover, but I haven't tried to get fine-tuning covered apart from other services. I may just wait until the bumpers in my ankle mechanism need to be replaced and see if they will do anything more with the lock that protrudes. I tend to be on the go, so it isn't that noticeable when I'm moving...just if you sit and look for a while...

We had a great gospel choir from Liberty University at church this morning. They are here to show off for a Choral Directors' event, and they sang at our church this morning, and did a full concert in St. Paul (forgot where) tonight. I think they may have some other concerts while they are touring, but I'm not sure where. Anyway, they were really good--so precise with all the musical details! So good to hear the product of their hard work!

Well, the time change didn't seem as hard as usual this morning...but the dark morning was a bit of a surprise...funny how I got used to having light, even though it's only been about 2 weeks...

heading to bed soon...Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Lori

Doing my happy dance...my daughter just finished selling all her Girl Scout cookies today. That is now 300 boxes of cookies out of my house. Hurray!

Elaine, sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she is feeling better.
Lori, sorry to hear the prosthetic wasn't completed properly. What a disappointment.
Ken, I haven't had too much time to look around the site after the changes. Trying to get used to the new layout.

Looks like the snow shouldn't stick around for too long. High of 38 on Thursday. 47 degrees on Friday. Bring on Spring. emoticon

Max, sending positive thoughts to you and your nephew! Hopefully, he can recover well enough that his final phase of training won't be as awful as it sounds!

Elaine, sorry to hear about your daughter, too. Glad it sounds like she is feeling better now! Hope you have also recovered from your sinus infection! I'm with you (need summer now)!!! emoticon

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about your leg. I don't know if there is anything worse than having good expectations for something and then being let down. I'm glad it fits and it sounds like you have improved mobility with it. Is there any way it can be improved/fixed or do you just wait until it is time for a different one? I don't really know anything about prosthetics, how often are they replaced?

Glad the library card was a hit! I loved the library as a kid. It's great they got cards. I read something recently that said going out and getting a local library card is a great thing to do even if you aren't planning on using it since they figure out funding and resources based on the number of cardholders. So, just getting a card helps keep the libraries going. Plus, you never know when you might want to check something out. I've got mine even though I don't use it that often.

What's everyone thinking about the new web site changes? At first I was like, what?!?! But, now I'm actually starting to like the Community Goal Feed. I just wish they would link to it and the Friend Feed on every page from the Community menu. Right now, the Community Feed is on most pages, but the Friend Feed is only on a few (and the Start page). This would be such an easy fix for their tech team! What do you all think?

Max--sorry about your nephew...hopefully he will recover quickly and be able to complete his program. We have had PCA's our for weeks at at time with pneumonia--it seems to be a bad year for it!

Elaine--your daughter sounds like quite a trooper! Sorry to hear she was so sick, but glad you both are on the road to recovery...

My hubby has another cold...I've lost count, but I don't think he has been without a cold for more than a few days since Nov.

I'm disappointed in my leg...the 'finish' is not that great...the lock sticks out like I have a growth on the side of my leg, the top of the cover has gaps, and the tech left glue between the toes on my rubber foot...I miss the guy I had a few years ago. Not sure where he went, but he fixed my last leg that had a lock problem...and no one seems to know how he did it, or how to do it again. Well, at least it fits and I can bend my leg freely again.

The library card was a big hit--both with my youngest and his brothers. They were all suitably impressed, and excited about the stack of books he checked out. I love that I have a house full of book lovers!

No school tomorrow, so glad we have some new books, and that they rediscovered some toys they hadn't played with recently, so my youngest said tomorrow will be a 'big day' with it all emoticon . I'd like some sleeping in, but that isn't too likely.

Very sorry Max to hear about your nephew. There is so much crud going around... we just really need summer to get here!

My daughter came down with influenza. She started feeling a little run down on Thursday and then ran a very slight fever on Friday. Saturday she had her state competition meet for gymnastics and she told me she was ok to compete. She only had bad congestion so I went along with it. She was peppy... danced around with her team mates, etc... But in the evening started to go down hill fast. By Sunday morning she was running 102 temp and was very weak and dizzy. I took her to the doctor and she had influenza and strep. I felt so bad that she went through a whole gymnastics meet being so sick but her symptoms weren't that bad. I thought it was just a cold. She is finally going back to school today after being down for 4 days. I ended up being seen as well and only had a sinus infection but man.... I am done with these illnesses for sure. It just seems like we can't ever catch a break!

And that wind the past few days.... awful! I guess I was ok being cooped up inside the house and resting. I am on a North Woods Facebook page where photographers post their pictures from the north shore. The waves on Lake Superior were unbelievable. It would have been a sight to see in person for sure.

Have a great Thursday everyone!
Elaine

Ken, I haven't been to Crave in a long time but I remember the food being very good. Glad you enjoyed your time at that MS dinner. How fun that your partner's mom brought you gifts/treats from Taiwan and Japan! My daughter researched Japan for her Girl Scout World Thinking day project and I think she would like to visit there some day.

Lori, glad to hear that you are feeling better. How exciting that your leg will be finished! Very happy for you. How wonderful that your son is wanting to get his own library card. I wish more people would bring their kids to the library. It gets them so excited about books.

Received a bit of bad news today. My nephew is at Marine bootcamp. He has come down with pneumonia. This will delay his participation in the Crucible, the final phase of Marine Corps Recruit Training. It tests every recruit physically, mentally and morally. It takes place over 54-hours and includes food and sleep deprivation and over 45 miles of marching. I can't imagine doing this while recovering from pneumonia. I can't even think about marching 45 miles in optimum conditions.

Feeling better today...got some photos done while my youngest was in preschool.
Choir tonight--yea! The songs for our spring concert are becoming like good friends...so soothing and just what I need, especially this week!

Need to do errands tomorrow, since the kids are not in school on Friday. I have an appt. with the prosthetist--should have my finished leg--finally! My youngest turned 5 in Dec, and he reminded me that he is old enough to get a library card now--how cool is it that he is eager for more books on his own personal library card!?!

Better finish a few things and then get to bed!

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about the PCA (yes, looks like we both posted at the same time, so I didn't see your latest update until now). I hope you can find some GOOD assistance soon! That chili sounds delicious! When my partner makes ours, he makes a huge pot that lasts for days. It's very veggie-dense and low sodium (I'm really sensitive to sodium it seems and most chili seems to have quite a bit in it, so it's great he makes it perfectly for me!). Hope your migraine goes away soon!

Keep up the home cooking, Max! You are right; it is sooo much better for us! Enjoy your short workweek!

We had another MS dinner event tonight at Crave in Woodbury. It was a bit of a jaunt, but glad we went. It had a bigger turnout than the last couple of events we went to. I'm sure the food had a lot of sodium though, but the entire dinner was delicious! Then, when we got home, my partner's mom stopped by with some little gifts/treats she picked up for us in Taiwan and Japan when she was there last month visiting my partner's brother's family who lives in Taiwan. We had a good time catching up since we hadn't seen her since our belated Christmas in January.

2 days of teaching down/2 to go - no school Friday - very happy about that. Yay!

HI all,

Ken--looks like we were posting at the same time again--lol!

Can't seem to shake this migraine, but at least the med worked better today. I worked all morning, and then to the prosthetist. I think we are almost done with the new leg--yea! Was able to make a quick trip to the store, and do 2 loads of laundry, so I guess my day was pretty productive.

Got notified from the company who staffs my oldest son on Wed. night that they have again changed some staff, and they promoted a lady who doesn't do well with my son...had to take care of that...sigh...she wasn't always on her phone, but she seemed to think it was okay to act like a chimpanzee at church--sigh...

Boys had good days, and we rewarded them with ice cream...and then they turned into monsters--yikes!

Okay, after reading some of the ridiculous things I had to deal with today, it's no wonder I'm really tired and have a headache...

Ken, that is some great bike riding for March!! Sounds like a good workout and hopefully the sun was out for you so you could soak in the Vitamin D.

Lori, your chili sounds good. Sorry about your PCA. Mobile phones are really getting on my nerves lately. Even people at school (teachers, paras, etc) are checking their phones. Annoying!

I've been cooking a lot more at home which is good. Only bad thing is that my two girls are in charge of doing the dishes and they aren't keeping up with the mess I'm making. LOL

So busy here, but some of it "good busy"! With the warmer weather these two days, I was able to get in a 24-mile bike ride yesterday and another 15.25 miles today! Both days I rode around Lake Nokomis and then to Minnehaha Falls and up and down the river (further on Sunday). I ride this route the most often in the spring and fall. In the summer, I head to the other Minneapolis lakes.

Elaine, your weekend park adventure sounds great (including the Tobies pit stop)! I often get ice cream there when in the area in the summer.

Lori, congrats on the PCA! Did the background check come back yet? Hoping that all works out for you! And, happy birthday to your son, glad it was a good day for him!

Max, sorry to hear about you and your daughter's stress regarding the kid bullying her. I hope that it will all get resolved quickly. The MN Zoo trip sounds awesome!

Hope everyone has a great week! emoticon

The Zoo is always fun--Girl Scout day sounds great! Sometimes I feel a bit foreign with the boy scout activities--lol.

Tummy seems better for 8 year old...he is my drama kid, so it's hard to figure at times, and since he has type 1 diabetes, he is at higher risk for celiac or thyroid problems, so I'm a little more watchful with him...however, he is also the one who sneaks treats, so may well have eaten too much of something that sent his sugar levels high enough to make his tummy hurt (especially combined with the guilt).

Woke up with a migraine today, and it didn't respond to meds until the 2nd dose, so I didn't get much done today. I did make a pot of chili--I put lots of veggies in mine, and someone had given me some butternut squash, so it was healthy and hearty!

I fired the new PCA--he didn't want to work but wanted to use our house. He told me he needed to come 1/2 hour before he was supposed to start, so he could just be here for a while. I explained why that doesn't work for us, and he asked to start working 1/2 hour earlier. That works some days, but not others. Then he decided he needed to have our wifi code...I told him that phone needs to be put away unless it is urgent. He went to my husband and asked for the wifi code, and the next thing I know, there was a pile of things pulled out from the bottom of the computer desk that I had to put away. Later, my hubby took the guys to basketball practice, and explained to the PCA how he needs to be right by our son all the time because he gets visually confused, and needs to be pointed back to where he needs to be. Well, the Y has free wifi, so the phone was again a problem...sigh...is there anyone out there who understands what it means to work?

The storm tonight was a thrill for our boys--they are not afraid of severe weather, and 20 year old LOVES a good storm. It is a bit different for March--and the west coast had snow today--weird weather!

Well, I have a hat to finish, so I'm going to get back to work.

Spring must be just around the corner with us all so busy. Lori, happy 20th birthday to your son! Glad he enjoyed his day. Sorry to hear about your 8 year old having tummy aches. Those are always quite the mystery to solve (did they eat something odd, is it nerves, are they catching a bug) - hope you get it figured out.

Spent Saturday at the MN Zoo for Girl Scout day with our troop. The girls had a lot of fun earning badges and looking at the animals. My husband and 13 year old took a long walk outside - I was proud of them both since they tend to be glued to their gadgets (phone, DS, computer) at home.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy week! emoticon

Looks like we are all busy...
My teenager isn't a teenager anymore...his 20th birthday was yesterday. He got people to sing to him all day (actually, most of the week!) and really enjoyed his day.

8 year old has been complaining of intermittent tummy aches...He'll be fine for much of the day, but then complains about it later...

Ugh...I almost fell asleep typing...better head off to bed.

sorry to hear about your daughter's problems at school. My 3rd grader was in trouble for being mean to a girl today...we had a serious talk, and he wrote her an apology. I am also going to work on making some hearts for this: http://www.thepeytonheartproject.org/
Hopefully, an ongoing project to think about helping others will make an impact on him.

And after a trying day at work and home, I got some complimentary emails from people at church, so that was much appreciated encouragement!

and now, I'm tired, and looking at an early wake up tomorrow due elementary choir, so I think I'll head off to bed really soon.

Ken, great that you had a low key weekend. I bet your niece's musical was a lot of fun to watch. It was great to hear about the MS dinner where you were able to meet the other couple and help them. And then ask questions you had in the smaller group.

Elaine, Tobies is a must. LOL We always stop there when headed up north too. Luckily I can't eat those sweets being gluten-free and lactose-free. My girls and hubby enjoy them for me!

Lori, hurray with having all the kids in school this week. That down time is so needed. Hope the new PCA works out for you.

My middle school daughter has missed several days of school in the last month and a half due to being bullied by a boy. She had been working with the school counselor on this. Today she told me more about what the boy said and I went directly to the principal. Time to stop this. We'll see what happens after the assistant principal talks with all parties involved. So her stress of course carries over to me because I'm so worried about her. Stress= both us being tired and just wanting to sleep. Luckily I was able to take a nap yesterday. It was just what I needed.

Sounds like a fun trip, Elaine.
good to have a rather quiet weekend Ken.
Mine was busy, since the children's choir musical was on Sunday afternoon. They did a great job, and we get to do it again on Wed night.
I finally have all my kids in school for the entire week for the first time in a month...I might find all of the kitchen counter emoticon ...
I'm really dragging today...feel like I'm getting another cold...ugh...PCA accepted the job offer and I'm just waiting on his background check. Hopefully, he can start on Thursday.
Need to get back to work on photos...

Hey Everyone! It has been a hit or miss with me posting or even going on Spark People lately. Sorry about that....

This weekend my hubby and I took a drive up to Hinckley and went to St. Croix State Park. We only made a small dent in checking out the park because from the website, it has 127 miles of trails! We will have to go back for sure. It wasn't my favorite park but it was still nice.

And of course we can't go up that way and not stop at Tobies. Wish I could pass it up but we did end up buying a half dozen of cinnamon rolls and caramel rolls. The kids sure were happy to see the box when we got home.

I hope everyone is having a great Monday!
Elaine

Hope the prospective PCA works out, Lori! *fingers crossed*

We had a fairly lazy weekend, which is great since last week and the coming week were/are both crazy work-wise. Saturday, we watched our niece perform in Legally Blonde The Musical, Jr. at Chanhassen High School. It was fun and she did a great job! Plus, it's a newer school and their theater is really nice. Other than that, not much to report over the weekend. A long spinning session for me at the gym, today. That's about it.

Have a great week!

Glad you finished your Monday work by the end of the week, Ken. As a Mom, I never feel like I finish my work...so I like when a design project is finished and in print...a good feeling for sure!

Took 2 of my boys to the UNW band concert last night. It was really good! Then up early today for the Children's choir dress rehearsal. It's all coming together just in time for them to present it tomorrow afternoon. Then home to interview a prospective PCA--I hope he takes the job!

Now a bit of quiet time (with laundry in the washer), and then we regroup to go the 3rd grader's blue-gold Cub Scout banquet tonight...ooh, better get the camera out!

Sorry to hear about the bus troubles, Lori. But, glad you were able to find some kitchen counter and get your hair cut as well!

My week continued to be busy and stressful. But, at least I finally finished my "Monday" work projects, albeit on the wrong end of the week! Oh well, looking forward to the weekend, even if it will be cold!

Whew! Busy Wednesday...my 3rd grader has school choir early on Wed morning. Fortunately, the accompanist lives near us, and she picks him up so I don't have to get all 4 boys ready so early. got everyone else off to school--first time in 2 weeks, so I tried to take advantage of it and get some cleaning done. I found one end of the kitchen counter. Went to pick up my elementary son, and got home to my teen's bus blocking our driveway, waiting for me to get there...sigh. Been round and round on this--bus driver claims the schedule has been changed, bus router says is hasn't and my son is still scheduled to be the last one off...sigh...Our district has 8000+ special ed stops daily, so I understand that problems arise due to the numbers, but it sure would be nice to get this taken care of. I can easily pick my teen up from school--but they built that place with such a tiny parking lot, and the bus drivers beep at me and get really annoyed that I'm in their way. I'm getting tired of the whole thing!
Met a new pastor at church last night. He was wonderfully friendly, and seemed to enjoy our crew of boys. It was fun to connect with him.
Woke up with a headache this morning, so I puttered around most of the morning. Ran some errands, had a PCA call in, and revised my plan for the day to accommodate her absence. Finally got a much needed hair cut emoticon !
And now, I am SO tired...and hungry...and tired...
I think it's time for bed!

Lori, to quote your boy, "All the file drawers in my brain are busting!" OMG, that is me! I love it. I feel his pain, haha!

And, Max, I feel your pain, too (in regards to feeling a bit overwhelmed by life in general). It's been a tough few weeks for me. Like you mentioned, I've also been eating horribly which just adds more stress since I know better. And, I agree about eating out. For some reason, restaurant food just makes me feel gross, even when it's reasonable and from nicer restaurants, it's still "too rich" for my body. Probably more fat and sodium than I am used to eating at home. At least I do well all day before I start my crazy eating late at night. I used to do this, then I didn't and now I am again, so it must be a stress threshold thing. I gotta get it under control, quick! Good luck in figuring out the upcoming year!

Speaking of eating out, we went to another MS dinner event tonight. I almost didn't because we've been eating at so many of these lately. But, I'm glad I did. There were several no-shows and there was only one other couple there! So, that probably would have been awkward for them if they were the only ones. Plus, the guy was recently diagnosed I think a month ago, so he is in the panic/depressed/stressed state I was in then. I mean, I still am, but it does get better with time and my partner thought I made a world of difference to him and his wife being able to explain what I've been going through for the last few months. I was the first person with MS he has talked to since his diagnosis. It was also nice, because since there were so few people I also asked some questions I might have been too nervous to ask in a bigger group. So, a good night after a few very stressful days (I'm still not done with my Monday projects, btw, uff!).

Hope everyone has a good rest of the week!

Teen FINALLY went back to school today...and then his bus was 20 minutes early, so they were sitting at our driveway with the lights flashing when I got home with my elementary son...sigh...we to through this every year...The parking lot at his program is tiny, and those bus drivers DON'T want my full-sized van in the way there, and I have to pick up my elementary son after school, and I can only be in one place at a time, so my teen (can't be left unsupervised due to his special needs) needs to be the last drop-off on his route (I can see the bus garage from the kitchen window, so we are REALLY close to the end of the route anyway). So, the router has been great about working with me to figure out the times. Today, I got a lady who told me that as long as my teen can walk up our driveway unassisted, they can change his drop off time without notifying me...really? Finally got that straightened out, and it was time to get ready to go. Dinner at church tonight--we are relatively new there, so it's always good to have times to get to know others better. Elementary son went to a sitter who took him to the HS, so his school choir could sing the national anthem for a bball game, so our logistics got rather complex.
And now, they are all in bed, and I'm SO tired...
Max--I hear you on the overwhelmed...it seems like the Mom-tasks multiply and the time available shrinks.
And tomorrow is my early morning, so I better head off to bed.

Lori, congrats on having another pattern published - that is great.
Ken, how great to get out on your bike. I can see where it would tough to figure out how many/what kind of layers to wear. I mean - we should be in our winter parkas this time of year. LOL

Feeling a bit overwhelmed just by life in general. Trying to figure out if I'm going to substitute teach next year or give up teaching faith formation or leading Girl Scouts. I'll continue with my Norwex sales job but something has to give. Not enough hours in the day to get things done. Eating horribly. We've eaten out several times in the last few days and that is definitely something we normally don't do. I can tell with my energy level that we aren't eating very well. Thursday I'll have time to go to Fresh Thyme and get some healthy food before the rain/snowstorm hits Thursday evening.

No school today, so I made appointments for me and 8 year old. Mine was at Gillette and his at St. Paul Children's, so it worked out well, since they are pretty close. It made for a long day, and then home to do some laundry, get supper and finish homework.

When I was tucking the 8 year old in bed tonight, he just kept talking and talking...one idea after another, and I told him to file that last idea away because it was past his bedtime. He replied, "I can't! All the file drawers in my brain are busting!"

Ken--I agree, the wind was rather cool today...I just wore a hoodie, since I wasn't out for long, but I got chilled quicker than usual for me. Glad you got some bike time in anyway!

Hope you are able to get the most out of your day tomorrow. Mine is looking pretty full as well.

Better head off to bed.

Another bike ride for me today. emoticon
Unfortunately, I didn't dress warm enough and was pretty cold throughout most of the ride. It's tough picking out what to wear since it will seem warm, but once the wind starts hitting you while riding it cools down really quick! Plus, I don't have a lot of options and layers get a little cumbersome on the bike. It was still great though, so many people out and about!

I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. I've got more work to do tomorrow than I can possibly get done. Hopefully, it will all work out. But, it's going to be a stressful day for sure!

Hope you all have a great week!

Good to hear from you Ken! I know what you mean about being tired...I had a few days like that too. Boy, the puddles have been deep with the warm weather and snow melt out there. I didn't get out much today--mostly working on chores and Mom stuff. Glad you were able to get some bike time in. I don't do much better parking in Minneapolis...I originally had an appt. at the Edina office, because parking is so much easier and the drive time is about the same. However, they canceled that appt. because something came up in the Dr's schedule, and the only ting available was in St. Paul. So, next time, I will schedule in Edina if possible, and take lunch with us so we can settle in for a long wait if necessary.

I had a new design published. Mine is the oval doily with purple flowers at the top right of the page below.

Church was good this morning...so fun to sing with choir! We sang my oldest son's favorite song, and he was disappointed when it was time to go--he really wanted more!

Tired tonight and going to try to get in bed on time.

Hey all! Wow, I can't believe I didn't post in here all week, sorry! It's been a hectic week and when I've had down time, it has mostly been away from the computer. I usually read this thread at the end of the day, but the days this week have had me so tired out, I haven't commented. I actually had news to share and always tell myself I'll post in the morning, but then I forget to do it and whatever I was going to say!
emoticon

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day and all of you are enjoying the beautiful weather! I know I sure am! Biking is my go-to exercise, and I was so happy to be able to get outside so early in the year! I biked a little on Thursday when it was still a little cool and very windy. But, I wanted to make sure everything was in working order for Fri-Sun! Unfortunately, I've been hurting lately, so I didn't go as all out as I would have liked to, but I still got an hour of riding in each day, yesterday and today. Yesterday was so wet! My entire jacket and backside was covering in mud and water when I got home (my bike, too!). Today I stayed around Lake Nokomis and that path was quite a bit drier.

We have so many little libraries in our neighborhood, including one in the middle of our block and one at the end of it. They are seriously everywhere. I don't read books much, but I still like them (and most of them are Pokemon Go stops, so I can still make use of them, haha!).

My partner is out of town for an extended weekend up north at our friend's cabin. There's no running water there in the winter, so I don't go up in the winter time. But, my friend took me to see Hedwig at the Ordway last night, so I'm still having fun. Ugh, Lori, I know what you mean about parking in downtown St. Paul! I guess I'm just a Minneapolis guy, because the roads in St. Paul totally confuse me. I don't go there enough to know my way around.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I was only outside briefly today because we had a long kids' choir rehearsal this morning. They present their musical next weekend, so we are to the last rehearsals now.

I did a little better on eating today--paid better attention to whether or not I was actually hungry, and got in a good amount of fresh produce.

Worked on getting some papers organized and got some stray ones in a folder tonight.

Max--we have an abundance of books too, so I'm happy to trade some, instead of just continuing to get more. We also make good use of the county libraries, so always have a few stacks of books around. My kids all are over-achievers in reading, so I guess it pays off, even if it adds to the clutter around the house.

Well, it's getting late, and I have an early choir call at church in the morning, so I'm about to head off to bed.

Gorgeous day! It is so fun to see people out on their bikes, walking their dogs, kids playing at the park.

Lori, Sorry to hear about your son not getting in to see his dr. The walk you had to the little library sounds fun. I've always wanted to put a little library in our yard. We have so many books I think we could easily fill up several. I'm a big sucker for the kid's book fairs.

Elaine hope you had a productive day and enjoyed this amazing weather!
Ken, hope you were able to get out on this beautiful day too!

The weather was lovely today! Went for a soggy walk with the 2 boys that were home this afternoon. We walked to a tiny little library to exchange books, and then back home with wet feet, but it was quite refreshing to be out in light jackets.

Had a hard time parking downtown St. Paul, so we walked in 5 min late for his appt. Then the receptionists were busy, so it took 20 more minutes to wait our turn and get checked in...and 20 minutes after that, they told me the Dr. couldn't see my son because we were so late...sigh...good thing his condition stays stable and I have no big concerns.

Now, a little crochet, and off to bed.

February 1981 was the record for hitting 60 degrees in Minnesota. Looks like we are going to do it today!

What were you doing in February 1981 on that warm winter day?

Me, I was only 2 so I don't remember.... LOL! But I will remember today though! Going to soak up the warm temps and sunshine today for sure. Heading outside before lunch for a nice run. Then when I get home from work around 3:30 today my first plan is to clean out the inside of my car, sweep out the garage and driveway. Then I will probably go for a nice long walk!

Looking forward to it!

Lots of people out sick...school kids report many subs there. fortunately, we have only had colds here and nothing has become more serious at our house.

My teen is out of school all week...he is in a program that is on a 'stretch' calendar, so they have random weeks off during the school year. Makes life a bit more complicated, since he can't be left alone. We spent the morning at 'the Works' today, and he has a neurology appt. in the morning.

The weather has been great! I love 50's and 60's!

Really tired, so I'm heading to bed soon.

Hi Elaine! Yes, will definitely take the warmer weather. emoticon

My 13 year old had some weird bug that is going around the school. She missed two days of school last week and two days this week. My 8 year old only missed one day and was fine after that. Haven't been exercising much because I've been exhausted. Hoping to get outside for a walk though with this warm spell.

Have a great day!! emoticon

Good Morning!
So who is going to be soaking in the fresh air over the next few days?

emoticon Me... me... me...

I cannot believe that we have a projected temp of near 60 tomorrow for FEBRUARY! That is insane to me but I will take it! I have a major spring cleaning bug lately with these nicer temps. Tonight I think I will scrub out my car mats and crack the windows a little as I clean my house.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Whoa... I just looked and I haven't checked in since the end of January. emoticon Looks like I have some catching up to do.

I haven't been coming on Spark much this month because it feels like things have been so hectic. Between work, gymnastics meets, wrestling meets, Nordic meets.... we have been hopping! But we are almost through all the meets. Wrestling we just have sections this Friday, Nordic season is done, and my daughter just has one more gymnastics meet (state). We are starting to get our time back and it feels like I can breathe again.

emoticon Happy Valentine's Day! emoticon
It is a Hallmark day but I still partake in it. My hubby and I always exchange cards but don't do gifts. If he is going to get me flowers, I like it to be on an ordinary day. Today though we are leaving work early to get out for a lunch date and then some hiking! I also got the kids donuts this morning for breakfast as a special treat. And a little heart of chocolates.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Tuesday!

Lori, that opera singer doing the reading and singing must have been great! Good to hear that choir was fun as well.

Max, I bet Girl Scout cookie time is one of the few times you're glad you need to avoid gluten and dairy! I have a hard time avoiding Girl Scout cookies and agree it would be great if they could sell something else either in addition to or instead of the cookies. Hope you are feeling better!

The last few days have just flown by. Wish I had more to show for it, but at least I've been getting my exercise in and have made some progress on my desk (piles of paperwork slowly being dealt with). Tired, so I'll keep this short and wish everyone a great week ahead!

Kids' choir was fun. My son started out acting way too silly, and after about 25 minutes, he told me he was tired, thirsty and hungry and couldn't listen. When he checked his sugar, it was 486--whew! No wonder he couldn't pay attention. After a little insulin, he did great!

Rotated around the house getting the most obvious things taken care of. Then supper--kids loved that I made cornbread. My secret ingredient is brown sugar.

Max--guess you should have had boy scouts--they sell popcorn and wreaths instead of cookies emoticon .

Better get some sleep--choir call makes it an early morning tomorrow.

Lori, sorry to hear Pacer can't help but glad to hear that you are able to advocate for your kids. Hopefully the bad attitude bug leaves soon and you had fun with kids' choir.

Crazy day in our house. My youngest is selling Girl Scout cookies for the first time. The good news is that I can't eat any of them so no worries about empty calories there. (They don't have a gluten free, dairy free cookie). Wish the girls sold plants or something else. Have not been drinking enough water - headache city - working on getting more liquids in me.

Sorry about the no-energy bug, Max...there was something like that going around a few years ago...people jokes about it being 'nothing' because that's how they felt--hope it is short-lived.
The last time I contacted PACER for help, they told me they couldn't do anything unless I could witness and prove that the school was not implementing my oldest son's IEP. I what to school to observe, and my son's teacher sent me to the principal...he ended up helping us without needing to involve PACER, but after all the work I put in to do what needed to be done, I haven't felt like PACER would be worth my time. Overall, our district does well, I just don't like the extended time of limbo we are in this year.

LONG day of disagreeable kids today...we seem to have been hit with a bad attitude 'bug' here...sigh. I am SO tired!

Looking forward to helping with kids' choir in the morning.

Some sort of weird bug is zapping my energy and my 2 girls too. I'm hoping it isn't the start of one of the strains of flu. So all 3 of us stayed home from school today. Luckily the husband is fine. Hoping we are all feeling better tomorrow.

Ken, sorry to hear about the medication appeal. My friend went through something similar for her daughter who needs medication for her extensive localized Cutaneous Scleroderma. What a battle it is getting her the medication she needs even when the doctor agrees that is what they need. I really hope your medication works and that the insurance company will cover it for you.

Lori, I hope the school district allows you to get your son into the same school. If they say no, is there any way to get Pacer involved? They may be a good advocate for you.

My coping is usually done by playing the piano, cleaning to really loud music or mindless watching of sci-fi TV.

I'm not sure about an appeal...our home school is a magnet school with a long waiting list, so they have been happy that we wanted to transfer. However, after all-day kindergarten began, all the elementary schools became overcrowded, because 5 classes now need 5 rooms, instead of 3. The district has to put him in a school, regardless of the overcrowding, but this year all of the previous policies have been changed and no one seems to know anything.

Sorry about the insurance hassles--that's a big stress for me. Fortunately, the kids all have MA to pay what our insurance doesn't and my hubby has veteran's benefits, so I'm the one who needs to be most careful. We had a similar thing with seizure meds for my son...he had to fail 3 others before getting the one he's on now...fortunately, it was quickly evident that the other meds weren't working, so we got approval after a short time. Glad the drug company will pay for yours for a year...that probably helps with drug research, acceptance and marketing.

Took my younger 2 boys to the library story time this morning. There was an opera singer who read and sang a story and she was terrific! Checked out a stack of books, so they spent time reading in the afternoon. Teacher conferences for me after supper. Now ready for bed.

I hope the school transfer ends up happening for you, Lori! If not, are you able to appeal the decision? I have appeals on the mind since I was looking over my "final denial" from my health insurance in regards to my MS medication appeal. It irritates me to no end since we pay so much for our insurance and it has always been so awesome for us until this incident (we've had basically the same policy for about 20 years). I can still appeal to the state, but I think I'm just going to see how the medication goes for a while. I'd hate to waste the time if this medication ends up not working or causing problems. The manufacturer will supposedly cover the first year anyway. My insurance wants me to fail on a drug that has additional risks before covering this one. I'd rather not take the added risk even if it is small, especially since my doctor chose my current medication because she thought it would be best for my situation.

And, thanks for the coping tips! I really need to find a creative outlet, that would probably serve me best. My work used to be my creative outlet, but as our business evolved over the years, my role changed and it definitely isn't a creative outlet for me right now. For now, I'll need to find something outside of work to focus on.

Hope you all have a great Friday!

Hi All,

Registered my youngest for Kindergarten today...ad while world events are stressful, my angst is closer to home--we requested an in-district transfer so he can attend the same elementary as his brothers, but since they are building a new school in our district, the class numbers are still in limbo...until an undecided date, so we still don't know. I was looking forward to FINALLY having 2 kids in the same school, but now it is looking uncertain...sigh...

I cope best with music, so choir was especially a great haven for me tonight. If I have to be quiet, then I do something else creative--usually crochet, or I pray. And sometimes, chocolate, but I try to make that an occasional thing

The youngest 2 kids are out of school tomorrow due to conferences, so I better get to bed soon.

Lori

Max, those pancakes are adorable! Nice job! Your day sounds stressful. I hope you are able to squeeze some ME-time in somewhere. You need to take care of yourself in order to take care of others. I feel your pain with what is going on politically. What can you do to cope with those feelings? (asking for a friend) Haha! I won't get deep into it since SP is my stress-free space, but I'm so concerned that my sleep, stress and blood pressure have actually been measurably affected over the last two and a half weeks (my Fitbit and BP monitor can prove it). Plus, I'm empathetic to a fault, so I really do try to understand both sides of issues and when I don't understand, I get even more stressed out.

Seriously, though, how do you cope with what's going on or other stressors in general? I used to cope with food. Then, when I got "sparked" everything changed and eventually I shifted to exercise (maybe too much at times). But, now some of my MS issues have made it very hard to throw myself into longer stretches of exercise to work out my stress. Food has slowly started becoming the crutch again, and I know that leads nowhere I want to go. So, I'm looking for other ideas. If anyone has some, please let me know!

p.s. I made it through the half time show and we watched many of the Super Bowl commercials. I thought a few where great, but so many of them left me thinking "they paid how much for that?!?!"

Subbed for the EBD (emotional and behavior disorder) teacher today at an elementary school. I'm so tired. Every one on my teacher's caseload had behavior issues today. Ugh! One of the educational assistants mentioned that there will be a full moon on Friday. I should have guessed that. On the plus side, I'm sure I got my 10,000 steps in working with all those kiddos.

I didn't watch the Superbowl either. I usually just watch the half time show and some of the commercials online the next day.

Don't want to get political on here but the current administration has me angry and I'm trying not to stress eat. Wanting to pound my head against the wall on a daily basis.

To end on a positive note... made heart pancakes for breakfast this morning because next Tuesday, Valentine's Day, we have a very hectic schedule with both kid's schedules. So happy early heart day to you all!

I didn't watch the super bowl either...I'm not interested in football, but I do like to see the commercials...some are just so creative! Others are typically boring, but generally they are more interesting than the usual fare. Oldest son likes team sports, so he was interested and enjoyed watching with Grampa. However, we needed to get everyone in bed at a decent hour, so we were driving during the half-time show, which really annoyed him. He had a better day today.

I worked around the house today...made a good dent in some of the paper piles...but it all seems to multiply as soon as the kids start coming home. I also spent quite a while on the phone with the pharmacist...got one boy's problem solved, but another boy will have to wait for more paperwork...sigh...

Really tired and thinking I should head to bed...

Sounds like a great weekend for sure, Max!

Sorry to hear about another no-show, Lori. And, tomorrow WILL be better!

I'm not sure where today went! *poof* Went spinning at the gym and cleaned up some stuff around the house. Nothing exciting, good or bad. Didn't watch the Super Bowl since football doesn't interest either of us at all. But, we recorded it to check out the half time show and some of the commercials. Will probably go do that now before bed!

Have a great week, everyone! emoticon emoticon
