We are still having plenty of hot days and warm temps early in the AM, so still enjoying the swimming pool outdoors the most for cardio workouts.

At present it is going to the swimming pool with the heat here in the Rio Grand Valley, it is about the only place to be. Starting Sunday it will be in the triple digits here for next week. I do enjoy some walking when the temps aren't so high. I also need to step up the strength training again.

I may have to get myself one or two of the Leslie Sansone video's to continue my activity indoors. I'm not much of a winter person but I am trying to get myself out for a walk with Daisy once or twice a week if it's above 20 degrees.

OCTOBERMOM66: This is the second time in a couple of days I have heard about Leslie Sandstone videos. I am going to have to look into them. I do some videos from You Tube, and I agree, sometimes exercising from home is the way to go.

I also like going to the gym, but that isn't practical for everyone.

I will look into these. Thanks and good luck!

My go to workout is Leslie Sandsone's (sp) Videos. I prefer to workout at home and right before I go to bed. Living in the country makes it kind of hard to walk at night when I have free time. The roads are really dark out there :-)

Taking it one day at a time!

It sounds like you are doing great. The treadmill is a great way to start your fitness process. If you use the treadmill religiously and do nothing else, it is a good tool.

I am glad, however that you signed up for those classes. I find the classes I take, both inspiring and fun. I take a couple of Arthritis Water Classes, a Chair Yoga class and a Chair cardio class. (Chair classes are for people with limited mobility...I have knee issues, so these are awesome for me.) I think you will be surprised at how fun the group classes are. You might be really tired after the first one, but will get better with every class.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

I am only on Week 2 of starting to workout. So far I have stuck with the treadmill at the gym at my office. Last week only walking, this week walking/jogging intervals.
I have signed up for two community ed fitness classes (Columbia Heights, MN). The Aerobic Dance starts next week and the Total body conditioning starts in November. I am excited to take the classes.
I am not as good at working out at home but want to start doing yoga at home.

Getting in 30 minutes of exercise with DVDs is GREAT!! The recommended exercise is 30 minutes four or more times a week, so you are doing better than the recommendation.

Good for you!!

I tend to workout at night so I do aerobic dvds. Right now I am using the Leslie Sansone dvds. I get a good 30 minutes in a day. I also walk the dog around our 3 acres to relax.

There are so many fun ideas here. I love this whole post. I go to the Southdale YMCA to work out. Someone the other day called it the "Galleria" YMCA, and it isn't far off the mark. There are fancy workout places, and this YMCA isn't really one of them, but it is a great YMCA. It has great equipment, great staff, and lots of classes with fun instructors. They have a discount for low income, and will help you with membership. If you are a certain age, your insurance might even pay for it.

I have two knee surgeries, and a fractured knee, so my walking is limited. I ride the Nu-Step bike, which is built for knee and hip replacements, and do the circuit on the weight machines. I also do Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga, Chair Cardio, and have started an Arthritis Water class. I highly recommend each and every thing I do.

I run/walk/jog around the Lake in Maple Grove! Just the right amount of hills, level ground, sun and shade. Plus a great view. Just under 4 miles around and if I hit the time right I can get around twice before the sun goes down

The exercises that I most enjoy are swimming, Zumba and golf. Although I need a lot of practice with all of them, I still have fun!

This is my exercise of choice when I can get myself to the pool. I just found out our pool is open and this will be the last year. I work on my feet all day, so when I get home I like to actually sit, so it's hard to get excited about exercise. We don't have elevators in our place, so taking stairs is good for us.

Hi! I haven't posted to this forum before but I saw the topic and can share 2 workouts that I really enjoy. One is cardio boxing at Ax Fitness in NE Minneapolis. I LOVE wearing my cute pink boxing gloves and punching that bag. I feel so tough! emoticon

The other is Hip Hop dancing through Mpls Community Ed. Just plain FUN!

What a great idea! The car drive to Stillwater at the moment is a mess. I know because I drive it almost everyday! I believe I am going to make it one of my summer goals to get my teen on her bike as well and bike down there. Wednesday evenings are the old car show (I forget what they named it) with a really awesome Rock -A-Billy band. Some biking and a good old swing dance. Sounds like a great evening to me!
I hope you find a solution to crossing the river. Here is what I know about Mpls. (----------------) LOL!

By the way, I'm still trying to figure out how to easily cross the Minnesota River south of Minneapolis. It seems like from my Minneapolis trails I can easily connect up and go west, north and east... south, not so much. If anyone has ideas, please let me know (keep in mind I like to stay on trails, but would ride on the road if it were only a mile or so and could get me down there). Thanks!

Once you get on the trail hit downtown Stillwater. My friends usually hit Liftbridge for some beer. I've taken walks down the river and eaten at some really good restaurants, Smalley's anyone? Northern Vineyards is also downtown and they have some really good summer wines. Otherwise there is also shopping.

Thanks you. That's true. I had not thought about that in awhile. When I had a larger vehicle we would toss all the bikes in the back and head to LE. Right now I need to get my hands on a "bike seat" or trailer so I can take my little man along. lt would only take me about 15 minutes to bike TO the Gateway trail.

Rskating: If you are in Oakdale you should be able to pick up the Gateway trail that runs along 36 into downtown Stillwater. From there you can connect up to some of the State Parks. Also, Lake Elmo Park Reserve has a few biking trails.

Thanks for the maps. That looks absolutely inspiring. Nothing like that in Oakdale.

I can very much relate to the "no matter how far I go" comment. That happens to me all the time when I walk in state parks!

I just head out from my house. Luckily, I'm just a couple blocks from Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis which connects to the Grand Rounds, and a ton of other trails from that point. I'm not a fan of riding on the road, so I'm very lucky that I can get all over the place via trails due to the Grand Rounds connections. I've even been to the Port of Excelsior on Lake Minnetonka and back. The only stickler is that I always need to return from however far I head out (that Lake Minnetonka trip was pretty crazy since it started storming once I got there).

Here's a link to the Grand Rounds maps, I start off at the bottom in the Minnehaha segment:

Its a cross between the elliptical and gazelle. It has some slight resistance like the elliptical with the motion of the gazelle. It's easier on the knees then the elliptical.
