I enjoy walking outside year round. When we have enough snow, I cross country ski. I also have a home gym which includes an elliptical, treadmill, bosu, free weights, universal weight machine and my favorite... my dogs... they do not sit in the corner and collect dust :)

I have a treadmill but I prefer walking outdoors. In the winter I can walk Har Mar Mall during lunch but my favorite place to walk is Como Lake. Nice scenery, lots of people watching and it's an easy lunch time walk.

I live very close to a YWCA so I walk over for Masters Swimming twice week and other things like spinning or weights and a treadmill on the other days (if I'm on track!) - otherwise, I sometimes do my free weights workout at home in my living room or do a WII Fit workout. If I have my bike on my trainer, I ride indoors in the winter and watch shows on Netflix.

I know I am not the person you asked, but here is my 2 cents. emoticon
The Wii is fun! If you can afford it, look into both the Wii and Kinnect (I'm not sure how to spell that) to see which is best for you.
However, with the Wii there are many fitness "games" or programs out there. My husband uses it daily. There's boxing, bowling, running, balance games, yoga, wake boarding, dancing, the options go on and on. We have Wii fit and a balance board. The board also works as a scale and shows your BMI. Some programs look and feel like a traditional workout, with a "personal trainer", some are like playing in the park. One thing my husband really likes is that he and our daughter play together often. Since the Wii has been around longer than Kinnect many games are available at "replay" stores like Game Stop. This is a good way to purchase new workouts without paying full price.
Good luck!

Grandmapattyv, would you say a little more about how you use WII to exercise? I am interested in getting it, but question whether I really would use it. Thanks, Skywaters60

I either work out at home, or at Tenacity Fitness and Endurance in Oakdale. What an amazing place! Small, friendly and very knowledgeable, with a wide variety of classes. This place rocks!

You should ask for a free trial. The gym is nothing to be scared of. Most people are a lot less judging than you would ever think. Many people are consumed with their own workout that they do not even notice anyone else is there. I was in the low 300s and high 200s (now 233) and no one was ever mean to me. The worst things that happened was that I had to share a fan and someone corrected me since they were concerned that I was going to injury myself. I have been a member of the YMCA, Gold's Gym and Lifetime. Gym's are nice, but also not necessarily, a good walking buddy and weight training can be just as good. emoticon

I exercise at home and do my walks outside, unless its bitterly freezing outside. O haven't worked up enough confidence to work out at a gym or the YMCA.

I have the WII, a treadmill, bike, elliptical all downstairs, when I got my treadmill hundreds of years ago my husband thought I would use it to collect clothes - it's my favorite machine.... otherwise I run and bike when the weather is nice.... emoticon

I run in my neighborhood but also travel to the lakes and other trails. I go to the Dome during the winter.

I do strength training at home but hit Cyclequest for spinning and Core Power for yoga.

LA Fitness!! I meet with a personal trainer twice a week and I love all the different classes they offer as well and the variety of equipment for me to use on my own. My trainers have really shown me how to use the free weights and think outside the box on all the stuff around the gym.

I usually workout in my basement. We have a X-BOX360 with a Kinect. I use Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Biggest Loser and some other games to keep me on my toes. I also have a treadmill and exercise bike that keep me busy in the winter. In the summer I tend to walk outdoors with friends - no place in particular.

Since cardio is the least important element of a fitness and weight control programme {the ranked order of importance is nutrition (diet), strength training then cardio} I concentrate on strength training in my house or backyard. I use resistance bands, Indian clubs and will be doing some suspension training as soon as I get the anchor points set up. By doing my strength training as circuit training (strength moves only) I take advantage of the built in cardio benefit which reduces my need for dedicated cardio. For cardio I use a jump rope or ride my bicycle on the Midtown Greenway..

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.

When I started SparkPeople, I was exercising very little and focusing on my food and nutrient intake. As the pounds started to come off, I gradually started adding more exercise into the mix. Over the summer, I loved going for walks around Lake Nokomis or even just around the neighborhood. Now that it is getting colder out, I've retreated into my basement and have been using my treadmill and elliptical machine.

Since most of our team lives in the Twin Cities, I'm curious where everyone gets their exercise in. Gym? Outdoors? At home or somewhere else?
