I made an amazing dish last night. I don't mean good or tasty, I mean truly amazing. Read my blog dated yesterday for details.

One of the few things my boyfriend loves a lot is Fried rice, so since if we go out we can't control what is in it or how it's done. I found many recipes on spark recipes. It is one of the few recipes we make over and over again.

Collard greens are one of the best sources of calcium in the plant kingdom. I cook a lot of greens, but I've always avoided collards. My memories are of overcooked, bitter greens swimming in pork broth - I was never a fan. I decided to give them a try, so I looked at several recipes. I found one that looked promising and ended up changing it dramatically to come up with Curried Collards with Red Lentils recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

It is really good, and I will be making many more dishes that showcase collard greens in the future.

I'm reviving this topic because it's a good place to share ideas. I started another food thread, too. That one is turning into an information resource about food quality and sourcing, so let's use this one for exchanging recipes ideas and questions. Use the other one for questions about food safety, ingredients, substitutions, etc.

Swiss chard is new for me and I love it. I tried it because it came in my CSA box; although it coincides with starting SP.

OMG! Thank you for reminding me! It was WeighDown and I LOVED it....but it stopped at our church and I haven't found it anywhere else. Don't know if it even exists anymore. I should Google it....

MiniCooper,
Was it WeighDown workshop, or First Place?

I have been reading about quinoa and I am making it my quest to find some today. I can't wait to try some.

Right now, someone with a whole lot less is doing a whole lot more.

I haven't tried that yet. The grains are pretty delicate, so I don't know how they would react to the impaction freezing causes. If you try it, let me know. I usually nosh on mine until it's gone. I often have it for breakfast.

Sounds yummy. Thanks Patt! I like your idea of making a small amount to see if they like it. I wonder if it would freeze well if I made the entire amount?

The quinoa isn't hidden in this dish, but it's buttery and wonderful. The buttery flavor comes from the millet. If your family likes corn, they might like this. You could decrease the recipe and only make 1/3 of it to see if they will eat it. If you lived closer, I'd drop some off because I just made a batch yesterday. recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

Since joining SP I've added quinoa and quinoa flakes to my menu. I like that it is a grain with protein in it. I'm still looking for quinoa recipes that my family will eat - they are quite picky. If you know any good ones that hide the quinoa in the some other food send them my way.

LOVE this idea and I can't wait to see what ideas others have.

"putting down the spoon" for me is more like "not picking up the spoon"......one thing I learned from "another" program was, if you think you're hungry, wait 10 minutes, pray about it and then go and eat......IN MODERATION.....what you're hungry for. The key was first, knowing what you were hungry for. If you don't know, then you're not really hungry. Then the wait and pray part. It really worked well for me for awhile and I've got to get back into that habit.

Come'on people! I wanna know what you do!

There are so many posting about runs/races/walks/exercise on this team! Not all of us can participate in those activities at a high level, so we need to put the main focus of our weight loss and lifestyle change in the kitchen.

I thought it would be fun to talk about healthy cooking and eating. What are you cooking this week? What's in season? What new foods have you tried since you joined SparkPeople? Do you need some ideas on how to cook something? What tips do you have to put down the spoon and step away from the ice cream?

Let's use this space to dish about food! I'll put new topics up from time to time to keep it lively.
