I tried the Master Cleanse. I actually did very well for the 1st 24 hours. But in the 2nd day I got very shaky, tired, and very irritable. So, my program only lasted 1 day. What's the Total Body Cleanse?

I have also been considering a cleansing. I already rarely eat meat and Im pretty regular, but I wanted to try it to see how I feel. I will probably just keep doing research and determine what is best for me. I have actually been considering going to a nutritionist and asking him/her.

Thanks for the info. That was very helpful. Glad I didn't waste my money on the Master Cleanse!

I am not a vegetarian but pretty close. I am not a big meat eater...unfortunately the meat I do eat is ALL PROCESSED! I was actually considering going vegetarian BUT like you said that doesn't guarantee permanent weight loss. I barely eat meat now and certainly need to lose weight!

I agree.

I tried the Master Cleanse. It wasn't a pleasant experience and I did not loose a significant amount of weight. It also left me feeling tired.

I also tried a raw food diet (tried just about everything) and it was OK. But I'm vegetarian so it's not too big a deal to just stop cooking or over-cooking my food. I stopped eating only raw foods just because I fell back into old habits of steaming vegetables, etc.

If you want to try a raw food diet then I highly recommend the book and DVD by Alissa Cohen (http://alissacohen.com/). There is also some good free information on the web like "Living and Raw Foods" (http://www.living-foods.com/index.shtml).

If a raw food diet is too big of a change too soon, then I think following a vegetarian diet for a few days or weeks can be a good detox for those who eat meat.

You could try vegetarian (fruits, vegetables, and fish and animal products like eggs, milk, cheese, etc.).

Or you could try totally vegan (same as vegetarian but no fish, meat or animal products).

But I must also tell you that while this may work as a detox, it won't necessarily mean permanent weight loss. I don't know many fat vegetarians but I am one. However, I was fat long before I was vegetarian.

To loose weight, even for a vegetarian, it's all about numbers of calories per day, portion control, and amount of exercise ... the same as for non-vegetarians.

There are many variations floating around about cleansing but the most popular is "The Master Cleanse" it primarily consists of a lemonade-like concoction with cheyenne pepper and maple syrup. My best friend did it for about a day but it was not a pleasant experience for her so she stopped. Some medical experts do not believe in this method of body cleansing because it weakens the body because its liquid.

I think a liquid cleansing isn't bad if you don't do it for a while but I would probably lean towards a raw food cleansing instead.

I've never heard of it, but I'm interested in finding out about it and other cleanses/detoxes.

I haven't but I have been considering it. I've heard from several that it is a good way to cleanse your system. I just haven't been brave enough to try it! Especially if it will make me tied to the toilet all day!!

Have any of you done it? If so what did you use and is/has it been successful?
