Jo I am happy you keep checking in on me too.... We will keep this team going my friend... emoticon
I am hoping the winter is milder than back home. That would be a nice change.

It is not nice when there is controversy at work. It makes things so unpleasant. I am so sorry for you Jo. I hope things improve. I hope things work out for your Dad as well. That is such a strain on you. So much to cope with which makes it so difficult to focus on your own health. You sure do need to take some you time. What are your plans for your Vacation? I hope you get some relaxation in...

Take care and many Sparky Hugs to you....xoxoxoxo

Oh Glenda, I love how you just keep checking in on the team.

I saw a pic of your walk last month... nice beach! And I think you'll enjoy the winter on the West Coast, especially the Island.

Work personalities are clashing again on my team. *sigh* Whatever happened to being polite? A co-worker made it sound like I had messed something up royally, and wouldn't let it go. So I had to tell her to either assign the work to me and I'll fix it, or stop complaining and fix it herself.
I thought I was going to lose it.

So, I'm looking for another transfer within gov't. Again. I don't need this kind of attitude in my life, I get enough of it from my dad.

Speaking of which, Dad has been in the hospital for about a week. He fainted at the mall in Moncton, and he had a bad fever for several days. Ambulance ride, sister onsite, and I'm stuck in Fredericton. On a good note, he's being evaluated by Long Term Care division of Social Development (Family & Community services), and it looks like he will be sent to a nursing home. At this point, I'm almost sure he's going to be a Level 1, but he can't live safely on his own. And all the food issues I've developed over the years came from that side of the family, which means his vertigo has disappeared since he's been hospitalized, because they feed him properly and give him meds at the right time. He isn't able to get onto a schedule so his body can be at its best. This even may just be the blessing in disguise we've been waiting for.

Ok, back to work. I just need to get through today & tomorrow without worrying about Dad and wanting to punch-throat the co-worker. Then I'm off until Sept 9. Halleluia for vacations!!

Jo

On Tuesday I met with my train friends from 2016 for lunch. It was nice to catch up. They live about an hour away from me. I drove there from here... Yay me.... I didnít get lost.... even had a detour along the way.
I have met some very nice people out here when I have been on my walks.
I am still following my Spark and have been doing some strength training also. Not too bad for an ol gal... lol..
How are all you Sparkies?

I think the population is around 37,000 in Campbell River now. Sounds like you had an interesting job there.
Enjoy your camping trip.. Sounds like a good time. I hope the weather is your friend..

I have been trying to contact some people I met on the train in 2016 without success. I think they are away visiting family in other parts of the country. Hopefully they will touch base with me when they return.

I know what you mean by the sugar/flour urge.. It can be difficult at times to resist. Donít beat yourself up over it though. Just keep plugging away and eventually it will become second nature.

I need to get myself involved in something out here. The only trouble is that things usually cost and I am now limited on anything extra cost wise.

Anyway peeps I hope you all are Sparking Hard....

Hugs..

I was there in the mid-90's, and I worked at CFWB, which is now CIQC. I did the afternoon show, and when cruise ships were coming through the channel, I always announced it and encouraged listeners to head to the shore to wave. There were some businesses starting up back then, but they all seemed to revolve around the mining industry. How much did it grow? Back then, I think the population wasn't more than 12000.

I'm still managing to get to the wading pool at lunch, as long as it's not too cool. The heat waves seem to have ended, and we might get another really hot & humid day here & there before the end of the month.

I'm off work tomorrow until Tuesday... this is our big rough-camping weekend. Cats will be looked after, DogFace is booked at the Doggie Hotel, and Wifey has Friday off. We're leaving Thursday evening, heading to Moncton for the night. The mattress we need is on Jenn's bed in Mom's apartment, so we'll stay there Thursday, then Friday morning leave at a decent hour to hopefully be there by noon, set up camp, and be ready for the "Puff Puff Pass" party at 4:20. ;-) It'll be as relaxing or as crazy as I want it to be, and Wifey is ready to go right along with it.

Food.... *sigh* Someone in the office is bringing a large package of assorted cookies from Costco in our kitchen at work. This cookie monster can only turn it down so many times, before one somehow makes it to the lips and teeth. It doesn't matter how much I've already eaten or what's left to eat, that sugar/flour urge is sometimes stronger than me. It frustrates me, too. I'm still working on it, though.

Pool Workout coming soon!

Spark it, and find the Rainbow.

I managed to get my walks in today before the rain came down... Yay!! Although I donít mind walking in it if itís not pounding down..

I am kinda tired tonight so I think it will be bed time soon. Gotta get my ZZZZís....

Have a good night peeps...

I've never been to the Sand Castle thing either, we didn't have a car when we lived in Campbell River.

Just a quick note, I love the heat. I'm not going to complain about it being too hot outside, because it reminds me of the Caribbean.

If you sweat, Spark!

I missed the Sand Castle thingie here... sigh.....

Scheduling a cheat day is a good thing. A dietitian once told my mom that to be truly healthy you had to do that... just as long as you kept yourself in check other days. It worked out well for my Mom. My trouble is that once I get a taste I donít have a shut off valve.... lol... One day turns into two and then three and before you know it itís the whole darn week.

The wading pool sounds like so much fun... I would like that.

My little AB Lounger is working out great.. I like the fact that it is easy on my back and my old bones and joints....

I wonder how the others on the team are doing.. It would be so nice if we could hear from them once in a while too. We miss you!!!!

Any ways lets keep Sparking and smiling....

Hugs....

Glenda, I remember there were sand castle competitions in the summer, and a friend posted something on Facebook about a recent one. Have you been to see it yet?

So low-carb.... weekday mornings are figured out, as are lunches. (I learned a long time ago not to have high-carbs for lunch... I can't last an hour.) Suppers, as long as Wifey is home, are good too. I'm also scheduling in cheat days, because I can't go without pasta completely, and I'll wither away to nothing if I can't have chocolate ever gain. I haven't lost anything yet, but Wifey seems to have. Being a cookie monster is hard when wanting to eat sensibly.

And the wading pool! It's almost perfect! I've been doing WATP workouts in the pool, whether there are kids or not. There's a small corner of shade in the pool, which allows me to not be burnt like a lobster. The one move I find the hardest in the water are side-steps. My movements are small, but it's working.

Glenda.... no bugs.... *sigh* I miss that. ;-)

Spark Shiny!

Howís it goiní Sparkies? I hope you are all having a beautiful Sparkly weekend and doing lots of exciting things for your summer.
I have met lots of people while I am out on my walks. I do enjoy getting out. I am settling in here pretty good. Still have some unpacking to do but itís not urgent and I can do that in the winter. I just want to be outside as much as possible. I have been doing a fair amount of reading as well. I love to set out and do that. (No bugs).... thatís a bonus.
This journey is awesome....
Have a wonderful weekend...
Hugs.

Jo this is literally my lifeline, I swear... I tried other programs but nothing stuck with me like this one, or maybe it was, that I just wasnít ready yet. A lot of it is mindset. Itís like when I quit the cigs... I had to be completely ready not just physically but most of all mentally.
The wading pool sounds like fun... I would like that. Some of my in-laws back home were going boogie boarding today... I sure do miss that. Canít beat those eastern shore breakers.... So refreshing.
Good job on working low carb most of the week. Itís not easy. I still have my Premiums, I just mostly cut out the bread. I feel so much better for it.
Have fun at Wifeyís office party. You gotta cut loose sometimes girl..., lol...
It is good for the constitution.... lol...
Have a good day tomorrow....
Hugs..

Glenda, you amaze me in being here every day. I admire your spirit and your "I'm not going back there" attitude.

So I found the wading pool just down the road from the office, and it's perfect! Today, I brought my phone and brought up Leslie Sansone on YouTube, and a half hour later, I was done. The water resistance is really noticeable right now, and that's not a bad thing. Balance is a little tricker too, so that's a little extra work too. I'm hoping it doesn't tire me out so much that I fall asleep at the dinner table. If I could do this once or twice a week for the summer, I'll be happy.

Wifey was invited to attend the office party at the Veterinary Hospital on Saturday, and spouses are invited. It's down the road from home just a bit, and I'm looking forward to it.

Been working on low-carb most of the week.... sometimes I'm just not strong enough to turn down that Premium Plus cracker! But it's coming along, and I don't feel as hungry. I don't mind that at all. :-D

Sparkers can all DIVE INTO THE POOL just to cool off this summer! :-D

Today I went to Goose Spit and did the stairs again... I am nothing if not persistent...lol... I met a really nice lady there and we did them together. She also told me about some programs I might be interested in here. ( Good places to meet people who have similar interests as myself)
I am definitely getting a good workout here...Speaking of workouts, I used the AB Lounger last evening and I did ok just a few reps of each stretch. I also did some weight lifting reps with my 5lbersí...
I hope you all had a beautiful Saturday...
Letís Spark it.....

The machine is a AB Lounger. I will send a pic tomorrow. I have been looking up the moves I am supposed to make with it... We shall see... I havenít tried it yet. I was too busy today so tomorrow is the day. I will start out slow with it...
Your supper sounds yummy. I have trouble with rice although I love it, it doesnít love me. The same thing with popcorn. I have been this way since getting my gall bladder out.
I wish you luck with finding your cookie recipe and I will keep my fingers crossed that you find one. I wish I could help you there but I am at a loss with the good stuff. Cookies in general were always a problem for me. I too am a Cookie Monster...lol... One just never seems like enough....
Take care my friend and have a good day at work tomorrow.
Hugs... and Keep the Spark...

Now I'm curious.... can you send a pic of the machine?

Yeah, bread/gluten is the toughest to let go, after tobacco. I'm trying, though. Last night, I made rice with supper, and it looked like there was more veggies than rice. And leftover pork roast.... leftover supper was proudly gluten- and dairy-free. When I fried the rice, I used half coconut aminos and half soy sauce. It turned out pretty darn good, and I didn't feel like crap an hour after supper.

So I have a particular situation, and I think I finally have this figured out. I have my medical cannabis prescription, and as well as inhaling it (I'm trying to use my vape a lot more), I also make edibles. Usually, my edibles are cookies or gummies, but I'm not enjoying the gummies as much. And I'm a Cookie Monster, so it's tough to just have one (and I only have one!) Flour is the biggest issue, but I'm going to look for a cookie recipe using gluten-free products. Wish me luck.

Time to head for home and Spark it!

I didnít mind the June bugs although I know a lot of people are afraid of them. My thing is wasps. We have quite a lot of them here on the property. My son in law has tried to get rid of them but they are persistent. So far I have avoided getting stung and I keep my benny handy... I do swell up so I am careful.
The bread thing was probably one of the most difficult things for me to adjust to. I grew up on my Momís homemade bread and molasses. She was a professional cook/baker. Nothing beats that smell of bread baking. Ah.... one can dream... of little loaves hot out of the oven with butter and molasses on a nice big slice....lol... No wonder I was a chubby kid and later chubby adult...
Yesterday I bought an Ab machine at the Thrift store here for 29 dollars regular price anywhere from 250 to 300 new and second hand around 100. I think I did pretty good as it is just like new. I was looking for a rowing machine but this will do for now. My daughter hopes I wonít have to be rescued from it... lol... I told her I would make sure my phone was in reach.... lol...
All kidding aside, I think it will be very beneficial to me. I need to tighten up my ABs. I know I probably could do it without the machine but I think it will make it easier for me.
Off to bed now .... need to get some zzzzzís
Have a good night peeps...
Hugs.

Interesting take on the bread and the splurges. I do that with chocolate.
emoticon

As for bugs, they're even bad in the cities in Atlantic Canada. I work in the city, so I'm in town on weekdays.... and I'll tell ya, in the residential areas, those mosquitoes are as vicious as home in the country, but there aren't as many of them. And this year seems to be particularly bad and late for mosquitoes.... I still had June bugs last week!

So you're gluten and dairy-free then? One thing I'm going to look for are oatmeal granola bars that are certified gluten-free, and see if I still get that bloated feeling. If I do, then carbs will have to be cut down a lot so I can feel better. And you're a cheese hound too?? If it's grated, I eat it by the handfuls. LOL

Big rain today in most of NB, and sticky hot too.... lots of humidity. When I walk into my work building, it feels like I need a sweater over my shoulders, because the humidity is gone. That doesn't last long, because within minutes, the office temperature of 23C is enough to make me think I'm having a hot flash.

I have one lotto ticket to check to see if I'm coming in to work tomorrow. ;-) And then I'm about ready to head home.

The other thing I like is that the bugs arenít as vicious...lol and not as many as back home. Of course I am in the town so that probably makes a big difference as well.
Homemade tea biscuits yummy... I would find them difficult to avoid.. There is a bakery I walk by here and the smell makes me feel like I gained 10lbs... It is dog friendly too but I wonít stop.
I have basically cut out bread except for the occasional Hamburg bun. I treat myself every now and then to a good burger. I think that is important to do every once in a while, otherwise I feel like I am missing out on something. I donít have cheese on it though. I have mostly gotten off the cheese as well. I was a real cheese hound...lol... I would go through a block of it in a few days... I was bad, wasnít I?
Anyways Keep the Spark my East Coast Buds....

I remember when I first moved to BC, I couldn't wear my contact lenses for nearly 2 weeks... because my eyes felt a lot drier, because of the lack of humidity. Blew. Me. Away. That said, I'd go back to the Pacific Coast if I had a good opportunity to make the move.

I'm working my way off wheat and dairy, to start. I've noticed that I feel particularly bloated shortly after eating or drinking them. My hardest battle is chocolate and Wifey who likes bread. I still drink chocolate almond milk, because I just don't like the flavour of the regular almond milk. We were doing pretty good until she pulled out home made tea biscuits to go with the local strawberries and cool whip (and it wasn't even calorie-wise!). It was good, but I felt it for another hour after I ate it.

I've done this before, I know I got this... it's just remembering that I do. :-)

Spark it even if the humidity is killin' ya!

Yes the air is not as heavy here. It took me a couple of weeks to adjust, but I can breath easier. My legs are a little sore from the stairs yesterday, but I went out for my walks again today. I canít let my legs seize up.. lol..
I would like to catch the festivals here. It is definitely something for me to look into to.
I like pasta and flatbreads too, but they are unfortunately my enemy. I pack on the pounds too quick with them too.
You got this Jo... If an old broad like me can do it there is hope for all....
Take care

It was the first time I've been to the Festival, so it was an experience all by itself. Like you, I expected big crowds around me all the time. It wasn't even close to that. Because concert-goers had lawn chairs, most stayed with the chairs, and it didn't feel crowded, even though there had to be 10,000+ people at the site for the Carrie Underwood show. The only time it was kinda crowded is down by the stage, where it's standing room only. I only went down there once to get a video of the singers, but the rest I was near my chair. As for missing Cavy, I'm pretty sure there are at least 2 music festivals on Vancouver Island, and it'll most likely be a similar set up. Have you found the air different on the Island?

I stepped on the scales yesterday, after more than 2 months of being at the gym at work (which I no longer have access to because I changed buildings), and I'm up. I knew I was, especially by the clothes I had just bought this spring. Essentially, it means I have to get back to low carb if I'm going to get healthier. *sigh* I love my pasta & flatbreads, but I can do this. I started tracking my food again, and although my FitBit still needs a strap, I can at least track my food again, and use the Fitness tracker. I also need to call the indoor pool and find out when lap swim is, because Aquacise is too late for me.

Enjoy your Spark this weekend!

Thanks Jo.. I realize peeps are busy and summer is short. I have never been to Cavy for the Fest. Always wanted to go but never had the opportunity. I am not sure if I could have handled the crowds but I would have liked to have tried.. Glad you had fun... You need to unwind at times and what a good way....
I made up the stairway today at Goose Spit... Yay....
Have a good night peeps...
Hugs..

Glenda, I appreciate your tenacity to keep posting here :-D

So Cavendish Beach Music Festival happened. It was fun. It was good, and it was with family. We didn't make it to the Friday night show, because we were just too tired after an afternoon of driving. So we headed over about 1pm on Saturday. Great performers! At about 7pm, the skies opened up and I almost expected Noah to show up in the Ark at one point. Even with raincoats, I was still soaked to the bone. Carrie Underwood did a great performance, despite the rain. On Sunday, it was sunny, not a cloud in the sky, going up to 27C, and Eric Church finished off the day. The site is set up so that you have to walk up hill for 500m (I asked someone with a FitBit!) to the gates, then another 250-500m to get a decent spot to park a lawn chair. I've been walking a lot of hills at work, and I think it finally paid off -- I was not nearly as sore as I thought I'd be. A bit tired, but only a bit.

Nate-Dawg is off until Monday. I really like the guy, but sometimes his disability becomes a lot to handle. It's been quiet this week, which has been a bit relaxing. :)

Wifey's schedule for the summer is out, and I can finally plan some time off this summer.

Well, back to the grind. There's nothing like having to call a user back for the 3rd time, because he can't follow instructions, first thing in the morning. ;-)

Let your Spark shine in the sun!

Well here I am again.. Just wondering where all the peeps are? They must be having a very busy summer.
I am feeling kinda lonely peeps...
It was kinda rainy and windy here today but the pooch and I were out for our walk. Tomorrow I might just go exploring. I read that there is a place here that has 168 steps up to a good look off. I might just try that. If I do I will try to get some pics...
Anyways I am still sparking along... hope you peeps are enjoying your summer..

Hugs..

I didnít do anything spectacular yesterday. Just the usual. My daily walk. I would have enjoyed muddling Jo...lol...
Congrats to your wifey on the job...
I need to find something to do out here I think. Like joining a group maybe volunteering. Even for just a few hours a week.
I get bored so easily and thatís not a good thing. Today I was really missing NS. I know I havenít been here that long and I do like it here especially with the family but NS will always be home I think.
Still sparking.
Hugs.

Hi everyone,

I meant to do this yesterday, but my truck got full of mud (after mudding!), and then I forgot. there aren't many of us left, so for the summer, I'm going to try having one thread for July and August this year.

How did YOU celebrate Canada Day? Like I said, we went for a drive on old logging roads (2.5hrs), then we had steak for supper, and bed by 10.

And Wifey starts her job today at the animal hospital! She's so excited!

Share the Spark!
