Norwegian Diet

Ole was turning 78 and was overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.

The doctor said, "I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a
day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you
should have lost at least 5 pounds."

When Ole returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60 lbs!

"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my instructions?"

Ole nodded... "I'll tell you though, I thought I wuz gonna drop dead on dat 3rd day."

"From the hunger, you mean?" asked the doctor.

"Shucks no, it wuz from all dat skippin!"

Do what Anne burnelle and AARP suggest and always eat these foods to stay young

Fish,whole grains,cruciferous veggies such as cabbage,kale,cauliflower,turnips,brussell sprouts,plus,nuts and berries.

I see the only thing dh and I fail to eat is brussel sprouts and turnips. How about you? emoticon

I went out to eat today with a group of people of mixed ages. The couples in their 40's, then three young people 22, 18, 15. It makes you feel young to socialize with them (and spoiled also).

ONe way we do is to get out where the young people are and enjoy their excitement. We attended another Lady Bears basketball game this evening and the majority of the audience are young folks. Their enthusiasm is contagious! We were hootin' and hollerin' with the rest of them!

That is great Irene that you doctor is taking such good care of you and that he is actually reducing the number of meds!
We are taken care of well, both here and back home by two very knowledgeable lady docs. I take only a med for my hypothyroidism and DH takes his heart meds as prescribed by his wonderful heart specialist here in Texas. The last episode he had with his heart- that doctor prescribed only exercising! And he has been working hard ever since! He rarely sits down! I peter out by afternoon and take a nap quite often but then I am good to go for my evening workouts!

Have a good doctor who works with you and doesn't say "she is old, let her go". I have had the same doc for 14 years. I have felt tired, weak and dizzy. He thinks it could be some of my medication as he did a blood work on me and it was fine.
He told me to quit taking the Lipitor. I have never had high Cholesterol but my heart doctor gave it to me as a preventative.
Then of course he will check my cholestorol.
Also there has been a lot said about people not getting enough vitamin D.
He told me my vitamin D was fine before I started taking it and to quit it as it could cause the symptoms. I started having those symptoms after startig the vitamin D.
Also another medication he cut down on.
I think when you have lost 55 pounds you don't have to have as much medication. I had already cut down on some of them.
So find a good doc, trust him, be truthful with him and it just might make you feel younger and better.

Also---Try to keep up with the times. This morning we were glued to our TV set AND computer with SPACEXF9 live WEBCAST. to follow the launch. Our DD and DGS are there at Orlando as special guests of SPACEX thanks to the Make a Wish foundation. All expenses paid. they are also texting me . So we were able to watch it from here while they were watching it in person!

Just read in Nutrition Action magazine-To help prevent bone loss- we must increase our daily consumption of fruits and veggies to 11 and decrease the consumption of grains in all forms! We certainly won't feel so young again if we allow our bones to develop Osteopenia or eventually Osteoporosis .So today I tweaked my vegetarian Meal plan I am following on SPARKS to do just that.

When you are with a group don't be a wall flower. Join in Laugh talk and communicate with those around you. At church people say they wait for me at the door and I never come out. Why? Because I sit behind at the pastor down at the front and on my way out I am stopped with hugs, kisses on the cheek, talk and some asking for me to pray for them.
So be sociable. It makes you feel young and loved.

Another suggestion that works for me is-Take time to smell the roses !, enjoy the beauty around us everyday what ever it is. The sunrises and sunsets, soft breezes, children's laughter, purring kittens, waggy tail dogs, Waves from neighbors-You name it-- just ENJOY!

Visit the local historical sites in your neighborhood. Gets you out of the house and you can really appreciate your modern conveniences if you go to historical museums, etc! And fun for us to reflect on the "Good Old Days"

Anyone remember the old talk show host-Arthur Godfrey? He said once-"When you wake up-Get up!" That has always stuck in my head. Don't just lie there and try to solve the worlds problems. Get up and accomplish something. then go back to bed. It does wonders for me anyway!
