I saw a recipe for dressing that called for maple syrup, which I thought was weird, but I wondered what folks might be using for a sweet factor (more if I have to cook for family, my weakness is salty stuff, not sugary).

Anyone have any suggestions for a natural sweetening substitute for the maple syrup? Recently started on the regimen, blood sugar still not regulated and lots of weight to lose, so no sugars. Any advice appreciated!

MD1988 - The oil-free dressing we love is the 3-2-1 (from Ann Esselstyn, I think). 3T. Balsamic vinegar, 2 T. dijon mustard, 1 T. maple syrup. Easy to make and fat-free!

You are singing my song!

So many things are gone - joint stiffness, brain fog, heartburn, etc. I have energy to do things and I'm losing weight.

The food is really good too. I love that I can eat as much as I want without having to measure and count every morsel.

Yeah, I don't run any reports anymore either. I just track my weight so that I have a visual of my progress.

I love eating this way, and it feels like for the first time in my life I'm treating my body the way it deserves.

I'm glad to read I'm not the only one who feels like the nutrition reports here aren't particularly helpful.

I've never felt better so I stopped running the reports.

Hey- I just joined SP and saw your post. I am eating as strictly a nutritarian diet as I know how. I ordered some oil free dressing so until that comes in, I am adding a Small amount of oil based dressing.

I have been on ETL for only three days, but I feel great and love all the good food. One thing I cooked yesterday that I enjoyed was fresh green beans. I covered them with water and added onion, mushrooms, and garlic. They were really good.

I would love to share ideas and recipes.

I like black belt as well

I also upped the fiber and lowered the protein. I find it hard to track cause i don't measure when I cook.

Did you know you can go into your nutritional settings and change your fiber requirements? I got tired of that message too, so I set it really high, now I'm always under on fiber! LOL To be honest though, I seldom read the reports. They aren't very helpful. :)

As for being a strict nutritarian, then I would say I'm 95% there. I occasionally have a bit of nonfat dairy in a mocha (the soy mocha is too fatty and hurts my stomach). I have also had fish twice in the past 4 months. But other than that, I'm pretty much ETL vegan and loving it!

If you are a black-belt nutritarian, you might want to join the forum over at Dr. Fuhrman.com
I'm a member and I've learned a lot there, but it does cost.

I have tracked out of curiosity and also have been on some challenges that require it- actually next week we are supposed to and I probably will.
I usually eat more than one cup of beans every day. The feedback on SP tracking will tell me I am overdoing it with fiber. I disagree. I love not having to track on this plan though- one of the best things about it!

I don't track either. Putting the Eat to Live plan in usually shows the right amount of calories but 1 cup of beans is too much fiber and adds the most calories. It's easier for me to focus on eating the right food.

I know, there are so many people that approach weight loss with the use of artificial and overly processed foods, despite the good general nutrition info on Sparks.

So I went to the two tutorials and found that when I follow Dr. Furmman's plan I'm a Nutritarian. I got back from my vacation and the pits and falls of Easter (not candy, but other eating) so when I go back to the 6 weeks plan I'm doing strict nutritarian and when I'm doing it a little more relaxed I'm still a nutritarian.

Who new?

Tymberwolfe-

I'm am 90% nutritarian most days. I like to venture into home made mock meats and cheezes so that I can control ingredients so actually most of the recipes I try to find are more for that.
When I am only cooking for myself it tends to be simple and yet 100%.
Home made nut milks for ex made into smoothies. Bean soups. Green salads with just cooked chickpeas.
The hardest thing I struggle with is salt cravings. I use sea vegetables to help with that.
I stopped snacking last year. Lost 25 and have about 25-30 to go.

On the general thread there seems to be a range. I think the good health is what keeps us all coming back to eating this way and over time does not even seem so much like sticking to program as eating what will make us happy.

Anyhow- I will be happy to share recipes- I tend to post on the chit chat thread and 6 weeks.
I am kind of out of the 6 week challenge as I am trying to do this for life but also end up having feast days where I eat too many potatoes or make a faux sausage but that is mostly if family is around....

Oh! oh! And I eat s.n.a.c.k.s too! emoticon emoticon

Actually I am a binge eater in recovery and following the food plan that I got in therapy. I would binge and then try to do Eat to Live and then binge again, and go back to following Eat to Live - that was no life.
Still I got A LOT out of the books by Fuhrman that I am thankful for. I owe this book my habit of eating a healthy breakfast (oats, nuts, fruit, flax seed) and having a green smoothie daily. It made me realize the importance and the blessing of eating vegetables. And I believe that - if one can do it - it is a very good way to live.

Wolfe, for how long have you been a strict nutritarian? How much weight did you lose? What other effects did it bring you? Always love to hear these things!

Good question!

I know I am not a strict nutritarian (though I tried several times, and I get a lot out of the work of Joel Fuhrman) because I eat things like bread, (soy) yoghurt, some cheese, mock meat. And I don't eat a big salad for lunch (but often have a bowl of veggies instead).

My bad! LOL

Looking for strict Nutritarians to add as friends. I follow it strictly and would love to find some people I could share recipes with and share ideas.
