Thanks Zipitup. I can do anything I set my mind to.

Another good day for me. I got all my GBOMBS eaten.

Hello Jeannie!

REJ has posted this on main thread- and it is a good place to get info for free
amysnutritariankitchen.blogspot.com/
p/
e2l-6-week-plan.html

The Hello Nutritarian site has lots of free stuff too though- and getting a copy of Eat to Live is not too expensive?
-looks like ther eare plenty of used copies that are cheap or the library too
amazon.com/Eat-Live-Amazing-Nutrient
-R

And of course there is a small group here that are active
AND
I am going to do 6 week challenge beginning on 2/3

Is there a specific place to get the guidelines for the 6 week challenge.
I have the guidelines from Hello Nutritarian but it's really very expensive and lots of recipes in her plan that I don't care for.

Grandma Fay- emoticon on weight loss
I was 178 at heaviest but managed to get into 140's and will do so again and get to my goal weight which is somewhere in the 120's
178 was my heaviest although I was in my 180's with each child and my midwife thought it was good as the weight was from healthy food most of the time. I wonder about it but all 4 kids are healthy and I never got gestational diabetes. I had my kids in my 30's too so anyhow -all good

and although I am in as far as picking healthier- I still have been struggling with little things as my DH loves half and half in his coffee
SO after sort of sneaking it in as a special "treat" this morning I need to commit as Dr. F says and do the 6 weeks for REAL- like 100%
I am going to adjust my ticker
My emoticon will be Jan. 13

Ending of challenge on Feb. 24- and not thinking of what will happen after except no binge on off foods!

Em,
Happy to see you getting on board again!

It was maybe 25 years ago when I was walking toward our local high school for an adult evening class. Two women were a few steps ahead of me. One asked the other if they had had baked potatoes for their supper. All I could hear was an affirmation. But after she asked what they topped them with the answer came in too softly for me to hear.
This piqued my interest but since I did not know the women, I never got the answer and all these years I could have been starting on a healthier way of eating so that I would not have topped the scales at 172!.
Dr. Fuhrman most likely would not have approved of so much potato. But it certainly would have been better than the meat and dairy I had all these years instead.
(I always liked fruits and vegetables. But most of the other stuff also.) emoticon

I'm not doing the potato thing- looks like I don't have to so I am just jumping in to 6 week challenge which works really well wit the salad challenge here -thanks team!

Tomorrow- a green smoothie ahead for breakfast
Lunch will be a HUGE salad with 1/3 avocado and bean soup

Supper- quinoa + steamed broccoli and lentils.
I have a spice that Mary McDougall recommends and I will just shake it on the lentils and cook them in mushrooms and garlic and onion and cut up some parsley to put on top
The spice is Kirkland Organic no salt seasoning and it is great!
no msg. It is of course pricey but I bought this so long ago and it is still tasty and lasts a long time..however I probably won't buy it again as I like smaller bottles of things like tha t
Here it is if anyone is curious amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Organi
c-
No-Salt-Seasoning/dp/B002W5SDEQ

I might try to make my own.
oh- plus fruit when I want- apples are something I am really enjoying right now! And pears..but I don't have any...

Just plain. I probably won't as we have salad greens and broccoli cooked- so will eat those too.
It is just a way to take a break from cooking.
Get full. Pretty decent nutrition too.

Hi,
I scrolled back to the beginning of this thread which started almost 4 years ago. I wonder where that enthusiastic group is now...progress made, trying a different food plan or even just no longer interested.

Ah, good idea to plan a re-start right away! Keep us posted.

Great that you can run! I'd love to be able to run for just 5 minutes... These days with my foot complaints I can walk without pain for about 25 minutes, which is better than before when I could not walk for 10 minutes without foot pain.

I just replied to the chat thread with a bit about how I'm doing...

A sundae once a year is not bad. Good for you for making the next choice a healthier one. The grilled eggplant sandwich sounds amazing. Going to look for recipes, or ideas on how to make that myself.

I am on day 3. It is not so much the Eat to Live 6 week challenge as much as just going vegan. I need to work in more vegetables, get that one big salad a day in. I need to find more variety in my salads. I love the way I feel when eating them, but I get bored really quickly.

So, need to go through cookbooks for healthy dressings, and try out new veggies and fruits to put on the leafy greens.

I enlisted a buddy for help, and once some housekeeping happens I have a second buddy to help. Buddy number 1 - Mary offered to come over every morning to make sure I have a healthy breakfast instead of fast food breakfasts. I said no, but asked her to come over to my house 1 night a week to inspect the kitchen to make sure it is all cleaned up for ease of cooking, and to make sure I have healthy foods and no unhealthy foods. Buddy number 2 - Angela also wants to eat healthier. Both of us have problems with food going bad before we get to it. We agreed to shop together, shop more often, and split the produce between us. I also offered to cook dinner for the both of us. She hates to cook, I don't mind if I am cooking for others, but don't really like to cook just for me. I told her I was doing vegan and she could bring her own meat/cheese/eggs if she wanted them. I suspect she will move more and more towards just eating what I fix.

A little disappointed in my self today. I was doing well saying "no" to temptations. But, I am still learning. Today was the official day back to school for teachers. The other Pre-K teacher and I...we have a tradition..that we always have a hot fudge sundae. I did well saying no...a few times. But, eventually caved. Not so much that I wanted the sundae...but that I didn't want to break tradition. What to get when you go to an ice cream shop/bakery/candy store. I guess it could have been oh so much worse. I had my 1 sundae (it tasted so sweet) and then I had a grilled eggplant sandwich ...(instead of getting another sundae or candy or worse pastries).

How was your day?

I love green peppermint tea! Either iced..or chilled. I also like it hot. I feel like it doesn't need anything added to it.

Keep up the good work! We can do this!

I survived "birthday night" for my MIL. She requested KFC. I brought veggies, nuts and cherries with me. I was able to say no to the birthday cake...and sipped water to get me through. Maybe I am stronger than I think.

Today is the first day of week 2. Last week I did pretty well (the carb/starchy veggies were my issue). I have also dumped...rice, pasta and bread (as they are my trigger foods). I am not missing them! :)

Week 1 finished. I did well Monday through Thursday. I eat out with my Mom on Friday nights, friends on Saturday nights, and had a DnD game on Sunday. I was off program all three days. Still down 5 pounds for the week, and back on program this morning.

My game is only 1 day a month. So if I eat 3 meals a day and cannot be on program for 2 of the meals, I'm still eating 90% healthy. I had reflux issues Friday night and Sunday night, but not near as bad as they had been in the past. Sunday at the game if I had just avoided the cookies, I would have been fine -- not on program, but fine. Lesson: take healthy snacks for game day!

Realized today that this is day 146 of following my elimination diet. On July 28th it will have been 5 months on this diet. I posted an update about it on my blog.
I don't eat gluten, soy, dairy, yeast, sweeteners and peanuts... testing those foods to see if I have a food intolerance for them. I found that soy seems not to cause any problems for my body, peanuts definitely do, and dairy has a negative impact on my mood and gives me cravings... Still need to test out the effect of gluten and yeast.

The benefits: LESS FOOT PAIN - YAY!... loss of over 16 lbs of weight... Moods are a lot more stable.... NO BINGES.... Better bowel movements... Spot of psoriasis on my elbow improved, almost healed

Sue- depending on the place it can be hard to eat out BUT I agree I think life should go on!!
Not good to just eat at home although in the begining of eating this way it can make it easier

You can call me Em..ot Zip- that is fine too! I have a pair of red goal pants I need to zip up!! And I will in December!!

So this time around I am sticking wit the lower tiers of Fuhrman's pyramid just for 5 days. I am really enjoying it and getting TONS of freggies in and some seeds. It is based on his 5 day detox but I varying it a bit..for ex. allowing a sweet potato tonight with some sauteed (in water) collard greens for supper..
today-
I did have 1 cup black coffee. Switch to white tea and lemon tomorrow.
Breakfast Huge fruit salad on top of greens and cucumbers with ground flaxseed and toasted sesame and sunflower seeds

Lunch- watercress soup+ Big salad + steamed broccoli+ 1/3 avocado+ apple

Supper-Sauteed (in water ) collard greens and spices and garlic and onion and 1/2 sweet potato + HUGE salad dressed with balsamic vinegar

Herbal tea and water

Hi, ZIPITUP, (love the name, by the way) emoticon

Week 1 is done emoticon and I posted my results on the team feed. I'm looking for recipes and other suggestions as I begin Week 2. I know I will make some mistakes. emoticon We like to go out a couple of times a week during lunch. Today we went to Cracker Barrel and I had the vegetable plate with 3 veggies and mixed fruit. This was to see if I have any different results. emoticon I'm thinking of trying Panera this week for a really big salad with no dressing. Trying not to change up our life style too much.

So far, I am very happy emoticon eating this way. The trick is also planning for what my DH will eat. He is always willing to try what I fix and gives me a rating on how he likes it. That is helpful.

Appreciate the support anytime. emoticon

Hi Sue!
I started today emoticon with 5 days of veggies and fruits and seeds to lay a base and reboot and then right into E2L. I am loving it!!

I think this way of eating confuses people..and once you eat this way it completely changes your idea of "healthy " food..to what I say is the right one! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Starting today.

I am a little bit apprehensive, and a lot excited. People I expected support from are pushing back. People I expected push-back from are supportive. It could be an interesting run.

YIKES!! emoticon My kids have been around..
I actually lost 1 pound so not so bad.. BUT I have a race on the 30th and have not been training for it.
I plan on eating healthy.. got an idea to do a 100 day challenge of sorts.. will blog AND after th e4th I am going to do Dr. Fuhrman's 5 day detox.
Probably on July 5th
Before he sold detox plans - the 10 in 20 etc.. he had some info out free for a 5 day detox. I have done it before NOW not exactly as he has it - I play around with what foods/materials there are and do eat the foods but not always exactly as planned
I did this before with great sucess
I am sorry- I can't find a link for this SOOOOO
here is the plan:
emoticon
In one of his newsletters DF wrote about a five day challenge for detoxing and for some weight loss. I cannot copy and print it, but I can describe it accurately, recipe for recipe, word for word. Edit: The newsletter article is available to the public at this link.

In his article he contrasts this short plan to the powders for colon clease and de-toxing found in health food stores. He makes a point in saying that detoxification is an ongoing, full body process and not limited to only the bowels, liver, stomach, or wherever; and not limited to only a few days or few weeks. He also says no substance or chemical can pull toxins out of the body, but the body will cleanse itself if nourished right.

Breakfast = one whole grapefruit or two oranges
one box of blueberries
one box of strawberries
lettuce (optional)

Lunch = 8 oz. baby greens
one orange
juice of 1/4 lemon

blend in a blender and serve

Healthy Slaw = 1/2 cup shredded raw cabbage
1/2 cup shredded raw beets
1/2 cup shredded raw carrots
1 cup shredded apple
1/4 cup raisins

Toss and serve.

Dinner = 4-6 oz. baby raw spinach
1/4 red onion, finely shredded
2 Tbsp. unhulled sesame seeds
1 Tbsp. ground raw flax
1 Tbsp. raw sunflower seeds
1 box (pint) blackberries
2 Tbsp. pear or fig vinegar (optional)

The Green Machine = 4-8 oz. raw chopped kale
4-8 oz. raw chopped bok choy
4-8 oz. chopped brocolli rabe
2 large tomatoes, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 cups chopped mushrooms, raw
one medium onion, chopped, raw

Add tomato, garlic, onion, and mushrooms to pan. Cover and simmer on low for 5 minutes. Add greens on top and continue to cook in covered pan on low heat for 5 more minutes.

Apple-Stuffed Peppers = 1 red bell pepper
1 medium apple
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg

Chop apple. Mix with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cut top off pepper and remove core and seeds.
Stuff pepper with apple mixture and bake at
400 degrees F for 15 minutes.

Do not include any salt, oil, coffee, tea, or any other beverage except pure water for these five days.

This is an all you can eat plan for at least five days, longer if desired.

This is from his October 2002 HEALTHY TIMES newsletter at his website.

I'm going back to this way of eating.. I drifted off and had some cheese and half and half in coffee BUT I can see doing this.

4th of July is coming up as well as all the holiday eating around that..so this certainly will be challenging...but my weight is up. I am 153.4 today.

Stress too- sis bac in pysche ward. I had taken her last time but this time she was in assisted living and with 24/7 care she did make it one more week but now back in. Frustrating. I am happy to have siblings to help.

But I gotta start sticking to it some time. It might as well be now.

Anyhow- 6/7 and 7weeks emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Will see on July 19th how much weight loss on 6 week challenge.

lol- btw I di dnot have cheese in the coffee!

I am on day 75 of the elimination diet. Tested out dairy last week. Not sure about the outcomes, I still need to discuss them with the dietician. It seemed like the dairy had a strong effect on my mood, making me very irritable.

Lost a total of 6.5 kg now (14.3 lbs). I am feeling much better than before I started; better moods, seems like I have more energy and somewhat less muscle and joint pains.

As you say WHITE-2, a European and salad measurements are probably quite different to American portions. We cycled in Spain last summer and starter of Salad would have served four of our family as main meals in U.K...and cost as much as a main meal too. As it was, two hungry cyclists were up for the challenge. Bt then the main courses were much, much smaller too... but I really can't do cake for breakfast though.

I went camping this weekend. In the campervan, so made lots of prepped veg before we went. we ate quite well, though I was starved after our 17 mile walk and succumbed to a beer half way round at a nice pub.
But came home and have lost another 1 lb. AND 2 inches off my waist, which I'm really pleased about.
Prepping loads of veg has been a really good move as the fridge is always stocked now. Onions, cooked mushrooms, cabbage etc. Coming home from the weekend to cooked rice and beans ready to throw in with the veg was a life saver. When I would have flopped i front of the telly with some high fat snack otherwise.
I bought a couple of glass dishes, for storage as I don't like plastic. I shall buy some more out of my food budget next month. I've got all my beans in a row. Literally!

Today I listened to the summit and batch cooked so it is easy- as you said White-2 just throw stuff together.
I do have some parsnips and purple top turnips that I have to cook though- so I am going to cook them and have steamed string beans and there is some leftover zucchini and onion and mushroom saute to put over...so veggies tonight!- in a bowl.

I like having a smoothie for dinner sometimes.

I got in 8 miles today- running and walking- building up a base.

I was thinking how happy I am about this whole way of eating - the philosophy. The good health and Dr. Fuhrman's weight recommendations.
It is funny at my weight or 10 pounds less maybe if I sculpted my body I would look great to other people but I would be at 149 pounds 30 pounds more that what Dr. F. recommends AND he is right.

- I will know when I really am suceeding because people will tell me I am too thin...

I am staying on track....I have found I need my cup of coffee in the morning but now it is good quality...ok well it always was that BUT no half and half and it is less - about half. I used to have a huge mug and now it is about 6 ounces.

I'm focusing on losing it in stages:
156-149- is phase 1- Make it so WITH GBOMBS!!!!!

I find that it's getting easier to make meals and lunches... Often I will just make a soup with pre-cut veggies, just emptying the bag into a pot and adding water and maybe some herbs. That's a big pot and save a few servings in the fridge. Then the next day I will heat it up with a few balls of frozen spinach, add some beans and maybe a bit of nutritional yeast, and that makes a very nice dish: not really soup, not really a stew... but very tasty and filling.

Today I had cooked a whole bag of quinoa so added a serving spoon of freshly cooked quinoa to the mix - that was a good idea, too.

I no longer worry so much about getting in the leafy greens. I am not very thrilled with the 'big salad' idea even though I found out that Dr. F's idea of 'HUGE' is about a normal serving for a European. emoticon I do have salads for dinner at times, adding for example cooked beetroot (we can buy them cooked) and raw onion, or I'll have chickory with apple and orange and walnuts...
I'll often make a green smoothie in the afternoon (sorry Dr. F, I know you said no snacks... but I need something to tie me over until my late evening meal). And / or I will throw cut up leafy greens into my soup and just let it wilt a bit.

Today is day 57 of the elimination diet. I'll start to 're-introduce' foods tomorrow: first soy, later on peanuts, yeast, and last of all gluten and dairy. (I don't eat meat or fish, I've been a vegetarian since 1995).
I'm doing well, it's not nearly as hard as I thought and I lost about 12 lbs in 8 weeks. No more belly aches, thankfully, and it seems my painful feet are doing (somewhat) better! My moods have lifted, too. It motivates me to keep reading the books by Joel Fuhrman and right now I'm also reading Michael Greger's 'How not to die'.

I DO believe in this as a lifestyle BUT even though my birthday and Mother's day happens in the 6 weeks I am in it- I may have couple of of off plan foods(that kids/DH give me...)... but prob not.
or actually- no I won't.
Today and then weigh in on May 29. No scale until then. I was in a challenge team with weekly weigh ins but it was too much as far as the tam with what did not seem to be weight loss related things (to me) that may work for others...anyhow!

Today is day 47 of my elimination diet. I lost 5.1 kg since I started on the last day of February. That's a little over 11 lbs.

I splurged on the hardcover for this AND yes I know what you mean.. I borrow first from library when I can too but have to stop buying cookbooks!
There is overlap between the two but he goes into depth about some things and for me currently I neede dto see why low carb and paleo is NOT a good idea because I had an "oh look! shiny!!!" moment about low carb and went on it for 5 days... an odd detour..lost some water weight...gained it back and more than ready to commit to steps to stay healthy and feel good.

I will start a thread..

I like the idea, and I'd say why not start that thread.

I went to the link you shared and I feel tempted to get that book - I already have Eat to Live, Eat for Health and Fasting and Eating for Health... However, I would rather not spend more money on books about eating. I might follow a thread about this book if you started one though.

sooooo...I have been thinking and instead of gearing up for a 6 week challenge I would like to start a thread for End of Dieting.
The 6 week challenge ..just well mixes me up sometimes in the all or nothing? kinda
Anyhow I am rambling here but what I am thinking is to make this way of eating more about my healthy life and stick to it al the time but in the bigger picture as in things will happen a meal may be off but I don't have to start all over again

The End of Dieting would be a place to discuss his book and how that is going for us.
www.amazon.com/End-Dieting-How-Live-
Li
fe/dp/0062249339

so- would that be ok? If I did that? I think of it as separate from the challenge

Eliminating salt is something I find very hard.

I am now on day 23 of the elimination diet, I manage to avoid eating the foods I am supposed to cut out (gluten, lactose, refined sugar, sweeteners, peanuts, yeast, soy, and not eating meat nor fish anyway since I'm a long time vegetarian).
I do overeat now and then.
However I did lose about 6 lbs in 3 weeks.
Thankfully, no more belly aches! :)

Yay! JSTETSER!

I'm in and blogged. Weighed in but ditching scale and sticking to 7 guidelines for me. They align with Eat to Live- I found this blog to help too www.straightupfood.com/blog/

I am NOT doing just potatoes but of course will allow them- having potatoes for breakfast.
Eliminating salt is a challenge for me. I di dbuy Bensons table tasty and that is helping.

I am listening to Dr. Goldhamer and Chef AJ..

I am weighing in just before race and after having about 100 days of healthy choices. Each day it adds up and I just don't want to think weight but health!

It is supposed to reset you in a way. A reboot so it gets you away from cravings. Salt and oily foods.
I went to SUMS with my eldest yesterday. A whole day of math this year geared toward social concerns- very good but - instead of packing a lunch which I could have we went to a falafel place and yes it was yum but of course salthy etc.. and huge!

so- anyhow we had a vegan birthday cake and I had cooked some things. My kid did buy some natto which I love... not sure where that is on the Eat to Live plan but anyway I think a short reboot of 3-5 days o March 20- will be perfect.

I am happy to hear it is diminishing!

Ah, I see. What are the expected results of the potatoe diet? Good luck!

I am on day 19 of the elimination diet now. The belly aches are diminishing, yesterday just had trouble for about half an hour or so, so that's progress.

potato reboot is a mono diet- so just potato for a week or so. No oil or anything on it.
I might have some parsley or cilantro on it

I hope your stomach feels better soon

Good luck ZIPITUP!

Just stopping by this thread to say hi.

This is day 9 of doing an elimination diet (no gluten no dairy no sugar no sweeteners, no peanuts, and trying to avoid soy). Had a lot of stomach aches in the past week, my gut seems to be upset with the changes, but it looked like I was beginning to feel better yesterday. I hope today will be problem-free, too!
